packages you’re using didn’t come from Ubuntu.

Alternatively, you can use the versions in Ubuntu (1.0.4+dfsg-1), it
installs properly.

[Bug 1895068] Re: Need backport for use after free regression in binutils 2.34

2020-09-12 Thread Stephen Kitt
Unfortunately, because of the way binutils-mingw-w64 is built, this is
liable to be complex to fix.

In Focal, I could upload a new version with the patch, but I’m not sure
how to go about getting an update into “proposed”.

In Groovy, binutils-source is 2.35, so the only possible fix is to build
with that, which would mean getting the Debian 8.11 package synced.

[Bug 1845966] Re: Conflicts between std::byte and byte

Sorry for the tone, I am taking this seriously, and I realise this is
probably very frustrating for you since I assume you’ve run into this
while trying to get something done. If you can attach the code which
failed to build because of the conflict, I’ll look into the current
situation with GCC 8 and 9. Which version of Ubuntu are you using?

[Bug 1845966] Re: Conflicts between std::byte and byte

2019-09-30 Thread Stephen Kitt
So when you say

> but upstream maintainers think it is not a bug because "they shouldn't
conflict"

it’s really one active user with recent commits? Would you mind at least
clarifying which project you’re talking about? Since it’s on
SourceForge, I’m guessing it’s MinGW-w64, but it would be nice to know
for sure. If it *is* MinGW-w64, you can contact the project by emailing
mingw-w64-pub...@lists.sourceforge.net without having to deal with
recaptcha.

If you have a small reproducer to illustrate the issue, I’d greatly
appreciate seeing it too. A quick test on my system suggests that
cstddef and rpcndr.h don’t conflict wrt. byte, even with “using
namespace std”, at least with GCC 9.2...

[Bug 1843479] Re: gzip in Ubuntu Eoan results in Exec format error on WSL1

2019-09-11 Thread Stephen Kitt
I tried comparing the binaries with diffoscope, and one difference which
jumped out at me is the .plt.sec section which is present in the Eoan
binary. This presumably comes from CET (gcc -fcf-protection). There are
other differences, less significant IMO; .plt.sec is a likely candidate
for something WSL1 might not support.

[Bug 1804138] Re: mingw ld cannot link libraries

2018-11-20 Thread Stephen Kitt
It seems that ld is using “no” as a sysroot. The interesting part here
is in the “large script” you removed; could you at least tell me what
the “SEARCH_DIR” setting is, near the start of the script?

[Bug 1740319] Re: Dosbox should be 32-bit version on 64-bit

2018-09-11 Thread Stephen Kitt
With what specific games are you seeing this issue? 32- and 64-bit
versions of DOSBox are able to run the same programs. (I suppose you’re
thinking of the fact that long mode can’t run 16-bit code, but that’s
not an issue in DOSBox.)

[Bug 1788608] [NEW] wget doesn't support compression, it needs zlib1g-dev

2018-08-23 Thread Stephen Kitt
Public bug reported:

wget can use zlib1g for a few features, notably --compression support.
The Debian package doesn't explicitly build-depend on zlib1g-dev, it
gets it via libgnutls28-dev; since the Ubuntu package drops the latter,
compression support is lost too.

Please consider adding zlib1g-dev. (I've also asked the Debian
maintainer to do so, see the linked bug; however the libgnutls28-dev
removal in Ubuntu should take this into account IMO.)

> Système de fichiers accessible en lecture seulement

Il faut corriger ça pour pouvoir installer un paquet, quel qu’il soit...
(Si le système de fichiers n’est pas censé être en lecture seule, qu‘il
le soit signifie sans doute qu’il y a une erreur de cohérence dans le
système de fichiers ; il vaut mieux redémarrer dans ce cas pour que le
fsck au démarrage s’occupe du problème.)

For English readers, the bug submitter has a read-only file system, preventing
this package in particular from being installed. I’m explaining that the
submitter needs to fix that before any package can be installed, and that an
unexpectedly read-only file system usually means an error occurred in the file
system, which a reboot should take care of with the boot fsck.

it to debhelper compatibility level 10 and fixed configure.in so that
autoreconf works correctly (which is better all round). Thanks for your
work on this!

