[Bug 411102] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.04 Ekiga cannot register sip

2009-08-09 Thread Psychoscorpic
Public bug reported:

I have the same problem as:
Expired Question #72501, asked on 2009-05-28 by penqem

I set Ekiga up with the SIP I created some time back, and it keeps responding
that it cannot register my username at ekiga.net.
Thinking I'd duffed my settings, I created a new SIP at Ekiga.net.
Using the response e-mail, I deleted the old account, and set up a new one with
the new details.
Same result.

I am accessing the Net via a switch for my residence building, then via
a Smoothwall server. Is this the issue?

Re: [Bug 300252] Re: No USB connections mount in 8.10

2009-03-04 Thread Psychoscorpic
My problem was a cooked port.
Replaced motherboard under warranty and the problem was fixed.

(Cheap laptop: fried the idiot USB ports again a month later - only
using mouse this time)

 Hello,

recognize it as a mobile broadand device, but it does not mount it to
show the files that are on the phone. So I'm affraid it's not an coocked
usb port. Somehow the memory stick is not mounted.

I tried the above and nothing worked for me either. I'll keep trying and
if I find a solution I will post it here.

 Keep up the good work

 Greetings and high regards

[Bug 280236] Re: update-manager --dist-upgrade gets stuck at the end

2009-01-30 Thread Psychoscorpic
I'm getting the same thing - hanging interminably at processing triggers for
man-db while updating in 8.10
(this is the 3rd 8.10 update I've done on this machine - the others went fine)

Happens whether I update via terminal or Synaptic.
Have to force a close of the terminal or Synaptic. (Hard boot required on one
occasion)

Had to use sudo dpkg --configure -a a few times, reloading Synaptic in
between (or via terminal) and running the update process.
Restarted/Rebooted between each cycle.
Update manager notification was locked on each occasion, requiring choosing to
ignore reboot anyway.

Each time it did a few more packages, but locked up on hitting processing
triggers for man-db
After 5 cycles it finally finished the job.

[Bug 300252] Re: No USB connections mount in 8.10

2008-12-03 Thread Psychoscorpic
Still no joy on this.

Tried:
sudo rmmod ehci_hcd

On boot, modified kernel parameters by adding:
irqpoll
noapic
pci=irqroute
pci=noacpi
acpi=off

Nothing of benefit happened with any (or all) of these options.

Did find in the /media folder some empty folders: usb0 usb1 . . . usb7
Deleted all of them. And guess what?! . . . nothing.

Updated the install.
Nothing.

Getting seriously miffed here. I've become the de-facto Ubuntu support
guy to the community of about 8 new converts at work, but am getting a
little embarrassed by not having any USB functionality on my own
machine!! (Not to mention having lost modem support with the upgrade
from 8.04 - no driver available for 8.10 two months after release.)

[Bug 300252] Re: No USB connections mount in 8.10

2008-12-03 Thread Psychoscorpic
Hi Conner

Thanks for the attention to this.

Tried the LiveCD and . . . nothing.
But I did see that the mouse is being powered - tracker LED pulses briefly on
startup.
USB mouse any other USB device simply invisible to the OS, though.
Does this indicate that the ports are cooked? Or could it still be an Ubuntu
issue?

I am getting to the point of wanting to burn all my personal stuff to DVD and
reinstall the machine completely.
But if it no longer sees USB even from a Live disc, will this make any
difference?

dmesg to follow (have to burn to CD-RW!! My only available means of file
transfer)

2008-11-19 Thread Psychoscorpic
Thanks very much Anthony - I'll open a new report then.
Geoff

2008/11/20 Anthony Noto [EMAIL PROTECTED]

From the logs it appears to be a problem with IRQ mapping. For future
reference, you are only able to attach one file per comment, so just
create new comments. Additionally, the following link may be helpful:
 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingIRQProblems Please attach
 any missing files (/proc/interrupts).

Psychoscorpic, it does not appear that you have the same problem, please
open another bug report and attach the files you have provided here.

Status in linux source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
 Benq Joybook 7000.
USB ports working fine in Ubuntu 7.10, then in 8.04.
After upgrade to 8.10 USB ports will not respond to any device I attach -
 mouse, thumb drive, ext HDD.
If booted with USB mouse connected it will sometimes respond to the USB
mouse, but in a very jerky manner. Once, the USB mouse worked properly when
connected before boot, but I have not been able to repeat this fluke.
The built-in touch pad works fine.
Possibly related: the video driver fails to recognise my RADEON X600
chipset. I know this is a separate problem, but though it worth mentioning
 just in case.
Please excuse the scarcity of technical information, I'm just an end user,
 not a software engineer.

 Cheers,
 Phil
