it works. It seems to have removed xserver-xorg-video-intel driver

it is still not fixed for me after update to:
lightdm 1.0.1-0ubuntu6

Still there is no 3d acceleration and I can only use unity2d. Is there
any other step that needs to be done to fix this issue?

any way to make sure it really is a lightdm problem?

[Bug 851345] Re: compiz crashes on i915 graphic module with GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing

2011-10-05 Thread Philipp Meier
At least for me it does not sound familiar to bug #864054 as everything from
update to synaptic to external drives is working properly. Just the
3d-acceleartion did stop and therefore unity-2d is running. But the hardware is
fully capable of 3d acceleration and a different kernel did not help at all.
The bug was once fixed by an update of lightdm as you can see above.

[Bug 252483] [NEW] [intrepid]need restart icon of update manager, doesn't reboot

2008-07-27 Thread Philipp Meier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Ubuntu 8.10
After an system update through update-manager it sometimes requires a reboot
and shows this with a little notification icon. So far so good, but I did today
recognize that if I hit it and press then reboot now(or similar, I have
installed the german version). It doesn't reboot but shows me the little logout
menu (switch user, cancel, log off). Which seems obviously wrong!

I have the same experience after upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10 .
It is impossible to shutdown the system through gnome, but it works with gdm.

I did recognize that behavior two times, after upgrading a fresh install
in virtualbox and on a normal computer.

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection

2008-07-22 Thread Philipp Meier
Hi Everyone

I have had the same problems with 8.04 and the opensource driver rtl8187
(same motherboard asus p5k-e). I switched today to 8.10 and
unfortunately the problem still exists. The connection get lost,
sometimes reconnect itself. But over all it is way slower than with
ndiswrapper.

[With ndiswrapper (win98 driver) and networkmanager it worked flawlessly in
8.04 and does now in 8.10.]

I keep an eye on it to see if it always reconnect or just sometimes.

[Bug 122039] Re: [Gutsy] unnecessary packages in ubuntu-desktop dependencies?

2008-05-13 Thread Philipp Meier
I think this bug is still one that needs to be fixed. But the
improvement is definitely remarkable.

I totally agree with the point, that everything is a recommendation
(which is possible) instead of an requirement. I would prefer a ubuntu
system where everything (except the software to manage the system and a
desktop environment -> e.g something like gnome-minimal) is optional,
but set up after a fresh install.

[Bug 201676] Re: gnome-pilot and ubuntu-desktop

2008-05-09 Thread Philipp Meier
Yes I totally agree with you. It should be possible to remove / replace
every application without the need to remove ubuntu-desktop. Or at least
reduce the requirements of applications for ubuntu-desktop to a limit,
like gnome (minimal-desktop + update-manager etc. without
firefox/Evolution/ etc.) .

Would make a big difference for customization.

[Bug 192779] Re: thunderbird-bin crashed with SIGSEGV in __kernel_vsyscall()

2008-03-18 Thread Philipp Meier
I do expect quit a similar behavior since my upgrade to hardy! When I try to
open a message thunderbird crashes (Segementation Fault) without any particular
reason.
I have attached the strace output.

[Bug 203217] [NEW] fast-user-switch heavy cpu usage

2008-03-17 Thread Philipp Meier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet

I recognize strange behavior with fast-user-switch applet. I did remark this
bug the first time, when I did update today (Version 2.22.0-0ubuntu2 of
fast-user-switch-applet on ubuntu 8.04).
The problem is that it generates heavily cpu usage. (see in attachment).

SYSTEM:
1 Humanuser logged in, and 1 User in total on the system
Ubuntu 8.04
Single-Core Notebook

[Bug 134660] Re: Ralink rt2400 / rt2500 / rt2570 / rt61 / rt73 do not work out of the box in Gutsy/Hardy

2008-03-14 Thread Philipp Meier
Yeah so obviously the wicd did not solve the problem. I'm back to
NetworkManager. Does anyone know if the problem is fixed in 2.6.25-rcX
??

[Bug 134660] Re: Ralink rt2400 / rt2500 / rt2570 / rt61 / rt73 do not work out of the box in Gutsy/Hardy

2008-03-13 Thread Philipp Meier
Thanks for your hint!
I'll have a look at the WICD asap, just to test if networkmanager is the
problem. Which would be a bit strange, because of the total system freeze. I
did not even think of networkmanager as a possible threat.
I had a gentoo as well on the same laptop, with my custom kernel (development
version of 2.6.24-rc5) and I did not expire that problem.

[Bug 134660] Re: Ralink rt2400 / rt2500 / rt2570 / rt61 / rt73 do not work out of the box in Gutsy/Hardy

2008-03-13 Thread Philipp Meier
I do experience quite a similar problem, (Gutsy) but not that it doesn't
work. It just gets an total system freeze.

(Ubuntu 8.04, Kernel 2-6.24-12,WLAN Cardbus Card: Cardbus Texas Instruments PCI
1410 rev 02, Ralink RT2561/RT61 rev B 802.11g)
Modules:

The Freeze just happens with the card. It may last for a few minutes (by heavy
load) or an hour, just browsing the web.
Without the card the computer works without freeze (Longest uptime so far 2
Days, but with normal shutdown).
