Ironically https://bugs.debian.org/1063533 has a request in the opposite
direction...

Ack.

Currently I'm in favor of documenting, also because I know that there
are packages out there that rely on this. It does means that yes, the
order of the stanza matter.

[Bug 1970807] Re: Incompatible graphmath.ppu unit

2022-04-30 Thread Paul Gevers
The upgrade process *should not* remove lazarus and fpc, that's a bug.
Do you happen to have the logs of when this happened such that we can
figure out why there were removed?

However, the install process doesn't put anything in .lazarus. If
anything, that's left over from the previous version (as stuff in the
home folder is not to be touched during removal). Apparently lazarus
doesn't handle old local files in the home folder gracefully.

[Bug 1970194] Re: ubuntu 22.04 package wordpress incompatible with default php version 8.1

2022-04-27 Thread Paul Gevers
@Simon, thanks for the reply. Yes, it was about "not well maintained".
I'm well aware how Ubuntu works as I have contributed in the past,
although nowadays nearly all my work flows in via Debian. What I meant
explicitly here is that the problem related to the shiny new PHP in the
last Ubuntu release was solved in Debian before the Ubuntu release and
would have been automatically shipped (if I counted correctly) with the
Ubuntu release if it were not have been for the Ubuntu delta.

I didn't say nor intended that Ubuntu should be following the latest
upstream in released suites, we don't do that in Debian either (except
for the rare exceptions to that rule).

[Bug 1970194] Re: ubuntu 22.04 package wordpress incompatible with default php version 8.1

2022-04-26 Thread Paul Gevers
Hmm, I don't like the tone of @Simon, but I see where it's coming from.
wordpress is one of those packages where it's biting Ubuntu's users that
Ubuntu choose to use MySQL, while Debian choose MariaDB. Normally, most
packages are maintained in Debian changes there flow into Ubuntu
automatically. However, MySQL requires changes to the wordpress package
that haven't been made in Debian. Therefore wordpress needs to be
updated for all the relevant Debian updates, and unfortunately that
didn't happen with the latest version.

It would be good if the delta could be merged in Debian somehow, but I
suspect it needs work on the Ubuntu side to prepare that.

that package ran its postinst script (the script that runs during

[Bug 1844070] [NEW] cacti translations don't work

2019-09-15 Thread Paul Gevers
Public bug reported:

In version 1.2.4+ds1-1 I removed the dependency on php-php-gettext as it
has no security support in Debian and has been removed from bullseye.
However, I was informed wrongly that this was optional and now
translations are broken.

See upstream bugs https://github.com/Cacti/cacti/issues/2508 and
https://github.com/Cacti/cacti/issues/2924

As Ubuntu still has php-php-gettext, just adding the dependency back is
probably the best way forward for Eoan Ermine.

dynare (4.5.5-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream version 4.5.5
  * d/copyright: reflect upstream changes
  * Drop texlive2018.patch, applied upstream
  * dynare-matlab.postinst: fix logic for detecting MATLAB version.
The test was broken with newer MATLAB versions.

I think it is wise to provide your command line. (I did one that worked

I'll check, but I think autopkgtest will happily take it. So it is the
providing infrastructure that needs to be updated for that. I'll add
this to my TODO list for the Debian infrastructure.

[Bug 1760810] Re: Non-pinned available package in -proposed not chosen

2018-05-18 Thread Paul Gevers
Hmm, maybe it was just the syntax being wrong. The following line at
least succeeded:

--solver aspcud -o APT::Solver::Strict-Pinning=false -o
APT::Solver::aspcud::Preferences='-removed,-changed,-new,+count(solution
,APT-Pin:=/995/)'

Next up, checking that it does what I want.

Just a worry that came up thinking about the request to aspcud: I think
it is allowed to come up with solutions that don't involve any package
from -proposed/unstable. So I think that if we go this route (and I
think we should/must, not only for the issue encountered in this bug),
autopkgtest must check that packages from the triggers are NOT from
!-proposed/testing.

This exact same command doesn't crash for me (on Debian buster in KDE).
The issue may be resolved in the mean time, or we need to figure out
what really triggers the issue.

Ack. You are not seeing a scroll bar at the bottom of the page I assume.
You're font is rather big, but that shouldn't be an excuse. Not easy to

[Bug 1728210] Re: package liferea (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: le sous-processus script post-installation installé a retourné une erreur de sortie d'état 1

2017-10-28 Thread Paul Gevers
Can you please run the installation again with LC_ALL=C.UTF-8? My french
is too poor to read what is going on.

One thing I note though, it seems there is a version of liferea involved
that has never been part of Ubuntu and as such, can not be supported. If
you can't install with LC_ALL=C.UTF-8 set, I recommend removing liferea
before installing it again.

[Bug 1399945] Re: Settings, Preferences, ect. - All keyboard input is added twice

2017-09-20 Thread Paul Gevers
I just found this link¹; does it help to prevent the issue?

'''
Typing in edit fields generate duplicate letters

This is more likely to happen under Ubuntu and Ubunto derived distros,
and with GNOME Desktop but other distros/Desktop environments can be
affected too.

The problem is originated by bugs in the ibus Input Method System.
Unfortunately Ibus is the default input method of GNOME desktop.

If you don't know what an IM is, this means that you do not need it, and
therefore the easiest way is to disable IM's at all.

