[Bug 1819486] Re: Crash from :i915 module with 4.15.0-46-generic using multi-display

2019-11-14 Thread Nicolas Devillers
Hi,

This bug was present and fixed by reverting the i915 patch. I don't
understand why it status would be changed to invalid.

[Bug 1819486] Re: Crash from :i915 module with 4.15.0-46-generic using multi-display

2019-04-18 Thread Nicolas Devillers
Hello,

It works fine with the proposed kernel 4.15.0-48-generic taken at:

http://ppa.launchpad.net/canonical-kernel-
team/proposed/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux/

Please note that I updated to the latest Lenovo Provided Bios (1.23)
since then.

** Description changed:

  === SRU Justification ===
  [Impact]
- 4.15.0-46 breaks once worked external display over docking.
+ 4.15.0-46 breaks once working external display over docking.

  [Fix]
Revert the commit that causes regression.
-
+
  [Test]
User confirms reverting the commit solves the regression.

  [Regression Potential]
Low. Docking can works without this commit on Bionic kernel.

While previously working using 4.15.0-45-generic, booting my thinkpad
T480 on a dock with additional screen connected and "kernel
4.15.0-46-generic" lead to a crash of the system.

  === Original Bug Report ===

Laptop is running Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS.

Kai, It looks like that the intel driver was not bundle in this kernel?
No kernel panic but WM runs in software mode and additional display are
not being detected.

[Bug 1501250] Re: double clicking on a URL drops the protocol from the URL

2016-01-17 Thread Nicolas Devillers
This bug is annoying since it make the whole process of copy/paste an
url to a specific browser heavier. Futhermore, by default URL without
specified scheme will be opened as file:/// on most browser.

[Bug 938920] Re: Status Notifications over SSH

This bug reproduced on latest Ubuntu 14.04:

byobu -v
byobu version 5.74
tmux 1.8

echo $LANG
en_US.UTF-8

locale charmap
UTF-8

I used the provided workaround by disabling logo in the byobu config.

[Bug 1214287] Re: [Dell Inspiron 15R 5521] suspend/resume failure

2014-08-29 Thread Nicolas Devillers
This issue is now fixed for me with recents kernels on Ubuntu 14.04. I'm
currently using 3.13.0-32-generic.
My amd fglrx driver is 2:13.350.1-0ubuntu2
My intel driver is i915-3.15-3.13-dkms

I have GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="video.use_native_backlight=1" into my
/etc/default/grub

Everything seems to work correctly (brithness, suspend/resume)

[Bug 1225811] Re: 1002:6601 [Dell Inspiron 15R 5521] Can't toggle backlight brightness

xrandr --output [yourscreendevice] --set Backlight 80

However, in my case (maybe because I have 2 video adapter [cpu/amd] )
the latter xrandr command is equivalent to write in
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness which doesn't work.

As (probably) a large number of user on linux right now, I'm using the
following workaround to handle this issue:

'echo "4590" > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness' as root

another option might be to use the following xrandr command:

xrandr --output [yourscreendevice]

Christopher,

This bug is indeed still an issue on the latest 13.10 kernel : Linux
3.11.0-14-generic. I'll try to check with upstream soon but didn't find
time for that lately. However, unfortunately I don't think upstream
kernel provide change relevant to fix this issue.

[Bug 1226628] Re: ca-certificate seems to miss an intermediate certificate from verisign

2013-09-17 Thread Nicolas Devillers
After checking on a fresh install of chrome/firefox, with a server not
providing the intermediate certificate during the handshake:

- Firefox doesn't have the certificate in its store on a fresh install
and ask for an exception on connexion. However right after that the
certificate appears in the store, and the connexion is accepted without
the need of an exception to be added.

- Chrome does accept the connexion from a fresh installation.

This behaviour seems to be the same on linux, windows , android...

However I do understand that as it's not a root CA the good way is
certainly not to embedded it in the system but Is there no others
intermediate certificate already embedded though ?

Yes, I indeed tried to delete it from the cert manager but it keeps
coming back each time I open the manager again.

I'm not sure about the point that it doesn't come installed in firefox.
This certificate whose Serial Number is
"6e:cc:7a:a5:a7:03:20:09:b8:ce:bc:f4:e9:52:d4:91" does appears in my
firefox certmanager on both window/linux.

Also, firefox does validate the SSL chain when connecting to a server
not providing this intermediate certificate during the ssl handshake.

