[Bug 1459079] Re: Background image fails to load on lightdm-gtk-greeter

2015-05-28 Thread Richard Fleming
Installing the proprietary driver (NVIDIA binary driver version 340.76)
indeed eliminates the 'white' background image on lightdm-gtk-greeter.
Switching back to Nouveau also turns the background 'white'.

[Bug 1459079] Re: Background image fails to load on lightdm-gtk-greeter

2015-05-27 Thread Richard Fleming
On further recollection (when changing my lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf
file), I remembered I set the active-monitor param as a long-shot based
on bug 1426664, which did nothing.

Reporting back on #2 and #3 of Andrew's queries.

#2. When I switch VT's and then back, the background shows
#3. When disabling the image and setting a colour, it works as expected on
initial boot. As a side note, I have never seen a RED so eyeball burning on
such a large surface area.

One other thing has just clicked in my head. I half-expected an xubuntu
splash screen to show on system boot (like on shutdown), but I don't see
that. Instead I have a black screen on load, a 'flicker' which shows
multi-coloured lines, and then the greeter sans-background (now with
more RED).

Copy of my lightdm-gtk-greeter. It should be 'stock' as I have not done
anything.

[Bug 1459079] [NEW] Background image fails to load on lightdm-gtk-greeter

2015-05-26 Thread Richard Fleming
Public bug reported:

After my system boots, the lightdm-gtk-greeter fails to load the
wallpaper, instead leaving a 'white' screen. ALL other aspects load
(icons, indicators, clock, login box) show, but the background does not.

After logging in, the lightdm-gtk-greeter wallpaper then is displayed
and then replaced with my own personal wallpaper.

When I log out of my system, lightdm-gtk-greeter shows the default
wallpaper and everything is as it should be until I reboot and once
again find the 'white' background.

Additionally, I am using a Lenovo ThinkPad W510 (4319-2PU) with a built-
in Nvidia Quadro FX 880M, but using the stock nouveau driver provided.

I've also installed (and since removed) the daily build of lightdm-gtk-
greeter in the hopes that the newer build would have corrected this
behaviour. It did not, and I downgraded back to 2.0.0-0ubuntu1.

[Bug 484336] [NEW] /etc/rsyslog.conf permissions incorrect/missing for creation of dynamic files

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rsyslog

When using templates to create dynamic directories and files with
rsyslog, rsyslog can create the directories, but does not have the
appropriate permissions to create files within them.

By default, directories created by rsyslog are owned root:root and
generates an error in /var/log/syslog as follows:

Furthermore, adding $DirOwner and $DirGroup to match those of $FileOwner
