[Bug 572970] [NEW] Battery indicator stuck on fully charged
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager When the laptop battery is fully charged and the power cable is removed the battery monitor does not notice this change, and does not report the battery as discharging until the battery is critically low alert is hit. This affects gnome-power manager as settings such as suspend on laptop lid closed do not work correctly, when this issue is encountered and the laptop lid is closed the screen is just blanked (which is the option for laptop lid close when on ac power). Running acpi in terminal correctly gives: Battery 0: Discharging, 95%, rate information unavailable This bug has affected me in ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: gnome-power-manager 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-21.32-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-21-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 Date: Sat May 1 12:29:57 2010 GnomeSessionIdleInhibited: No GnomeSessionInhibitors: None GnomeSessionSuspendInhibited: No InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx - Release amd64 (20100429) MachineType: CLEVO CO. Hi, thanks for the response. Attached it the debug log you asked for. It is also worth noting that, whilst creating this log, I noticed that the bug only occurs once per boot: The first time I kill gnome-screensaver, start it in debug mode and lock screen the bug occurs. Any further time I kill gnome-screensaver, start it in debug mode and lock screen the unlocking works flawlessly. I will attach the same form of debug log for when the unlocking succeeds in my next comment. ** Attachment added: debug log on lock screen freeze http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26476973/gs_fail.log -- Lock screen dialogue freezes on correct password https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363361 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 363361] [NEW] Lock screen dialogue freezes on correct password
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver Running 9.04 release candidate (upgraded from 8.10) gnome-screensaver version 2.24.0-0ubuntu6 (I think this is the package that handles the lock screen dialogue?) When confronted with the lock screen dialogue (whether produced from Lock Screen, switching back from guest session, or restoring from suspend mode) it is impossible to unlock. If the correct password is given the dialogue freezes at the status message Checking... and fails to respond. The fan then starts up so I suspect the CPU is being used at 100% This bug occurs with and without desktop effects. I'm running a laptop with an integrated intel graphics driver. Hi, I replaced my Sony laptop (because of a hardware failure - not Kubuntu), so I can't help with this problem any more. I'm now running Intrepid on an Acer Aspire and it works fine. [Bug 288614] [NEW] Kubuntu (8.10-rc) hangs on boot - LiveCD Install
Public bug reported: LiveCD boot just hangs. LiveCD (in Safe Graphics mode) gets as far as KDE splash screen and hangs. Re: [Bug 221329] Re: Kubuntu Hardy 8.04 live CD (and install) hangs during boot
Install hangs. The first Ubiquity screen (Welcome/choose language) is OK. When I click on Forward, the next screen (Where are you/choose city/country/time zone) displays - but hangs as soon as I click on the Selected City selection box. No mouse or keyboard - not even Caps Lock. I gave it about 5 minutes before giving up (as I know it can be slow), but there was no further activity on CD or HD. Steve H. I get a little further with the xforcevesa boot option. The desktop is displayed (rather than nothing!) but it still hangs. Steve H. On Monday 04 August 2008 12:17:11 Juan Miguel Corral wrote: I am experiencing a similar problem, also with an ATI 9200. LiveCD hangs on startup (I only can see a big white square). But when I start a normal session, it shows the splah screen (without the messages, just the graphics: no fonts), and then the big white square. Sometimes it appears what looks like the edge of an enormous font. This makes me think the problem has something to do with font rendering. If I login in failsafe console and select vesa screen driver, it works, but obviously I cannot take advantage of the graphic card's features. I can help posting the logs, if somebody tells me what log can be useful. Best regards. Juan. Misco is a division of Systemax Europe Ltd. Registered in Scotland Number 114143. Hi, OpenSuse 11 LiveCD (in Failsafe mode) works. In sysinfo it shows Driver: radeon. I'm not sure if this is what is being used or what it believes should be used. Steve H. Re: [Bug 221329] Re: Kubuntu Hardy 8.04 live CD (and install) hangs during boot
