Re: [Bug 1972037] Re: Stack Overflow - gnome-control-center
Sebastian, Just turned off Xinerama (for a few minutes). For some reason, the system is unable to use both screens without Xinerama. Played with this a lot when I upgraded to 20.04 from 16.04 (worked nicely before upgrade). FWIW, cursor is a big X on second screen, but no background and no moving windows onto it. [Bug 1953199] [NEW] 0-byte files created in overlay filesystem
Public bug reported: Copied from https://lore.kernel.org/stable/CAMBWrQ=1mkxnmt_6jnqp_xxr7psvywpbjc6p1qcy9eny8rf...@mail.gmail.com/: A number of users have reported that under certain conditions using the overlay filesystem, copy_file_range() can unexpectedly create a 0-byte file. [0] This bug can cause significant problems because applications that copy files expect the target file to match the source immediately after the copy. After upgrading from Linux 5.4 to Linux 5.10, our Docker-based CI tests started failing due to this bug, since Ruby's IO.copy_stream uses this system call. We have worked around the problem by touching the target file before using it, but this shouldn't be necessary. Other projects, such as Rust, have added similar workarounds. [1] As discussed in the linux-fsdevel mailing list [2], the bug appears to be present in Linux 5.6 to 5.10, but not in Linux 5.11. We should be able to cherry-pick the following upstream patches to fix this. Could you cherry-pick them to 5.10.x stable? I've confirmed that these patches, applied from top to bottom to that branch, pass the reproduction test [3]: 82a763e61e2b601309d696d4fa514c77d64ee1be 9b91b6b019fda817eb52f728eb9c79b3579760bc The diffstat: fs/overlayfs/file.c | 59 +++ 1 file changed, 31 insertions(+), 28 deletions(-) Note that these patches do not pick cleanly into 5.6.x - 5.9.x stable. [Bug 1872527] Re: Clipboard doesn't work 100% of the time in Ubuntu 20.04 (in KVM guests)
Actually another scenario which is even worse now that I have experienced again today, is copy/paste is broken within libreoffice, on a VM. It gets to the point libreoffice hangs completely, and then the VM itself. Eventually the VM logs me right off. Logging back on, and launching libreoffice, all is well. In this scenario, best to have done prior saves in libreoffice. Never do the doc recovery. I believe this broken scenario is actually triggered by having tried to do copy/pastes from firefox on another VM to this VM. After this the instance on libreoffice is somewhat broken, progressing to the hang. [Bug 1872527] Re: Clipboard doesn't work 100% of the time in Ubuntu 20.04 (in KVM guests)
A general userland comment: Reading the above, I experience this among Centos VMs. It is very hard to reproduce for typical text copy/pastes involving bash terminals, text files, and spreadsheets (libre). However, it plagues me for copying from Firefox web pages. It is so bad that I often open up a simple text file on the copy-from VM to see if anything is being captured. In those cases, the paste usually does not paste anything. I realize that this is not a bug report, but maybe this scenario will help create a context for further debugging, that may provide a higher repro rate. This bug is very worth fixing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872527 Title: Clipboard doesn't work 100% of the time in Ubuntu 20.04 (in KVM guests) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/+bug/1872527/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1815384] [NEW] [Latitude 7490, Realtek ALC3246, Black Headphone Out, Front] Playback problem
Public bug reported: lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Release:18.04 I am not sure how to describe the problem. If i turn off my laptop with my headphones in, when it boots up (without removing the headphones at any times), then no sound is playing on any exits. Not on the laptop's speaker, neither on the headphones. I am a developer, and I think the issue it's that the hardware is trying to play the sound on the headphones (because you restrict playing on both the speakers and the headphones at once, without extra custom configurations), because playing on headphones is what the hardware remembers, but ubuntu forgets that between reboots and it's telling the hardware to play on speakers, which the hardware won't do. To fix the problem, i have to unplug my headphones and plug them back in. And sometimes that is annoying because some sounds may be too loud and i am in a meeting :) . Maybe in ubuntu, the audio port is being initialized with speakers at boot time, and it is not verifying the aux outputs for listeners, to initialize with that. Maybe this should be a new feature. The feature would be to scan the audio ports at boot time, to see if any auxiliary ports are found. Not sure if multiple can be found. Initialize with whatever state would be if those auxiliary ports where plugged in one at a time, and not found like this. The initial state should not always be the default audio port. Re: [Bug 1759391] Re: Another delicate failure with Ubuntu when trying to buy something
