[Bug 991132] Re: Assertion fails in subtitleeditor when opening video

2013-02-04 Thread Ramaddan
Hi,

I downloaded the source from raring, and it already contained the
patches, and compiled it in Quantal, and all went well.

Working now, thanks :-)

[Bug 991132] Re: Assertion fails in subtitleeditor when opening video

2013-02-03 Thread Ramaddan
Hi,

I tried running the subtitle Editor packages from raring on quantal, and
they installed without any problem.

However, it does not run, giving me the following error:

undefined symbol: _ZN3Gst12MILLI_SECONDE

I am assuming that this symbol is supposed to be defined by some package
somewhere, and I am assuming that is has something to do with a gstream
pakage, due to the gst part in the message, but I could be wrong, and
I wish the message was more meaningful to me.

Thanks

2013-01-30 Thread Ramaddan
Hi,

It still crashes with me in Quantal.

When it is said that the fix has already been released, in which version
exactly?

Because I need to know if it is supposed to be fixed in Quantal as well,
or else I have a different priblem.

Thanks

[Bug 549447] Re: eGalax touchscreen configured as tablet

2011-11-04 Thread Ramaddan
Hi,

Can someone point me to the right direction.

When I was using Ubuntu Maverick, it was a pain to get my eGalax touch
screen working.

But when Natty came out, it worked right out of the box, except for the
inverted y-axis, which I didn't mind, since I could just reverse the y
coordinates numbers of the 99-calibrator.conf file to get it right.

However, now it regressed under oneiric, and I lost control of my
touchscreen.

I remember once trying a different kernel during the Maverick days and
it got it working, but I forgot where I got that kernel from, but I
remember it was part of kernels being tested and higher up in version
than the one in Maverick.

So is this a kernel issue or an evdev issue?

Thanks

[Bug 218094] Re: Wrong battery information on MSI S271 laptop with msi-laptop module loaded

2010-06-13 Thread Ramaddan
Hi,

I'm using Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 with the latest updates.

Ever since I tried Ubuntu for a while now, whether Jaunty, Karmic, or
Lucid, I always had issues with my Laptop battery status.

The Laptop is an LG R700.

The status is always off. Sometimes is shows correctly, and sometimes it
just shows as AC instead of battery or vice versa.

It is never correct for too long, and instead keeps rotating randomly
between correct status and wrong status, and is usually wrong.

I'm not sure if this is the same as this bug. Please point out if it is
a different bug, and what information you would require.

Thanks

[Bug 479179] Re: mouse left and right click events are disabled in gnome session after changing to sugar session

2009-12-26 Thread Ramaddan
Hi,

Had the exact same problem, and was driving me crazy after trying to use
Sugar.

However, someone suggested to disable Compiz in the forums for an issue
with mouse poling while he was using a program, so it gave me the idea
to try disabling Compiz and see what happens.

After doing so, my mouse worked normally again, so I narrowed it down to
Compiz.

Then I went all around Compiz settings, until I finally found the
culprit in the General Options, Key bindings for Window Menu.

Just to make things short, you can access it directly through gconf:

/apps/compizconfig/profiles/Default/general/allscreens/options/window_menu_button

Change setting from Button3 to AltButton3 (Without quotes of
course)

Hope this helps.

Question still remains. Why does Sugar change this setting?

[Bug 446093] Re: nm-applet loaded, but icon not visible (karmic)

2009-12-05 Thread Ramaddan
This problem suddenly disappeared with me, and I have no idea how.

I have no idea if it was from updates or so on.

However, just in case it is relevant, I currently use the following kernels:
linux-image-2.6.31-14-generic-pae
linux-image-2.6.31-15-generic-pae

If my memory serves me right, I used to have some network errors in 2.6.31-15,
and the nm-applet icon would not show up when it logged in until I restarted it.

However, things were never smooth with me with image-2.6.31-15, and in
the end, it just stopped booting up the system altogether and would hang
on boot up.

So I went back to 2.6.31-14 and since then did not have the nm-applet
problem anymore.

The issue is, since 2.6.31-15 hangs with me, I cannot confirm that the
nm-applet issue is related to this kernel.

Can others whose 2.6.31-15 kernel is working try to go back to 2.6.31-14
and see if it makes a difference with the nm-applet issue?

As a side note, can anyone point me if there is a bug report for the
2.6.31-15 kernel issue I have?

Thanks

[Bug 23346] Re: Detection of Lacie USB2 harddrive fails

2009-11-11 Thread Ramaddan
Well, I had to access my information, so I had to get a new hardisk
enclosure.

