[Bug 88807] Re: MMC/SM/XD/SD·MS/PRO slot dose n't work

2007-03-08 Thread Onkar Shinde
Since your laptop contains Texas Instruments card reader see if the
instructions at the end of my laptop report help you. These instructions
are for edgy but should work for feisty also.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HPNX6120

Please note that I have been able to make only SD card work with this
procedure. MS Pro didn't work for me (bug #85862) and I didn't have other cards.
If this procedure is helpful then you should file separate bugs for
auto-loading of the driver (tifm_sd module) and automounting of card (if that
doesn't work for you).

Hope this helps.

[Bug 83591] Re: no internet with chello austria cablemodems

2007-03-08 Thread Onkar Shinde
The dhcpd installed on your computer has nothing to do with cable modem.
Your cable modem should have a dhcp server inbuilt (as with most DSL
routers these days).

There should be a way to access admin console of your modem, if it has
any, through web browser. Contact modem provider for this. Or try
configuring your ethernet card and provide some static ip ex.

[Bug 82335] Re: network-manager should not set offline mode when it manages no device

2007-02-24 Thread Onkar Shinde
This bug affects the network detection by gaim and liferea also. I am using a
DSL router and my NIC is configured statically.
But network-manager can not detect connection.
1. Due to this gaim waits infinitely for connection unless I disable all
accounts and enable them again.
2. Liferea always starts in offline more.

[Bug 87566] Nautilus should show CD label for mounted iso image

2007-02-24 Thread Onkar Shinde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubuntu 7.04.

I have downloaded feisty alternate CD and I keep the ISO image mounted at
/media/feisty and use it as file repository.
I will be nice if nautilus could show CD label for this (or any other) ISO
instead of directory name.

Currently we see drive labels for hard disks and usb disks. So I believe
this shouldn't be too hard for ISO images.

Please consider this a wishlist if not a bug.

@Adam,

I followed your advice and it works. But it is still annoying. I have to
manually set status to available for gaim to be able to connect.
What is more annoying is that I have disabled network-manager in my session
properties and still the problem exists.

[Bug 89157] Add account type 'Google Talk'

2007-03-02 Thread Onkar Shinde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gossip-telepathy

Using Ubuntu Feisty with latest updates.

To connect to Google Talk I had to provide different settings than
default for jabber.

Following are the differences
1. Port 5223. I am not sure if 5222 works. It works in Gaim.
2. Use SSL. Gaim uses TLS, but there is no way to specify TLS in gossip
3. Server is talk.google.com. AFAIK by default server is guessed from username
of the form [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It will be good to have an account type as Google Talk although protocol
and connection management is same. This will help new users.

[Bug 92573] xorg.conf is updated before driver installation

2007-03-15 Thread Onkar Shinde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: restricted-manager

Using feisty with latest updates.

Just now I discovered the new package restricted manager which allows one to
install binary drivers and enable them in xorg.conf. I was just curious as to
how it works. Since I am using ATI card it showed me that I could install fglrx
driver. I started installation and then realized that I don't need it because I
am using ATI Radeon 7000 which needs open source drivers, so I canceled the
install.
On next reboot my X wouldn't start because the xorg.conf was modified to use
fglrx module.
This is serious. Although I myself canceled the install, it is very likely that
install is canceled due to other reasons like lost network connection etc. And
this will break X startup for no reason.

[Bug 92577] Should not offer binary drivers for all Radeon cards

2007-03-15 Thread Onkar Shinde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: restricted-manager

Using feisty with latest updates.

I am using ATI Radeon 7000 card which needs open source drivers. In such
case restricted-manager should not offer installation of binary drivers.
AFAIK, if I use binary drivers X won't start as these drivers do not
support Radeon below 9000.

** Affects: restricted-manager (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 92481] Re: [feisty] eclipse should not have hard-coded dependency on gij

2007-03-15 Thread Onkar Shinde
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: eclipse

- currently, the eclipse package shipped with ubuntu is hard-coded to depened
on the gij jvm,
- which is much slower that sun-java-1.6.
+ Currently, the eclipse package in repositories depends on gij jvm through
chained dependecies.
+ eclipse->eclipse-platform->java-gcj-compat->gij-4.1
+ gij jvm is much slower that Sun Java 1.5 or 1.6.

- since gij, sun-java-1.5, sun-java-1.6 are all in the ubuntu's repositores, i
think it would be better
- if the dependency will be on either of them, rather than specifically on gij.
+ Since gij, sun-java-1.5, sun-java-1.6 are all in the ubuntu's repositores, i
think it would be better if the dependency will be on either of them, rather
than specifically on gij.
+ This could be solved by changing dependency of eclipse-platform to
'java-gcj-compat | sun-java5-jre | sun-java6-jre'
+ If possible make only packages ending with -gcj depend on gij/gcj ex.
eclipse-platform-gcj

plus, switching eclipse jvm is done editing /etc/eclipse/java_home, and it is
not selectable
using dpkg --reconfigure java-alternatives, or other, more obvious way.

  thanks in advance!

[Bug 92573] Re: xorg.conf is updated before driver installation

2007-03-16 Thread Onkar Shinde
Following are the steps I did.

1. Start RM. It shows ATI accelerated graphics driver.
2. I click on 'Enable'. A confirmation dialog is presented.
3. After I confirm, it starts downloading the package.
4. I cancel the download
5. I check xorg.conf and it is already modified to use binary driver.

Perhaps you didn't encounter the download step due to presence of .deb
in apt package cache.

By the way, I am aware of bug #92498. :-)
