[Bug 1817308] Re: GhostScript Update causes Blue Background

2019-02-22 Thread Sim Inthavong
I have an HP Officejet 8600 Pro, running Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS, with Kernel
4.15.0-45 (I do believe that 18.04.2 LTS is suppose to install 4.18, but
I think I read somewhere that for anyone running VirtualBox the new
Kernel won't install? I could be wrong on this, but if am correct I
assume at some point Canonical will correct this as well. At first I
thought it was a driver (HPLIP 3.19.1) issue, so I uninstalled and
reinstalled. Then I loaded up Windows i VirtualBox and did a print from
there, no issue at all. And I also attempted to diagnose the issue on
the printer directly and there didn't seem to be any issue either. I
even did a factory reset on the printer. Then when I came across this
forum, just about everyone seem to mention that the Ghostscript update
seem to be the culprit. So I downloaded the source for Ghostscript 9.26,
compiled and installed it. The issue now seems resolved! So there is no
need to revert to an older version of Ghostscript, just compile and
install it. Canonical will probably correct the issue in a future update
as well.

Xubuntu 18.04

I can't log in! Everytime I enter password, screen becomes blue and
freezes, there is only a mouse pointer and blank screen. Then I press
Ctrl-Alt-Del, go to enter screen, type passwrd again and voila,
everything works! Very annoying bug.

I believe there was a similar problem in gdm and they fixed it, pls fix

[Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)

2018-05-02 Thread Sum Sim
I have a kinda similar problem on xubuntu 18.04. And had that problem on
xubuntu 16.04.

After I type the password, there is only desktop wallpaper and mouse
pointer (it moves). Then I press Ctr-Alt-Del and go back to password
screen again (screen resolution changes to low), then I enter password
and suddenly all works, everything is upsie-daisy.

I believe it somehow connected to nvidia drivers. Under nvidia-384 it
problem doesn't existed, but on nvidia-390 and 396 it does.

[Bug 1547463] Re: openvswitch-dpdk starting with DPDK_OPTS parameter

2016-02-19 Thread Janghoon-Paul Sim
This issue happens since DPDK_OPTS parameter is not forwarded to ovs-
ctl.

To make it working,
/etc/init/openvswitch-switch.conf should be modified like the following so that
DPDK_OPTS parameter can be forwarded to ovs-ctl

if test X"$FORCE_COREFILES" != X; then
set "$@" --force-corefiles="$FORCE_COREFILES"

[Bug 1547463] [NEW] openvswitch-dpdk starting with DPDK_OPTS parameter

2016-02-19 Thread Janghoon-Paul Sim
Public bug reported:

To start OpenvSwitch in DPDK mode,
Users can use parameter DPDK_OPTS in /etc/default/openvswitch-switch.
However, OpenvSwitch-dpdk doesn't start although DPDK_OPTS parameter is
uncomment.
For example,
# DPDK options - see /usr/share/doc/openvswitch-common/INSTALL.DPDK.md.gz

DPDK_OPTS='--dpdk -c 0x1 -n 4'

What I did was,

#install openvswitch-dpdk package
$sudo apt-get install openvswitch-switch-dpdk

#enable hugepage
on /etc/default/grub
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="transparent_hugepage=never hugepagesz=1G hugepages=4
default_hugepagesz=1G"
$sudo update-grub
$sudo reboot

#mount hugepage
$sudo mount -t hugetlbfs -o pagesize=1G none /dev/hugepages

# DPDK setup
$sudo modprobe uio_pci_generic
$sudo dpdk_nic_bind --bind=uio_pci_generic p1p1

#uncomment DPDK_OPTS on /etc/default/openvswitch-switch
DPDK_OPTS='--dpdk -c 0x1 -n 4'

# update alternatives ovs-vswitchd and start openvswitch
$sudo update-alternatives --set ovs-vswitchd
/usr/lib/openvswitch-switch-dpdk/ovs-vswitchd-dpdk
$sudo start openvswitch-switch

# check if openvswitch-dpdk enabled
ps -ef doesn't show ovs-vswitchd process running with --dpdk option.
Also, /var/log/openvswitch/ovs-ctl.log doesn't show any DPDK relevant message.

