Well in the latest version
https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/focal/tree/arch/arm64/configs/bcm2711_defconfig?h=raspi
 I see that both 'CONFIG_CLK_RASPBERRYPI' and 'CONFIG_ARM_RASPBERRYPI_CPUFREQ'
are set to 'y' why do you think it was disabled again?

> Is it sufficient simply to re-enable CONFIG_CLK_RASPBERRYPI?
I don't know, but the original commit also enabled
CONFIG_ARM_RASPBERRYPI_CPUFREQ=y

If Hui Wang meant with his comment#7[1] something different than
enabling 'CONFIG_CLK_RASPBERRYPI' and 'CONFIG_ARM_RASPBERRYPI_CPUFREQ' I
don't know what it is.

@oooh and thefluxster
The fix is in for linux-image-2.6.32-23-generic so if you have upgraded to this
kernel already and you still have the issue you probably have a different
touchpad.
I'm using the Main server (KpackageKit Settings Edit Software Sources
Download from) and linux-image-2.6.32-23-generic is available and I auto
updated to it through the KpackageKit auto update.

[Bug 537448] Re: No sound in sony vaio VPCEB16FG (Realtek ALC269, snd-hda-intel driver)

2010-05-06 Thread Rocky Stone
@ff670099
See Daniel T Chen's comment#97

Here is the link to the ppa with instructions how to add it:
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/+archive/ppa
Once you add the ppa install linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) package,
e.g. linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.32-22-generic and reboot. Sound should be
working after that.

This workaround works fine and we'll have to use it since the update of
http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/alsa-base to version 1.0.23 (which has
the fix) may take a while.

Hope that helps,
Rocky

Today I updated to linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic (version 2.6.32-22.33) from
the official lucid repositories, but edge scrolling doesn't work when I remove

Sony VAIO EB1E1E.
It's good we have the above workaround in the mean time.

[Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2010-05-06 Thread Rocky Stone
Today I updated to linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic (version 2.6.32-22.33) from
the official lucid repositories, but edge scrolling doesn't work when I remove
the below workaround.
I'm using Sony VAIO EB1E1E (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554050) and
maybe my touchpad has different device id.
Please let me know how to check the device id.
I tried with dmesg, but I couldn't find anything that looks like the removed
line from the patch attached to this bug.

It's good we have this permanent workaround in the mean time;
Add the following to /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.conf:
options psmouse proto=imps

The psmouse.conf file doesn't exist by default, just create a text file
with that name in /etc/modprobe.d/

Regards,
Rocky

[Bug 554050] Re: Touchpad vertical scrolling doesn't work after upgrade to 2.6.32-19 (Sony VAIO EB1E1E, AlpsPS2/2 ALPS)

2010-04-30 Thread Rocky Stone
Hi Jeremy,

I got the same results as Josh, but I don't think 2.6.33 solves the problem -
it is just old (from 25-Feb-2010) and doesn't recognize the touchpad same as
2.6.32-18 and older 2.6.32 kernels.
My guess is that with these kernels the touchpad is not recognized and a
generic driver is loaded with which the vertical scrolling is working. But
because the settings are not editable other features such as disabling tapping
while typing and scrolling using multitouch gestures can't be used.

Here is the outcome of my tries:

v2.6.33 - http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.33/
Same as 2.6.32-18 - the vertical scrolling *is* working, the touchpad is not
recognized and the settings are not editable (same as shown in
touchpad_2.6.32-18.png)

v2.6.34-rc6-lucid -
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.34-rc6-lucid/
Same as 2.6.32-19 - the vertical scrolling *is not* working, the touchpad is
recognized, the settings are editable, but don't take any effect (same as shown
in touchpad_2.6.32-19.png)

v2.6.34-rc1 - http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.34-rc1/
Couldn't boot with this kernel.

Regards,
Rocky

Problem is that it's not a simple solution as it involves to download
about 500MB in packages in order to build ALSA!.

