[Bug 522998] Re: XHCI (USB 3.0) kernel Module Prevents Suspend

2010-12-19 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 on a Sager laptop and also have this problem.
Adding the script to /etc/pm/sleep.d/ to unload/reload the xhci_hcd module
seems to solve the problem for me.
After reading the comments, I'm not sure if it's better to add xhci_hcd to
SUSPEND_MODULES.

[Bug 289076] [NEW] [Wishlist] Add a menu entry for jvisualvm

2008-10-25 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
Public bug reported:

Recently Sun has added a new tool to the JDK named VisualVM. This tool
integrates a profiler and via plugins could do what JConsole does today.

This is a visual tool and no Menu Entry is installed for it. I suggest
to add a Menu Entry on Applications - System Tools named Sun Java 6
VisualVM (Similar to the current Sun Java 6 JConsole).

Ideally VisualVM should be an independent package named sun-
java6-visualvm (like sun-java6-javadb) as it's a big package
(/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.10/lib/visualvm is 21.3 MB)

[Bug 260751] [NEW] new upstream version (4.0.8)

2008-08-23 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libjava-gnome-java

What's new for library users:

- Signal naming change
Since this version, all signals have new names, so new code should use this new
names, as no new signal will be created with the old naming conventions.
(Existing old names are preserved for compatibility)
- More API coverage and more improvements
- Updated and improved documentation

Please update this package so Intrepid Ibex could have this new version.

[Bug 148761] hgsvn should depend on subversion and mercurial

2007-10-03 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
Public bug reported:

I use mercurial regularly but not svn, downloaded this tool to import a
svn repo and got errors everywhere. Then I realized subversion wasn't
installed. Installed subversion manually and everything worked. After
checking dependencies I saw that mercurial is not a dependency either
and the scripts use the hg command, so both subversion and mercurial
should be added as dependencies of hgsvn.

[Bug 140574] (Gutsy) gnome-mouse-properties does not switch touchpad tap-buttons

2007-09-17 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

When I check 'Left-handed mouse' on 'Mouse Orientation' the external
mouse and the synaptics touchpad buttons are correctly switched, but the
synaptics touchpad tap-buttons (simulated button clicks when you tap,
double-tap or triple-tap on the touchpad) keeps the default order (right
handed) which makes the tapping wrong. (single tapping keeps generating
the equivalent of the left click, but due to buttons being inverted, a
right click effect is what you get).

gsypantics also does not helps as this application does not have this
capability.

There are two ways to correct the tap-buttons:

1. Editing xorg.conf and adding inside the synaptics input driver
configuration the following options:

Option TapButton13
Option TapButton31

2. Editing xorg.conf and adding inside the synaptics input driver
configuration the following option:

Option SHMConfig true

and using the synclient command to interactivelly update the tapbuttons,
with the following command:

  $ synclient TapButton1=3 TapButton3=1

The expected way is that this command should be executed whenever 'Left
handed mouse' is checked and the inverse executed when unchecked.

[Bug 102037] Re: [New Package Freeze Upstream] maven2-2.0.7

As soon as I saw the news about maven2 being uploaded to debian I
downloaded the dsc file (couldn't find the deb) and successfully made
the deb using packages from ubuntu or packages from debian when no

[Bug 45347] A list of requirements is needed

2007-07-12 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
OK, I filled this bug (and the patch), and also filled other bugs
related to Java support. For example:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/java-common/+bug/45348 -
update-java-alternatives does not change the JAVA_HOME

In both cases I've proposed a solution to fix the problem. In this
particular case Jerome suggested he would fix it (on comment 4) so I
forgot it and expected it to be solved some day. But now it seems that
the situation has some how changed.

I'm willing to help on this but I need to know what kind of solution is
expected. Trying to sum up all requirements, I get the following:

1. Only one way to configure default Java globally.
2. Support for overriding the default Java for a user.
3. Support for overriding the Java version used for an application globally.
4. Support for overriding the Java version used for an application for a user.
5. Mechanism on (1) should preset JAVA_HOME globally.
6. Mechanism on (2) should preset JAVA_HOME for a user.

