[Bug 1214722] [NEW] open-vm-dkms 2011.12.20-562307-0ubuntu1: open-vm-tools kernel module failed to build [error: implicit declaration of function ‘d_alloc_root’] (bug 100344 also affects precise)

2013-08-20 Thread Shaddy Baddah
Public bug reported:

As per reported in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/open-vm-
tools/+bug/1000344, this also affects Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS (Precise
Pangolin).

If I understand the LTS policy correctly, this should be fixed for
precise. As otherwise, the implication is that LTS users should upgrade
off of the LTS release if they want a working package.

I understand if this is considered a duplicate bug. However, as it
describe the problem for precise/LTS, and on an assumption that the "Fix
Released" status has moved anyone on, I'm taking that chance.

This is still broken in LTS. I don't know the specific policies, but I
assumed LTS would get these type of fixes?

[Bug 901054] [NEW] branch over https tries POST on http

2011-12-06 Thread Shaddy Baddah
Public bug reported:

I am behind a firewall whereby I can punch through for https, and then
have to use a finicky windows domain integrated proxy for http. I elect
not to use that proxy as much as possible, and try to "prefer" https
when it is availab.e

I have tried to do this with a bzr branch, and have been met with this
error:

ubuntu:~/workarea$ bzr branch --verbose
https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/binutils/pkg-ubuntu
binutils-pkg-ubuntu
bzr: ERROR: Connection error: while sending POST
/~ubuntu-core-dev/binutils/pkg-ubuntu/.bzr/smart: [Errno 110] Connection timed
out

strace shows that there was an attempt to connect to the http, instead
of the https server:

afro-ubuntu:~$ sudo strace -fp 8432
Process 8432 attached - interrupt to quit
connect(6, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(80),
sin_addr=inet_addr("91.189.90.11")}, 16^C
Process 8432 detached

To me this is a bug. I've specified a https method, so I would expect
bzr not to stray. I don't have an ftp methoded URL to try, but I wonder
if this would happen for ftp as well.

[Bug 722443] [NEW] post-install incorrectly assumes full internet access

2011-02-20 Thread Shaddy Baddah
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adobe-flashplugin

I have what I would call a non-trivial networking setup of my maverick
install, because of my office firewall setup. I use approx, and when at
work, I target ftp servers through my approx.conf config.

I've just tried to do an apt-get upgrade, and it is now stalled on
installing/upgrading flashplugin-installer. The (I assume) post-install
script is seemingly trying to wget a file named
flashplugin_10.2.152.27.orig.tar.gz, And as you can see, as my install
is not configured for http:

Setting up flashplugin-installer (10.2.152.27ubuntu0.10.10.1) ...

Giving up.

download failed
The Flash plugin is NOT installed.

Besides the annoyance of this installer breaking out of the apt
installation system (usually one should safely assume that all
dependencies are listed on the initial apt command, and that it is a
complete list of what will be downloaded), I could not ctrl-c the
install.

And as you can see, it took more than an hour for the wget to finally
give up and let my much larger, and more important, apt-get upgrade
continue.

Please consider another method to this install. As I recall, there are
different prompt levels on a package install. Wouldn't it be better to
prompt the user to give them the choice of a "web pull", and two
options, one to a command-line to allow for manual download of the file,
and the other to prompt for the location of the downloaded file.

Thanks,
Shaddy

[Bug 237807] Re: Appears to be no way to uninstall extensions from within firefox

2008-09-21 Thread Shaddy Baddah
'Closing bug report until confirmed that he still sees this issue as he
hasnt updated the info in about a year.'

Are serious? About a year? I reported this in June this year, a mere
three months ago. I'll jot that down to a honest mistake.

I have tested this against Hardy. I am able to uninstall the extension
from the regular Firefox Add-on window now. However, I still cannot just
un-tick the package from the ubufox dialog, to uninstall.

So whilst not a serious problem, there is an inconsistency in that I
install the extension via the ubufox dialog, but uninstall via the
Firefox Add-on dialog.

[Bug 237807] [NEW] Appears to be no way to uninstall extensions from within firefox

2008-06-05 Thread Shaddy Baddah
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubufox

I successfully installed mozilla-bookmarksftp by using the "Get Ubuntu
Addons" link from with Firefox Add-ons window. And the subsequent
Install/Remove Extensions window that opened up from that link. I used
the add-on successfully a number of times (which of course, included
firefox restarts).

I then wanted to uninstall mozilla-bookmarksftp from the same Firefox
Add-ons window. However, the Uninstall button is greyed out. So, I tried
to Uninstall it via the same Install/Remove Extensions window. However,
mozilla-bookmarksftp no longer appears at all in that list of
extensions.

As I read it that the "Get Ubuntu Addons" functionality is provided by
ubufox, I believe it to be a bug that you cannot install via the
Install/Remove Extensions window.
