[Bug 1606210] [NEW] Initial Startup "This is not an official Ubuntu package"

2016-07-25 Thread Sunny Xu
Public bug reported:

I have just purchased a pre-installed Ubuntu 14.04 laptop, and
encountered a problem on the initial startup. After setting up the
languages, timezone and usernames, an error message popped up in the
installation process of which it was in the state of "retrieving files".
The error message showed "An error occurred while installing packages:"
and listed a set of prompts after "command", then follows "the following
packages are in a broken state:". After clicking "ok", it attempts to
report the "bug", and failed. Finally, another message popped up saying
that "The problem cannot be reported: This is not an official Ubuntu
package. Please remove any third party package and try again."

I purchased this laptop from a reliable retailer, so I am sure that the
Ubuntu package should be legitimate. I have also heard that this message
often pops up as an error, in cases that the installation crashed due to
hardware or other problems.

I am very new to Ubuntu. I apologise for my lack of professionalism in
my descriptions. Please state any possible matters in the comments.

Thank you.

[Bug 206884]

2014-01-20 Thread Sunny
Hi Athira,

You need to change "(off)" in [1] to "Universal".

To see the change, you could just build toolkit/locales/ with `mach
build toolkit/locales/` and `mach run` to see the changes.

Good Luck!

[Bug 875546] [NEW] Unable to wake from suspend to RAM

2011-10-16 Thread Sunny
Public bug reported:

Ever since I did a fresh install of Natty (and subsequently Oneiric) I
have not been able to wake my desktop from suspend to RAM. Sleep
previously worked on Maverick with no problems.

The computer will go into sleep mode after selecting suspend, but when I
try to wake it by pushing the power button, the monitor remains shut
down (not even a blank screen) and the USB keyboard and mouse are both
unresponsive. The desktop tower itself is powered on though.

My setup is as follows:
i7 950
ASUS P6T Deluxe V2
Gigabyte GTX 460
120GB Intel SSD
2x 1TB Hitachi SATA drive

The inability for any Linux OS I have tried so far on my switchable
graphics laptop (HP Pavilion DV6-3006TX) has forced me to only use the
HP Slapshtop and Windows 7 that came pre-installed on the laptop. I am a
great fan of Linux and especially Ubuntu and would love to use Ubuntu on
my new laptop. I can not even try a live cd as I can not any graphics
with Linux except to pick if i want to use the live cd or to install.

[Bug 464060] Re: 9.10 cannot use ibus or scim to input Chinese

2009-11-08 Thread Sunny
Arne.

I think most people leaving a message here are those who cannot set the
way they want by using default ibus setting. For example, I want (Quick)
Chinese input method, which is not there by default.

That's why I add a line in sources.list file.

Secondly when I reinstall ibus, this message pops up.

## "IBus has been started! If you can not use IBus, please add below
lines in $HOME/.bashrc, and relogin your desktop."

This is for those who still cannot use ibus, even it is started. So this
line is optional.

Of course, after doing all that, I still need to go to
System->Administration->Language to set my desired input method
framework.

BTW, I have to say this Ubuntu 9.10 is pretty good. I have a clean
installation and the only two things I need to twist are Quick Chinese
input and my webcam. The others are working prefectly.

I am going to unsubscribe this post. Thank you for sharing your opinion
and idea.

[Bug 464060] Re: 9.10 cannot use ibus or scim to input Chinese

2009-11-07 Thread Sunny
To add other input method, I do it this way.

IBus has been started! If you can not use IBus, please add below lines in
$HOME/.bashrc, and relogin your desktop.
  export GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus
  export xmodifie...@im=ibus
  export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus

Install other methods in ibus

1. Add the following line in /etc/apt/sources.list

# ibus Chinese input
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/lidaobing/ibus-910/ubuntu karmic main

2. sudo apt-get update
3. sudo apt-get install ibus-*
4. set up "ibus preference"

[Bug 464060] Re: 9.10 cannot use ibus or scim to input Chinese

2009-10-30 Thread Sunny
[Solved] This is Sunny, who issued this problem yesterday and have
solved it today. This is how I solved it.

1. Go to Ubuntu Software Centre and remove "scim" and "ibus"
2. Go to Terminal and delete ~/.scim
3. Reboot my machine.
4. Go to Ubuntu Software Centre and install "ibus".
5. Add the following at the end of ~/.bashrc

  export GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus
  export xmodifie...@im=ibus
  export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus

6. Go to Language Support and add your language.
7. Run "IBus preference" and see your input method.
8. I can see my language setting on the "keyboard" icon ONLY when an
application starts. ( If no application starts, the "keyboard" shows "No Input
method" ) INTERESTING.

I hope this help.

[Bug 464060] [NEW] 9.10 cannot use ibus or scim to input Chinese

2009-10-29 Thread Sunny
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ibus

Ubuntu 9.04 used scim as a default input method for entering Asian
characters such as Chinese and Japanese and was working absolutely fine.

