[Bug 1945559] Re: Failed to start Kernel Modules and small Ubuntu resolution
This cannot be answered with the information currently available. The problems might be caused from either side of the VM (the host or the guest). What OS/version is the host running? What exact version of Virtualbox? 6.1 might be anything from Ubuntu 20.04 onward. Which modules fail to load. For more information about the guest you should run "apport-collect 1945559" inside the guest (assuming the guess can connect to the internet). ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1945559 Title: Failed to start Kernel Modules and small Ubuntu resolution To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1945559/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1945707] Re: BCM57800 SRIOV bug causes interfaces to disappear
** Description changed: + [Impact] + bnx2x driver won't add all devices ports/interfaces. + + [Test case] + Boot system with bnx2x device and verify all ports/interfaces have been added. + + [Potential regression] + bnx2x devices won't be properly probed. Devices won't be added or SR-IOV won't be correctly supported. + + --- Original Description --- Works with focal kernel 5.4.0-80 Broken with focal kernel 5.4.0-88 On a Dell R720 with the BCM57800 based 1/10 Gigabit Integrated Network cards Kernel 5.11.22-3 causes half of the network interfaces to disappear specifically the 1gb ports. Commands like "ip link show" and "dmesg" no longer show eno3 and eno4 nor any other interface name for these ports. I've read the note in the release notes and this does not appear to be a case of the interface changing names, the 3rd and 4th interface don't show up at all. The card is based on the BCM57800 chipset and has two SFP+ and two gigabit ports on the same card. Commands like "ip link show" no longer show ports 3 and 4. "lspci" still shows four items. dmesg only shows the first two interfaces. This problem seems to be known upstream, and seems to be a regression. More information at https://bugzilla.proxmox.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3558 This is being seen at a customer during an openstack install. It would be appreciated if a workaround could be provided or the fix could be prioritized. Using standard Focal 20.04 LTS kernel (it installs ok with the working kernel then upgrades to the non-working one -- this is done through maas and is difficult to control). Tested other kernels like hwe-* and all seem to be affected too. Client does not want to disable SRIOV on whole card and also cannot disable only ports 3/4 (the bios will not allow it). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1945707 Title: BCM57800 SRIOV bug causes interfaces to disappear To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1945707/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1943913] Re: touchpad and keyboard are not working in 5.11.0-35
Not sure the serio message is relevant. Interestingly the journal also contains a 5.4 boot which has the same. There is a more serious problem even before. inspiron-5480-c1-201807-26321 kernel: WARNING: CPU: 2 PID: 369 at mm/page_alloc.c:4975 __alloc_pages_nodemask+0x268/0x300 This is caused by dell_wmi_sysman requesting an allocation which is beyond the allowed order. The date seems to come directly from the bios. None of that happens for the 5.11.0-34 kernel. Though we had feedback that on the same hardware we do not get issues running the same kernel version on hirsute (the kernel then is also built in hirsute space). The allocation failure seems to lead to a crash later on (still part of loading the dell-wmi-sysman module. There was one change in the kernel which addresses how ACPI attributes are treated: 41a8457f3f6f "ACPI: DPTF: Fix reading of attributes" However there seems to be no follow-up yet on it upstream. Nor seems the same change that is also present in the parent hirsute:linux kernel to be causing issues for hirsute. IT still could be a compiler issue because the hwe-5.11 kernel is compiled in focal user-space. Therefor it would be interesting to see whether the parent hirsute kernel, when installed under focal user-space is also showing problems or not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1943913 Title: touchpad and keyboard are not working in 5.11.0-35 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-signed-hwe-5.11/+bug/1943913/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1928648] Re: expiring trust anchor compatibility issue
Hi Dmitry/Marc, thanks for working on this and the related openssl bug, very appreciated trying avoiding the rapidly upcoming problem. I think this gnutls could get be extra annoying (or very noisy for support) as bionic is both still active LTS and also apt itself uses gnutls backend. ESM maybe even worse (see end of this comment). While Ubuntu repos itself seems to not have Let's Encrypt certificates a couple of 3rd party repos have and some maybe quite common for developers. 2 examples using Let's encrypt a.) apt.postgresql.org To get any still postgresql version for various ubuntu, debian releases Note: They don't specifically use https:// url in their docs b.) deb.nodesource.com To get update node.js via an apt repo. Their setup instructions specifically use https:// url's While not having fix should not prevent apt from installing it (giving canonical repos seems to not be using Let's Encrypt) but: - Lots of support question - Not sure about unattended-upgrades, custom automation for package updates etc.. On top for ESM (i.e. xenial)) https://esm.ubuntu.com seems to be using Let's Encrypt I did not check it specifically if it has the Android compatible chain triggering the openssl/gnutls bug or you are using the alternative chain. If ESM is affected here that could be bigger issue as it prevents people from installing the fix (if they don't get it before 2021-10-01) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1928648 Title: expiring trust anchor compatibility issue To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnutls28/+bug/1928648/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Manuel, could you open a new bug report about the server systems that showed boot issues? That would help us to determine better what hardware possibly is affected. Please report the new bug number here. Thanks. @Did, sorry we will have to undo the change that enables your keyboard since it causes issues in other cases. [Bug 1939349] Re: frequent hangs with latest hirsute kernel (nvidia graphics)
I probably would first suggest to try the proposed 5.11.0-26 from this cycle. The other path which might be useful (but I do not know whether this is possible with the HW) would be to attempt a bit with the nouveau driver. That might separate whether this is in Nvidia or the kernel. Generally fast spinning fans sound like a spinlock problem. But this could as well be caused by a crash somewhere with a lock taken. Or a hand for other reasons, again while being in a lock section. I suspect Steve already checked previous boot logs and did not find any useful message. That makes it hard to put a finger somewhere. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1939349 Title: frequent hangs with latest hirsute kernel (nvidia graphics) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1939349/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