I think a combination of /etc/jvm and update-java-alternatives (both schemes
working together) is the best way to fix this.
I don't like the idea of some Java programs depending on the JAVA_HOME
environment variable, but the web is filled with Java applications that the
only think they require to work out of the box is a definition of this
variable. So having it predefined and working with the global (or per user) way
to configure Java is IMHO the best way to help those Java users.

Do you have other requirements? Do yo want something on this
requirements changed?

Jerome: how do you want this working to get a chance to be included?

[Bug 53923] Re: tifm: Texas Instruments Card reader not working

my SD reader works again.

Software:
Ubuntu 7.04 fully updated + sugested linux-image
Hardware:
Laptop Acer Ferrari 4000

06:09.3 Mass storage controller: Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Integrated
FlashMedia Controller
$ lspci -n

When the SD card is inserted, it is recognized and can be read/written.
BUG: Suspending the laptop with the SD inserted doesn't work: The laptop never
completes the suspend and I have to turn it off using the power button.
Suspending the laptop without the SD inserted works OK, inserting the SD card
while in suspended state resumes OK and the card is detected but not mounted.
Double clicking on the card icon (In Nautilus computer://) mounts the card as
expected.

[Bug 110821] derby/javadb is duplicated in multiverse: sunwderby (glassfish) and sun-java6-javadb (Sun Java 6)

2007-04-28 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sunwderby

NOTE: The related packages are: sunwderby, sun-java6-javadb, glassfish,
but only one can be specified

Sun Microsystems is distributing Derby 10.x as Java DB in both Java SE 6
and Glassfish 1.

Both are available in Multiverse and in their way to Main (according to
recent news). As a result there are two versions of derby in multiverse.

Facts:
- Glassfish requires Java SE
- Last Java SE version released by Sun is 6 (currently the recommended version
from Sun is Java SE 6 u1 according to www.java.com)
- Sun Java SE 6 has its own version of Java DB which is provided by Sun

Why not have only one derby package and make both products depend on the
same derby/javadb? As Glassfish will run on top of Java SE and the
JavaDB version included in Java SE will obviously work OK on this
version of Java, I think that the right solution should be:

- make glassfish depend on sun-java6-jre and sun-java6-javadb instead of
sun-java5-jre and sunwderby
- make glassfish package create a symbolic link from /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/db
to /usr/share/sunappserver/javadb
- get rid of sunwderby

[Bug 84501] Re: Java6 Web Start just opens the Java control panel instead of running the application

2007-04-03 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
The problem here is the way the javaws is invoked.

Since Java SE 6, if I want to run just the Java Web Start in standalone
mode, which is useful if I want to list/delete/run previously downloaded
applications, I have to run javaws -viewer as the .desktop file
correctly says, but if I need to run an application having the JNLP url
or document, I have to execure javaws URL. If I run the javaws process
without arguments, a simple help is written to the console.

I think that a .desktop is needed to run Java Web Start from the menu,
as it works now (javaws -viewer), but when registering the mime type
only, we need the Exec field be javaws only. Maybe two .desktops files
are needed? (first for the menu entry, second for the mime type
registration)

[Bug 102708] [whichlist] swt jars should be installed in /usr/share/java instead of inside eclipse plugins

2007-04-03 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libswt3.2-gtk-java

Currently when libswt3.2-java is installed, the swt3.2-gtk.jar is
installed in
/usr/lib/eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.swt.gtk.linux.x86_3.2.1.v3235.jar
(could change if the swt version changes) and some links pointing to
this jar are created in /usr/lib/java.

I see 2 things wrong:

1. The other java jars are all installed in /usr/share/java
2. /usr/lib/eclipse directory will be created even if the user don't want to
install eclipse.

