[Bug 991132] Re: Assertion fails in subtitleeditor when opening video
Hi, I tried running the subtitle Editor packages from raring on quantal, and they installed without any problem. However, it does not run, giving me the following error: undefined symbol: _ZN3Gst12MILLI_SECONDE I am assuming that this symbol is supposed to be defined by some package somewhere, and I am assuming that is has something to do with a gstream pakage, due to the "gst" part in the message, but I could be wrong, and I wish the message was more meaningful to me. [Bug 549447] Re: eGalax touchscreen configured as tablet
Hi, Can someone point me to the right direction. When I was using Ubuntu Maverick, it was a pain to get my eGalax touch screen working. But when Natty came out, it worked right out of the box, except for the inverted y-axis, which I didn't mind, since I could just reverse the y coordinates numbers of the 99-calibrator.conf file to get it right. However, now it regressed under oneiric, and I lost control of my touchscreen. I remember once trying a different kernel during the Maverick days and it got it working, but I forgot where I got that kernel from, but I remember it was part of kernels being tested and higher up in version than the one in Maverick. So is this a kernel issue or an evdev issue? Hi, I'm using Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 with the latest updates. Ever since I tried Ubuntu for a while now, whether Jaunty, Karmic, or Lucid, I always had issues with my Laptop battery status. The Laptop is an LG R700. The status is always off. Sometimes is shows correctly, and sometimes it just shows as AC instead of battery or vice versa. [Bug 479179] Re: mouse left and right click events are disabled in gnome session after changing to sugar session
Hi, Had the exact same problem, and was driving me crazy after trying to use Sugar. However, someone suggested to disable Compiz in the forums for an issue with mouse poling while he was using a program, so it gave me the idea to try disabling Compiz and see what happens. After doing so, my mouse worked normally again, so I narrowed it down to Compiz. Then I went all around Compiz settings, until I finally found the culprit in the General Options, Key bindings for Window Menu. Just to make things short, you can access it directly through gconf: /apps/compizconfig/profiles/Default/general/allscreens/options/window_menu_button Change setting from "Button3" to "Button3" (Without quotes of course) Hope this helps. [Bug 446093] Re: nm-applet loaded, but icon not visible (karmic)
This problem suddenly disappeared with me, and I have no idea how. I have no idea if it was from updates or so on. However, just in case it is relevant, I currently use the following kernels: linux-image-2.6.31-14-generic-pae linux-image-2.6.31-15-generic-pae If my memory serves me right, I used to have some network errors in 2.6.31-15, and the nm-applet icon would not show up when it logged in until I restarted it. However, things were never smooth with me with image-2.6.31-15, and in the end, it just stopped booting up the system altogether and would hang on boot up. So I went back to 2.6.31-14 and since then did not have the nm-applet problem anymore. The issue is, since 2.6.31-15 hangs with me, I cannot confirm that the nm-applet issue is related to this kernel. Can others whose 2.6.31-15 kernel is working try to go back to 2.6.31-14 and see if it makes a difference with the nm-applet issue? As a side note, can anyone point me if there is a bug report for the 2.6.31-15 kernel issue I have? Hi, The GPSD package uses this file if the user would like the GPS device to be automatically detected and loaded by GPSD. Since this file (hotplug.functions) is still missing in Ubuntu including Jaunty and Karmic, is there an alternative to using this file? I downloaded hotplug.functions from Debian sid, and copied it to /lib/udev for the autodetecting to work in GPSD It is called by the following file in the GPSD package: /lib/dev/gpsd.hotplug.wrapper The following changes had to also be made in the file in order for everything to work properly: [ "$START_DAEMON" = "true" ] || exit 0 Changed to: [ "$START_DAEMON" = "false" ] || exit 0 Also, it had to be activated in the following file /etc/default/gpsd: USBAUTO="true" And I might had to add a device in: DEVICES="/dev/ttyUSB0" But I don't remember anymore. It's working now, but I noticed that as long as I keep plugging and unplugging the GPS device, it keeps increasing in its allocation as follows: /dev/ttyUSB0 /dev/ttyUSB1 /dev/ttyUSB2 /dev/ttyUSB3 /dev/ttyUSB4 Shouldn't it instead free the previous device and use it again if it is available instead of increasing? [Bug 378572] [NEW] evtouch calibrate axis inversion feature needed
Public bug reported: Ever since I got an eGalax touchscreen and installed Intrepid, one problem I always had was two folds: - I need a keyboard to even be able to calibrate it, because an "enter" is required - No matter how I calibrate, the vertical direction on the screen is always inverted. Which means if I touch the top of the screen, it was as if I touched the bottom of the screen. So I went through Jaunty, and even Karmic, hoping that this problem might change, but the problem still persisted. I figured maybe no bug report was given for this. In order for my touchscreen to work properly, I need to do the following: 1) Edit: /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/50-eGalax.fdi (before Karmic) or: /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/50-eGalax.fdi (in Karmic) 2) Then I need to swap the miny and maxy values: So that section goes from: 130 197 3945 3894 To: 130 3894 3945 197 After that, then my touchscreen works properly. Another way to achieve the same result, and probably more proper, is to just add the following options without swapping any values: 0 0 A) Is there a way for the calibration tool to detect this issue and invert the axis when required? B) Is there a way that the calibration continues without having to press ENTER, as that requires a keyboard and defeats the point of a touchscreen. Please tell me if any other information is required. [Bug 365527] Re: [i945g] Jaunty kubuntu freezes all the time
