Re: [Bug 1926225] Re: Maxima fails to start with error message "The assertion realpath(s, o) on line 471 of main.c in function mbin failed: Invalid argument Aborted (core dumped)"

2021-06-13 Thread PeterPall
The Ubuntu package is just the Debian packaging instructions executed on
Ubuntu. I still haven't found out how to deviate from that but normally
if the Ubuntu package doesn't work the Debian one doesn't either so it
might not matter.

The packaging instructions can be found in debian/control in
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/m/maxima/maxima_5.44.0-3.debian.tar.xz

Currently I don't have access to an unarchive to look into them.

Does the problem happen with wxMaxima, too? If not I would guess
something chokes on two subsequent slashes ("/") in a pathname.

[Bug 1872694] [NEW] undocked sidebars cannot be moved

2020-04-14 Thread PeterPall
Public bug reported:

This bug is Ubuntu focal-only and a few weeks ago it didn't happen.

How to reproduce:
- install wx3.0-examples
- go into the aui sample's folder
- compile the sample
- run the sample
- move the tree sidebar out of the main window
- try to move the tree sidebare again.
At least on my computer there is no way to archive the last step. My experience
is that with wxWidgets your mileage might vary with the session type. Mine is:

DESKTOP_SESSION=ubuntu-wayland

Why this is bad? Many wxWidgets-based applications (for example
wxMaxima) use detachable sidebars - that currently cannot be attached
again.

[Bug 1854552] [NEW] Failed to load the selected library 'std.cfg'. File not found

2019-11-29 Thread PeterPall
Public bug reported:

cppcheck-gui is installable without cppcheck - and this configuration
actually works. But the required file std.cfg is missing in this case
leading to the following error message:

Failed to load the selected library 'std.cfg'.

package named cppcheck-common. But an own package for one simple file
feels a bit strange.

[Bug 109943]

2019-11-06 Thread PeterPall
This user chrome is a real battery saver! Thanks! ...and the throbber in the
mouse pointer still tells me if thunderbird is busy.
---
If I understand this right we now have 2 things that are rendered in the same
thread and that use 100% of one CPU (indicated as 50% of the CPU power of a
2-CPU-System, 20% of the CPU power of a 5-cpu-system and 12,5% of the CPU power
of an 8-cpu one) if they get the chance of doing so. ...or was the progress
meter a Red Herring and it was only the throbber all along?

100% of one CPU normally doesn't indicate that something is amiss: The
CPU could be asleep 99% of the time and be busy 1% of the remaining
time. But the battery drain throbber+progress meter and generate seems
to indicate that the CPU won't sleep while there is indeterminate
progress...

[Bug 1012858]

2019-09-04 Thread PeterPall
- Updated my thunderbird to the newest Version (Thunderbird 68/Ubuntu)
- Set my "saved messages" folder to an imap one
- turned my Internet connection off
- Pressed Ctrl+S
- The progressbar went forth and back using 100% of one CPU
- Re-enabled my internet. The progressbar still goes haywire using 100% of one
CPU as the message dialogue telling the message could not be saved is still
active.
- Started the profiler
The profiler result should be downloadable here: https://perfht.ml/30UuI1F

[Bug 1828983] [NEW] isalpha() doesn't include Umlaute even if LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8

2019-05-14 Thread PeterPall
Public bug reported:

Hope this is the right package and not glibc: Got a bug report for
wxMaxima that Umlaute ("öäüÄÖÜß") aren't treated as ordinary letters
anymore. As wxMaxima uses the isalpha() command in order to see if
something is a letter and since wxMaxima uses utf8 that meant that
isalpha() doesn't recognize an unicode umlaut as letter anymore. Which
solved my problem: ispell.el in emacs currently divides words at any
umlaut.

LC_CTYPE seems to be set correctly, though:

gunter@marius:~$ locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=en_US:en
LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_TIME=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_NAME=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_ALL=

[Bug 1728012] Re: Many 3rd party scanner drivers are broken by a sane change

2019-05-07 Thread PeterPall
@Luca-mg: What your computer sees is the following:
 - You attach a device whose USB ID doesn't match any udev rule => the device
is accessible for the root user only.
 - then you as the root user start a program that uploads something to the
device.
 - the device disconnects and
 - a new device connects, this time using an USB ID there is an udev rule for.
This rule tells the device is a scanner. You are in the group "scanner" => You
can use it without root rights.