In order to do that you have a number of options, namely:

1 - Disable (or set to "none") the Input Method in System
Settings->Preferences->Input Method

2 - Add the three following lines in /etc/profile (system wide)

export GTK_IM_MODULE=gtk-im-context-simple
export QT_IM_MODULE=simple
export XMODIFIERS=@im=none

3 - Add a file named input_method.sh containing just the 3 lines
above in /etc/profile.d (system wide)

4 - Add the 3 lines above in the home directory ~/.xprofile (per
user). If there's no ~/.xprofile in your home directory, you should
create one.

5 - Create a Lazarus launching script containing the same 3 lines.
(affects only Lazarus)

Methods 1 and 2 may not survive after a system update, while 3,4 and 5
will.

Be aware that both GTK and QT applications may change dynamically the
IM. If you experience the problem in an apparently random way, chances
are good that some other application is enabling again an IM and fails
to set to default when terminates. If such is the case method 5 is the
only one suitable.

You may find more information about Input Methods, and how to deal with
them in:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/I18N/InputMethods[2] (This is Fedora
specific but most informations apply in general)

http://www.pinyinjoe.com/linux/ubuntu-12-chinese-setup.htm[3] (This is Ubuntu
specific, but again most informations apply in general. It explains how to
enable IM but the info can be used also to disable it)

2017-09-06 Thread Paul Gevers
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I am wondering, did you read the error message?

unable to securely remove '/usr/share/doc/liblouis-
data/changelog.Debian.gz.dpkg-new': Read-only file system

Apparently with your fsck fixes you changed a part of the filesystem
into read-only. You can't expect this to work. (Well, technically there
is supposed to be a way to not get stuff in /usr/share/doc/ but that is
not by blocking writes to that file system).

Please reopen this bug if you think I judged this wrong, but please give
us more information what you expect us to do.

I have seen this error "Specified key was too long; max key length is
1000 bytes" when I tried to install an older version of cacti on a newer
MariaDB. Is the MySQL/MariaDB server running the default Ubuntu package
on the localhost or is it running remotely? If the latter which one
(MySQL or MariaDB) is it running and which version.

@Tim, you're running Debian, why report the bug in Ubuntu. Please run
"reportbug gnome-orca" on the computer where you experience problems. If
your computer is not set up (properly) to send e-mails, instead of
hitting "Y" on the final question "Submit this report on gnome-orca (e
to edit)" you can answer "p" and copy/paste the content and e-mail to
"sub...@bugs.debian.org".

If you don't provide the password ("using password NO') there is nothing
the package can do about it.

(By the way, in newer versions dbconfig-common is smarter and tries to
use /etc/mysql/debian.cnf configuration to connect, but that isn't
available in 14.04).

Where did you get this from? This isn't a 16.04 Ubuntu package.

Thanks for debugging this. I'll fix it in the cacti package soon (but
only in artful and Debian unstable) and I'll report the issue upstream.

Hmm, that is weird, as it is clearly listed in the list of cacti files¹
(it is a symlink though).

Because this bug only expresses itself when one uses the cacti package
with a MariaDB server 10.2.4 or higher (which isn't even in Ubuntu yet
AFAICT), I don't think the bug warrants fixing in older Ubuntu releases.
If you still want to get this fixed, you can follow the backport procedure².

Is the MariaDB server you are running for this cacti installation also
running in Ubuntu 16.04? If not, which version of MariaDB is it running?

We had lots of issues during the release of Ubuntu 16.04 to get cacti
working (especially due to last minute upgrade to php 7.0) and the error
you're reporting would have shown up.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a
duplicate of bug 1568072, so it is being marked as such. The issue you
are encountering is that you installed the fpc package from upstream
(probably when you were installing the lazarus package). The lazarus
team is not making fpc packages that are fully compatible with how
things are done in Debian/Ubuntu. That is not something that is
desirable to fix on our side. However, we normally work around that
issue, but that work around was temporarily missed, so the package that
finally went into Xenial doesn't have it.

You can easily fix the issue on your system by running
apt-get remove fpc
apt-get install fpc

[Bug 1684280] Re: Running espeak with mbrola voices results in error

2017-04-21 Thread Paul Gevers
For what it is worth it, I can't reproduce this in Debian Stretch,

paul@testavoira ~ $ /usr/bin/espeak-ng -v mb-us3 "Hello world"

Note, espeak-ng doesn't actually speak the words, I'll file a bug about

And shouldn't this bug be assigned to mbrola? The error is:

Sleeping on it another night makes sense. I understand what I was doing
wrong yesterday, I forgot to change the rrd file definition when

Indeed, if someone wants to increase the frequency to something higher

bug.

I'll file a bug in Debian as well and will try to get a release

instead of split.

[Bug 1662027] Re: cacti vs PHP 7 vs split

2017-04-12 Thread Paul Gevers
Hmm, I must also admit that I don't fully understand what this feature
is for (it doesn't seem to do what I expected).

Anybody that does now, can you explain why this should be fixed in older
releases?

[Bug 1662027] Re: cacti vs PHP 7 vs split

2017-04-12 Thread Paul Gevers
Ouch, I forgot about this issue.

@Nish: It looks like that indeed. Are you asking the last questions for
a specific reason? It is the first time I see somebody ask me such a
question from the Ubuntu side.

I must admit that I underestimated the impact of this bug, please go
ahead.

[Bug 1674002] Re: package dbconfig-common 2.0.4ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: le sous-processus script post-installation installé a retourné une erreur de sortie d'état 10

2017-03-18 Thread Paul Gevers
Could you please add the dpkg log (this is normally automatically
added)? Without the context of the error, there is nothing to act on.

** Changed in: dbconfig-common (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Incomplete