[Bug 1678463] Re: wput should be compiled with TLS support

2017-06-07 Thread Stephen Kitt
Hi Marcos,

That is fantastic, thanks for figuring it out! I need to wait for the
wput package to migrate to Debian Stretch (tonight I think), then I’ll
add you commit as a patch to the package and upload it (and it will
migrate to Ubuntu).

Thanks again,

Stephen

[Bug 1678463] Re: wput should be compiled with TLS support

2017-06-07 Thread Stephen Kitt
Hi Marcos,

No need to be sorry, the Ubuntu package does indeed still not have TLS
support. The Debian package does: https://packages.debian.org/sid/wput
(that's where I fixed the issue). Looking at the build details, I'm not
sure what the difference is...

I can't find how to re-open this bug, do you know how to do that?

Regards,

Stephen

Nice catch, thanks. The fix is straightforward, all that’s needed is to
add libgcrypt20-dev to the build-dependencies. I’ll see if I can provide
an update through Debian despite the freeze.

[Bug 1582008] [NEW] Sync lgogdownloader 2.28-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2016-05-15 Thread Stephen Kitt
Public bug reported:

Please sync lgogdownloader 2.28-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * No-change rebuild for boost soname change.
  * debian/patches/jsoncpp-1.7.1.patch: Grab patch from Debian to fix FTBFS
with JsonCpp 1.7.1.
  * No-change rebuild for the libjsoncpp transition.
The JsonCpp patch is included in 2.28 (and came from the Debian
package anyway).

Changelog entries since current yakkety version 2.26-1ubuntu2:

lgogdownloader (2.28-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release, merging jsoncpp-1.7.1.patch.
  * Standards-Version 3.9.8, no change required.

 -- Stephen Kitt   Mon, 09 May 2016 23:35:51 +0200

lgogdownloader (2.27-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Apply upstream patch to build with libjsoncpp 1.7.1 and later. Closes:
#820064, #820315.

 -- Stephen Kitt   Fri, 08 Apr 2016 13:46:48 +0200

lgogdownloader (2.27-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release, with a new cmake-based build obsoleting all the
existing patches apart from manpage-whatis.patch.

 -- Stephen Kitt   Fri, 18 Mar 2016 12:56:19 +0100

lgogdownloader (2.26-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Switch to https: VCS URIs (see #810378).
  * Apply upstream's fix for crashes after login (thanks to Phil Morrell
for pointing it out!).
  * Standards-Version 3.9.7, no change required.
  * Enable full hardening.

[Bug 1388415] Re: jstest-gtk doesn't detect my joystick

2014-11-09 Thread Stephen Kitt
The logs indicate that the kernel isn't detecting any USB activity...
I'd expect to see something like

[117594.034717] usb 4-1.8: new low-speed USB device number 7 using ehci-pci
[117594.143931] usb 4-1.8: New USB device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=c218

[117594.158966] logitech 0003:046D:C218.0007: Force feedback for Logitech
variant 2 rumble devices by Anssi Hannula

when connecting the joystick: the first few lines are from the USB core,
and the last three from the input driver.

If you're not seeing any lines with "usb" and a number, there's
something wrong either with your joystick, with your USB port(s), with
your computer's firmware or with the kernel.

[Bug 1388415] Re: jstest-gtk doesn't detect my joystick

2014-11-02 Thread Stephen Kitt
Thanks! Your joystick doesn't appear in the list of USB peripherals, so
it looks like something is going wrong before jstest-gtk can even get a
chance to use the joystick. Could you try disconnecting your joystick,
reconnecting it, and then running

dmesg | tail -n 20

in a terminal, and pasting the output? (Make sure there is nothing
sensitive before pasting...)

[Bug 1388415] Re: jstest-gtk doesn't detect my joystick

2014-11-01 Thread Stephen Kitt
Hi,

Could you show me what lsusb reports, with the joystick plugged in (I'm
assuming it's a USB joystick)? Open a terminal and type in

lsusb

and copy/paste the output...

