[Bug 1077201] Re: Unity Launcher steals minimize app animation end point from other docks
There is actually nothing that can be done here. Only 1 location on the screen can be the icon region for an application. If you run more than 1 dock, then they will (at best) fight to set that region. Unity updates the region more often than say Docky, so it 'wins' in that situation. [Bug 1077201] Re: Unity Launcher steals minimize app animation end point from other docks
Also think about the general problem you are seeing. Your application has 2 locations on the screen that have a launcher for it: one on Unity and one on some other dock. How is the system supposed to know which of those 2 it should animate the minimize to? You can solve the problem by only having ONE of the 2 contain a launcher for the program. So between Unity's launcher and other dock your application only appears on one of the two. In that case, it should work as expected. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1077201 Title: Unity Launcher steals minimize app animation end point from other docks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/awn/+bug/1077201/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1077201] Re: Unity Launcher steals minimize app animation end point from other docks
The panels also caused the problem. It is just that the frequency with which the panels updated the icon regions was (most likely) much less, so the dock would 'win' in that situation. Unity, as far as I know, updates the regions much more frequently (at least in comparison to Docky and Plank, which I work on). Thus Unity typically 'wins' against other docks.
If I'm not mistaking, that would make Docky win again Maybe. Maybe not. The point here is that they are both contending to set that geometry, so if Docky starts updating more frequently then you'll probably see much more non-deterministic behavior. They will fight even more! can anything be done to actually change the Desktop Environment, so that more than just one location on the screen can be the icon region for a window? This is actually part of the WM standard, changing this is a lot more involved than you probably realize. why can't we simply have an option to have an animation's start/end point move to the cursor for minimizing/restoring, just like we have it for open/close? You can, just ask Compiz for that feature. The animations are drawn by Compiz. However I make no promise that they would implement that. Personally, I think that is a bad solution and I wouldn't implement it. There is one option you seem to be missing: stop using Unity. [Bug 1049279] [NEW] Launcher shows progress for every item and missing items
Public bug reported: The launcher is drawing items incorrectly. The visible items all have a progress bar shown, though no progress is initiated by those apps. Some items are pushed 'up' and not visible, though if I move the mouse into the blank spaces I get hovers for the items I can't see. The hovers display at the proper Y location, however they trigger at the wrong Y location. The mouse triggers the hovers roughly proportional in the empty space (IE, if the space is 320px tall and I'm missing 4 items then every 80px I move up triggers the next item). Note that the visible items all have proper hovers and display menus. They behave proper, other than showing progress bars. I am not sure what triggered this bug. I first noticed it when I saw the launcher visible on my lock screen, though it may have occurred prior to that. I do not have steps to reproduce (I have only seen this happen once). [Bug 1036944] [NEW] Spreading workspaces with multiple monitors displays wrong
Public bug reported: I attached an external monitor to my laptop. The configuration is to span the monitors (no mirror): left monitor: 1680x1050 right monitor: 1920x1200 they are aligned so the top edges match I spread the workspaces (Super+S) and the display seems wrong. All of the workspaces (for both monitors) appear on the left monitor, and about 80% of the workspaces appear on the right monitor. See attached image. I expected either a split (50/50) or duplication (100% on both). Note that when I changed the right monitor's resolution to 1680x1050, spreading now does a 50/50 split (as expected?). [Bug 924472] Re: Add option to hide 'Show Desktop' in switcher
The switcher is highly inconsistent. Sometimes I hit alt-tab and it does nothing (refocus the active window). Sometimes it will switch apps. Sometimes it switches windows within the same app. It is almost so non-deterministic that I can't actually tell what the intended behavior is. At any rate, I don't care to have 'show desktop' in the alt-tab *at all* because like you, I randomly accidentally trigger it and I almost never actually want to show my desktop. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/924472 Title: Add option to hide 'Show Desktop' in switcher To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/924472/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 928807] Re: Maximized windows cast shadows on adjacent monitors
I should note that this does not just affect multimon setups. I have a single monitor with the default 4 workspaces and see this bug. Maximized window on the top-right workspace casts a shadow onto windows on the top-left. In fact, non-maximized windows also cast if I just move them to the right edge of the screen. From the duplicate bug: layout of my windows on the screen: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/104261481/bug-spread.png image of the bug casting a shadow onto Chrome: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/104261466/bug-shadow.png Note the lack of multimon and lack of maximized window causing this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/928807 Title: Maximized windows cast shadows on adjacent monitors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/928807/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 928807] Re: Maximized windows cast shadows on adjacent monitors
I should also point out that the stacking order of the windows matters. If I click on the empathy window (top-right, which casts the shadow) then move to the top-left workspace I see the bug. If I then click on the Chrome window (which already has focus!) the shadow goes away. It won't come back unless I click on the Empathy window (even if I switch back to that workspace and Empathy has focus).

