[Bug 902548] Re: apt: add option to compress files in /var/lib/apt/lists

2017-09-11 Thread SIDDHARTH
Though this is not a bug,i like this idea as it could save some
diskspace. I once had 700 mb of database cache as I never knew that with
every update i.e "sudo apt update",the database would get updated and
sync and just dump the new one.Never ever the old and not needed would
still exist as memory hog. Though now days I clean the cache aka "sudo
apt clean" every week.

The process could be like apt first gets the new update, then as soon as
it reaches 99% it compress the copy in a file named apt_[date:time].zip.
Then it would perform any additional task if required. When every thing
is over it would remove the uncompressed files(flat file).

[Bug 1418777] Re: cannot connect to WPA and WPA-2 enterprise network

2017-09-11 Thread SIDDHARTH
The problem as I have faced earlier is due to unsupported protocols in
the earlier version though now you can simply connect to it. Make sure
your device is registered with your campus as their server checks all
the connection mac address to connect and authorize the user. Chances
are you didnt do this. They will provide you with your user name and
password needed to login to their networks.

[Bug 1590574] [NEW] QAudioRecorder won't continue recording if running in background or if the device is suspended

2016-06-08 Thread Siddharth Williamson
Public bug reported:

Recording audio (with my Nexus 4) on Ubuntu Touch does not work after
the app has been sent to background (i.e., another app was opened or
switched to) or the device has been suspended. It seems that in both
cases the recording is paused and simply continued once the app regained
focus.

Expected behavior would be for the app to continue recording audio even
after it lost focus.

[Bug 1220426] Re: [nvidia-prime]Freeze while using touchpad

2015-03-14 Thread Siddharth
Same problem here. Laptop freezes randomly when using the Nvidia card as
primary. Problem can be rectified by Ctrl+Alt+F1 and Ctrl+Alt+F7 combo.
But it's so annoying since this process takes about a minute for the
display o come back. I have switched to the Inbuilt Intel graphics due
to this issue. Hopefully there will be fix out soon

2012-11-06 Thread Jay Siddharth
hi Ramond,
I am attaching the copy of the alsa report when i restarted the system and
ran it.

however it does not give an output when the system comes from
hibernation/sleep and shows the reported bug about null sound output.

Kind regards
and thank you for your time.

2012-11-06 Thread Jay Siddharth
hi
I am not sure how to go about getting the outputs..could you please help me
with this.

mute the sound and put the laptop the sleep?hibernate and upon wakeup, the
output is permanantly muted untill a system restart.

[Bug 904763] [NEW] Unable to build tree for armel

2011-12-15 Thread Siddharth Heroor
Public bug reported:

tree does not build for armel and fails with -

gcc -g -Wall -fomit-frame-pointer -DLINUX -D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE
-D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -O2 -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -c -o tree.o tree.c

However, if I change rules for CFLAGS as

-D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=32
then it builds fine and runs.

[Bug 892840] Re: Media players crash Banshee in Ubuntu 11.10

2011-11-20 Thread Jay Siddharth
Problem started after music library from a NTFS mount was added, the software
became non-responsive and thus had to be killed.
Since then the banshee player does not lauch, so using Rhythmbox instead, but
that gives issues too.

[Bug 644909] [NEW] login screen freezes

2010-09-21 Thread Siddharth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When I am presented with the Ubuntu Login Screen after a boot, and if I
do not select which user to login with, and enter the password
immediately, then the login screen freezes and all keyboard controls
stop working.

Sometimes the screen freeze is silent, and sometimes pressing any key on
keyboard makes the Ubuntu sound go in loops.

The only way out is to shut down the power supply and reboot.

This bug is similar to other "F-Spot Crash" event logged already.
However, I tried running F-Spot from console, and found errors I have

[Bug 367307] [NEW] network manager reporting

2009-04-26 Thread Siddharth Moghe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

hi,

i have a very stupid looking problem, the network manager wouldn't
detect the wireless networks that is there at home. Also the icon shows
up with a red cross even when there is proper Ethernet connectivity on
it.

