[Bug 1959834] [NEW] Consider packaging cwltest as well

2022-02-02 Thread Steffen Neumann
Public bug reported:

Hi,

https://github.com/common-workflow-language/cwltest
is a CWL testing framework, and would be great to be packaged along cwltool,
thus aiding CWL tool and workflow development.

Yours,
Steffen

[Bug 1735981] Re: Huawei ME936 mobile broadband can't connect

2019-11-09 Thread Steffen Neumann
Hi, just want to update that the problem still exists under 19.10 live system.
I couldn't test whether the 77-mm-huawei-net-port-types.rules fix works,
since I only have a live-USB system where I can't add the file early enough.

How do we get the Modem Manager people to decide whether the above described
workaround is a proper fix that should be upstreamed ? Anything how we can help
?

Yours,
Steffen

[Bug 1811545] Re: Immediate resume from suspend when wifi enabled

2019-01-29 Thread Steffen Neumann
So, after leaving the hotel and the conference the problem disappeared.
It could have been an issue with exactly these two Wifi networks.
Can't reproduce anymore. Closing #1811545

Hi, I can confirm that suspend works without immediate wakeup
on a previous 4.15.0-42.45
and resumes after 2-3 secs in suspend as described above on 4.15.0-43.46

[Bug 1811545] [NEW] Immediate resume from suspend when wifi enabled

2019-01-12 Thread Steffen Neumann
Public bug reported:

Hi,

on a current and update 18.04.01 my
Acer TravelMate P648-M/BAD40_SL, BIOS V1.21 07/21/2017
resumes immediately from suspend.

I can successfully enter suspend if I set laptop into flight mode.

This symptom only appeared the last few days,
earlier the same system suspended just fine.

There are no differences in /proc/acpi/wakeup
with and without flight mode.

=> What other debugging information would be needed
to figure what caused the resume with wifi enabled ?

Yours, Steffen

I can confirm that the workaround above by Philipp Hufnagl
indeed does the job. I am writing this comment from aboard a train ;-)
The connction setup is not very robust, and sometimes
fails at Simple connect state (4/8): Wait to get fully enabled

How to get a proper fix upstream now ?

[Bug 1735981] [NEW] Huawei ME936 mobile broadband can't connect

2017-12-03 Thread Steffen Neumann
Public bug reported:

Hi, I have an Acer Travelmate P648 with a Huawei ME936
internal USB mobile broadband card, and can't connect.
This didn't work in 17.04, and still does not work in 17.10.

The USB device is successfully connected,
ModemManager gets as far as "Simple connect state (8/8): All done"
During the setup ModemManager complains with "Couldn't find associated cdc-wdm
port for 'net/wwp0s20f0u9c2'"

DHCP tries to get a configuration, but " dhcp4 (wwp0s20f0u9c2): request timed
out".
IP6 is set to "automatically" in the network settings for this configuration.

and finally connection fails with
"device (ttyUSB0): state change: ip-config -> failed (reason
'ip-config-unavailable', internal state 'managed')"

I checked that there are enough credits left in my account with the
provider.

Any ideas what else to check ?

Yours,
Steffen

[Bug 1673250] [NEW] Internal HUAWEI Mobile Broadband Module not showing up as USB device

2017-03-15 Thread Steffen Neumann
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I am running an Acer P645 with internal USB UMTS modem.
The modem works using a 16.04.1 live USB stick,
but not on the installed on-disk 16.04.2.

Below is the lsusb -v in from the live-USB where the UMTS modem works,
first the USB Hub usb2, then the Huawei device. The information
from the running system where the modem does not show up is attached through
apport.

I also have access to dmesg on both systems, see further below
for the successful case. I also tried to copy kernel and modules
from the live-USB to the hadr disk, booted successfully,
but still nothing in lsusb. I also tried a few times to use

for i in /sys/bus/pci/drivers/[uoex]hci_hcd/*:*; do
  echo "${i##*/}" > "${i%/*}/unbind"
  echo "${i##*/}" > "${i%/*}/bind"
done

for resetting the bus, still the same.

