   I moved to Debian/Squeeze: the reported bug is still present.

[Bug 656345] [NEW] obexget fails with files bigger than 1024 bytes

2010-10-07 Thread Pierre Frenkiel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: obexftp

Ubuntu release:  9.10
package version:

obexput works perfectly with all files
obexget works for files smaller than 1024 bytes, and fails otherwise

There is an other (minor) bug with obexls:
  it should obviously by equivalent to "obexftp -l", but actually,
 one must use "obexls -l" to get the listing !!

[Bug 599786] [NEW] system-config-printer doesn't show the correct job options

2010-06-29 Thread Pierre Frenkiel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-config-printer

package : system-config-printer-gnome
Ubuntu release: 9.10
If I put number-up=4 in my ~/.cups/lpoptions OR in /etc/cups/lpoptions,
the command lpoptions shows "number-up=4", but system-config-printer
still shows "1 page per side"
In both cases, I actually get a 4-up printout

if I remove "number-up=4" from these 2 files, and set number-up=4 from
system-config-printer, this option is not put in lpoptions,
but in /etc/cups/printer.conf, with the line:
 Option number-up 4
I then also get a 4-up printout
So, the bug is in the "Job options" menu of system-config-printer, whose output
doesn't correspond to the actual settings.

[Bug 490287] Re: programs in "Microsoft Office 2007" don't start

2009-11-30 Thread Pierre Frenkiel
I forgot to add that the script I gave worked as a separate script
directly run by the user.
To make the original scripts in
$HOME/.PlayOnLinux/configurations/installed
to work with
playonlinux --run "Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007" $PWD/file.ppt
one needs to give the absolute path in the call,
because playonlinux does a "cd ..." command before calling them,
So, one must add the following code:

D=`dirname $1`
F=`basename $1`
cd $D
wine "${EXE}/POWERPNT.EXE" $F

[Bug 490287] [NEW] programs in "Microsoft Office 2007" don't start

2009-11-30 Thread Pierre Frenkiel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: playonlinux

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.10
Release:9.10

apt-cache policy playonlinux
playonlinux:
  Installed: 3.6-1
  Candidate: 3.6-1
  Version table:
 *** 3.6-1 0
500 http://ftp.crihan.fr karmic/multiverse Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I expect, when I type: playonlinux --run "Microsoft Office Word 2007"
to get a word window
Instead, I get the error message:
wine: cannot find '/WINWORD.EXE'
Idem for all the programs of the suite.

After looking at the different scripts, I found that all scripts in
directory

   $HOME/.PlayOnLinux/configurations/installed

are completely wrong:
How can somebody make 3 so big errors in a 8-line script, errors that
prevent the program to start:

cd "$HOME/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Office2007/drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft
Office/Office12"
docname=${1##*/}
docpath=${1%/*}
cd "$docpath"
wine "/POWERPNT.EXE" "$docname"

1/ the / in the wine command explains the error message
2/ After removing the /, when giving an argument in the call, the 2nd
  "cd" command cancels the 1st one, which gives the error:

   wine: could not load L"C:\\windows\\system32\\POWERPNT.EXE": Module
not found

3/ even after correcting these 2 errors, i.e replacing the last 4 lines
by just:

   wine "POWERPNT.EXE" $1

   it works only if the given file is in the same directory as the .EXE
   to make it to work, the correct script is:

#!/bin/bash
PATH="$HOME/.PlayOnLinux/WineVersions/1.1.33/usr/bin/:$PATH"
export WINEPREFIX="$HOME/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Office2007"
export WINEDEBUG="-all"
EXE="$HOME/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Office2007/drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft
Office/Office12"
wine "${EXE}/POWERPNT.EXE" $1

[Bug 152858] Re: -4 flag gives an Apple QuickTime file

2009-01-09 Thread Pierre Frenkiel
The symptom is exactly the same in 8.10
the openRTSP doc says:
 Use the "-q" option to output the received data to 'stdout' in the form
 of an Apple QuickTime '.mov'-format file.
 Similarly, the "-4" option produces a '.mp4'-format (i.e., MPEG-4) file.
but
==> openRTSP -4 -p 3 -w 800 -h 600 -f 25\
rtsp://mafreebox.freebox.fr/fbxtv_pub/stream?namespace=1&service=204 >
test.mp4
gives:
==>file test.mp4
   test.mp4: Apple QuickTime movie (unoptimized)

this symptom is not reproducible in 8.10.
Anyway, the package libflash-mozplugin no more exists,

[Bug 305515] [NEW] gnubiff icon no more uses the geometry settings

2008-12-05 Thread Pierre Frenkiel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnubiff

since about 2 weeks, the gnubiff icon appears at random positions, instead of
using the
settings defined in the config file. All the other settings are correctly taken
into account,
although I didn't notice any version change.
My display manager is fvwm, but it doesn't seem to be involved, as everything
else works
normally.

[Bug 263057] [NEW] f key is dead for all guests

2008-08-30 Thread Pierre Frenkiel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

package: virtualbox-ose: 1.5.6-dfsg-6ubuntu1
ubuntu release: 8.04.1

When I try to install any guest, (Windows XP as well as ubuntu), the "F"
key is dead. All other keys work correctly!

This happened for me on 2 hosts, both running ubuntu 8.04.1:
 - a Compaq Evo 800v laptop
 - a desktop

I tried a workaround mentioned in an other bug report: disabling the
"auto capture keyboard", but this did not fix my problem.

