[Bug 1545542] Re: Enable arm64 emulation of removed ARMv7 instructions

2016-02-25 Thread Ryan Tucker
As the original impetus for this bug report: I cannot personally verify
that this solves the original problem
(https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/285505) as it
manifests itself on the Launchpad build farm and I do not have necessary
hardware to reproduce this independently.

Latest attempt is https://launchpadlibrarian.net/242901620
/buildlog_ubuntu-precise-
armhf.bladerf_2016.01-rc1+1SNAPSHOT20160225213708-git61c3b57~precise_BUILDING.txt.gz
... note presence of "Illegal instruction" within the log, and the
kernel version of 4.2.0-30-generic on aarch64.

[Bug 774452] [NEW] php-pear: pecl install reports Call to undefined method PEAR::raiseErro()

2011-04-30 Thread Ryan Tucker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php-pear

Greetings...

When trying to install PECL packages via pecl, I get the following
error:

# pecl install uploadprogress
Fatal error: Call to undefined method PEAR::raiseErro() in
/usr/share/php/PEAR/REST.php on line 165

Likewise on a search:

# pecl search uploadprogress
The value of config option cache_dir (/tmp/pear/cache) is not a directory and
attempts to create the directory failed.

The behavior matches Debian bug #619307, so I suppose the fix may be
similar: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=619307 ...
also, mkdir /tmp/pear/cache did work around the issue.

Ubuntu version: Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS
php-pear package version: 5.3.2-1ubuntu4.8

Thanks! -rt

[Bug 718334] [NEW] ACPI: Battery charge rate reported as a signed int but displayed as an unsigned int

2011-02-13 Thread Ryan Tucker
Public bug reported:

Greetings...

The battery charge rate on a System76 Starling netbook reports a
plausible value when discharging, but it reports a very high value when
charging:

$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state
present: yes
capacity state: ok
charging state: discharging
present rate:1210 mA
remaining capacity: 4256 mAh
present voltage: 12241 mV
$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state
present: yes
capacity state: ok
charging state: charging
present rate:64785 mA
remaining capacity: 4117 mAh
present voltage: 12284 mV

This appears to be due to my netbook's ACPI faeries reporting the
current from the battery as a signed int (discharge = positive, charge =
negative). I have worked around this by adding my vendor to the
acpi_battery_quirks() function in drivers/acpi/battery.c, but have since
lost the patch and can't remember what I used for dmi_name_in_vendors().

Attached is a tarball of /proc/acpi in all three states
(charged/charging/discharging). Thanks! -rt

Steps to reproduce:
1) Unplug AC power.
2) Wander off for awhile.
3) Replug AC power.
4) Look at present rate.
5) Compute power dissipated by 65 amperes at ~12 volts; observe that battery is
not actually on fire.

[Bug 492322] Re: Recently-allocated IP addresses not known by whois

2009-12-27 Thread Ryan Tucker
Upon further review, I also needed to copy over the make_*.pl scripts as
well... the _list files use some shorthand here and there. Since that's
about half of the package, I've built a PPA with the lucid
(4.7.36ubuntu3) whois compiled under hardy, and it's working well so
far.

2009-12-24 Thread Ryan Tucker
Attached is a diff, created by copying *_list from 4.7.36ubuntu3 (lucid)
to the 4.7.24 (hardy) tree. The format looks the same and there were no
real surprises that I saw. I'm not entirely sure how to get from here
to an SRU, but applying this then running make produces a binary that
fixes this and other lingering problems.

[Bug 493304] [NEW] dahdi compilation requires gawk, which is not a dependency of the package

2009-12-06 Thread Ryan Tucker
Public bug reported:

The dahdi installation requires a DKMS compilation, which dies on a make
error:

Installing gawk then re-running module-assistant auto-install dahdi
appears to fix the problem. I would recommend adding gawk as a
dependency.

[Bug 454410] Re: Unable to connect to/log into Ubuntu One via applet

Greetings!

