[Bug 490957] Re: Movie player opens with spurious error message
Kamus, I've checked Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick and 10.04.1 Lucid and both load Movie Player correctly. [Bug 612083] Re: package rhythmbox 0.11.5-0ubuntu8.8.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 134
This bug was not an issue for me, it occurred when I upgraded online from 8.04 to 10.04 and was asked to file a bug. I did not follow it up but now I find that Rhythmbox is installed and working normally on 10.04. When I checked in 10.10 (Maverick) Rhythmbox was not installed so I have installed it and it appears to be working normally. 10.10 was an online upgrade from 10.04. As far as I am concerned the bug can be closed. -- package rhythmbox 0.11.5-0ubuntu8.8.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 134 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/612083 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 590090] Re: package ndiswrapper-dkms 1.56-1 failed to install/upgrade: ndiswrapper kernel module failed to build
Despite the claim at #10 above that this bug has been fixed I still cannot connect to my wireless network when I boot with the latest 2.6.35-xx-generic kernel package and to go on line I have to boot using the 2.6.32-23-generic kernel package I was using in 10.04 when I upgraded on line to 10.10. This problem occurs in Ubuntu and Xubuntu and on two different computers. What usually happens when I boot using the latest 2.6.35-xx-generic kernel package is that the Network Manager Applet tadpole swims in a circle for about 1 minute and then changes to the not connected indicator and the message "Wireless Connection Disconnected - you are now offline". Either when the the tadpole is showing or soon after it changes to the not connected indicator a crash is usually (but not always) reported with the message "Your system encountered a serious kernel problem", see Bug #623095. These crashes are titled "BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at " with the "" varying from crash to crash. Is there any further action I can take to enable progress towards a solution to this problem? -- package ndiswrapper-dkms 1.56-1 failed to install/upgrade: ndiswrapper kernel module failed to build https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/590090 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 619008] Re: Ubuntu 10.10 freezes when loading
Update on progress I have recently made in overcoming this problem. I can now boot up to the GUI desktop! How did I achieve this? I decided to remove the hardware driver, NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current) which I had inherited from 10.04.1 when I upgraded to 10.10. I was then able to boot up without freezing. System>Administration>Hardware Drivers still recommended this driver so I reactivated it and to my surprise I was still able to boot up without freezing. It would appear that the problem is not with Plymouth but down to the hardware driver. The problem is, however, only partially solved. I reported the problem from my main computer but it also existed on my older stand by/back up computer. This uses the NVIDIA 96 driver on 10.04.1 so I removed this on 10.10 which then booted up without freezing. I have been unable to find a driver which is recommended on this machine and boots up without freezing, I intend to report a new bug on this problem. I will be pleased to provide any further information if requested. -- Ubuntu 10.10 freezes when loading https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/619008 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

None of these key combinations have any effect, as I clearly stated in my original report (see above), the only action which works is Ctrl/Alt/Del to force reboot. -- Ubuntu 10.10 freezes when loading https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/619008 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 619008] Re: Ubuntu 10.10 freezes when loading
I attach boot.messages file produced immediately after booting with quiet splash deleted. Please note when I boot this way it boots to a CLI log in screen, not to the gui. I believe this file, which incidentally appears to be similar to the BootDmesg.txt file produced by Apport and attached to the original report, should contain all the information needed to proceed with debugging this problem. My reason for believing this file should contain the information you require is based on the following extract from "man dmesg": "DESCRIPTION dmesg is used to examine or control the kernel ring buffer. The program helps users to print out their bootup messages. Instead of copying the messages by hand, the user need only: dmesg > boot.messages and mail the boot.messages file to whoever can debug their problem." ** Attachment added: "boot.messages" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/619008/+attachment/1499823/+files/boot.messages -- Ubuntu 10.10 freezes when loading https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/619008 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 619008] Re: Ubuntu 10.10 freezes when loading
