[Bug 1886658] Re: libsnmp-perl depends on wrong perl version

2020-07-10 Thread Leif Sawyer
Verified that the problem is in the version depends by
downloading the deb pkg and doing the following:

$ dpkg-deb --raw-extract ../libsnmp-perl_5.8+dfsg-2ubuntu2.1_amd64.deb .
$ sed -i.bak 's/Depends: perl (>= 5.30.0-9ubuntu0.1)/Depends: perl (>=
5.30.0)/;' DEBIAN/control
$ dpkg-deb --build . ../libsnmp-perl.deb
$ sudo dpkg -i ../libsnmp-perl.deb

and the modified package installed correctly.

(of course, this breaks other depends, so it's just validating this one
package)

[Bug 1797275] Re: libgtk-3-bin v. 3.22.30-1ubuntu1: Binary "gtk-query-immodules-3.0" is absent.

2018-10-12 Thread S. Randall Sawyer
Thank you, Sebastian!

That worked.

I am accustomed to using "." in order to run an executable which is not
locatable in PATH.

Having experimented some by writing a trivial non-PATH executable script
and calling it both with and without the preceding ".", I have learned
something new about shell syntax. I have been holding on to an
assumption which does not serve me, and which now I relinquish.

This issue - mine, not yours - is resolved.

Thank you again for your time and attention.

[Bug 1797536] [NEW] libgtk-3-0:i386: gtk-query-immodules-3.0 not executable

2018-10-12 Thread S. Randall Sawyer

Public bug reported:

The gtk-3 utility "gtk-query-immodules-3.0" is installed under the
libdir; however, it is not executable. It is thus unusable as described
in the man page provided via package "libgtk-3-bin".

[Bug 1797275] Re: libgtk-3-bin v. 3.22.30-1ubuntu1: Binary "gtk-query-immodules-3.0" is absent.

2018-10-11 Thread S. Randall Sawyer
Thank you, Sebastian!

Yes, I have found the file per your instructions:

 |$ dpkg -S gtk-query-immodules-3.0
 |libgtk-3-doc: /usr/share/doc/libgtk-3-doc/gtk3/gtk-query-immodules-3.0.html
 |libgtk-3-0:i386: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgtk-3-0/gtk-query-immodules-3.0
 |libgtk-3-bin: /usr/share/man/man1/gtk-query-immodules-3.0.1.gz

However, if I attempt to execute it, I get the following error message:

 |$ . /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgtk-3-0/gtk-query-immodules-3.0
 |bash: .: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgtk-3-0/gtk-query-immodules-3.0: cannot
execute binary file

I thought I ought to inspect the file further:

 |$ ls -l /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgtk-3-0/gtk-query-immodules-3.0
 |-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 13672 Apr 16 20:23

BuildID[sha1]=b7c03cbac4882fe78ea6f0b92d1dc98dbeb13017, stripped

Thus, my system does not in fact contain an executable utility named
"gtk-query-immodules-3.0".

Thanks again for any further assistance and/or explanation.

Confirmed that the patch listed above does not solve the full extent of
the problem.

It does allow the module to build, but then any use of the network will cause
the kernel to OOPS.
Only a hard-power-cycle will restore access to the system, provided you boot
into single-user mode to remove the module prior to system usage.

Perk GregKH, there is a quirks table that needs to have the machine

[Bug 621899] Re: package bcmwl-kernel-source 5.60.48.36 bdcom-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: bcmwl kernel module failed to build

2010-08-22 Thread Ryan Sawyer
Aghhh I figured it out.

As usual, after installing the headers I had to cd into the "include"
folder inside the installed headers folder, and then copy over the
contents of "generated" to "linux"

$ cd /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.34.5/include
$ sudo cp -r generated/* linux/

I have had to do this every time I have compiled my own kernel or
installed a kernel from .deb's. Can anyone explain why?

[Bug 580287] Re: OpenJDK for Eclipse in Lucid has SIGSEGV on Startup

2010-06-08 Thread Sawyer Pangborn
I had the same issue, and determined that if Firefox 3.7 from the
mozilla-daily PPA is installed, it causes issues. I removed Firefox 3.7
and everything goes back to normal. This could be related to having
multiple xulrunner versions installed that are conflicting.

Firefox 3.7 ships with xulrunner-1.9.3, where Eclipse uses
xulrunner-1.9.2.

It sucks that I can't use Firefox 3.7 for testing, but at least I have a
stable development environment now.

[Bug 476437] Re: Balance unable to start ("setsockopt(IPV6_V6ONLY=0): Protocol not available)

2010-06-01 Thread Craig Sawyer
This problem isn't fixed in the latest versions, the change appears that
balance now needs IPv6 addresses if you specify IP addresses (versus
host names). to fix this problem for v4 addresses add ::: to the
beginning of your address. for example:

balance -b 192.168.1.2 631 spiffycupshost

(which gives you this error)
should now become:
balance -b :::192.168.1.2 631 spiffycupshost

and the error will go away.

what I expected to happen is see a list of users. (I only use w as an

if I ssh in from remote then sudo works just fine, i.e. this only
happens while running under gnome (or kde).

[Bug 579639] [NEW] No debug package.

2010-05-12 Thread Craig Sawyer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libibus-qt1

I'm trying to debug a pyqt application and there are no debugging
symbols (output from gdb):

Reading symbols from /usr/lib/qt4/plugins/inputmethods/libqtim-ibus.so...(no
debugging symbols found)...done.
Reading symbols from /usr/lib/libibus-qt.so.1...(no debugging symbols
found)...done.

There doesn't seem to be a -dbg package. I don't know how to go about
creating a -dbg package, so I'm filing a bug report.

Requested information:
1)
Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

2)
