[Bug 1067432] Re: High CPU usage and lag
I have now tested the beta driver for a while. In Unity: The problem is partly fixed. There is still problems with the window management: * Still no smooth window movements * The window animations, e.g. when windows are created or minimized, are still slow. However, the performance problems with the dash and the launcher are now gone. The dash was very fast even at the time when compiz struggled with window animations. In Gnome Shell: It seems to work OK. So I guess there were two problems. One that is fixed by the driver and another one still present that seems to be related to compiz. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1067432 Title: High CPU usage and lag To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1067432/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1067432] [NEW] High CPU usage and lag
Public bug reported: >From time to time, the desktop animations get very laggy, both in Unity and in >Gnome Shell. When this happens, the CPU usage of xorg is 20-25% on my quad >core CPU, according to top, so I guess one of my cores is maxed out by xorg. The slowness is not constant. Instead it comes and goes. For example * It can take up to 1-2 seconds to switch between lenses in the dash in Unity * Window movement is sometimes so slow that the window manager doesn't redraw the window until I stop moving it, causing the window to disappear from the window's start position and appear directly in its end position. [Bug 867811] Re: Freeze when safely remove a NTFS disk
@Joseph "I noticed you upgraded to Oneiric on 2011-09-28. Were you having this issue before you upgraded?" I'm almost certain that I did a fresh install from a daily image instead of upgrading from Natty. I can't tell when the bug started to occur since I usually never disconnect the NTFS disk. If it is to any help, I could download and run a live CD of Natty and test? "I believe you confirmed this only happens with NTFS?" When I excluded ext4 and fat32 I used a USB stick to do some quick testing. I now did some new tests with the same USB stick and I found that regardless of the file system used (tested ext2/3/4, fat, ntfs), the system didn't freeze when the stick was safely removed. Of course I should have taken the time to test the stick with NTFS from the start. Sorry for the confusion. I can therefore no longer say that it is NTFS only since I can only reproduce the freeze using my external hard drive (which I unfortunately cannot reformat and test with other file systems). I've tested with the upstream kernels that you gave me and I could not boot any kernels at all from 3.0.5 up to 3.1rc9. I never came past the plymouth screen. After booting into onerics kernel again, I received the paging request error from Apport mentioned above by Nicolás. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/867811 Title: Freeze when safely remove a NTFS disk To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/867811/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 553317] [NEW] Reading passwords from keyring results in very high CPU usage
Public bug reported: In the package gnome-keyring-sharp - 1.0.0-2ubuntu1 a new wrapper was introduced which fixes GMail plugin in Docky etc. "Replace socket use with a wrapper around libgnome-keyring." https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring-sharp/+bug/536925/comments/17 But i've noticed that when applications are reading passwords from the keyring, the CPU usage goes off the chart and the applications even fail in getting the password (maybe it's just me who doesn't have the patience to wait). I've found two ways to reproduce it. 1. Use the GMail plugin in Docky. In system monitor, docky has a constant CPU usage of about 60-80 percent. 2. Mount a password protected network share (In my case, sftp) and choose to save the password. Next time when trying to mount CPU goes off the chart again. This time it's gvfsd-sftp. [Bug 355842] [NEW] Window isn't in place after a recovery
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org-core When openoffie starts (doesn't matter if it's writer, spreadsheet etc.) and tries to recover a document, it starts with the window a little bit below where it should be. It also seems that Ubuntu thinks that the window is in place, since it doesn't work pressing minimize, maximize or close. However, if you place the pointer a above the buttons (where the buttons should be) you'll see that the buttons indicates that the pointer is pointing at them. Have a look at the attachment. [Bug 323957] [NEW] aMSN crashes when sending an offline message
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: amsn When sending a message to someone who is offline (or has offline as status while logged on) makes aMSN show a crash report. Choosing "Ignore" makes it possible to continue to chat, but the offline message never gets away. The only way to send a message to a receiver who has the status set to offline is if the receiver first sends a message so that a connection establishes. After that it works to send messages until the connection is lost. As I recall it, the upstream 0.97.1 version of aMSN doesn't have this bug. I think it was introduced in upstream 0.97.2 but later fixed. [Bug 323915] Re: [Jaunty] aMSN icon does not show correctly
It seems that it has something to do with compiz and visual effects. I have a second computer that also runs ubuntu jaunty and amsn. The main difference is that the second computer has fglrx instead of radeon and doesn't have visual effects activated. I saw that the icon seems fine on that computer so I tested turning of visual effects on my primary and then restart amsn. The icon then worked. Turning on visual effects AFTER amsn has started had no effect. The icon still worked. When I later restart amsn (with compiz on) makes the icon behave strange again. Primary (radeon): Turn off effects and then start amsn -> Icon fine Start amsn and after that start the effects -> Icon fine Start amsn with the effects already activated -> Icon not fine Secondary (fglrx): Icon always working since the effects cannot be activated. I'm using the radeon driver (1:6.10.0-1ubuntu1) and yes, every session, but tt isn't always the same problem. Right now I don't have the black background, but the icon still have "multiple layers" with different status icons. I always have liferea running in the notification area and it starts about the same time as amsn at login (both in autostart) and sometimes I get a mix of those two icons representing amsn. -- [Jaunty] aMSN icon does not show correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/323915 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 322681] Re: No menus displayed in amsn windows
I remember having this problem a while ago. I don't remember how I fixed it but it wasn't just aMSN but the whole desktop. I'm now running 9.04 on the same computer (I think.. ) and it works as expected, so whatever makes the menus disappear it's probably fixed when you switch to 9.04. It is however not a bug in aMSN. -- No menus displayed in amsn windows https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/322681 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 323915] [NEW] [Jaunty] aMSN icon does not show correctly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: amsn aMSN icon in jaunty seems to mix itself with other icons in the notification area. It also doesn't update itself as it should when I change status. Instead it loads a new icon in front of the old one. Right now I also have a black background behind the icon.. [Bug 323623] [NEW] Suspend/Resume problem
Public bug reported: When I press the suspend button on my Thinkpad T60, the computer goes to suspend as expected. But when I want to resume, the system resumes and the unlock window comes up, milliseconds after that the system goes to suspend again. Resuming again just makes it go to suspend once again. When I kill the computer by holding down the power button and then start it again, I get the error report about the kernel crash. When choosing suspend from the menu, everything work as expected. The problem occurs only when using the button. [Bug 317781] Re: Ext4 data loss
I have experienced some issues with EXT4 and data losses too, but more extreme than you all describe. I installed jaunty alpha 3 two days ago and have all the updates installed. Since the install 2 days ago I have lost data on 3 occations. The most strange losses is: * the computer wiped out a whole network share mounted in fstab * the computer one time also removed ~/.icons when I empty the trash The data losses never happened after a crasch or power failure. -- Ext4 data loss https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/317781 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 322374] Re: [jaunty regression] Pulse Audio finds no card for output
For those who really want sound I have found a way to get it working (until you log out). Log in, and then start a guest session. Go to System->Settings>Sound and check if there exist an output device. Then log out from the guest session and back into your user. You should now have the device under output. For me, the device was unselected. If it is, just select it and you should have audio. -- [jaunty regression] Pulse Audio finds no card for output https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/322374 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 231712] Re: VLC doesn't show fullscreen video on right screen
I can't test it again since I don't have two monitors connected anymore. I've seen others who runs it successfully tough, but with a different setup.
