[Bug 1552216] Re: Laptop hangs during second time it suspends
Sorry, Christopher, I disagree with that assessment of the situation. This when the Jan said the Live image worked. That isn't an indication that this is now fixed, it's an indication that the Live image works. It works for me too. On a technical level, that in itself is a clear indication this is related to the graphics stack. This bug is still valid IMO. I'll shut up if Jan says this is fixed for them now (in a proper install) but otherwise I think this has just been improperly triaged. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1552216 Title: Laptop hangs during second time it suspends To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1552216/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1552216] Re: Laptop hangs during second time it suspends
I see the same behaviour on a 16.04 desktop with a Nvidia 970. Before this I was successfully suspending many times per session using 14.04 with a Wily HWE stack so I think that excludes 4.2 from directly being the problem. I have since disabled timed suspend but if the monitor has been turned off (via DPMS), first-time manual suspend fails. The 16.04 Live image also suspends fine. That uses Nouveau though. So I think the common factor between us is the proprietary Nvidia driver and Maxwell (we're on different generations but, still). I've tried versions 358 and 364 of the driver but both are broken for me on 16.04. Unfortunately I upgraded to my 970 (from a 580) about the same time I upgraded to 16.04 so I can't rule out it being just a Maxwell issue. [Bug 1550923] Re: 16.04's virtualenv uses Python 3 but python executable is Python 2
Sidebar: /usr/bin/python seems to be the implicit default too, even for this Python3-based version. Thanks for staying with me in such a calm manner, Barry. I can get on board with that but I'm still seeing real-world problems with the outcome. It's probably something unrelated to Python 3. When it comes to pip+source packages that have to be built it can't do it. I don't know why. You can repro on a fresh computer: sudo apt install virtualenv python-virtualenv python-dev mercurial /usr/bin/virtualenv -p /usr/bin/python2.7 test-venv ./test-venv/bin/pip install hg+https://bitbucket.org/bittner/django-apptemplates/#egg=django-apptemplates You'll see a hairy error about "ImportError: No module named _markerlib". Activating doesn't make any difference. I've had this problem with quite a few packages now. If you install python-pip and then run `sudo pip install virtualenv`, and use /usr/local/bin/virtualenv to create the environment, you can install everything. The versions of pip used appear to be the same. I'm honestly unsure what's causing this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1550923 Title: 16.04's virtualenv uses Python 3 but python executable is Python 2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-virtualenv/+bug/1550923/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1550923] Re: 16.04's virtualenv uses Python 3 but python executable is Python 2
Oh if it were that easy. `python -m virtualenv` does not work. Python2's virtualenv couldn't be called as a module. And that's the problem. I don't disagree with a want to move away from Python 2, but there are many developers and organisations that are still managing their upgrades from 2-to-3, who maintain multiple environments with both versions. I have dozens of virtualenvs on my server. Changing how a basic tool like virtulenv is packaged (indeed, in practice it ISN'T packaged for Python 2 now) just annoying. The easiest fix is `sudo pip install virtualenv` which supplants the whole thing and means you have to use the full path for the Python3 version. If you still haven't seen how silly the state of this is, just look at pip (python-pip, /usr/bin/pip). It's still Python 2!! So no. You could break all the things, break all the people, or put things back to how they should be. A wontfix here really only serves to make Ubuntu (and Debian) worse.

[Bug 1019914] Re: Audio is skipping every ~1 minute .