What you need is an udev rule that tells the system that the USB ID your
device has before its firmware is uploaded is a scanner, too. As soon as
udev knows that this device is a scanner it will give you the necessary
rights to upload the firmware without being root.

Then the answer is simple: extend the udev file with the usb if of the
scanner without firmware so use will give you write access to this
device, too. Once that is done sane can upload the firmware, the scanner
can identify itself as the model you have bought and you can scan. Seems
like we should collect the Epson usb IDs somewhere...

[Bug 1813462] [NEW] Shotwell is configured without the faces tool

2019-01-27 Thread PeterPall
Public bug reported:

Shotwell now comes with a faces detection tool in my opinion is a major feature.
In order to enable it after the

a

is missing.

[Bug 109943]

2018-12-26 Thread PeterPall
52.6.0 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 18.04. On both gnome on Xorg and gnome on Wayland the
progress bar uses 100% of one of my CPUs.
I know that if there is no other task a modern CPU tends to be in sleep mode
most of the time (which makes the only task automatically reach 100%). But the
progress bar also drains my battery in ca. 40 minutes and makes the CPU fan go
haywire => it seems to be hideously inefficient.

[Bug 109943]

2018-12-26 Thread PeterPall
@WaltS48: I guess I found out why this wasn't reproducible: There are 2
progress bars:
 * the one that is shown if the percentage of progress is known and
 * the one that is shown to indicate that an activity of unknown duration is in
progress.
Only the latter one uses 100% of one CPU.

The drawback is: As soon as the network connection drops as you go
mobile thunderbird's next attempt to connect to a server is likely to
trigger the "activity of unknown duration" type progressbar - and to
rapidly drain the accumulator if the mobile device.

Perhaps the activity indicator that has the problem should be better
referenced to as "throbber" as a 2nd thought

[Bug 1800424] [NEW] texi2dvi creates pdf instead of dvi files

2018-10-29 Thread PeterPall
Public bug reported:

Just grab a .texi file and do a

   texi2dvi

texi2dvi will call pdflatex instead of latex and will therefore create
an pdf, not a dvi file.

Why this is bad?

Every autoconf-based program offers a

texi2dvi and will abort with an error message if no .dvi file is
generated.

[Bug 1728012] Re: Many 3rd party scanner drivers are broken by a sane change

2018-09-26 Thread PeterPall
Making the library automatically look for plug-ins in all possible
places they can be found would be a great idea: This would mean that it
doesn't matter if the plug-in expects the library multiarch or not.

If I interpret the 0125-patch correctly it changes the path plugins are
found in instead of adding a second one.

[Bug 1713313] Re: Unable to launch pkexec'ed applications on Wayland session

2018-08-06 Thread PeterPall
This isn't a bug but a major feature of wayland: If you have root rights
you no more get access to the graphical user interface which makes it
harder for a gui application to spy on another application's keyboard
input. The backdraw of this is that every application that needs root
rights for its work has to be re-written to have 2 parts:

 - the actual gui application and
 - a small helper that gets root access using pkgkit

The second advantage of this security measure is that now no more the
whole application that might suffer from security flaws has root access,
but only the part that really needs root rights.

td;lr: The fact that gui applications no more run when given root rights
won't change. It is the applications that have to adapt.

[Bug 1759760] [NEW] Wayland: Out-of-memory results in unusable system.

2018-03-28 Thread PeterPall
Public bug reported:

Please re-assign this bug report as needed:

When I was using Xwindows if the system ran out of memory one of the
applications that was running was killed. Now that I am using Wayland
instead the mouse and the keyboard stop responding and using a hotkey in
order to switch to a different virtual console doesn't work any more.

My guess is that a process vital for wayland to work gets killed since
wayland isn't obviously connected to the user experience in the view of
many possible metrics.

My computer is using intel embedded graphics. But as gnome-shell
currently tends to occupy an additional megabyte per second (there is a
second but ticket on launchpad for that) and as I get the bug reports
for a mathematics program that is able to find big solutions, if needed
I frequently read "system becomes unresponsive" messages nowaday.

2018-03-17 Thread PeterPall
The problem is that wayland as a security measure *either* gives you
access to the display server *or* to root => the interactive part of
gufw needs to be running with the user account and the small portions
root privilleges are needed for need to be run by policykit. Which is a
good idea - but which synaptic and gufw currently fail to do.

