[Bug 931116] [NEW] The dictionary is lacking the most common words

2012-02-12 Thread PrebenR
Public bug reported:

The dictionary (myspell-nb) is lacking a lot of the common words like:

deg (you)
og (and)
også (also)

etc...

There must be something wrong with the compilation of the dictionary as
I have not experienced this before.

[Bug 662365] Re: "eeepc_wmi: Unknown key 88 pressed" when pressing Fn+F2 on Asus EEE1005HA

2010-11-28 Thread PrebenR
Hi

I tested the kernel linked above. It removed the complaints about
unknown key, but wireless is not turned on. The kernel modules are not
loaded etc... Does this mean there is another problem, or is it still
related to this error?

2010-11-28 Thread PrebenR
After adding acpi_osi=Linux in grub, the default ubuntu kernel again
works and wireless is working. If I do the same with the patched kernel
above, it doesn't work. So apart from no error messages the patched
kernel is a regression for me.

[Bug 669371] [NEW] Getting MAC corruption every first time I use ssh in some way

2010-11-01 Thread PrebenR
Public bug reported:

When I boot my Asus Eee 1000H (it also happens with a 901) and I want to
transfer data via ssh, either by rsync, rdiff-backup, sshfs or scp, I
get a MAC corruption error the first time. After this the network is
working fine. It has been like this as long as I have had the machine. I
have tested extensively and it is not limited problem to my internal
network. It also happens elsewhere when trying to copy files from one
computer to the other. File size is not important.

I think it must be some error in the atl1e driver. It happens as I said
after a boot the first time I try.

Before I haven't bothered with it as it was just to restart the process.
But I'm now doing more regular backups and the bug is very annoying as
it makes automating the process more difficult and unreliable.

I'm not sure how you want that I debug the problem, so please tell me
what to do and I'll provide the data.

[Bug 662365] Re: "eeepc_wmi: Unknown key 88 pressed" when pressing Fn+F2 on Asus EEE1005HA

2011-01-05 Thread PrebenR
I don't understand. The wireless has worked fine before. Both led goes
on and off and so does the device. Why can't you make this work in the
new kernels/system? Cannot have a system where one have to disable
wireless connection before one can turn off the wireless device. This
doesn't make sense.

So I suggest looking at how this has been done in the past.

Now I have the problem that I have to run the kernel with
acpi_osi="Linux". This in turns leads to a problem that if I want to increase
the volume using the multimedia keys, then it is always done twice. And the
system lags somewhat when one increase/decrease the sound. If I turn off
acpi_osi="Linux" this doesn't happen, but then wireless is not working.

Just curious: So you mean if I upgraded my firmware then BIOS would
change because of Window 7 support? I think I already did upgrade it to

Anyway please let me know if you need me to test anything. Currently I'm

[Bug 644175] [NEW] wicd will not work when network-manager is purged

2010-09-21 Thread PrebenR
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wicd

I prefer wicd over network-manager mainly because I use dwm and not
gnome etc... Network-manager seem to only have an applet program to
control the network connections, which don't work so well in dwm.

I did a complete reinstall of Lucid (not upgrade), I installed wicd,
wicd-daemon etc... and removed all network-manager and also purged the
network-manager packages. After doing this I no longer seemed to have a
wireless device in the computer. My computer is an Asus Eee 1000H. I
could not find the device with ifconfig and no wireless networks where
found (obviously). I then installed network-manager again and it found
the device and networks. I then just removed network-manager but didn't
purge it. And now wicd can find the wireless device.

My point is that wicd should be self-sufficient. It should not relay on
that you have uninstalled network-manager but not purged it...

ProblemType: Bug

2010-07-11 Thread PrebenR
Tested with kernel 2.6.34-020634 (from the mainline ubuntu kernel page)
and it has same problems:

No wireless device
No Multimedia keys

The kernel that works is 2.6.31-22. Both 2.6.32 and 2.6.33 are not
working either.

Seems to me it is some hal/udev problem, but I don't know.