I would welcome some suggestions what to test, if there could be
a firmware issue blocking the UMTS, if teh modem could be blacklisted
(how do I check that ?) whether udev or systemd could be a problem,
whether there could be a missing package in the HDD installation (which?!)
or if UEFI in the boot chain ("sdhci: Secure Digital Host Controller Interface
driver")
could cause an issue.

Or if it makes sense to manually run usb_modeswitch (how?)
without the device even be in lsusb ?

Yours,
Steffen

[Bug 1578222] [NEW] Undefined Symbols when linking to wildmagic

2016-05-04 Thread Steffen Neumann
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I am getting undefined symbols when linking an application to
libwildmagic:

/usr/bin/c++-fopenmp  -O3 -DNDEBUG-fopenmp [...] -o
bin/someapplication -rdynamic somelib.so -lQtNetwork -lQtCore -lsvm
-lxerces-c -Wl,-Bstatic -lboost_iostreams -lboost_date_time
-lboost_math_c99 -lboost_regex -Wl,-Bdynamic -lWm5Core -lWm5Mathematics
-lbz2 -lz -lglpk -Wl,-rpath,/path/to/lib:

/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/5/../../../../lib/libWm5Mathematics.so: undefined
reference to `Wm5::FileIO::operator bool() const'
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/5/../../../../lib/libWm5Mathematics.so: undefined

/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/5/../../../../lib/libWm5Mathematics.so: undefined

/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/5/../../../../lib/libWm5Mathematics.so: undefined

/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/5/../../../../lib/libWm5Mathematics.so: undefined

/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/5/../../../../lib/libWm5Mathematics.so: undefined

/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/5/../../../../lib/libWm5Mathematics.so: undefined
reference to `Wm5::FileIO::Close()'
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

It has been reported that compiling wildmagic from sources works in this case:
https://github.com/OpenMS/OpenMS/issues/1483 so it could be specific to the
packaging.

Yours,
Steffen

[Bug 1573619] Re: Signing with GPG fails (regression)

2016-04-22 Thread Steffen Neumann
Searching some more, I found that gpg --decrypt foo-message.txt.gpg
launched in the terminal *will* open the gpg-agent passphrase input window.

So it seems evolution is not calling that the right way.

Checking my /var/log/apt/history.log.1.gz it could be that
things broke with 3.18.5.2-0ubuntu1

Yours,
Steffen

[Bug 1573619] [NEW] Signing with GPG fails (regression)

2016-04-22 Thread Steffen Neumann
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have a fresh install of 16.04 since several weeks, and regularly apply
updates.
Somewhere along the lines Evolution stopped to sign a mail with gpg, instead
I get the error message:

  Because "gpg: writing to '-'
gpg: signing failed: No passphrase given
gpg: signing failed: No passphrase given
", you may need to select different mail options.

note the double "gpg: signing failed. Unsure if that is relevant.

gpg --list-keys works, and has the key I have in Prefs -> Mail Accounts
-> Edit -> Security

Originally, I got a popup asking for my gpg passphrase, I don't get
that since some update anymore. I'd suspect that is the cluprit.

There is a process gpg-agent running:
gpg-agent --homedir /home/sneumann/.gnupg --use-standard-socket --daemon

=> How to manually invoke the gpg signing with window asking for passphrase ?
Can I check that gpg-agent does what it is supposed to ?

Yours,
Steffen

[Bug 1565420] Re: [TMP645-M, Realtek ALC282, Pink Mic, Left] No sound at all

2016-04-04 Thread Steffen Neumann
Hi Raymond, thanks for that blazingly fast answer. I created a file
/etc/asound.conf
with the content for contro.l23/25/26/14 you posted above, was that the right
thing to do ?
This solved my other problem with automagically switching to headphones
when they are inserted, that's great! I can now also use alsamixer to get
good quality from the headset microphone!