@Martin: Problem is back. For some reason, I started having the freezes again. The issue is, as I will re-emphasize, I only get the freezes when I use the touchscreen, nothing else. Wouldn't that suggest a problem with the touchscreen driver? Hi, Yeah, the same used to happen with me, it used to hang only when I used the touchscreen, but when I got the latest intel driver, but you don't have intel, so I have no idea what is happening. Hi, thejinx0r: I'm not sure about a delay, but in general, the touchscreen does seem to be slower than your average mouse in responding to touch or repeated touches, and it would be nice to know if response time can be improved. I just did not really take any time to look into it. awechris: I have a package which I built upon the current package present in Jaunty, but I would rather not make it public, as no one checked over how sane the patch is yet, nor what the missing pieces are for which I posted in my earlier message. [Bug 365527] Re: [i945g] Jaunty kubuntu freezes all the time
Hi, I tried both the stock driver and the 2.7.0 driver, both behaving similarly as follows: - They both freeze often when the touchscreen is touched too many times. - When the following is added as follows in /etc/X11/xorg.conf Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" Option "AccelMethod" "uxa" EndSection Then I noticed that the occurence of freezes reduces drastically, but still happens for both drivers. - Something new came with switching to UXA. Sometimes the screen does one very fast flick (almost unnoticeable), and then it goes away, then comes back after a long time. - One difference that I noticed was that the UXA method also makes the whole screen go black, but the computer does not freeze, as I can still go to CTRL+ALT+F1 and restart GDM. But this only occured in the stock driver so far, but I have not tested long enough to see if it occurs in the new one as well. [Bug 317127] Re: evtouch calibrate tool does not detect mouse position
hi, My moving, scrolling, dragging, and so on are finally working. I made a new patch file for the changes I made attached to this message. The patch file can replace the "02-buttonless-device.patch" file that comes with the downloaded source file from the Jaunty repository in "debian/patches", and you need to remove the uncomment (#) symbol in front of the "02-buttonless-device.patch" before building package for the patch to work, or you can just apply the patch manually. I manually applied all the changes that were in the old patch file which seems to there since the 0.8.3 version of "xserver-xorg-input-evtouch". I had to compensate for some slight changes in versions in order to fully implement the patch changes to the evtouch.c file. However, I could only apply one of the changes to the libtouch.c file, as I was not sure how to implement the other two changes. [Bug 317127] Re: evtouch calibrate tool does not detect mouse position
Hi hackeron, thanks for the input. I looked into the patch, and you're right, it was not applying. However, I was thrown off before, because I looked into the source and some patches were applied, due to the new code and version difference I think, but not all. So I looked into it more, and even though it might work, I'm still trying to figure out how to apply the patch properly, as it seems important code has changed since version 0.8.3 (which the patch seems to be for) and version 0.8.8, which might be why it was commented out, and thus some things are not patching due to code change. Before continuing, I am trying to figure the patch out, and see if it can be updated, and any help from developers would be appreciated, as it is better to know exactly what is being done and happening, so as to be able to make an official and proper patch. Sorry, my mistake for not clarifying further. I get that error when I try to compile the program Debcreator. [Bug 59797] libfx86config is missing in xorg-dev package
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg-dev Hi, I noticed that the "libfx86config" files which used to be available as "xlibs-static-dev_6.8.2-77.1_i386.deb" package in Breezy is no longer available in Dapper or Edgy. The files contained in this package are obtained by compiling the Xserver using the "--enable-install-libxf86config" option. Is it possible to make this development package available as a Dapper backport for now, and in the normal upstream in Edgy? This package is required for "Sax2", which would make graphic card detection and setting up much easier. It can be found here: http://sax.berlios.de/ It also seems to be required for X Configuration Tool, which does more or less the same, and can be found here: http://fedora.redhat.com/projects/config-tools/redhat-config- xfree86.html I really think this is a very important package to have available even if only for the two programs above, which would make Ubuntu much more user friendly for users, and fulfill more Ubuntu's statement: "linux for human beings" Currently the Sax2 developpers are helping me port Sax2 to Ubuntu, but without this missing package, can't do much.