500 MB?!? Don't go this way, you only need to download and build alsa-
driver.

Link:
http://alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Download#Latest_Software_Source_Releases
Direct link to the tarball that has the fix:
ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/alsa-driver-1.0.23.tar.bz2
Than ./configure make make install

[Bug 565447] Re: bash completion cd /usr/bin/X11 ad infinitum

2010-04-17 Thread Rocky Stone
That's not a bash bug, it is bug of whoever added /usr/bin/X11/
directory as link to current directory (i.e. it points to /usr/bin/ just
look at the contents of /usr/bin/X11 and you'll see they are the same as
/usr/bin)

$ ls -l /usr/bin/X11
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 1 2010-03-27 16:22 /usr/bin/X11 - .

I haven't tried it (and I'm not planning to, because it doesn't bother
me ;), but I think it is safe to delete this directory.

2010-04-17 Thread Rocky Stone
I have the same issue with Kubuntu 10.04 beta and kernel
2.6.32-20/2.6.32-21 on Sony VAIO VPC EB1E1E.

For me the crash occurs right after I choose Reboot or Shut down from
KDE Application launcher menu. It shows that plazma-desktop crashed with
Segmentation fault and after few seconds reboots/shuts down.

Workaround: If I reboot/shutdown by running 'sudo reboot' / 'sudo halt'
it doesn't crash.

The reason I didn't reported this myself is because apport failed with
Permission denied every time I tried to generate the crash report.

This is most probably a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561125
Not marking it as duplicate because this bug is for ATI audio, otherwise it
looks just the same as 561125:

[Bug 553989] Re: TV HDMI No Signal Lucid Lynx, NVidia and Sony Vaio

2010-04-04 Thread Rocky Stone
I have the same issue with Sony Vaio VPC EB1E1E and ATI Radeon 5470. With HDMI
cable it says No signal.
Tried also with VGA cable and my monitor (Samsung T200) doesn't even recognize
that the VGA input is connected (the laptop detects the monitor though).

[Bug 554050] [NEW] Touchpad vertical scrolling doesn't work after upgrade to 2.6.32-19 (Sony VAIO EB1E1E, AlpsPS2/2 ALPS)

2010-04-02 Thread Rocky Stone
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

After auto upgrading the kernel to linux-image-2.6.32-19-generic my touchpad
vertical scrolling (scrolling the vertical scrollbar by moving a finger on the
right border of the touchpad) doesn't work any more.
I'm using Kubuntu 10.04 (lucid) beta1 on Sony VAIO EB1E1E laptop. The touchpad
name reported in System settings is AlpsPS2/2 ALPS.

Verical scrolling used to work before the upgrade and when I booted the
previous kernel version 2.6.32-18 the touchpad vertical scrolling was
still working and the touchpad settings weren't editable (see attached
touchpad_2.6.32-18.png)

Now in 2.6.32-19 the touchpad settings are editable (see attached
touchpad_2.6.32-19.png) but don't wok for me.

Also setting Touchpad to 'off' isn't preserved - when I set it to 'off',
click Apply, close System Settings and open them again the Touchpad is
set to on.

Thanks,
Rocky

[Bug 537448] Re: No sound in sony vaio VPCEB16FG (Realtek ALC269, snd-hda-intel driver)

2010-04-02 Thread Rocky Stone
After upgrading to linux-image-2.6.32-19-the sound is missing again :(

When I boot the previous 2.6.32-18 kernel I still have sound, so the
issue is somewhere in the kernel changes.

Please ignore my previous comment #59 - after the upgrade I just had to
do make make install with the new kernel headers.

2010-04-01 Thread Rocky Stone
In https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=4934 the original
reported posted a patch for alsa-driver that works for me.
I have Vaio VPC EB1J1E and I'm using Kubuntu 10.04 (lucid) beta1. Applied the
patch on alsa-driver-1.0.22.1.90.g32fde.390.gffdb8 and sound and microphone now
work fine.

[Bug 364057] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 RC shows nothing on screen at boot

2009-04-26 Thread Rocky Stone
There are issues with ATI Radeon graphics cards and xserver 1.6 and/or 2.6.28
kernels.
See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/293698 -
[RV280 9250] No signal to monitor in 8.04 unless NoDRI used
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/348332 -
[RV250][JAUNTY] X Freezes with Radeon driver EXA/XAA Composite
and https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/133192 - Blank screen or
distorted image because of wrong default AGPMode value

I also have ATI Radeon 9250 (RV280) and adding NoDRI in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
solved my blank-screen-after-boot issue:
Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
Driver ati
Option NoDRI
EndSection