Will every user have to do this, or can these Acer P645-M specific settings
in asound.conf go into the appropriate ubuntu package ? Yours, Steffen

[Bug 1565420] [NEW] [TMP645-M, Realtek ALC282, Pink Mic, Left] No sound at all

2016-04-03 Thread Steffen Neumann
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have an issue using the headset microphone.
hdajacksensetest will happily report the insertion and presence
of the headset (with two separate 3.5mm for input and output):
Pin 0x18 (Pink Mic, Left side): present = Yes

If I use alsamixer to increase the levels, and enable the "loopback",
I can hear the input in the headphones, but no levels are visible
running "SoundRecorder".

Happy to test whatever can help here. System is
an Acer TravelMate P645-M V4DA2 running 16.04
current as of 2nd of April.

Yours, Steffen

[Bug 1050422] Re: CUPS hangs when remote CUPS server defined in client.conf is inaccessible

2015-11-03 Thread Steffen Neumann
Hi,

I can confirm the hanging on both a laptop running 14.04 and a freshly
installed 14.04,
the cups client is on a Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS running cups 1.4.3-1ubuntu1.13

But in our case the cups server IS perfectly accessible with ping,
and nmap shows an open port 631/tcp open ipp

Removing ServerName fixes the hanging.

Can I do other checks to see where e.g. lpq hang ?

Yours,
Steffen

would it make sense if I tried vanilla 3.13.0-32.57 , to check if the reason is

Could you point me to the exact file for amd64 to check ? I can also join some

[Bug 859600] Re: Please convert gnome-keyring to multiarch

2012-12-05 Thread Steffen Neumann
Hi, for me the dirty workaround was to download the
gnome-keyring_3.2.2-2ubuntu4_i386.deb
from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise/i386/gnome-keyring, and extract just
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/pkcs11/gnome-keyring-pkcs11.so and drop it into the
right place.

[Bug 771372] Re: procps runs too early in the boot process

2012-11-01 Thread Steffen Neumann
Hi, we're exactly hit by the problem Vincent described in #40,

This is happened to us on 12.04 and only appeared after an upgrade on
24.9.2012.
Please see
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-users/2012-September/264199.html
for some more details.

The problem does not appear on 12.10 anymore, maybe due to the above
mentioned refactoring.

Nevertheless, not being able to run sysctl during network interface
configuration
seems badly broken. Is there a workaround, should this be re-opened or added as
a new bug ?

Yours,
Steffen and Paul.

[Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2012-09-01 Thread Steffen Neumann
Hi,
I am coming from bug #1041916, where the ALPS device on Fujitsu Lifebook AH530
is not recognized
by psmouse.ko, neither on precise, quantal, nor mainline

Since psmouse-alps-dkms has helped some people to have their ALPS detected,
does it make sense to check that ? Where did it go ?

[Bug 987216] [NEW] After update network-manager doesn't migrate connections

2012-04-23 Thread Steffen Neumann
Public bug reported:

Hi,

network-manager used to store connections in gconf back in 10.04 days.
Upon upgrade to 12.04 and nm- 0.9.4.0 they live now in
/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/

But the old connection information from
~/.gconf/system/networking/connections/X/connection
is not migrated. I updated from 10.04 back in march.

This problem is also mentioned here:
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/networkmanager-list/2011-June/msg00149.html

If NM doesn't migrate connection information,
this needs to be in the release doc, I guess.

Steffen

2012-04-23 Thread Steffen Neumann
Hi,

I accidentally opened a duplicate of this under
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/987216

Because there seems to be no migration tool,
I loose all existing (wireless) connections upon upgrade.

We'd need at least some export / import feature
for the gconf - /etc/NetworkManager/ migration.

[Bug 977541] Re: Unable to select text in email

2012-04-20 Thread Steffen Neumann
Hi, I'd like to suggest to raise the Importance. Although it does not break the
package as such,
working with mail like that (having to paste the mail somewhere else to select
what I actually
want is a major pain), normal usability is drastically reduced. Also, it's a
regression against
the older (10.04) evolution.

