[Bug 783633] [NEW] [Natty] Grub no longer boots after upgrade nvraid
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub2 After upgrading from Maverick Meerkat to Natty Narwhal, grub will no longer boot to any of my partitions. I am using Ubuntu 64 bit. I have managed to boot back into Ubuntu by replacing this line: set root='(/dev/mapper/nvidia_bfhaeede,msdos5)' with this one: set root='(hd0,5)' I thought maybe that grub would need to be updated, so I tried update- grub once I managed to boot, but still faced the same problem when I rebooted. I also tried reinstalling the grub and grub-common packages through Synaptic. Here is the result of fdisk -l james@james-desktop:~$ sudo fdisk -l /dev/mapper/nvidia_bfhaeede Disk /dev/mapper/nvidia_bfhaeede: 1000.2 GB, 1000215674880 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121602 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 65536 bytes / 131072 bytes Disk identifier: 0x000a81f9 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/mapper/nvidia_bfhaeede1 1 19122 1535974035 Extended Partition 1 does not start on physical sector boundary. /dev/mapper/nvidia_bfhaeede2 * 19123 38244 1535974657 HPFS/NTFS Partition 2 does not start on physical sector boundary. /dev/mapper/nvidia_bfhaeede3 38245 38766 4192965 82 Linux swap / Solaris Partition 3 does not start on physical sector boundary. /dev/mapper/nvidia_bfhaeede4 38767 121602 6653801707 HPFS/NTFS Partition 4 does not start on physical sector boundary. /dev/mapper/nvidia_bfhaeede5 1956176798669+ 83 Linux Partition 5 does not start on physical sector boundary. /dev/mapper/nvidia_bfhaeede69562 1434138395318+ 83 Linux Partition 6 does not start on physical sector boundary. /dev/mapper/nvidia_bfhaeede7 14342 1912238403200 83 Linux I will also attach grub.cfg. [Bug 727956] [NEW] 2.6.35-27-generic Nvidia graphics fail on latest kernel
Public bug reported: I am using Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit version and a Geforce 9600GT. When I applied updates using Update Manager I installed a newer kernel (2.6.35-27-generic). When I rebooted the system, I could not get X to start. I have tried using a couple of extra boot parameters like nomodeset and and rdblacklist=nouveau, in case it was some sort of regression, but these didn't work. For now I am booting from the 2.6.35-25-generic kernel. I'm not sure how I can provide you with more bug report information for this newer kernel if i can't get x. Would booting into a shell on the -27 kernel and using ubuntu-bug -p linux work? [Bug 689139] [NEW] shotwell imports no files from pictures folder
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: shotwell Bug can be reproduced on my machine by opening Shotwell, going to File Import From Folder... then choosing my /home/user/Pictures folder. When I attempt to import the pictures a dialogue box comes up saying; Import complete - 1 non-image file skipped. This folder contains 491 items, 27 of them are subfolders, the rest are .jpg, .gif, .png, .pspimage, .psd etc. This folder is a symlink to /media/share/Pictures /media/share is a mounting point for an NTFS partion, perhaps related to this bug? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/636084 However, maybe not as all subfolders which contain images within them import OK. Edit: Have just imported the photos from the directory rather than from the symbolic link and it has worked successfully so I guess that means it has a problem with the symbolic link. [Bug 669737] [NEW] gparted does not show nvraid partitions
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gparted I think this may have something to do with a bug I reported before; https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/575473. The reason being is because I think ubiquity uses GParted to determine partitions in the install process which could explain why grub wasn't installed correctly? When I open GParted all I can see is /dev/sda and /dev/sdb. I cannot see /dev/mapper/nvidia_bfhaeede which is my 1TB RAID stripe which I mentioned in the other bug; 150GB ext4 4GB linux-swap 150GB ntfs and the remainder another ntfs. 'Disk utility' sees these partitions fine, however. I don't think this is a problem with dmraid as if I use dmraid from the terminal it says the partitions are already mounted fine. And in Maverick and Lucid I have had no problems accessing these partitions as I use all except the 150GB ntfs frequently. However I think I may have had trouble accessing these partitions on the Live CD but can't remember exactly what. If you think this is relevant I will check to make certain. [Bug 657478] [NEW] Gwibber causing beam.smp to cause high CPU load and memory usage