Package version :
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ dpkg -l | grep openvswitch

ii openvswitch-common 2.4.0-0ubuntu4~cloud0amd64
  Open vSwitch common components

ii openvswitch-switch 2.4.0-0ubuntu4~cloud0amd64
  Open vSwitch switch implementations

ii openvswitch-switch-dpdk 2.4.0-0ubuntu1~cloud0amd64
DPDK enabled Open vSwitch switch implementation

Hey,

This doesn't seem to be a version problem. Debian has exactly the same
packages and they work.

It seems like it's not liked to the libnis SO at all.

When i added the following patch to the package i was able to
successfully build the use the package

This patch adjusts the gcc argumnents in a very subtle way that seems to
fix the problem.

Before the patch:

 package is in experimental already

This requires a fair amount of work, which I cannot provide currently.

[Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2012-06-09 Thread Lawrence Sim
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 973096 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096

I also have Nvidia drivers, using an Intel i7 machine. Honestly
speaking, I see the potential in Ubuntu as a credible alternative to
Windows and would love to have dedicated Ubuntu machine because the user
experience is far better than with Windows. With virtualbox, I can have
access to Windows applications, however this is the only bug that is
stopping me from being a full convert to Linux / Ubuntu.

For me, I get logged out for no reason whatsoever. There does not seem
to be any observable pattern for this bug. The only constant variable is
that it happens when I'm 'doing stuff' -- Doing stuff means surfing the
web, doing work, etc It usually happens while surfing the web, as
that is what I usually do with Ubuntu.

And one thing I observe, when I leave the PC on so that a download can
finish overnight, then it does not log out automatically. Therefore the
only constant variable about this bug is that it only happens when the
machine is idle, but when you are actively doing stuff with the PC, it
happens.

There therefore appears to be no way to predict when the problem will
occur.

LTS???... Ridiculous!

PS: At boot ubuntu show:

Is this the cause?

However it is difficult to diagnose ...

as a workaround, try:

logrotate -f /etc/logrotate.d/rsyslog

this rotated my logfiles, but i had to manually restart rsyslog in order

logrotate rotates the /var/log/syslog file, and does not create a new one.

Prevent a crash when listing discovered printer devices in the new

Mac OS X systems with UTF-8 characters broadcasted via DNS-SD and
picked up by the local dnssd CUPS backend. This made setting up
print queues impossible whenthere was a Mac somewhere in the

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 274116 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274116

Just got the update installed for compiz 1:0.8.4-0ubuntu2 (karmic), I am
pleased to notify you that this fixed the import issues I was
experiencing and several behaviour anomalies I didn't report. As far as
I can tell from my testing, all modes work correctly on my HP Compac
Laptop which is an AMD64 system using NVIDIA graphics. I have performed
extensive testing on the animations and they work just as well as they
did in 9.04. Thanks guys for the awesome work. Ubuntu 9.10 ROCKS!!!
P.S. - I have been doing testing of the UNR - netbook stuff just for
fun on this system and showing off at work on what is coming. Folks are
excited. Again thanks.

but the resume hang the computer and a restart by ctrl-alt-del is necessary.

No,

It is not fixed. my initramfs has a rules.d directory.

The udev rule that runs watershed lvm lvchange -a y is not running
properly i guess. (probably because of /var/run missing)

if the udev rule for lvm is run by typing it manually watershed
complains about not able to create /var/run/watershed.

initramfs is missing the /var/run directory

after creating /var/run watershed runs succesfully

(i have not checked the PATH, but used fully qualified binary filename)

[Bug 302020] Re: totem playback of shoutcast stream is chirpy

2008-11-26 Thread Sim IJskes
The problem might be the same as seen on vlc:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vlc/+bug/302024

Basically it cannot detect an ICY server when behind a conforming http
proxy.

There is a fix for VLC in 'vlc master'.

[Bug 302024] Re: vlc playback of shoutcast stream is chirpy

2008-11-26 Thread Sim IJskes
It is not a true fix. The change makes sure that VLC does not request
the Icy-Metadata.

This is to make sure the streaming server replies without Icy-metadata.
Because if it does, the proxy changes the ICY 200 OK response into
HTTP/1.1 200 OK.

VLC thinks it is not an ICY stream, but the server does. The server
muxes icy-metadat into the stream, vlc does not demux this metadata and
feeds it directly to the mp3 decoder. mp3 decoder chirps and gets
confused.

Any suggestions? It is a bit to easy to point the finger directly at