Booting with quiet splash deleted the messages move too quickly up the screen for me to read. When they stop I do not know how to copy and save what is on the screen. I thought all the files produced by apport and attached to the report would provide this information. Using the recovery mode I have to select FailsafeX to boot and run in low graphics mode. I do not have a Desktop/Live CD available as I upgraded on line from 10.04.1. -- Ubuntu 10.10 freezes when loading https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/619008 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I do not have gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad installed, should I try this package? -- Totem movie player not playing DVD Video https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338321 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 339670] Re: ndiswrapper uses deprecated "update-modules" command
I always get this message when I use Ndiswrapper. >From the current Ndiswrapper man page: "-m writes an alias for wlan0 (default >wireless device) into module configuration file so that ndiswrapper kernel >module is loaded automatically when this interface is used" If there is a new option option which should be use in place of -m then the man page needs correcting. -- ndiswrapper uses deprecated "update-modules" command https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/339670 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 338321] Re: Totem movie player not playing DVD Video
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 137527 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137527 Initially totem-gstreamer which didn't work and is the subject of this bug report. Now using totem-xine which is working OK. Tried running /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh which installed libdvdcss2 OK but totem-gstreamer still not working. Ubuntu 9.04 installed libdvdread4 when I responded to the Totem message re installation of codecs. -- Totem movie player not playing DVD Video https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338321 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 338321] Re: Totem movie player not playing DVD Video
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 137527 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137527 I consider the duplicate status of this bug is wrong. This bug applies specifically to Ubuntu 9.04 release, bug #137527 applies to an earlier release. I have on the same computer Ubuntu 8.04.2 and Ubuntu 8.10. Totem music player plays DVD Videos on these releases OK. The packages installed in 9.04 when responding to the Totem message re installation of codecs differ only in respect of release numbers with two exceptions, one omission and one addition, see table below: Ubuntu 8.10 Ubuntu 9.04 gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg (0.10.5-1) (0.10.6-1) gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly (0.10.9-1ubuntu0.1) (0.10.10-1build1) liba52-0.7.4 (0.7.4-11ubuntu1) Same libavcodec51 (3:0.svn20080206-12ubuntu3) libavcodec52 (3:0.svn20090204-2ubuntu1) libavformat52 (3:0.svn20080206-12ubuntu3)(3:0.svn20090204-2ubuntu1) libavutil49 (3:0.svn20080206-12ubuntu3) (3:0.svn20090204-2ubuntu1) libdvdnav4 (4.1.2-3) (4.1.3-3) libdvdread3 (0.9.7-11ubuntu2) libdvdread4 (4.1.3-4ubuntu1) libgsm1 (1.0.12-1) Not installed libid3tag0 (0.15.1b-10) Same libmad0 (0.15.1b-3) (0.15.1b-4) libmpeg2-4 (0.4.1-3) Same libpostproc51 (3:0.svn20080206-12ubuntu3) (3:0.svn20090204-2ubuntu1) libsidplay1 (1.36.59-5) Same Not installed libswscale0 (3:0.svn20090204-2ubuntu1) I have tried installing libdvdcss2 and w2codecs from medibuntu but no success I have now installed xine and mplayer and selecting Totem Movie Player (Xine) after inserting DVD Video works OK. I've now overcome my problem but consider this is a new bug in 9.04 -- Totem movie player not playing DVD Video https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338321 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 338321] [NEW] Totem movie player not playing DVD Video
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem Jaunty Alpha 3, totem 2.25.91-Oubuntu3 1. How to replicate: Insert DVD Video 2. What should happen: Window opens asking you to choose application to launch - default "Open Movie Player". Click OK and Movie Player opens and runs the copyright notice. Select: Movie > Play Disc 'xxx...xxx'. 3.What happens: When you select: Movie > Play Disc 'xxx...xxx' an error message is shown "Totem cannot play this type of media (DVD) because it does not have the appropriate plugins to be able to read from the disc. Please install the necessary plugins and restart Totem to be able to play this media." Notes: 1. Selecting Edit > Plugins... > Coherence DLNA/UPnP Client gives the error "Unable to activate plugin Coherence DLNA/UPnP Client". (If this is relevant). 2. Reinstalling totem-plugins, installing LibMPEG3 and totem-xine did not solve the problem.