Seems like my wireless chip doesn't support it: My dmesg starts with probing
the CPU on starting the kernel but doesn't contain this message.

=> I would be happy with btcoex_enable=1 without using bt_ant_diversity=1.
Hope that this method isn't a regression for wifi-only users. While bluetooth

2018-02-01 Thread PeterPall
I had tried all combinations:

 - btcoex_enable=0 and bt_ant_diversity=1 does help a little bit with
bluetooth. But not much
 - btcoex_enable=1 and bt_ant_diversity=0 does solve the bluetooth problem for
me
 - btcoex_enable=1 and bt_ant_diversity=1 Here I have the feeling that it makes
changing files and fast-forward/fast-backward smoother in mplayer
(btcoex_enable=1 and bt_ant_diversity=0 in rare cases gives "bluetooth device
stuck" messages, but working audio).
 - btcoex_enable=0 and bt_ant_diversity=0: Bluetooth keeps hanging *and* low
wifi performance while using bluetooth.

[Bug 1746164] Re: [ath9k] Enable Bluetooth-Wifi coexistence by default (bluetooth audio and network skip on Wifi activity)

2018-02-01 Thread PeterPall
In my case this configuration results in
 - a bluetooth hangs, but only if the WiFi is far away and only about once
every minute. But the connection losses I experienced with btcoex_enable=0
bt_ant_diversity=0 are nearly gone.
 - and changing the file in mplayer causes a short audio hang.

With btcoex_enable=1 and bt_ant_diversity=1 I don't get any connection
losses, audio runs smoothly without hangs and switching from a file to
another works smoothly, too.

[Bug 1746164] Re: Enable Bluetooth-Wifi coexistence by default [bluetooth audio and network skip on Wifi activity]

2018-01-30 Thread PeterPall
The user won't probably want to do that:
 - The new default reduces the Wifi Speed only while bluetooth is actually
trying to send (which isn't too often if the user isn't currently listening to
Bluetooth audio) and
 - If Bluetooth/Wifi coecistence isn't enabled Bluetooth (when trying to send
on the same frequency as the WiFi) tends to make the Wifi packet impossible to
read => The WiFi packet has to be retransmitted => WiFi might get even slower
than with Bluetooth-WiFi coexistence enabled.
 - Also since I have enabled Bluetooth-Wifi coexistence my wifi connection has
stopped dropping from time to time => my guess is that if Bluetooth can send
while WiFi does, this destroys packets and this happens to happen with every
packet for a while the connection WiFi might drop as the Bluetooth one might in
this case.

[Bug 405294] Re: A2DP Bluetooth audio skips terribly ["Skipping NNN us (= MMM bytes) in audio stream"]

2018-01-29 Thread PeterPall
Since the history of Bug 1746164 isn't visible here I'm adding the short
form here, too:

By default BT audio works fine on Ubuntu - if there is no WiFi active:
Both work on the same frequency range, 2 WiFi channel is about 20
Bluetooth Channels wide and every time a WiFi package is sent bluetooth
risks a packet loss.

We should ship things in a way that they work out-of-the-box => I am all
for providing this file with Ubuntu, possibly with Bluez.

In the case of my laptop btcoex_enable=1 would already do the trick.

Technical background:
 - https://wiki.freebsd.org/dev/ath_hal(4)/AntennaDiversity

Until the kernel default is updated Creating a file named
/etc/modprobe.d/bluetooth-audio.conf with the following content:

options ath9k btcoex_enable=1 bt_ant_diversity=1

should do the trick.

[Bug 1728012] Re: Many 3rd party scanner drivers are broken by a sane change

2018-01-29 Thread PeterPall
Seems like the 1st try for my patch is lost including its description =>

I've tried to create a patch that automatically applies all workarounds on
installing libsane1. The only thing I am not sure is the symlinks:
 - If we try to link the new directories to the old ones on a system update
(when the old dir still exists) the link cannot be created. Hence the patch
only creates them on a clean install.
 - and I have no idea if we can avoid creating the links on IA32 systems, too -
where they don't do harm, but don't help, neither.

Perhaps we should compile a list of all individual files Epson, Brother
and perhaps others provide and create a separate symlink for every file.
Any ideas? And any volunteers for this?

kernel default, not by a bug in bluez, see Bug 1746164.

I currently run the newest vanilla kernel using an Acer Aspire S7 with
an Intel chipset. Still my patch is needed on my system.