[Bug 970896] [NEW] Backport driver for USB Stick Terratec Synergy HTC from 3.3

2012-04-01 Thread Steffen Neumann
Public bug reported:

Hi,

this bug is kinda duplicate of #951835 because the Synergy HTC has the same
chipset as the 930C,
so once the driver is backported, both sticks (and many more!) are supported. I
opened this report
because I don't have a Hauppauge 930C any more.

For media PCs running e.g. MythBuntu the wide support of DVB-C sticks is
important.
The Terratec Synergy HTC is not supported by linux-image-3.2.0-21-generic-pae,
but support is upstream and I can confirm that the stick works on
linux-image-3.3.0-030300-generic
from the PPA. It would be great if support could be backported to the 12.04
kernel.

A start for the backport could be this commit:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git;a=blob;f=drivers/media/video/em28xx/em28xx-cards.c;=4561cd89938de422ff268b64d5a2734d27873daa;hb=HEAD

[Bug 951835] Re: Backport driver for USB Stick HVR930C from 3.3

2012-04-01 Thread Steffen Neumann
Hi,

as I don't own a 930C anymore[*] and moved to a Synergy HTC,
I have opened bug #970896 which also suggests to backport
the drivers from 3.3 to precise 12.04. In fact, both bugs are likely
to be closed by the same commit, although they are not real duplicates.

Yours,
Steffen

[*] There are two hardware revisions of the hardware. The old with USB ID
[2040:1605]
is supported by kernel-3.3, while the new 930C hardware [2040:b130] is not.

2012-04-01 Thread Steffen Neumann
Hi,

I am not a kernel hacker, and any C or kernel experience I have
predates git by years, so please review and double check the following.

## Get Ubuntu kernel development
git clone git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-precise.git

## Add upstream
git remote add torvalds
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git

## Cherry pick kernel-3.3 media changes
##
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git;a=commit;h=122804ecb59493fbb4d31b3ba9ac59faaf45276f

git cherry-pick -m 1 122804ecb59493fbb4d31b3ba9ac59faaf45276f

## Manually fix two merge conflicts
emacs drivers/media/video/omap3isp/ispccdc.c
drivers/staging/media/lirc/lirc_serial.c
git add drivers/media/video/omap3isp/ispccdc.c
drivers/staging/media/lirc/lirc_serial.c

## finish merge
git commit -m backported video from 3.3 and fixed conflict in ispccdc.c and
lirc_serial.c -a

The result seems to compile, and I can check functionality tomorrow.

Should I attach this as patch ?

Yours,
Steffen

Thanks James,

I followed the comments in that bug, changed the 85-lvm2.rules,
and verified that the change was present in /lib/udev/rules.d

I also tried rootdelay=45 and scsi_mod.scan=sync I found
in other reports, also no change. I have attached an initram debug trace.

[Bug 596554] Re: Unable to mount root LVM partition

2011-10-14 Thread Steffen Neumann
I was reading similar bug reports, and it seems to be that the LVM partitions
don't trigger a vgscan,
so it might be rather a runtime than an initrd creation problem.

** Package changed: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) = udev (Ubuntu)

[Bug 596554] Re: Unable to mount root LVM partition

2011-10-14 Thread Steffen Neumann
The problem persists, I updated oneiric on the laptop to todays -update and
-proposed,
without a change. I was also reading #833891, but that doesn't apply because we
both don't
have a timeout problem, we're dropped to busybox immediately.
It's probably also not #802626, because our VG does include the root LV.

Steffen

[Bug 596554] Re: Unable to mount root LVM partition

2011-10-09 Thread Steffen Neumann
Hi,

I can confirm this problem. I had a working natty with / living on an LVM
partition,
with 9 logical volumes in total. Today, I did a do-release-update to test the
almost final oneiric.

I am dropped into a busybox shell on earch boot, because all my LVs are not
available.
Then I can lvm lvchange -ay my logical volume, exit the busybox shell and
continue to boot normally.