I do not know anymore if it was just a hardware issue or a firmware one.

So unfortunately I cannot really give more info for it.

I removed the hardisk from the enclosure, and tried it directly on my
PC, and it worked fine, so I got a new enclosure.

With the new enclosure, everything is working great.

Thanks for taking the time.

[Bug 344705] Re: IcedTea Plugin Doesnt Work

2009-07-25 Thread Ramaddan
Hi,

Have the same problem here, the CPU load just shoots up, and the plugin
doe snot really work.

Also, I noticed that the /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin.so was
not pointing to the correct icetea java plugin, but rather to the sun
java plugin.

Some programs still use the /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, and thus this
should be updated when a different java plugin is installed.

Hope this is fixed, as this is the only thing that stops many from using
the open source java.

If you require any other type of information, please advise.

[Bug 6435] Re: /lib/udev/hotplug.functions is missing

2009-07-20 Thread Ramaddan
Hi,

The GPSD package uses this file if the user would like the GPS device to
be automatically detected and loaded by GPSD.

Since this file (hotplug.functions) is still missing in Ubuntu including
Jaunty and Karmic, is there an alternative to using this file?

I downloaded hotplug.functions from Debian sid, and copied it to
/lib/udev for the autodetecting to work in GPSD

It is called by the following file in the GPSD package:
/lib/dev/gpsd.hotplug.wrapper

The following changes had to also be made in the file in order for
everything to work properly:

[ $START_DAEMON = true ] || exit 0

Changed to:
[ $START_DAEMON = false ] || exit 0

Also, it had to be activated in the following file /etc/default/gpsd:

USBAUTO=true

And I might had to add a device in:
DEVICES=/dev/ttyUSB0

But I don't remember anymore.

It's working now, but I noticed that as long as I keep plugging and
unplugging the GPS device, it keeps increasing in its allocation as
follows:

/dev/ttyUSB0
/dev/ttyUSB1
/dev/ttyUSB2
/dev/ttyUSB3
/dev/ttyUSB4

Shouldn't it instead free the previous device and use it again if it is
available instead of increasing?

If you can direct me to an alternative way of retrieving the
functionality of hotplug.functions, I would be very grateful.

Was it removed to be replaced by something else?

Thanks

[Bug 365527] Re: [i945g] Jaunty kubuntu freezes all the time

2009-05-23 Thread Ramaddan
@Dave Gilbert: The problem is in Karmic too, so I would not recommend
moving to it, as it will not solve your problem, and on top of that it
is in Alpha stage with many problems and issues.

[Bug 368135] Re: X crashes after a few minutes or seconds (Jaunty)

2009-05-23 Thread Ramaddan
Have the same problem here, and many others reported a similar problem
and a lot of them seem to use eGalax touchscreens that use the xserver-
xorg-input-evtouch driver.

This problem came up for me in Jaunty and still ongoing in Karmic.

[Bug 317127] Re: evtouch calibrate tool does not detect mouse position

2009-05-22 Thread Ramaddan
Hi @thejinx0r and Format C,

I have no idea what this problem is from, and I can't reproduce it,
because I don't seem to have it.

Did you try to see if pressure sensitivity is turned on or off in
Options in Xournal and if it makes any difference?

What type of touchscreens do you have (model, size, type, etc)?

If you install the package attached to this post, do you still have the
problem?

Hi,

I'm using Intrepid on one of my machines and had this problem, and the
problem got fixed by following the directions by David Ramey, thanks.

Will the package with the fix be placed in the repoes?

[Bug 378572] Re: evtouch calibrate axis inversion feature needed

These options:
merge key=input.x11_options.swapx type=string0/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.swapy type=string0/merge

Are not reliable though, as they seem to not work many times, so
probably need to be fixed too.

[Bug 378572] [NEW] evtouch calibrate axis inversion feature needed

2009-05-19 Thread Ramaddan
Public bug reported:

Ever since I got an eGalax touchscreen and installed Intrepid, one problem I
always had was two folds:
- I need a keyboard to even be able to calibrate it, because an enter is
required
- No matter how I calibrate, the vertical direction on the screen is always
inverted.

Which means if I touch the top of the screen, it was as if I touched the
bottom of the screen.

So I went through Jaunty, and even Karmic, hoping that this problem
might change, but the problem still persisted.

I figured maybe no bug report was given for this.