Hi, I'm also affected by this bug. Anecdotally this also appears to be related to Chrome for me. If I close Chrome, then listening to music is fine (Spotify). With Chrome open, I get occasional stuttering of the system audio. Chrome being open affects audio not just from Chrome (e.g. Youtube) but also other apps like Spotify, even when there should be no audio coming from Chrome. Not sure if it's related, but I am occasionally noticing Chrome 'sticking' for a fraction of a second for example when scrolling on a page. The 'sticking' does not appear to be related to anything specific on the page, and like the audio appears more like some regular event being triggered. I tried filing a separate bug report but after several hours launchpad timed out 'processing'. -Oli -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1019914 Title: Audio is skipping every ~1 minute . [Bug 974242] Re: Compiz edge detection code is moving windows against my will
Just to echo the others: an hour of testing in, and I've nothing but joy to report. This patch makes Compiz/Gnome-Fallback usable. Things behave as you would expect: windows aren't jumping all over the place or getting stuck, and, per the other bug, the panel isn't getting in the way of fullscreen applications. @monjurul@88 it's a bit hectic: sudo apt-get build-dep compiz sudo apt-get install devscripts wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/974242/+attachment/3141645/+files/fix-974242.patch apt-get source compiz cd compiz* # you might want to replace the * patch -p1 < ~/Desktop/fix-974242.patch dpkg-source --commit debuild -us -uc That should dump a whole collection of debs in `..`. After that just install the ones you need with `dpkg -i`. If you're using nvidia (pointedly the xorg-edgers PPA version) you might have problems compiling things that link to /usr/lib/libGL.so* so I just moved those files to my desktop, ran the `debuild -us -uc` command again and after that, moved the libGL files back. [Bug 974242] Re: Compiz edge detection code is moving windows against my will
I have tracked this down to the Place Window plugin. Disabling the plugin releases a window from its edge-captivity and while it's turned off future border clashes don't ensnare windows. That would be great if it wasn't so necessary. Compiz is near-unusable without it so that's only ever a temporary fix. And this is testing with the precise-proposed version, 0.9.7.6-0ubuntu1. It was the same before trying -proposed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/974242 Title: Compiz edge detection code is moving windows against my will To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/974242/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have found that enabling the "Keep previews of minimized windows"-workaround in CCSM fixes this. [Bug 974242] [NEW] Compiz edge detection code is moving windows against my will
Public bug reported: My screen is Nvidia Twinview setup and I'm using Gnome Classic with Compiz. I have found that since updating to 12.04 windows have two detrimental regressions. 1. If I place a window between the first and second monitor (so it overlaps both), the window is forced back over. I can understand this for off-screen windows but between-monitors is silly. And there should be an option for turning this off if there isn't one already. 2. If I place a window half-off the bottom of the screen, all hell breaks loose. Firstly it snaps back up so it's all on the screen (makes sense if you like that sort of thing), but after that, there's no way to detach it from the bottom of the screen. As soon as you do (and then click anywhere) it snaps back down so the bottom of the window is back at the bottom of the screen. The same is true with the top (if you move a window too high up (say holding alt and left-click-dragging the bottom up). I've found no way to work around this other than to close the window and start again, or restart compiz. The first is a dual-screen issue, the second might affect everybody; but they definitely seem related. [Bug 973366] [NEW] Minimising applications go to the wrong window list (with Compiz)
Public bug reported: I have two screens in Twinview. On each screen there is a Gnome-Panel at the bottom, each with its own window-list applet. Simple enough. If I open a window and move it over the second screen, the window list (correctly) updates. But if I then minimise the application, it and its window-list entry move over to the primary screen. Restoring the application from the primary window-list applet moves it back to the second screen. Steps for reproduction: - Prereqs: gnome-panel, compiz, two screens in Twinview - Create a new panel on second screen - Add Window List applet to new panel - Open any new window and move over to second screen - Minimise the window (in any way) - Glory as the window-list entry moves over to the primary window-list-applet. I should point out that this only seems to happen with Compiz. I admit I have very little understanding about how the window-list applet interfaces with the WM to get the lists of applications so this could very easily be a Compiz issue as much as it is a Gnome-Panel issue. Feel free to call me an idiot for filing it in the wrong place. [Bug 973201] [NEW] Scroll bars have no contrast in some windows
Public bug reported: I am not using the overlay scrollbars. They are disabled. The scrollbars on some windows (Nautilus, Update Manager, Image Viewer, USC, palimpsest, etc) seem to have very little contrast. In Firefox the scrollbar track (aka trough) has a dark line on both sides. The slider fits inside the track. In nautilus (et al) the slider appears to be too large, and not outlined. The effect is a very hard to find slider. I've attached a screenshot showing the comparison between Nautilus and Firefox. [Bug 776067] [NEW] Applications fail to get correct geometry when hidden/shown with Compiz
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz I apologise for the cryptic title. I'll try to explain. I use the "Classic" gnome-panels desktop with Compiz. Several applications provide Notification area icons that if clicked will toggle the visibility of the application (gwibber, banshee, liferea, etc). When Compiz is used, each visibility cycle (from visible to invisible to visible) moves the window to the right by 7px. I suggest that something in the Window Manager is reporting or storing an incorrect z,y coordinate. This is constant for all applications that provide Notification Area icons to toggle visibility. Standard minimising/maximising does not illicit this bug. Things work as they should under Metacity, hence I'm filing this against Compiz. I found that the bonobo configuration files for the applets weren't being loaded (hence they weren't available in the add-to-panel dialogue). I edited bonobo-activation-config.xml to look something like this: /usr/lib/bonobo/servers /usr/local/lib/bonobo/servers And everything but the clock works again. That's another issue for another day. But why is a better question. I have a whole load of config files that appear to have moved to dbus in brand-new installations. Why didn't my upgrade port these applets to the new system? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/765794 Title: Many "standard" panel applets not available -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