2008-06-04 Thread Pierre Frenkiel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gphotofs

The command
gphotofs mount_point
gives "permission denied", although I am actually in the plugdev group.
I got the same result after "newgrp plugdev",
It works with sudo, but even then, the access to the mount point is denied.
According the man, belonging to the the pludev group should permit the user
to issue the command directly.

[Bug 21214] Re: package selection section has no packages to select

2008-04-12 Thread Pierre Frenkiel
hi colin,
If it's not so straightforward, I understand your reasons.
But, I already knew how to use kickstart with redhat, and what I need now is
the names
of the Ubuntu groups, if any, to avoid entering hundreds of package names in
ks.cfg.

Anyway, you should at least modify the help on package selection, featuring
a window showing all groups with their checkbox. I suspect that
you took this from a redhat box! I take this opportunity to mention an other
(minor) bug: there a shift between the selected item and the displayed help:
  to get the help on 'package selection', you must select 'display
configuration"

[Bug 145805] Re: aumix throws error aumix: SOUND_MIXER_READ_DEVMASK

2007-12-04 Thread Pierre Frenkiel

 have exactly the same problem. I can't beleive what I read

"The bug is not being closed as work will continue on fixing it for
the next release, Hardy Heron (8.04)."

So, no hope to get a fix before 6 months, for a program which worked perfectly
before.!!
That's incredible, for a program which is the only one which can be used in
scripts.
Do that guys ever read the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HelpingWithBugs page:

Another way of distinguishing a bug is if it's a regression. That means
   that something used to work, and now doesn't any more. We try fairly hard
   to get these identified early, because regressions are bad news.

That king of bug processing will surely convince newcomers to go back to
Windows

[Bug 172826] Re: Errors were encountered while upgrading to Gutsy

2007-12-01 Thread Pierre Frenkiel
I first tried to use the reinstall functions of synaptic, without success.
I then did a "total remove", and then "install", and this time time I got no
errors.
Anyway,it would be nice, after a:
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
to have a little more details about the error.

[Bug 172614] update-manager freezes while upgrading from Feisty to Gutsy

2007-11-28 Thread Pierre Frenkiel
Public bug reported:

I started update-manager to upgrade from Feisty to Gutsy
The download phase lasted about 2 hours (with a 100Mbps link!, but actual rates
from 500 to 20 kbps)
but ended without error.
Then the "Installing the upgrades" phase started, and seemed to behave
normally, apart to
messages asking for a bug report
  Could not install
'/var/cache/apt/archives/cupsys_1.3.2-1ubuntu7.1_i386.deb
  Could not install 'cupsys'
After about 2 hours (30 % according the meter bar) it started:
 "Preparing to configure bluez-gnome", and froze with the following lines
in
the terminal window:
   Unpacking replacement libbluetooth2 ...
   Selecting previously deselected package bluez-cups.
   Unpacking bluez-cups (from .../bluez-cups_3.19-0ubuntu3_i386.deb) ...
   Selecting previously deselected package bluez-gnome.
   Unpacking bluez-gnome (from .../bluez-gnome_0.14-0ubuntu2_i386.deb) ...
   Preparing to replace bluez-utils 3.9-0ubuntu4 (using
.../bluez-utils_3.19-0ubuntu3_i386.deb) ...
   * Stopping Bluetooth services

I have no idea what to do now.
It would be kind to reply as soon as possible, as I need this machine to work,
and would be sad to be obliged to revert to Fedora

steps:
I don't know wether it is a bug in the flash plugin or in the web page, as this
URL
is the only where I had this problem. Anyway, I suppose that even a bug
in a web site should not crash firefox?
to reproduce the bug:

[Bug 125499] Re: mozilla-mplayer installs plugin for mozilla, but not firefox

2007-09-22 Thread Pierre Frenkiel
I also confirm that on feisty.
It seems that firefox may be half-guilty, as I found this in /usr/bin/firefox:

MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins${MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH+":$MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH"}

/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox is actually a link to /usr/lib/firefox.

Another workaround is then to do, at session start:
export MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins

By the way, somebody mentionned a version 2.45, but the ubuntu repo
still gives 2.40

[Bug 49906] Re: When import photos change the date

2007-09-17 Thread Pierre Frenkiel
I arrived on this bug report via google, having the same problem with gphoto2
and my camera Canon 20d.
I found a woraround by applying the following script on all files after their
download with gphoto2:

#!/bin/bash
F=$1
TT=`exif $F | grep 'Date and Time   '|cut -d \| -f 2 | sed "s/:/ /g"`
[[ -z $TT ]] && exit 1
set $TT
print ..$TT..
touch -t $1$2$3$4$5.$6  $F

(exif may be installed with "aptitude install exif)
Nervertheless, I can't agree with the assertion that "the time stamp of the
jpeg file is irrelevant"
It's usfull for example with "ls -t". And this feature is actually a bug
introduced at least in the Ubuntu version,
as it was not present the Fedora Core 5 version I used before.

[Bug 112331] Re: impossible to print via cups

2007-09-10 Thread Pierre Frenkiel
the error comes from the lp implementation: some guy there did'nt know that
usually, lp and lpr MUST behave as filters, i.e. accept stdin when no file
argument is given, This not tha case with this Lp, which needs a "-" as
file argument (cf "man lp"). One obviuos solution would be
to let the user choose the print command used by xfig. Meanwhile,
Ill be obliged to replace lp by a link to lpr, or to do an export