---

I have no experience in getting things changed in the kernel =>
attaching the corrected patch. But if you reassign the bug to "linux-
kernel" and mark this bug as duplicate of bug 405294 I'll try to do my
very best.

[Bug 1707352] Re: the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug-ins for sane

2018-01-29 Thread PeterPall
I hope this patch might make things work out-of-the-box on new installs.

I didn't find out how to prevent the link from /usr/lib64/ to
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu to appear on ia32. But hey don't harm.

And I didn't find any good way to handle the case that libsane is
updated when /usr/lib64 already exists: I can move all the 3rd-party
sane drivers over to the new directory. But what happens if there are
other libraries from the system that is upgraded and that still lie in
this directory?

An alternative would be finding out the names of all packages epson and
brother provide and symlink every file individually. Is it feasible to
create such a list?

** Patch added: "The 1st try to create a patch that makes libsane1 work
out-of-the-box with popular scanners."

[Bug 1746164] [NEW] Enable Bluetooth-Wifi coexistence by default [bluetooth audio and network skip on Wifi activity]

2018-01-29 Thread PeterPall
Public bug reported:

By default BT audio works fine on Ubuntu - if there is no WiFi active:
Both work on the same frequency range, 2 WiFi channel is about 20
Bluetooth Channels wide and every time a WiFi package is sent bluetooth
risks a packet loss.

Creating a file named /etc/modprobe.d/bluetooth-audio.conf with the
following content:

options ath9k btcoex_enable=1 bt_ant_diversity=1

resolves the problem and drastically increases bluetooth throughput for
all other use cases (bluetooth networking that doesn't drop every time
the WiFi probes something, lower latency Bluetooth HIDs.

We should ship things in a way that they work out-of-the-box => I am all
for providing this file with Ubuntu, possibly with Bluez.

In the case of my laptop btcoex_enable=1 would already do the trick.

[Bug 1738988] [NEW] lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings incompatible with wayland

2017-12-19 Thread PeterPall
Public bug reported:

As a security measure wayland allows programs *either* to connect to the
display *or* to be root: If a program needs root rights to do part of
its work it can use packagekit in order to give this specific portion of
the program root rights.

lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings both wants root rights and wants to connect
to the display - and therefore is denied the latter.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04
Package: lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings 1.2.1-2

[Bug 1707352] Re: the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug-ins for sane

2017-12-14 Thread PeterPall
That is right:
 - make libsane1's install script execute a few "ln" commands. Or add a
debian/.links
 - add a few udev scripts to libsane1's debian directory and a
debian/.install file that places them at the right places in the
filesystem
 - and somehow make ubuntu ship the resulting package instead of the old one.
I've never found any documentation on how to actually do this. But I've always
read that everyone is invited in fixing bugs in ubuntu packages... ...that
means: http://packaging.ubuntu.com/html/fixing-a-bug.html

If we change the things that are needed and submit the change to debian
- that might fix many upcoming releases of many linux flavours. If the
changes are backported to ubuntu afterwards, that is.

[Bug 1707352] Re: the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug-ins for sane

2017-12-14 Thread PeterPall
The manufacturers won't. And if each manufacturer would try to create
all the symlinks needed in order to make the drivers work on all the
linux distries that tend to be broken in different ways that would
clearly be prone to create conflicts.

But if Ubuntu has broken things by starting to expect them in unexpected
places Ubuntu could automatically provide all the symlinks that are
needed to make the drivers appear in all the places they could or should
be - and nearly all drivers by nearly all manufacturers would restart
working out-of-the box without requiring intervention of the
manufacturers and applying fixes to every single driver.

That is the only thing I would ask: We now have found out to make the

picks up the changes - which greatly would improve the usability of
Linux?

About the Iscan, PNG and JPEG phenomenon: Iscan's png support still
depends on an very old version of libpng. If this library isn't found
support for the PNG format is dropped. I guess, libjpeg has been renamed
(and most probably has changed its interface), as well.

You are a genius! My MFC8510 and my Epson WorkForce GT-1500 now work fine...
...now we should forward this info to the sane programmers (perhaps they can
make the program look in both the old and the new locations), to Debian - and
to the manufacturers: Symlinks isn't hard to create in the postinstall scripts.
Perhaps they will add the necessary lines.

