[Bug 2060268] Re: Phantom "Unknown Display" shown in Settings after installing the Nvidia driver

2024-05-25 Thread Noam Mor
Regarding the severity of this bug - if I turn off the monitor, Ubuntu
switches to my second (non-existing) monitor, and when I turn the
monitor back on, gnome crashes and forces me to logout. I *had* to apply
the workaround to avoid constant crashes and forced logouts.

[Bug 1846374] Re: Having a video playing/paused when switched to another user generates gigabytes of error logs

2019-10-04 Thread Noam Mor
My /var/log/syslog currently has about 240GB of the following line:

Oct 4 17:53:32 noam-ubuntu org.gnome.Nautilus[3124]:
[7f9fa8021120] vdpau_chroma filter error: video mixer attributes
failure: An invalid handle value was provided.

I had VLC open, with a video paused, for about a day. I found out I have
this issue when space ran out on / .

I'm using Nvidia drivers version 430.40 on Ubuntu 18.04. Unlike the
original poster of the bug, I did not switch to another user. I did
however change my resolution - I manually change the resolution from 4k
to 1080p for streaming movies and change it back to 4k to do other
things.

I suspect that the faulty situation appears when I VLC is started in one
resolution and then the resolution is changed. I will test further.

[Bug 1728514] Re: [nvidia] mpv won't play videos because no libcudart.so.7.5

2017-10-30 Thread Noam Mor
I ran ldd on all *.so files under /usr/ and couldn't spot anything
suspicious.

I tried again the various voodoo procedures I initially attempted after
deleting the old opencv libraries, and it turns out that deleting
~/.cache/gstreamer-1.0/ was the correct solution to whatever problem I
was having, so now I have functioning Totem and VLC.

If I manage to narrow down the exact problems I'm still having with
video output to something coherent, I'll come back with more. Thanks
very much for your help.

[Bug 1728514] Re: [nvidia] mpv won't play videos because no libcudart.so.7.5

2017-10-30 Thread Noam Mor
Okay, the most important finding so far is that if I cd to
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu, mpv --help works. Not only that, it actually
correctly plays videos, with mpv.conf being any of auto, vaapi, no.
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu has libcudart.so.8.0.61.

I guess it's some dynamic linking issue?

As to Totem, I have both gstreamer1.0-libav and gstreamer1.0-plugins-
ugly installed.

[Bug 1728514] [NEW] mpv won't play videos because no libcudart.so.7.5, totem won't play mp4 and h264

2017-10-30 Thread Noam Mor
Public bug reported:

Trying to play any video with mpv (or just running mpv --help), I'm
getting:

mpv: error while loading shared libraries: libcudart.so.7.5: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory

MPEG-4 and H.264 videos currently don't work in Totem - I'm getting a
messagebox telling me that I don't have the codecs. Clicking "Find in
Ubuntu Software" gives a sad face in Ubuntu Software. Command line
output:

** Message: Missing plugin: gstreamer|1.0|totem|H.264 (High Profile)
decoder|decoder-video/x-h264, level=(string)4.1, profile=(string)high,
interlace-mode=(string)progressive (H.264 (High Profile) decoder)

** Message: Missing plugin: gstreamer|1.0|totem|MPEG-4 Video
(Advanced Simple Profile) decoder|decoder-video/mpeg,
mpegversion=(int)4, systemstream=(boolean)false, profile=(string
)advanced-simple, level=(string)5 (MPEG-4 Video (Advanced Simple
Profile) decoder)

I have already tried apt install --reinstall-ing all gstreamer packages,
everything ffmpeg related. I reinstalled ubuntu-restricted-extras and
ubuntu-restricted-addons. I tried deleting the gstreamer cache directory. I
removed CUDA 8.0 (which I installed months ago from the nvidia repositories),
just in case.

I have nvidia-387 installed from the graphics drivers ppa, but that
doesn't seem related because as far as I can see, libcudart.so.7.5 isn't
anywhere in the Ubuntu repositories. I am certain that prior to
installing nvidia-387 (when I had nvidia-384 from the Ubuntu
repositories), the videos were not playing either.

I don't know if I'm experiencing one bug or two bugs but I suspect it's
one bug. Everything was working correctly in Ubuntu 17.04 prior to the
17.10 update.

[Bug 1728384] [NEW] gnome-shell crashes when searching files

2017-10-29 Thread Noam Mor
Public bug reported:

I observed that gnome-shell crashes when I tried to load the Software
Sources application. After a bit of trial and error it turned out that
the crash only occurs if searching files is enabled in Settings. I can
reliably trigger the crash by typing "so" into the search box.

Sometimes only the search window crashes, leaving all windows open.
Other times Gnome crashes, returning me to the login screen after around
20 seconds.

When the files search is off, no crash is observed.

Attached is a syslog excerpt for the crash. It has two searches - I
searched for "s", and then I searched for "so", both with Files search
on. The crash occurs after the second search.

[Bug 1650927] Re: accessing local ethernet is possible, accessing internet is not possible (Ubuntu MATE 17.04, ppc)

Same here. Adding 8.8.8.8 in NetworkManager didn't work. Pinging
websites didn't work, but pinging their IP did work. Weirdly, even when
ping didn't work, it printed the IP.

As suggested here:

I disabled DNSSEC. Now I can access the Internet.

[Bug 1527885] Re: freeze when moving windows between workspaces

2015-12-20 Thread Noam Mor
I dragged windows for a couple of minutes until I got the hang. I got

should probably be installed but I'm not sure which. Awaiting

made me restart my computer a couple of times in the past.

[Bug 1527885] [NEW] freeze when moving windows between workspaces

2015-12-19 Thread Noam Mor
Public bug reported:

I get occasional freezes when moving windows from one desktop to another
by dragging them with the mouse in the Workspace Switcher view.

Perhaps one in 50-100 drags, I'm stuck in the four workspaces view, with
the mouse cursor in the shape of a clutching hand (as when a window is
currently being dragged), unable to let go of the window. When moving
the mouse and pressing a keyboard button (I tried left alt), the window
I'm stuck dragging gets moved on screen, but only moving the mouse does
not move the window on screen - i.e only the mouse cursor moves, until I
pressed left alt, and then the window appeared where the mouse was.

Alt-shift works in this weird mode, so does print screen. I alt-tabbed
to my console and issued sudo init 6 to escape this situation.