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gwibber I have noticed my computer has been running a little slow for a while. I tried to get to the bottom of it and realised that 'beam.smp' was using a lot of RAM. To combat this bug, I went to System Preferences Broadcast Preferences and unticked the choice; 'Start service at log- in'. Now, if I try to start Gwibber beam.smp memory usage drastically increases again, but also CPU load is very high, and after waiting five minutes the application did not load. I have not used Gwibber beyond trying it out when I first installed Lucid, but have it installed on my machine and my Facebook account has been entered on there. I am using Ubuntu Lucid 64-bit. [Bug 575473] Re: Grub not installed on Lucid clean install
A possibility. I had a 250GB IDE hard drive connected up at the time with one single NTFS partition and no OS installed on it. I didn't tick to 'use' this on the installation. -- Grub not installed on Lucid clean install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575473 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 575472] [NEW] gnome appearance properties not displaying under certain circumstances
Public bug reported: Hi. The problem started yesterday. I booted the PC and everything about the window manager was without theme (Ambiance). I rebooted and the problem was solved. Today I booted the computer again and was faced with the same problem. I rebooted again, but the problem remained. After about a minute the theme was applied and things were looking back to normal, except Nautilus which is still without theme (not running as root). To combat the problem so far, I have tried rebooting which doesn't work but which now seems like a way I could replicate the bug. Also I have tried applying different themes to get the customisation back on Nautilus. There are two clues I have as to what it may be that is causing the problem. The first is that I used ubuntu-tweak to change the Ambiance buttons back to the right hand side of the title bars. Also, I think the problem may be something to do with the fact that I have chosen the option to log in automatically, which may be halting the window manager somehow when it asks for my keyring password. [Bug 575473] [NEW] Grub not installed on Lucid clean install
Public bug reported: I installed Lucid 10.04 LTS final amd64 two days ago. I installed by starting the install process from within the Live CD environment. The partition table was setup _before_ i installed, and Ubuntu was installed to a blank ext4 partition. Windows XP Professional was already installed on a different partition, and when I rebooted on completion of install it booted straight from master boot record into XP. To fix I reinstalled grub from the live CD environment, then rebooted. I installed grub on the same ext4 partition where Ubuntu was installed. I think possibly because I'd already setup a partition table, the setup assumed that I already had grub installed. Partition table is: 150GB ext4 4GB linux-swap 150GB ntfs and the remainder another ntfs on a 1TB RAID0 stripe. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: ubiquity ** Tags added: ubiquity -- Grub not installed on Lucid clean install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575473 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 524767] [NEW] Scroll lock and caps lock lights not working
Public bug reported: I am using an Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard (Nforce 570 MCP55) and a generic PS/2 keyboard. For about a week now the LEDs for the caps lock and scroll lock keys haven't worked. The keys themselves do work. My system is a dual boot, and I have found that on the GRUB screen and anything before that the lights do work. Also the lights work on Windows XP Professional. I thought it might be down to a new kernel but I have had the .19 kernel for at least a month now. Apologies for the ambiguity but I have no idea what package could be causing this or if it is the kernel itself. Thanks for your help. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Scroll lock and caps lock lights not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524767 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 406486] Re: transmission: too many open files
I tried changing the limit to 2048 in Karmic and it seems that Transmission is slow to respond to clicks whilst torrents are downloading. Also occasionally when bringing it up by single clicking on the tray is sometimes greying it out for a few seconds. -- transmission: too many open files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/406486 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 239231] Re: Cannot name workspaces
Using Ubuntu 9.10 amd64 with Compiz effects enabled, using a GeForce 8500GT. I am also experiencing this bug. If it helps I also experienced this bug using Mandriva 2007.1 and 2008.0, so perhaps it is a Gnome bug rather than an Ubuntu specific one.