In order for my touchscreen to work properly, I need to do the following:
1) Edit: /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/50-eGalax.fdi (before Karmic)
or:
/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/50-eGalax.fdi (in Karmic)

2) Then I need to swap the miny and maxy values:

So that section goes from:
merge key=input.x11_options.minx type=string130/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.miny type=string197/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.maxx type=string3945/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.maxy type=string3894/merge

To:
merge key=input.x11_options.minx type=string130/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.miny type=string3894/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.maxx type=string3945/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.maxy type=string197/merge

After that, then my touchscreen works properly.

Another way to achieve the same result, and probably more proper, is to
just add the following options without swapping any values:

merge key=input.x11_options.swapx type=string0/merge
merge key=input.x11_options.swapy type=string0/merge

A) Is there a way for the calibration tool to detect this issue and
invert the axis when required?

B) Is there a way that the calibration continues without having to press
ENTER, as that requires a keyboard and defeats the point of a
touchscreen.

Please tell me if any other information is required.

[Bug 357832] Re: evtouch: drag not works

2009-05-18 Thread Ramaddan
Hi,

Yeah, the same used to happen with me, it used to hang only when I used
the touchscreen, but when I got the latest intel driver, but you don't
have intel, so I have no idea what is happening.

It might really be a touchscreen driver issue.

I think you should open a new bug report specifically about this
problem.

Hmm... I started to have the problem again.

Did it happen with you after some updates?

I also get it from the touchscreen. As long as I don't touch it, nothing
happens.

Which was a problem I had from before anyways, but I thought was fixed.

2009-05-18 Thread Ramaddan
@Martin: Problem is back.

For some reason, I started having the freezes again.

The issue is, as I will re-emphasize, I only get the freezes when I use
the touchscreen, nothing else.

Wouldn't that suggest a problem with the touchscreen driver?

My PC uses the xserver-xorg-input-evtouch driver for the touchscreen to
work.

The procedure works very good for me, works all as expected (901go with
eGalax / jaunty).

But I can only use the touchpad for a while, then the system freezes
(with bothxserver-xorg-input-evtouch-versions the original jounty one
and the one from Ramaddan)

Strangely the system never freezed with 8.10

[Bug 317127] Re: evtouch calibrate tool does not detect mouse position

2009-05-15 Thread Ramaddan
Hi,

thejinx0r: I'm not sure about a delay, but in general, the touchscreen
does seem to be slower than your average mouse in responding to touch or
repeated touches, and it would be nice to know if response time can be
improved. I just did not really take any time to look into it.

awechris: I have a package which I built upon the current package
present in Jaunty, but I would rather not make it public, as no one
checked over how sane the patch is yet, nor what the missing pieces are
for which I posted in my earlier message.

I can send it to you to your email if you would like that.

I turned off the UXA mode, and I did not get that anymore.

I tried the 2.7.1, and it seems good :-) I did not have any crashes yet.

If I do get anything, I'll get back to you. Will this be uploaded to the

[Bug 365527] Re: [i945g] Jaunty kubuntu freezes all the time

2009-05-12 Thread Ramaddan
Hi,

I tried both the stock driver and the 2.7.0 driver, both behaving
similarly as follows:

- They both freeze often when the touchscreen is touched too many times.
- When the following is added as follows in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Section Device
 Identifier Configured Video Device
 Option AccelMethod uxa
EndSection

Then I noticed that the occurence of freezes reduces drastically, but
still happens for both drivers.

- Something new came with switching to UXA.
Sometimes the screen does one very fast flick (almost unnoticeable), and then
it goes away, then comes back after a long time.

- One difference that I noticed was that the UXA method also makes the whole
screen go black, but the computer does not freeze, as I can still go to
CTRL+ALT+F1 and restart GDM.
But this only occured in the stock driver so far, but I have not tested long
enough to see if it occurs in the new one as well.

Hope all this info helps.

[Bug 317127] Re: evtouch calibrate tool does not detect mouse position

2009-05-10 Thread Ramaddan
Hi hackeron, thanks for the input.

I looked into the patch, and you're right, it was not applying.

However, I was thrown off before, because I looked into the source and
some patches were applied, due to the new code and version difference I
think, but not all.

So I looked into it more, and even though it might work, I'm still
trying to figure out how to apply the patch properly, as it seems
important code has changed since version 0.8.3 (which the patch seems to
be for) and version 0.8.8, which might be why it was commented out, and
thus some things are not patching due to code change.

Before continuing, I am trying to figure the patch out, and see if it
can be updated, and any help from developers would be appreciated, as it
is better to know exactly what is being done and happening, so as to be
able to make an official and proper patch.