Thanks,

Stephen

[Bug 1338043] Re: Using seh exceptions, win32 threads

2014-08-12 Thread Stephen Kitt
The changelog snippet given above doesn't explain how this bug was
fixed: gcc-mingw-w64 now uses the upstream default exception handling
(SJLJ for 32-bit Windows, SEH for 64-bit Windows), and provides two
toolchains, one using Windows threads and one using POSIX threads. The
required threading model can be selected using update-alternatives; the
default is Windows threads to minimise the change since Debian's last
stable release. A specific threading model can also be used for a given
compilation by suffixing the compiler with either -posix or -win32, e.g.
i686-w64-mingw32-gcc-posix to explicitly use POSIX threads.

[Bug 1352138] [NEW] Sync gcc-mingw-w64 14.1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2014-08-03 Thread Stephen Kitt
Public bug reported:

Please sync gcc-mingw-w64 14.1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Changelog entries since current utopic version 13:

gcc-mingw-w64 (14.1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Take the threading model into account when stripping libraries.

 -- Stephen Kitt   Thu, 31 Jul 2014 07:27:45 +0200

gcc-mingw-w64 (14) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Provide compilers using Windows and POSIX threads. The default setup
uses Windows threads, thus avoiding the dependency on the pthreads DLL
(Closes: #748353, #750741).
  * Use the default exception-handling (SJLJ on 32-bit Windows, SEH on
64-bit Windows). (With the above, LP: #1338043.)
  * Build a mingw32 transition package (Closes: #756142):
- C++ code with interface/implementation pragmas links correctly
  (Closes: #179760);
- libstdc++.la is no longer shipped (Closes: #281030);
- the libstdc++ DLL is provided (Closes: #317146);
- _NO_OLD_NAMES doesn't break unistd.h (Closes: #338412);
- the gccbug manpage is no longer linked to (Closes: #351790);
- the package description doesn't mention "freedom through
  obsolescence" (Closes: #403720);
- g77 is provided (Closes: #418167);
- nothing is installed in /usr/libexec (Closes: #470574);
- Lintian overrides are correct (Closes: #470873);
- powf and sinf can be used in the same project (Closes: #484299);
- there's no "it's"/"its" typo in the Debian-specific files (Closes:
  #498400);
- the package builds gcc 4.9 (Closes: #514186);
- a 64-bit compiler is available (Closes: #514187);
- powf is defined correctly (Closes: #525016);
- no compilercache symlinks are shipped (Closes: #583262).
  * Ship the C++ header files in the default location instead of
/usr/include/c++/; this avoids having to introduce a new package for
the target-independent headers.
  * Remove obsolete gnat files.

[Bug 1338043] Re: Using seh exceptions, win32 threads

2014-07-06 Thread Stephen Kitt
Actually I was thinking of spec files, not linker scripts, sorry!

It would end up looking something like

x86_64-w64-mingw32-gcc -mwin32threads

to build with Win32 threads, etc. Or perhaps -mthreads=win32 (and
-mthreads=posix), depending on what I can get the specs to do.

[Bug 1338043] Re: Using seh exceptions, win32 threads

2014-07-05 Thread Stephen Kitt
I keep an eye on bugs filed here, so there's no need to push this to
Debian (I'm the Debian packager for this).

Your question covers similar issues to those raised in
http://bugs.debian.org/750741 so I'm linking the two.

With regards to a proper solution, I'd be interested in anything you can
come up with. I'm working (slowly) on a way of providing both win32 and
pthreads-based libraries simultaneously, using linker script switches to
pick the right one. Switching between SJLJ and SEH will happen
automatically at some point in the future, or rather SEH will become the
default, since the patent has now expired.

[Bug 1327242] Re: x86_64-w64-mingw32-pkg-config ignores PKG_CONFIG_PATH

2014-06-06 Thread Stephen Kitt
Hi,

Thanks for reporting this, it's nice to see the pkg-config wrapper is
useful!

The script is actually a symlink to /usr/share/pkg-config-crosswrapper,
which is provided by the pkg-config package. Fixing that would improve
the situation for every user of cross-pkg-config, so I'm reassigning
this bug to pkg-config.

Regards,

Stephen