Hi, No. I just tried (Kubuntu 8.04.1): Safe Graphics Mode twice and it still locks up. When I have a spare 15 minutes, I'll give OpenSuse 11 a go (in safe mode). I know it doesn't work in normal mode. Steve H. On Thursday 31 July 2008 08:19:34 Timo Aaltonen wrote: Does it boot if you use the failsafe option (or similar, don't remember what it was called)? This is also a problem when Hardy is installed. And because of a package conflict, xserver-xorg-video-ati can't be downgraded to the 1:6.6.3-2 version. at this stage there appears to be no way to upgrade to Hardy. -- Kubuntu Hardy 8.04 live CD hangs during boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221329 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 221329] [NEW] Kubuntu Hardy 8.04 live CD hangs during boot
Public bug reported: The live CD hangs during boot. I've removed the quiet and splash boot options and just before the Black screen of death, I see: Starting K Display manager Starting Avahi ... Running on Sony Vaio PCG-K215Z laptop Note. This has an ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 graphics card, which caused problems when I upgraded to Gutsy. I eventually fixed by downgrading the driver (xserver-xorg-video-ati) to the Fiesty version: 1:6.6.3-2ubuntu6. Obviously no such option is available when booting from a Live CD. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Kubuntu Hardy 8.04 live CD hangs during boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221329 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 156653] Re: gdm session crashes after logging in (after upgrade to 7.10)
Hi Basilio, A subsequent upgrade of the Hardy alpha environment broke my installation. I couldn't even log in: a failed malloc in the startup of the session stopped me from even logging in in single-user mode. I have since installed the server (64 bit) version of of Hardy beta but have not yet added a desktop environment. This time I will be installing it as a virtual guest of the Hardy server using KVM. I'll give you my feedback as soon as it's installed. Cheers, Steve Basilio Kublik wrote: Hi Steve do you still get this issue using the beta release of Hardy Heron? [Bug 156653] gdm session crashes after logging in (after upgrade to 7.10)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Hi, After upgrading to Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10, I can no longer open a normal Gnome session. When I enter my user and password the screen goes black then I see for a brief second what seems to be part of the startup log after which I am returned to the login screen. On the other hand, I can login successfully if I choose a Gnome failsave session. Please could somone indicate what logs I should look at to find the error? Thanks for any help on this. [Bug 47516] Re: CDROM drive eject disc after randomly seconds of use
This is a squeaky wheel gets the grease posting, with a bit more info. I also get the dropping to single dma msg, with an error number (I assume) of 883.997589. Maybe that will tell you where it's being issued. I tried Draconid's trick, killed gvm, and viola! played my audio cd's. Just to see what would happen, in the middle of a cd I entered gnome-volume-manager in a terminal session to start gvm up again, and in about 30 seconds, the cd was ejected and the music stopped. I just created my Ubuntu 6.10 install cd this week, so the bug is still there. I'm new to Ubuntu, and to Linux, so may be missing something somewhere. But as Draconid said, killing gvm isn't a viable solution in the long term. It was quite nice to find this thread out there that nailed my problem. Thanks for what all of you in the thread (and perhaps behind the scene) have already put into this. -- CDROM drive eject disc after randomly seconds of use https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/47516 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 3593] Re: Xvnc4 (package vnc4server) unable to find fixed font in Breezy
On Edgy, I solved the problem by adding the -fp parameter to the /etc/vnc/config file as follows: sudo gedit /etc/vnc/config opens config file for r/w: # Default vncserver configuration. See the vncserver man page for details. -PasswordFile $HOME/.vnc/passwd # Location of VncAuth password -desktop $HOSTNAME:$DISPLAYNUM ($USER) # Desktop name -pn # Continue even if standard ports fail -httpd inline # Serve Java viewer inline ### # Add correct X11 fonts path spec. Because vncserver does not # recognize -fp, it passes it to Xvnc, which vncserver invokes (see man # vncserver). Hence, this is equivalent to specifying # Xvnc :1 -fp /usr/share... -fp /usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1,/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi,/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi,/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc -- Xvnc4 (package vnc4server) unable to find fixed font in Breezy https://launchpad.net/bugs/3593 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