[Bug 825243] Re: tab completion converts input to uppercase

2017-11-02 Thread PeterPall
I've informed the maintainer of the compiler maxima was compiled with. In the
meantime I can recommend wxMaxima to you (which has its own autocompletion that
isn't affected by this bug) - or to
 - uninstall maxima
 - install the package maxima-common from
https://sourceforge.net/projects/maxima/files/Maxima-Linux/5.41.0-Linux/
 - install the package maxima-sbcl from the same location.

This package should (depending on the problem) be more or less as fast
as the maxima you have currently installed and it should not have the
autocompletion bug.

[Bug 1728012] [NEW] Many 3rd party scanner drivers are broken by a sane change

2017-10-27 Thread PeterPall
Public bug reported:

Many scanners can no more be used since sane has changed something: The
3rd-party plug-in the vendor provides as .deb package will still
install. But the scanner is no more recognized.

[Bug 1707352] Re: the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug-ins for sane

2017-10-22 Thread PeterPall
As a 2nd look this is actually 2 bugs:

  - renaming the library broke nearly all 3rd party drivers
  - some drivers were additionally broken by a upstream change.

Perhaps we should split the bug into two parts: Creating a "libsane"
that does nothing but depend on "libsane1" will fix the 1st of these
bugs. The second one might require help of the sane developers,
though...

** Description changed:

  Impact
  ==
- The Debian maintainer renamed libsane to libsane1-experimental "to match with
the soname". This apparently fixes a Lintian warning. Also the soname change
might be justified by the new version breaking most 3rd party plug-ins even if
the library version number doesn't any bigger change than any ordinary new
version of the library:
+
+ 1) The Debian maintainer renamed libsane to libsane1-experimental "to
+ match with the soname". This apparently fixes a Lintian warning, but
+ makes installing 3rd-party plug-ins hard, as they typically depend on
+ "libsane", not on "libsane1". The first try to add a "Provides: libsane"
+ to libsane1 (which created a virtual package) didn't make drivers
+ installable that claim to depend on a minimum version of libsane as
+ virtual packages are ignored in this case.
+
+ 2) The soname change might be justified by the new version breaking
+ (several? most?) 3rd party plug-ins even if the library version number
+ doesn't indicate any bigger change than any ordinary new version of the
+ library - which might indicate that this phenomenon might be an upstream
+ bug.

libsane 1.0.25 in zesty includes libsane.so.1.25
  libsane1 1.0.27 in artful includes libsane.so.1.27

- The breaking of all plug-ins might be an upstream bug - which is allowed in
an experimental package, but is unfortunate as in Ubuntu this package went
mainstream; The library rename is an additional factor that makes it impossible
to install any scanner drivers for libsane that are distributed as a .deb
unless the driver distributors recompiles against Ubuntu 17.10+.
- It is to note that depending on the manufacturer for many old scanners there
won't be new versions of the plug-ins that are recompiled like this; Adding a
Provides: libsane to the library might therefore make some plug-ins work,
perhaps.
+ It is to note that depending on the manufacturer for many old scanners

  =
  Visit http://support.epson.net/linux/en/iscan_c.html
  Download the amd64 deb .tar.gz
  Unzip it.
Install the iscan .deb from the core folder.

It won't install before this SRU because it Depends: libsane

  Regression Potential

The fix here was proposed to the Debian maintainer in July but there's been
virtually zero response on it. In the meantime the workaround that was proposed
initially has started to result in automatically uninstalling gtk - which makes
the system basically useless.

It doesn't seem like adding the Provides will make things any worse for
third-party drivers but it has a goodme chance of making things better
  for some.

  Impossibility of workarounds

Just installing an old version of libsane is impossible as it uninstalls
libgtk (which depends on libsane1 which conflicts with libsane) making the
system basically useless.

[Bug 1707352] Re: the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug-ins for sane

2017-10-19 Thread PeterPall
The same happens here: Cannot install any plug-ins as they depend on
libsane the default way: What I have installed is libsane1
1.0.27-1~experimental2ubuntu2 which isn't named "libsane".

Forcing the install still means that neither my Brother nor my Epson
scanner is detected even with the new version of sane-backends.

[Bug 1707352] Re: the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug-ins for sane

2017-10-19 Thread PeterPall
The next question would be if things would now work if libsane1 would contain a
"provides libsane".
Would it be possible for you to install esci-interpreter-gt-f720 ignoring the
missing dependency?