Thank you for digging into this problem. I think it still exists, in Firefox 63. Yesterday I was trying to buy some auto parts from a classic car dealer (Larry's Thunderbirds and Mustangs) and the same phenomenon happened. I could log it, choose the parts, fill out the information on shipping and credit card, but then when I went to hit the final CONTINUE button, nothing happened. No notice, no failure dialog box, no nothing. I immediately went over to my MacAir, and did the identical purchase, not one iota of difference, and the final CONTINUE button worked instantly and completed my sale. I have no idea why. On this man's website, there are many CONTINUE buttons, and they all work under Ubuntu/firefox except the last one. On the MacAir, I used Safari. I am sorry I cannot provide any more detailed information, but that is why I called it a 'delicate problem'. Best wishes. [Bug 1802585] [NEW] NFS v4.0: Stale data after file is renamed while another process has an open file handle
Public bug reported: NOTE: This bug has been fixed in the upstream mainline kernel via https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?h=be189f7e7f03de35887e5a85ddcf39b91b5d7fc1 and merged in the latest NFS client patches in https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?h=c7a2c49ea6c9eebbe44ff2c08b663b2905ee2c13. Here's my test: 1. On node A, create two different files on a shared NFS mount: "test1.txt" and "test2.txt". 2. On node B, continuously show the contents of the first file: "while true; do cat test1.txt; done" 3. On node B, run a process that keeps "test1.txt" open. For example, with Python, run: f = open('/nfs-mount/test1.txt', 'r') 4. Rename test2.txt via "mv -f test2.txt test1.txt" On node B, I see the contents of the original test1.txt indefinitely, even after I disabled attribute caching and the lookup cache. [Bug 1795242] Re: Digicert certificate is not included
I have reported this to Marktplaats.nl, suggesting they include the certificate in the chain that is being sent out by the server. (I wonder why DigiCert has not been able to convice Mozilla to include this certificate, yet they still sign certificates that are intended for public verification using this. And, to make matters worse, why most other browsers do seem to include the certificate by default or a least trust the certificate chain enough to load the pages.) Re: [Bug 1795242] Re: Digicert certificate is not included
Thanks, Seth, for looking into this. You're right; that certificate is indeed installed by default. I seem to have misstated the name of the certificate in my original bug report and post. It should have been the "DigiCert SHA2 Secure Server CA" certificate, which is the one I describe in the steps to resolve the problem. I apologize for having you look into the wrong certificate. Should the "DigiCert SHA2 Secure Server CA" be included in ca- certificates? A test site can be the static resources on https://www.marktplaats.nl, which is the largest second-hand market in the Netherlands. They use it for the static resources (not the main page, which is using a different certificate). A direct test URL might be https://s.marktplaats.com/z/dist/bower_components/gdpr-consent-banner/index.8e80894f.js, which is not trusted on a clean install. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1795242 Title: Digicert certificate is not included To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ca-certificates/+bug/1795242/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1759391] Re: Another delicate failure with Ubuntu when trying to buy something
Hi, Paul, thank you for looking at the bug. It only appears after you have gone all the way through the process of picking a train, wagon, seats, registering and so on, when it is time to give your credit card number. I was always logged into the site when I got this far, as much as I can remember. I thought it was bizarre that they would have a website problem right when they were about to get your money, and it wasn't bizarre because the website has no problem, which I found out when I used Windows. Something bizarre was in the Ubuntu Firefox thing that prevented the payment section from responding to my clicks. Best wishes on a very delicate bug. [Bug 1788989] [NEW] rapid and excesive resource use
Public bug reported: within minutes system is out of CPU cycles and Memory. After a few hours of no active use, but staying logged in with firefox active, disks are churning and not able to type, nor does cursor move. System is locked up, must power off and reboot. At times soon after reboot, I have found 9 firfox processes active, yet only two firefox widows are active, each with five tabs. Could it be that inactive tabs are still running, as if a user could see their content? Some news web sties are now poping up video windows that automatically start playing. Only the processes supporting the visible tab(s) should be active. All other processes should go to sleep by setting a lower process priority so they go dormant and are swapped out. Stop memory utilization from growing and growing and growing. Bloatware is bad. [Bug 1786610] [NEW] coudy / murky screens; not able to find how to correct this online via searchiing forums