Thanks

[Bug 317127] Re: evtouch calibrate tool does not detect mouse position

2009-05-10 Thread Ramaddan
hi,

My moving, scrolling, dragging, and so on are finally working.

I made a new patch file for the changes I made attached to this message.

The patch file can replace the 02-buttonless-device.patch file that
comes with the downloaded source file from the Jaunty repository in
debian/patches, and you need to remove the uncomment (#) symbol in
front of the 02-buttonless-device.patch before building package for
the patch to work, or you can just apply the patch manually.

I manually applied all the changes that were in the old patch file which
seems to there since the 0.8.3 version of xserver-xorg-input-evtouch.

I had to compensate for some slight changes in versions in order to
fully implement the patch changes to the evtouch.c file.

However, I could only apply one of the changes to the libtouch.c file,
as I was not sure how to implement the other two changes.

Here are the other two changes which were not implemented from the old
file:

If anyone can take a look at the patch file I made and confirm whether
the changes are safe and sane, I would appreciate it.

Also, if anyone could take a look into the unimplemented changes and
elaborate on them and clarify as to what they leave out, if anything.
Thanks.

I added a fix to this problem here:

Can anyone look into the patch and changes made in my post as well as

Thanks.

[Bug 365527] Re: Jaunty freezes all the time

2009-05-04 Thread Ramaddan
Hi,

I tried following the steps mentioned in:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze

And:
https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-freeze-test

The log and dump files are attached.

I was not able to to SSH into the forzen machine though, and thus just
restarted and did the remaining steps after it froze.

Will that render the information useless, or still useful?

==
Notes:
==

When Did You First Notice It?:
--

When I upgraded from Intrepid to Jaunty

What Frequency Does it Occur?:
--

Frequent: I happens very frequently, but only when I tap my touchscreen.
If I don't tap anything, then nothing happens.

Define Steps to Reproduce:
--

- Turn on PC, log in, start using stylus pen on touchscreen, and at some point
it will freeze.
- Whether I attach keyboard or mice to the computer, nothing makes it freeze
except when I use the touchscreen, then X Freezes completely at some point.

Get a Batchbuffer Dump (-intel only):
-

- File is attached of dump, but I could not SSH into the machine so I just
restarted and did the remaining step in the link:
https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-freeze-test

Does that render the information useless or is it still useful?

Observations:
-

- Freezes even with Compiz OFF
- I did not have this problem in Intrepid

Hope this helps with this problem.

2009-05-02 Thread Ramaddan
I seem to have the same problem here.

My hardware contains an i945 intel graphic card, and an eGalax
touchscreen.

Actually, when I leave the PC alone, nothing seems to happen, but the
more I use the touchschreen, the higher chance that the PC freezes.

It's as if X freezes more so than the kernel, because it seems the
hardisk is still being accessed and so on.

Do you need nay information, and how would I go about providing it?

[Bug 263782] Re: intrepid hang with screen corruption during boot with 2.6.27-2-generic on x61

2008-10-28 Thread Ramaddan
Hi Leann,

@Ramaddan, which specific 2.6.27-7 kernel are you using? 'cat
/proc/version_signature' should show you. Thanks.

This is what I got:
Ubuntu 2.6.27-7.14-generic

The thing is, it stopped going corrupt after I used StartUp-Manager to
change the resolution to 800x600, and I also changed the color depth to
16bits.

So I'm not sure if it is stopped because of that, or an update that I
did not notice.

[Bug 59797] libfx86config is missing in xorg-dev package

2006-09-10 Thread Ramaddan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg-dev

Hi,

I noticed that the libfx86config files which used to be
available as xlibs-static-dev_6.8.2-77.1_i386.deb package in
Breezy is no longer available in Dapper or Edgy.

The files contained in this package are obtained by compiling
the Xserver using the --enable-install-libxf86config option.

Is it possible to make this development package available as a
Dapper backport for now, and in the normal upstream in Edgy?

This package is required for Sax2, which would make graphic
card detection and setting up much easier.

It can be found here: http://sax.berlios.de/

It also seems to be required for X Configuration Tool, which
does more or less the same, and can be found here:

http://fedora.redhat.com/projects/config-tools/redhat-config-
xfree86.html

I really think this is a very important package to have
available even if only for the two programs above, which would
make Ubuntu much more user friendly for users, and fulfill more
Ubuntu's statement: linux for human beings

Currently the Sax2 developpers are helping me port Sax2 to
Ubuntu, but without this missing package, can't do much.

Thanks for your help.
