[Bug 458031] [NEW] USB devices unavailable in VirtualBox (Windows XP guest)

2009-10-22 Thread Samuel Wehrli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

1. ubuntu 9.10
2. virtualbox-ose: 3.0.8-dfsg-1ubuntu1
3./4.
I use a Windows XP guest which i originally created on ubuntu 9.4

Under ubuntu 9.10 everything is running fine. I can use CDROM und share folders
with host. Only USB is not working:
- I don't have USB Devices options in the Settings (when guest is powered off)
- In the machine Window under Devices -> USB Devices it says 'no available
devices'

I followed these instructions WITHOUT success (playing with groups and
adding a line in fstab): http://ubuntuguide.net/enable-virtualbox-
virtual-machinesguests-usb-support

Doing this i observed the following curious things:
- there was NO group vboxusers
- neither was there a group with 'usb' in the name

[Bug 458010] [NEW] Changing vbr-quality for mp3 ripping has no effect

2009-10-22 Thread Samuel Wehrli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse

1. Ubuntu 9.10
2. gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse: 0.10.12-0ubuntu1
3./4.
In order to rip cd's to mp3 with rhythmbox i installed
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse

then I wanted to change the variable bit for audio cd ripping. the
default profile for mp3 (as in gnome-audio-profiles-properties) is

audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc mode=0 vbr-
quality=6 ! id3v2mux

i changed vbr-quality to 4 in order to have a higher bit rate. however,
this had NO effect on the created files: the size and bitrate (audio
properties) were the same as for vbr-quality = 6. restarting ubuntu
didn't help.