SWT is general enough so other java projects are using it, for example
azureus, which is also in universe repo. If a user installs azureus,
libswt is installed and /usr/lib/eclipse is created. Also if a java
programmer installs libswt3.2-java and want to develop an application
using this library, s/he will look for the swt jar in the expected
location, which is in /usr/share/java.

I think that the right is to do with swt the same as other dependencies
of the eclipse ide (like lucene, for example). When libswt3.2-gtk is
installed, swt3.2-gtk.jar (and other links to it) should be installed in
/usr/share/java, and when eclipse-rcp is installed (the package which
depends on swt which is part of the eclipse ide) it should create a link
in /usr/lib/eclipse/plugins.

[Bug 102717] [whichlist] split osgi jars in its own package

2007-04-03 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eclipse-rcp

The OSGi implementation of eclipse is now in it's own project
(http://www.eclipse.org/equinox/). The plugins named org.eclipse.osgi*
can be used independent of the eclipse platform the same way swt is now
been used in other java projects. I hope osgi jars could be on it's own
package so projects requiring eclipse osgi support could only depend on
eclipse-equinox (a possible name) instead of eclipse-rcp. Hopefully
those jars should be added to /usr/share/java when eclipse-equinox is
installed, and when eclipse-rcp is installed it would add symlinks of
those jars to /usr/lib/eclipse/plugins with the expected names.

[Bug 83384] RFE: JConsole should have a menu entry

2007-02-05 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sun-java6-jdk

When the Sun Java SE 6 JDK is installed, jconsole (Java Monitoring
Management Console) is installed, but no Menu Entry is created.

jconsole is a GUI application which is part of the JDK (not JRE) since
Java 1.5. This GUI application is used to connect to running Java
applications (local or remote) to monitor and manage the application.
(By default the user can monitor Memory, CPU and Thread Usage, with more
information depending on the application).

Two proposals:
1. Under Applications/System Tools (That's the place I suppose it should be)
2. Under System/Administration (That's the place System Monitor is located, the
most similar application)

[Bug 45348] Re: update-java-alternatives does not change the JAVA_HOME

2006-12-18 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
And why not mount the jvm scheme over the update-alternatives scheme?

In my case, I installed maven. Maven searches for /etc/mavenrc and
~/.mavenrc

If I create one of those files, Maven works OK. But as I see it, local
configurations are needed if I don't want to use my default
configuration, so if I want to use Java SE 6 globally, but J2SE 5 for
maven, editing /etc/mavenrc is the way to go. But if I want to use Maven
with my default Java installation, I should be able to configure Java in
one place, and my specific application (maven in this case) should use
my global Java configuration.

Currently we have update-java-alternatives as a way to configure the
java related commands in only one script, but if I need to configure a
java compatible environment I have to edit /etc/jvm or ~/.jvm

Maybe if update-java-alternatives could generate (provably based on
priority and/or manual mode selection) a base for jvm/java-common to
check if no override is created (~/.jvm and /etc/jvm) both worlds could
benefit from each other. This could be update-java-alternatives
generating a /etc/jvm.default (not much feasible) or java-common
returning a default folder maintained by update-java-alternatives if
~/.jvm nor /etc/jvm is found.

If I want to customize my default jvm I create a ~/.jvm, but if I happy
with the default instalation, everything should work out of the box.

[Bug 45348] Re: update-java-alternatives does not change the JAVA_HOME

2006-12-13 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
What I was trying to solve is that some (almost all) not apt-gettable
Java applications require a definition of JAVA_HOME.

 - Some not available as DEBs (like Maven (maven.apache.org)).
 - Some available but a new version is required (Ant, Eclipse).

Obviously I can edit the launch scripts to add
export JAVA_HOME=$(bash /usr/share/java-common/jvm-find.sh).

But my idea is to simplify this step. java-gcj-compat is in fact an
attempt to create a compatible Java environment. DEB based applications
are adapted if needed so no special Java compatible environment is
really required, but having java-gcj-compat simplifies the modifications
needed in packages that expect the same folder structure as Sun JDK
structure. So almost no modification is required. The same happens to
JAVA_HOME environment variable and Java compatible folder structure. If
java-common package added a symliked folder, this simplification process
could be simpler for a lot of java packages. Using update-java-
alternatives as the only way of updating java configuration is, IMHO,
the way to go.