I think the command that does do this would be:

sudo dpkg -i --force-depends esci-interpreter-gt-f720

Thanks a lot in advance! Will try if the new sane-backends would make my
brother scanner work again if the "provides libsane" were present in "libsane1"
as soon as I get home.

[Bug 1707352] Re: the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug-ins for sane

2017-10-17 Thread PeterPall
** Description changed:

  Impact
  ==
The Debian maintainer renamed libsane to libsane1 "to match with the soname"
apparently to fix a Lintian warning.

libsane 1.0.25 in zesty includes libsane.so.1.25
  libsane1 1.0.27 in artful includes libsane.so.1.27

This appears to be no bigger change than any ordinary new version of the
  library.

The library rename makes it impossible to install any scanner drivers
for libsane that are distributed as a .deb unless the driver
  distributors recompiles against Ubuntu 17.10+.

Therefore, adding Provides: libsane seems reasonable here.

  Test Case
  =
  Visit http://support.epson.net/linux/en/iscan_c.html
  Download the amd64 deb .tar.gz
  Unzip it.
Install the iscan .deb from the core folder.

It won't install before this SRU because it Depends: libsane

  Regression Potential

- The fix here was proposed to the Debian maintainer in July but there's been
virtually zero response on it.
+ The fix here was proposed to the Debian maintainer in July but there's been
virtually zero response on it. In the meantime the workaround that was proposed
initially has started to result in automatically uninstalling gtk - which makes
the system basically useless.

It doesn't seem like adding the Provides will make things any worse for
- third-party drivers but it has a good chance of making things better for
- some.
+ third-party drivers but it has a goodme chance of making things better

  Original Bug Report
  ===
I don't know if that can be prevented in the long run. But both brscan (for
my brother scanner) and iscan (for my epson scanners) have been broken by the
change from libsane to libsane1. For iscan I have unpackaged the debian
package, changed the dependency it contains from libsane to libsane1 and
installed the changed package. But even then my epson scanners no more work
leaving me without any scanner => Reporting a bug.

In the above I didn't copy-and-paste the additional info that about 100
packages can be autoremoved after removing libsane1 because after
removing all applications that depend on gtk many libraries are unused.

[Bug 1707352] Re: the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug-ins for sane

2017-10-16 Thread PeterPall
On my system uninstalling libsane1 uninstalls colord - which uninstalls
gnome - which means that this isn't an option.

Vuescan (costly!) and manually extracting and placing the contents of
the .deb packages with the scanner plug-ins seems to currently work. But
- I still wonder if there is a better way...

[Bug 1722598] [NEW] Sync wxmaxima 17.10.0-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2017-10-10 Thread PeterPall
Public bug reported:

Please sync wxmaxima 17.10.0-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Changelog entries since current artful version 16.12.2-3:

wxmaxima (17.10.0-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * debian/control: Instead of dropping the dependency to a specific maxima
I accidentally dropped the dependency to maxima entirely.
(closes: bug#877891)
 -- Gunter Königsmann Fri, 6 Oct 2017 21:52:36 +0100

wxmaxima (17.10.0-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Patch: One of the bugfixes in wxMaxima could cause a race condition that
could
cause maxima's output to be attached to the wrong input cell => Reverted
that
bugfix as attaching the output at the right place is more important than
supporting :lisp commands in the very first cell of the worksheet.
 -- Gunter Königsmann Fri, 6 Oct 2017 9:25:36 +0100

wxmaxima (17.10.0-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release with many new features, bugfixes and performance
improvements.
  * Switched the build system to cmake replacing the dependency to dh-autoreconf
by the dependency to cmake.
  * Bumped the standards version to 3.9.8
  * debian/rules: Cleaned up override_dh_auto_build and override_dh_auto_install
  * debian/control: wxMaxima doesn't depend on a specific version of maxima and
maxima-doc.
  * debian/control: There is a good fallback for a missing fonts-jsmath.
maxima-doc isn't necessary for running wxMaxima and the type of pdf
animations texlive-latex-extra was needed for are no more
supported by any major pdf viewer => Changed these packages to "suggested".
  * debian/control: Dropped the dependency to ImageMagick, perl and texinfo
which are no more used.
  * debian/copyright: wxmathml.lisp has been replaced by wxmathml.lisp.in
  * debian/watch: github is the new project location.
  * Tried to make the watch file work again.
  * Dropped all patches as they were upstreamed.
  * Added a Patch that updates the location of appdata.xml
