[Bug 1853758] [NEW] Forcing incompatible Nvidia drivers

2019-11-24 Thread Diggy Smitty
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 18.0.4.3 and 19.10, The driver installer keeps forcing
incompatible drivers for my Nvidia GPU. If I add the PPA it only gives
me the incompatible drivers. My Nvidia Card is a GTX 770m which requires
the 418 driver. Even if I install 18.0.4.2 and 19.04 Ubuntu then
upgrade, the system automatically installs the 430 drivers over the 418
one and the 430 drivers do not work at all with all cards. Driver number
is not the same as being the newest driver, the 418 drivers are
constantly being updated and that's the newest for my GPU. Please fix
this mess.

[Bug 300464] [NEW] wine programs can't associate with firefox.

2008-11-20 Thread smitty
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

This problem is similar to others mentioned, but this only affects wine with
firefox. I'm posting it in both forums because who knows which is the problem?
If I try to open a file from the Internet to use a specific wine program
Firefox doesn't recognize the extension. This has happened with STEAM and the
(steam) extension. http://cdn.steampowered.com/download/SteamInstall.msi It
also used to happens with curseui and the psyn: prefix.
http://wow.curse.com/client/ I'd assume it happens with all program
associations in wine. I'm also posting this under wine errors.
1) I'm using Ubuntu Irritating Ibex 8.10 2a) Firefox
3.0.4+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.1
2b) 1.1.8~winehq0~ubuntu~8.10-0ubuntu1 3)I'm expecting to open a file
from a site especially designed for the program I'm using and have the program
open it. Programs I've used in wine include Curseui and Steam see above
4) got an error message Firefox doesn't know how to open this address,
because the protocol (steam) isn't associated with any program.

I no youtube video with gnash installed. I remove it and oila' it works.
I'm using the Hardy heron ver of ubuntu. Was using 0.8.2-0ubuntu3.

[Bug 22336] Re: CPU overheats during high usage throttling not supported

2007-10-17 Thread SMiTTY
I fully agree with the previous commentsThis bug has been open for WAY too
long with no movement.
Frankly the comments to check your fans/vents/etc has been played out. There
are too many people having this issue and we can't all have dirty boxes.

When are the developers going to step up and give this bug some
attention?

I really like Ubuntu, but as people have pointed out...It's not happening on
other distro's and not happening under windows.
So what gives? Do we all change away from Ubuntu?

BTW : I'm running on an HP dv8000

Let me know if I can give any debug info so we can squash this.

[Bug 22336] Re: CPU overheats during high usage throttling not supported

2007-05-04 Thread SMiTTY
Guess I'll chime in as wellI too am seeing this overheat problem
with Feisty. Oddly I didn't see this behavior under Edgy *shrug*

As soon as I upgraded to 7.04 (which the upgrade didn't work and ended
up doing a fresh install), I noticed the laptop running hotter and have
had it crash on me a few times. Basically the screen would get
pixelated, and everything but the mouse would lock up, followed by a
power-off.

I have a HP Pavilion dv8235nr. Any progress or fixes on this? It does
boggle me that 6.10 didn't show this.

Also, of note, the CPU's should have a max of 1.66GHz, though 7.04
limits it to 1.00GHz

Let me know if I should provide any more info.

Thanks

 - Mike