The day we have OpenJDK in apt repos in think this will be obsolete, but
who knows what will happen then... Maybe GCJ will live for another 20
years

[Bug 6568] java-gnome can't be fully installed in Edgy

2006-10-05 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
At this moment java-gnome packages can't be fully installed in Edgy.
Also some available packages have released new versions.

This libraries:
libglib-java, libcairo-java, libgtk-java, libgconf-java are installable, and
are up to date.

libgnome-java can't be installed, has an old version.
  - libgnome-java depends on libgnome-jni
- libgnome-jni can't be installed because it depends on libgcj7 (which is
wrong)
  - libgcj7 does not exist. Was renamed to libgcj7-0
  - Last released version is 2.12.5, current available version in repos is
2.12.3

libglade-java can't be installed, has an old version.
  - libglade-java depends on libgnome-java, which can't be installed.
  - Last released version is 2.12.6, current available version in repos is
2.12.4

libvte-java is not available in repos.
  - Last released version is 0.12.1

libgtkmozembed-java is not available in repos.
  - Last released version is 1.7.0

libdbus-java (not part of Java Gnome) is not available in repos.
  - Last released version is 1.9.
  - Only compatible with Java 5, an old version compatible with Java 1.4

JNI packages should not depend on any component of GCJ, but on java-
virtual-machine (and maybe Java2-runtime) which is provided by GNU GIJ,
Blackdown J2RE 1.4 and Sun Java 5. With any of this packages, the JNI
packages will work.

Java packages should also depend on java-virtual-machine and java-
runtime.

[Bug 63792] Why not create java-gcj-compat(-dev/-plugin)-4.1 and -4.2?

2006-10-03 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
The whole idea of java-gcj-compat[-dev/-plugin] is to recreate the
traditional jre/jdk folder structure.

In this case there is the still official GCJ-4.1 version, and the
new/unreleased GCJ-4.2 version but with a lot of new stuff (that's why
there is GCJ-4.2 available in the repos).

Why not define two java-gcj-compat packages, similar to the two GCJ
packages?

We could have the packages:
- java-gcj-compat[-dev/-plugin]-4.1

Which should depend on:
- GCJ 4.1
- GIJ 4.1
- libgcj7
- gcjwebplugin-4.1

and the packages:
- java-gcj-compat[-dev/-plugin]-4.2

Which should depend on:
- GCJ 4.2
- GIJ 4.2
- libgcj8
- gcjwebplugin-4.2

Then, the packages java-gcj-compat[-dev/plugin] should depend on java-
gcj-compat[-dev/plugin]-4.1. This way users wanting to test applications
on GCJ-4.2 can use the expected java compatibility layer.

[Bug 34688] Solved in Mustang (Re: Java incompatibilities with GTK theme -- Dapper Flight 5)

2006-08-02 Thread R. A. Rivas Diaz
This problem is solved in upcomming Mustang release. I have downloaded
and tested Java 1.6.0-beta2 and the problem is already solved in this
version. Java 6 comes with a better implementation of GTK Look and Feel,
and in the beta2 release the reported error is not seen anymore.

The support for GTK LAF in Java 5 is not very good, and only some
predefined themes are supported. As Human not ClearLooks are officially
supported, this probably won't be solved.

Java 6 comes with a much improved GTK LAF, which uses native GTK
functions to get info related to the GTK theme. Because of this, the GTK
LAF implementation will support all GTK themes. (Still GTK LAF has some
errors, but the implementation is much better)

As the changes are too big, I doubt Sun will backport the new GTK LAF to
current Java 5, but in Java 6 we won't see this error anymore.

I bote also to close this as won't be fixed, if possible with a comment
saying fixed in java 6, not supported in java 5.