[Bug 559912] [NEW] Easytag presents it self as a file manager

2010-04-10 Thread PrebenR
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: easytag

Hi

I have a problem with easytag. After I installed it, firefox seems to
think it is a proper file manager and uses it when choosing "Open
Containing Folder". If I uninstall (purge) easytag, then thunar is used
by firefox. If I install easytag again, then firefox uses easytag. I
haven't found out why this happens eaxctly (I suspect it is in the
pacakge install process), but you could you please review the mime setup
for easytags. IMHO it is not a file manager, although the file:

/usr/share/applications/easytag.desktop

[Bug 576874] [NEW] Thunar doesn't show the usb HDDs and sticks unless running thunar as sudo

2010-05-07 Thread PrebenR
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunar

In Xubuntu 10.04 I cannot see my external harddisks nor usb stick
attached to the computer in Thunar. If I run Thunar with sudo I see
them, but not as user. This worked fine before upgrading. I have the

[Bug 603741] [NEW] No wireless device in Lucid

2010-07-09 Thread PrebenR
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

After upgrading from Karmic to Lucid, not only did my multimedia keys
stop working (except brightness), but I no longer seem to have a
wireless device in my computer,

If I run ifconfig I get only lo an eth0 listed and not ra0. If I try
ifconfig ra0 up it says no such device. I have tried a 2.6.33 kernel too
as somebody suggested on the forum, but it doesn't work. It is extremely
annoying as i'm dependant on wireless network.

As I have asked in previous bug reports, please advice what debugging
information you want and I'll provide it.

My computer is an Asus Eee 1000HE

I really wish that you could do a better job at QA before introducing
new systems and stop breaking the systems every 6 month! It would be
nice if every other release was more of a bug fixing release, than that
you have to introduce something new that doesn't work.

[Bug 603741] Re: [Lucid]Ralink (rt2860) wireless device not recognized after upgrade from Karmic.

2010-07-11 Thread PrebenR
Sorry for all the reports. It seemed the apport had crashed. It never
ended, so I ran it some times.

Anyhow. If I use the 2.6.31 kernel then both wifi and multimedia keys
work again (xev seems them, doesn't do it in 2.6.32 or .33)! Is this
due to removing hal in Lucid or is it something else in the kernel?

Should I also run the apport with the 2.6.31 kernel?

[Bug 365198] [NEW] cannot connect to network with iwconfig

2009-04-22 Thread PrebenR
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wireless-tools

Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04
Installed: 29-1.1ubuntu2

I tried to connect to an open network. The card is an ralink rt2860 in an Asus
Eee 1000H. I run:
iwlist ra0 scan
sudo iwconfig ra0 essid network-name
sudo iwconfig ra0

the essid is not set. I have tried key open, mode ad-hoc or managed, but
it does not help.

When I run sudo dhclient it doens't find an IP and gives up.

Here is a link to another with the same problem:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7118036

If I run nm-applet, I can connect with that to the net. So it seems to
be a problem with iwconfig? I'm not running xfce4 nor gnome, but dwm so
that is why I want iwconfig to work.

please advice what debugging info that are needed.

[Bug 310385] Re: vlc does not play commercial dvd after upgrade from Hardy Heron to Intrepid Ibex. It plays about 10 minutes and then crashes. Help!!!

2009-04-15 Thread PrebenR
I also have problems with some of my DVDs. Either VLC stops on the
Warning and not continuing, or when pressing Play in the Root Menu of
some DVDs (that worked before) it "crashes" and some DVDs it won't play
without crashing. When I say crashing VLC doesn't segfault, but the
window with the movie closes.

Btw why do one need to have two vlc windows when playing a movie? Before
the movie could be included in the VLC window. Annoying to use cvlc as
it doesn't have a mouse menu.

[Bug 315809] Re: [Jaunty] Sound card outputs start muted after recent updates to use pulseaudio

2009-08-22 Thread PrebenR
I had the same problem with 5 different computers (netbooks to
stationary) in Jaunty. With pulseaudio the sound was either muted or PCM
was set to 0. The only solution that worked was to uninstall pulseaudio
completely. That worked, and I didn't see any programs having problems
without the pulseaudio. I don't know the point of pulseaudio, but as it
keeps coming back like a bad nightmare in Ubuntu Karmic (which I'm
testing on one of the computers currently), it would be nice if one
could manage to fix the pulseaudio so that it works out of the box.