I tried to update-initramfs, and update-grub, but still I get this behavior
each time.
lvm2 is 2.02.66-4ubuntu3, initramfs-tools are 0.99ubuntu7

This could be a serious problem, unless it is just our two systems.
Anything I can check ?

Hi, same here with nfs4 mounts on a natty installed today.
Curiously, the nfs3 mounts are fine. Could that be related with rcp.idmapd,
which has to run before nfs4 can mount successfully ?

[Bug 735294] [NEW] Regression: Keyboard repeat stops after resuming from suspend after 2.6.32-30 upgrade

2011-03-15 Thread Steffen Neumann
Public bug reported:

Hi,

after resuming from suspend, keyboard repeat is not working anymore in
X11/gnome,
i.e. I see only a single character when keeping a key pressed for a long time.
System is a Lenovo T400.

The problem occurred after dist-upgrading a few days ago, which pulled in
the 2.6.32-30.59 kernel. I can fix it manually with:

   gconftool-2 -s -t int /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/rate 38

The problem is not present if I boot into the previous 2.6.32-29.58
kernel.

I'll report back whether the text console is affected, too.

Yours,
Steffen

[Bug 724983] [NEW] Move to upstart scripts

2011-02-25 Thread Steffen Neumann
Public bug reported:

Hi,

For quite a while we experienced that execd (from Debian/Ubuntu packages)
was not starting on our Ubuntu 10.04 (6.2u4) nor 11.04 (6.2u5) during bootup.
Starting them manually was no problem.

Many months later I figured that the /etc/init.d/gridengine-exec
was started before the network was uprunning, a consequence
of the move to upstart as init replacement.

gridengine packages should ship upstart jobs, to be able to
properly depend on networking being available.

Steffen

AW: [Bug 372014] Re: errors in dmesg

2010-11-14 Thread Steffen Neumann

Hi,

no, it is not about the files which are 0bytes in your
mounted ecryptfs under /home/user/...,
but those encrypted-file-containers that are 0bytes
in /home/user/.Private, i.e. intheir encrypted state
where something went terribly wrong,
and which can't be decrypted anyhow.

What's really missing is a simple option to find out
*which* files are broken, so you can restore them
from your Backup. (You do backup, don't you ?)

Yours,
Steffen

I have this issue too; running Lucid.

I'm struggling with the concept that all zero-length files should be
deleted. This sounds like ... make sure all the software you design
fits the limitation of my filesystem... In my world, zero length files
are fairly commonplace. And removing them screws up the systems that
depend on them being there.

Does this mean ecryptfs is not ready for prime-time?

[Bug 348052] Re: Race condition in /usr/bin/xvfb-run causes concurrent invocations to fail

2010-08-03 Thread Steffen Neumann
Hi,

I am unsure whether this is fixed in xvfb 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.2,
because I am experiencing the symptoms that xvfb fails to start
with multiple concurrent invocations on a single host.
(We're using xvfb-run in job scripts submitted to the gridengine queueing
system,
which schedules as many jobs as cores on one host).

I have attached the output of sh -x xvfb-run, please let me know

[Bug 347034] Re: External Drive not recognised at boot

2010-08-03 Thread Steffen Neumann
Hi,

I tried an identical drive (they were bought on the same day)
and the second one works fine.

On the other hand, my drive which fails in karmic
works fine on a lucid laptop and also there under Windows.

So in my case it seems to be a hardware problem
in relation to the *specific* combination of USB disk
and the intel mainboard D945GCLF2.

Should we have made the poweroff issue a blocker

2010-04-30 Thread Steffen Neumann
Jeremy, are you sure that's fixed ?

Both the bug title and karmic kernel are 2.6.31,
the problem is gone was after upgrading the full distribution,
including a new kernel 2.6.32 version.

People who continue to use karmic are left in the cold,
especially if security fixes roll in.

I'd vote to re-open this, unless it is fixed in 2.6.31