Here's what I get:

org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name

Note that I don't use NetworkManager here... it's a desktop with a
static LAN IP, so the network configuration is set through the normal
/etc/network/interfaces method. I would be willing to try enabling
NetworkManager if it promises not to break things :-)

[Bug 457701] [NEW] tracker continually indexes and re-indexes files

2009-10-21 Thread Ryan Tucker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tracker

Since upgrading from jaunty to karmic beta, Tracker (active and running
by default now) seems to be continually re-indexing frantically. It's
not stuck (the number of files indexed keeps going up and the elapsed
time keeps going down), but it gets to the end and starts all over
again. There is nothing particularly pitfallish in my home directory
that I know of, but I do have ~120,000 files in there (according to the
Tracker icon's tooltip).

[Bug 450795] Re: trackerd causes the death of pdftotext and odt2txt processes with signal 24

2009-10-18 Thread Ryan Tucker
C isn't my native language, so I haven't had much luck reading the
source code for the answer. However, I suspect it's either hardcoded
within tracker or derived from some other setting, then applied to
processes it spawns to do particular functions (like pdftotext).
Someone who is more familiar with tracker and how it interfaces with
helper applications would be able to verify this, however.

[Bug 450795] Re: trackerd causes the death of pdftotext and odt2txt processes with signal 24

2009-10-17 Thread Ryan Tucker
This is appearing as a number of apport'd bugs in poppler, of the form
pdftotext crashed with signal 24 in something(). On my system, it is
appearing as a crash notification for pdftotext a short time after each
boot/login, since upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 yesterday.

Setting a CPU limit is a good thing for this function, but something
along the chain should handle the abnormal termination more gracefully,
without involving apport.

[Bug 188973] Re: printing pdf causes abnormally large job

2009-10-17 Thread Ryan Tucker
I have run into this problem with LyX-generated PDF files of 5-6 pages,
with some amount of math and graphics; given that the example document
is rather TeXish, I wonder if there's a connection...

Using karmic:
evince 2.28.0-0ubuntu5: 20350k
epdfview 0.1.7-2: 6961k

Still beefy, but now I have epdfview installed and can use that as a
workaround :-)

[Bug 453605] [NEW] vfat removable media defaults to world-readable files

2009-10-16 Thread Ryan Tucker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: devicekit-disks

Greetings!

After upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10, mounting removable USB media (e.g. a
thumbdrive) from Nautilus defaults the umask/fmask such that all of the
files are 0755 (world readable/executable). While the dmask is set such
that directories themselves are 0700, this does trip out software that
is paranoid about security (e.g. ssh-add, for a private key stored on a
thumbdrive).

Ideally, the umask should set the files to 0600 or 0700 by default.
Even better, there should be an easy way to configure this (perhaps
through the existing gconf system, which has
/system/storage/default_options/vfat/mount_options ?).

[Bug 376128] Re: ftdi_sio doesnt work propertly

2009-09-03 Thread Ryan Tucker
So far, things are looking good with this kernel and my FT232RL. I will
advise if the problem doesn't stay fixed :-)

Thanks!

[Bug 353024] Re: build zaptel against kernel 2.6.28

2009-08-03 Thread Ryan Tucker
I can reproduce the original bug on my freshly-installed 9.04 with
2.6.28-14-server kernel, and I can also confirm that the debs from
Darik's PPA resolve the issue.

[Bug 369471] Re: libssl.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: EVP_idea_cbc

2009-07-05 Thread Ryan Tucker
Same deal here:

libssl.so.0.9.8.removed-by-rtucker-lp369471

And it's good now... googleearth Version: 5.0.11733.9347+0.5.4.1-1.
Fascinating :-) -rt

[Bug 354761] [NEW] Scanning in lineart mode slow, following upgrade to Jaunty

2009-04-03 Thread Ryan Tucker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xsane

After upgrading from 8.10 to 9.04, scanning with xsane in lineart mode
became considerably slower. Previously, it would scan an entire page in
one shot without issue; now, it pauses for a long time right after
scanning starts and then pauses a few more times throughout the scan. I
estimate it took about ~25 seconds or so before the upgrade. Now, it's
in the 55-60 second range.

During the pauses (and indeed, throughout the entire process), xsane's
CPU usage approaches 100%. This leads me to believe it's something on
xsane's end. I typically use Multipage mode with Flatbed/Lineart/200
(to create PDF files). In either Color or Grey, the scanning process is
much faster, although there are still a couple brief pauses in there.

Description:Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)

rtuc...@arrogant-bastard:~$ scanimage -L

Any pointers or information to gather would be appreciated. Thanks!