[Bug 994203] Re: Xorg freeze with Nouveau drivers
I'm having a similar bug with the radeon driver. Randomly (though often when watching youtube) the screen would just stop updating. I could move the mouse cursor around and I think it was accepting keyboard input but nothing on the screen updated. I could ctrl-alt-f1 over and kill the x session and everything would be fine for awhile again. However, for me it just started happening which led me to test if it was related to recent kernel upgrades. I rebooted with 3.2.0-23 and now I don't seem to have this bug! [Bug 924501] [NEW] Muting sound hides indicator
Public bug reported: Upon logging in, there was no sound indicator visible. I determined that as long as the output volume is muted, the indicator is hidden. Toggling mute hides/shows the indicator. If you don't mind hacking the Docky source and compiling it yourself, it is easy to disable that check. [Bug 811826] Re: Not possible for other docks to use Unity LauncherAPI
Since the unity team came up with their own API instead of using DockManager, and due to the pushing of it by Canonical and thus lots of apps adopting that API (in favor of DockManager), Michal Hruby and I decided to just stop supporting DockManager. Thus, all docks will (most likely) start supporting the unity API instead. So this bug will now affect any dock that might support that: DockbarX, AWN, Docky, Plank, etc. The poster's hack seems reasonable (as a hack), in that it is probably rare that users would want to run more than one dock at the same time. But hopefully there is a better solution. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/811826 Title: Not possible for other docks to use Unity LauncherAPI To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libunity/+bug/811826/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 511511] Re: Can't launch file managers
Let me be quite blunt about why this bug is not fixed in Docky. I believe it is either a problem with Nautilus or whatever session manager you use. Here is my logic. The bug only happens when Docky auto-starts, usually via a session manager (gnome-session, etc). Docky will inherit the environment *at the point it starts*. Thus, I believe the issue is that something in the environment is not set prior to Docky auto-starting and Nautilus will not work (without an explicit path passed in!) without whatever that missing environment is. So either, Nautilus has a bug and needs to be smarter and start without that environment (seems reasonable to me... if I ask Nautilus to start, why won't it show a window??). Or you need a session manager smart enough to order the startup such that Docky starts after whatever starts that sets up that missing environment. In either case, there is nothing Docky can do. I have been kind enough to not mark this a Invalid/WontFix, mostly so it shows up in our bug list. But basically I consider it a non-Docky bug and thus it is out of my hands. PS, this logic applies to any app having this issue such as Plank and Slingshot. I mean think about it people, Docky (plank/slingshot) is running the command 'nautilus' (and you can indeed verify it runs this, and Nautilus just exits). [Bug 511511] Re: Nautilus not start
@Peter, it is very deterministic. The problem only manifests when Docky auto-starts. When that happens, Nautilus fails to launch. I believe the issue is that some environment variable(s) are not fully set at that point, Docky inherits that (incomplete) environment, and then passes it on to Nautilus when it launches. The solution is to start Docky after your desktop has loaded. If you auto-start, close and restart Docky and it works perfect. [Bug 688804] Re: Docky should quit before window-manager (metacity) or it will complain about compositing not enabled.

It needs to know to shut down Docky before Compiz/Metacity. ** Changed in: docky Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/688804 Title: Docky should quit before window-manager (metacity) or it will complain about compositing not enabled. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I should point out that the notification in no way should slow down your logout.