Public bug reported: I have been researching and trying to fix this for months. I started on 16-04LTS but now am trying out 18-04LTS. No success with either version so I am filing a bug report. Firefox is chaing rrapidly. At some point people started observing this problme. Some people have been able to fix this problem on their own, I have not. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: firefox 61.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-29.31-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-29-generic x86_64 AdditionalInfo: I am certain this problem is a bug and not a new feature. This problem has existed since at least 16-04LTS. Since many others were reporting same I did not until now. I had hoped it was fixed in this new release. Have researched forums and found this to be a reoccuring problem, but not able to find FIX/workaround for my version of Firerfox. It seems Firefox configuration methods change faster than than the online how to I am finding. Yes I have lookied in the Ubutun formus too. Submitted by Stan Osborne . [Bug 1773535] Re: Delicate failure with Ubuntu when using Firebox email
I found another instance of the Firefox bug, this time with MemoryBank. After logging in, I asked to see my latest statement, and it came back with a message saying that the website had improper certificate and Firefox would not proceed no matter what. I retried multiple times and it did nothing different. I tried on my Macbook and the statement came up instantly. Both Ubuntu and Firefox have been updated with every notification. However, the automatic software updater from Ubuntu always ends with a negative notice about a problem. I have a hunch but no data that it does complete and the bug is in the notification. I have run apport and had it sent to you. Thanks for your hard work! [Bug 1757008] Re: bcmwl-kernel-source: bcmwl kernel module failed to build [error: implicit declaration of function ‘init_timer’]
@Sami: the compilation is done automatically by the installer. You can either plug in Ethernet or reboot and chose Advanced Ubuntu boot option, scroll down to the previous ver. of the Kernel (4.13) and boot with it normally to get the WiFi connection back. Then "See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed" - just a couple of steps that don't affect your overall system if you "Create the file /etc/apt/preferences.d /proposed-updates with this content:...". Then sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get install broadcom-sta-dkms/xenial-proposed. This should successfully compile for both 4.13 and 4.15 kernels. Then reboot normally and forget about this incident till the kernel testing flow breaks again next year or whenever. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1757008 Title: bcmwl-kernel-source: bcmwl kernel module failed to build [error: implicit declaration of function ‘init_timer’] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/1757008/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1245589] Re: Doesn't run, reports a zeitgeist/dbus error
This may be due to something I have changed in my heavily modified system rather than this bug? But it just recently started. I can however run it from the GUI menu, I just now tried to see. And It seems I no longer Have a zeitgeist directory so I suspect that is a good clue. I will fix mine, I just thought I should post this in case it helps someone. I looked through documentation as well as partman source (learned spares is 7th argument) and realized this is not a bug, just wrong syntax on your part. The spare has to be put in its own separate list, so just add a space instead of a # for your last drive/spare device(s) thereby separating it from the devices meant for the array, e.g.: ''' 1 2 1 ext4 / /dev/sda1#/dev/sdb1 /dev/sde1 ''' >From the Partman Wiki: Hope this helps whoever googles this next time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1006805 Title: RAID1 with spare preseed error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/preseed/+bug/1006805/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1685104] Re: Netflix returns error F7363-1260 as movie loads. Loading site is good
I wanted to add that I am seeing this problem - however, Netflix initially worked fine for about a month. My current Firefox version is 53.0.3 32-bit. I do not know if this is the version that was installed with Ubuntu Mate (16.04 LTS), or if I was updated to 53.0.3. (and if it was an update, I don't know when it occurred - I'm new at linux, and the logging I was able to find in Firefox did not show any updates). Netflix was working, I left the machine for a while and was logged out. When I came back, I received the error. No amount of disabling extensions, restarting, logging out/in, and cache clearing has had any effect. Luckily, I have another machine I can use to watch, but I hope someone is able to fix this soon. If anyone would like further information from me, I am happy to help, but I will need instructions on how to get the information you want. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1685104 Title: Netflix returns error F7363-1260 as movie loads.