[Bug 1214287] Re: [Dell Inspiron 15R 5521] suspend/resume failure

2013-09-11 Thread Nicolas Devillers
"acpi_osi=Linux" is not useful actually, and i removed it from my grub config.
"acpi_backlight=vendor" is required on raring and saucy at least if I want to
be able to manage the backlight. Precise and quantal could be affected as well.
I have to check to see if the problem as always been there.

As there is a certified version of ubuntu for inspiron 5521 based on
12.04 maybe Canonical could provide information on weither they needed
to add some specific patch/configuration to make it work on it.

2013-09-10 Thread Nicolas Devillers
I just tried using a live ubuntu 13.04. I couldn't reproduce with the
crash on resume either using "acpi_backlight=vendor" or without.
However, you still can't control the lightness without it.

Please note that it was a "live" 13.04 using 3.8.0.19 kernel and default
configuration.

My previous installation was at least adding the i8ktools module to
prevent overheating/excessive fan noise

[Bug 1188588] Re: apport-retrace crashed with Error in copytree(): [('/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/username-evolution-3_8.gpg~', '/home/username/.cache/apport/retrace/system/apt/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/userna

2013-09-09 Thread Nicolas Devillers
After I did a chmod +r *.gpg in /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/ I was surprised
to see that apport-retrace was still crashing:

Checking the stacktrace showed it's because it's happening while trying
to read not gpg file but "gpg~" file

ls -l *.gpg~
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 juil. 16 11:39 cairo-dock-team-ppa.gpg~
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 juil. 19 13:02 ehoover-compholio.gpg~
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 août 22 13:55 mqchael-pipelight.gpg~
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 juil. 17 05:01 unity-webapps-feedly-stable.gpg~
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 août 20 14:43 videolan-master-daily.gpg~
-rwx--x--x 1 root root 0 juin 26 18:14 webupd8team-java.gpg~

I think one patch is to ignore those file and only read .gpg file, and
in a second time make sure the gpg file are readable. I don't know why
those file are there in the first place and if there is a good reason
for it as they are empty.

2013-09-03 Thread Nicolas Devillers
I reproduced the bug with apport-retrace easily. Bug happens when using
the apport-retrace sandbox. For some reason, sometimes, some of the gpg
keys in /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/ are only readable by root..

I would propose to patch by changing the loop line 179 in shutil.py. I
would add this check line 182:

if not os.access(name, os.R_OK):
   continue

This will prevent to try to copy file when we dont' have read
permissions for them. But there will probably have still have an issue
if those keys are the one we need for the debugging symbols.

[Bug 1214287] Re: [Dell Inspiron 15R 5521] suspend/resume failure

2013-08-30 Thread Nicolas Devillers
No it was already in 13.04 as far as i remember, that's part of the
reason that made me start beta-test with Saucy. I'll do some further
test when I can. The point is that I think i didn't have to specify
"acpi_backlight=vendor" in ubuntu 12.04 or 12.10 to be able to configure
lightness. But as i might not remember well it would help if some others
Inspiron 5521 users came around this topic. It's actually not that clear
for me what ubuntu is doing when it crash, is it suspend to ram ?

(to be confirmed again) but I noticed that it doesn't crash if I
manually start the sleep mode with "sudo pm-suspend". Also, I'm
surprised to see that in my gnome power management setting everything is
set to "don't suspend" (when on power and when on battery).

I could reproduce with kernel 3.11.0.3.4 and bios A09. Is there any
difference between this kernel and the one provided in your link ?

The bug doesn't seems to happens if I don't set "acpi_osi=Linux
acpi_backlight=vendor" in my /etc/default/grub. But I wouldn't be able
to modify lightness then.

sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

mainline kernel in such case.

- I just updated Bios to version A09, this should not have effect according to
the matching changelog.
- Bug doesn't seems to happens or seems to be less frequent while using kernel
3.9.0.7 (to be confirmed).

[Bug 1171484] Re: Apport crash while adding gdb_info to report when gdb couldn't load symbol map

2013-07-23 Thread Nicolas Devillers
Bug happens when gdb couldn't load the symbol map thus not able to
provide GLibAssertionMessage or NihAssertionMessage.

The gdb output can't be splitted correctly with the used regexp. Here
is a patch that prevent approt from crashing in this case. The patch may
be improved by setting another regexp in such case to get
stacktrace/disassembly/registers which are the informations that gdb can
still give us.

** Attachment added: "if gdb output contains "no symbol table info available"
we don't parse it"