When i first loaded Jaunty, i was seeing two wireless networks as
expected and i connected through pppoe as i usually do on windows, but
on subsequent reloads - the network manager stopped detecting the
wireless networks at home and even when there was a ip address assigned
to the ethernet card, the network manager would report it with a red
cross, but ifconfig from cli would show me the assigned ip address .

how do i see the networks with the help of network manager

Here is the output of some of the commands that could help

and no i am not running compiz because of the above issues. I used to
run compiz on hardy and eft, i did not face any issues with it on the
earlier releases. Everything used to work as expected. Including compiz

[Bug 312367] Re: Xfce Desktop Manager + Display Issues

2009-01-01 Thread Siddharth Moghe
well, all this works when the desktop manager is working as expected -
which more often than not, it doesnt. I have added xfdesktop in the auto
start applications, but still it doesn't work,

there is no wallpaper display, I have to add it everytime - explicitly.
Sometimes the background is blue, icons come up after the display is set to
allow xfce to manage desktop

Once the desktop and icons are visible - everything else works as
normal.

[Bug 312367] Re: Xfce Desktop Manager + Display Issues

2008-12-31 Thread Siddharth Moghe
does it have anything to do with my xorg.conf ? I havent modified it,
but my display driver is set to the proprietay ati fglrx drivers (
automatically installed the proprietary ati drivers ). When playing
around with compiz on herdy and eft, it occured to me that resotring
this file set my display issues right many a times.

I have installed xubuntu and not xfce separately.

There is a check mark for allow xfce to manage the desktop ( i have to manually
do this whenever i encounter a blank screen )
There is a checkmark on show image, but as i said - have to do this manually
when the above thing doesnt appear.
Once i follow step one, things appear ok

[Bug 312367] Re: Xfce Desktop Manager + Display Issues

2008-12-31 Thread Siddharth Moghe
** Description changed:

  Hi,

i have upgraded to the Intrepid Ibex of late and i am facing constant

settings and start it
  3. even when the explicit start is issued, the screen blanks out

auto mounts

This is what i have tried
  +
  1. added xfce-desktop and xfce manager in auto start applications
  2. tinkered with fstab for auto mount

  Sporadic behavior noticed.
  +++
When i first upgraded to 8.10, the kernel version was 2.6.x.x.7 , on an
update it turned 2.6.x.x.9. I had copied the files in /var/cache/apt/archives
to another folder on my external hard drive so as to keep a copy of the updates
in case the OS crashes due to some reason. I then install grub-splashimages
and startupmanager and installed a grub image to the system. I cross checked if
the image was applied in the /boot/grub/menu.lst file and reloaded. I did
comment out the earlier versions of the kernel available on the system before
reloading it

  Observed Behavior
  +
Except for the windows option, all other options when selected would bring me
back to the grub again. I dint know why this happened, i coudnt edit the
command line either because i had no idea what went wrong with it.

[Bug 267913] Re: hda-intel: IRQ timing workaround is activated for card #0. Suggest a bigger bdl_pos_adj

2008-11-18 Thread Siddharth Seth
Hi

I am using Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li1705 laptop with VT8237A based
chipset. I cannot get from external speakers when i plug them in to the
laptop. Alsamixer controls are NOT muted.

I am currently using 2.6.24-21-generic and have Ubuntu 8.06 LTS installed on my
laptop. By default i donot see the "Headphone" control in alsa-mixer and only
the laptop's internal speakers work. I followed the procedure listed in
(http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-556217.html).
and managed to get the "headphones" control in alsamixer. and could get the
sound by plugging in external speakers. But after reboot I can no longer get
the sound from external speakers, but the internal speakers work as usual.

Output of aplay -l

 List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices
card 0: VT82xx [HDA VIA VT82xx], device 0: VT1708 Analog [VT1708 Analog]
  Subdevices: 2/2
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
  Subdevice #1: subdevice #1

** The subdevices section is funny since there should be just one
subdevice and not 2

Output of dmesg | grep hda

[ 86.304650] hda-intel: IRQ timing workaround is activated for card
#0. Suggest a bigger bdl_pos_adj.

I can confirm that the same problem occurs for 2.6.24-16-generic also. I
was using Edgy before and had to use the same trick as in the above link
to get the sound to work on it but never got this problem.