However Ubuntu 9.10 decided to switch to "ibus" which shows "No Input

9.10 without success.

If anyone who has successfully set up Chinese or Japanese input on 9.10,
please let me know.

[Bug 360148] Re: p54usb module loading problem

2009-04-27 Thread Sunny
I have the same problem with wireless usb adapter Netgear WG111v1. When
it tries to load the p54usb module, it utilizes the cpu to 100% (I see
in process list modprobe taking 100%). I can not even kill this process.
The message in /var/log/messages is:

usb 1-3: firmware: request isl3890usb

Looking here: http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/p54/devices I
see it should be isl3886.

So, the p84usb module selects a wrong firmware.

Is there a way to put an option to the miodule to use another firmware?

[Bug 294522] Re: Synaptic package manager just showing installed app when using search function

2009-03-27 Thread Sunny Brown
Thanks for the solution Ben, that worked for me. I had the same error on
a clean install of 8.10 amd64, I had already used the same media for an
install on a different machine and I did not have this problem. I see
that this bug is marked to expire because it is incomplete that would be
unfortunate as it still seems to be a problem and this solution was
useful.

[Bug 192278] Re: wpa_supplicant does not start on boot

2008-07-03 Thread Sunny
Hi Joachim,
thanks for looking into this and proposing a fix. I have been waiting for this
for over 6 months now (sorry, I reported it too late).

Anyway, I vote for applying this patch as a temporary solution to the
problem.

A better fix will be to make ifup to fail if wpasupplicant fail. That
way one would not relay on the write-ability of a particular file
system, which may change over the time, and reintroduce the problem.
Also, such an approach will never expose the machine to another network
(if this happens because of some other problem in wpasupplicant).

Thanks again for the detailed explanation of the problem, and the
proposed fix.

Cheers

2007-10-01 Thread Sunny
Btw, blacklisting the r8180 driver, and installing ndiswrapper and the Realtek
driver for RTL8180 works OK. You only need, after installing the realtek driver
in ndiswrapper to invoke:
# ndiswrapper -d 1799:6001 net8180
to make the driver to recognize the card.

Description of the problem:
I have Belkin wlan card F5D6001, which is supported by Realtek's rtl8180 driver
(according all searches I performed).

The driver loads ok, and initializes the card (according syslog and
messages).

Here I have no wireless access point, so no network using the wireless
card, only wired, if I need to.

It doesn't matter if I have wired connection or not, or if it was
connected before that or not - if I go to Administration/System/Network,
and un-check the checkbox in front of the wireless card to disable it,
the system hard freezes. No ssh to it (if wired connection is present),
no keyboard or mouse activity, no Ctrl-Alt-Backspace or Ctrl-Alt-F1-6 to
switch to text mode. The only solution is power-cycle.

Here are the relevant part of /var/log/messages when the freeze happens:

/var/log/messages:
Oct 1 18:34:18 mubuntu kernel: [ 668.897833] rtl8180: Setting SW wep key
Oct 1 18:34:18 mubuntu kernel: [ 668.946479] rtl8180: Bringing up iface
Oct 1 18:34:18 mubuntu kernel: [ 669.155018] rtl8180: Card successfully reset
Oct 1 18:34:18 mubuntu kernel: [ 669.492580] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link
is not ready

In /var/log/syslog there is nothing interesting, the last message was 4
minutes before I invoke the freeze.

What else can I provide in order to help diagnose the problem?

Cheers
Sunny

[Bug 128149] Re: No sound after install - C-Media 8738

2007-07-27 Thread Sunny Shin
I highly appreciate your help.
I saw the file which you attached and I'm sorry, but I still don't think that
this is a bug.

One odd thing is, when you use modprobe, you receive the bunch of following
messages.
WARNING: Could not open
'/lib/modules/2.6.20-15-generic/kernel/sound/core/snd.ko': No such file or
directory

So, I guess that your system could have some problem.
Check your filesystem having the following directories, such as
/lib/modules/2.6.20-15-generic/kernel/sound/core/.

One recommendation is to update to the latest version of the kernel is the
safest as the package installation may clean things up for you.
Thank you.

I appreciate your previous attempt. And I am sorry, but I detected couple of
your mistakes.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo modprobe snd_cmipci isapnp=0 port=0x220
mpu_port=0x330 dma1=1 dma2=5 irq=5 fm_port=0x388
Here, snd_cmipci should have been fixed as snd-cmipci (If this doesn't work,
then try $ sudo modprobe snd-card-cmipci )

Second, when you use mkdir at the /usr/src, you have to use 'sudo'.
Thus, the command should be
$ sudo mkdir alsa

Thank you for your time.

[Bug 127874] Re: no audio from HP laptop

2007-07-25 Thread Sunny Shin
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Could you please add the output requested in the
Reporting Sound Bugs section of
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSoundProblems as separate
attachments? Additionally, what release of Ubuntu do you happen to be
running? Thanks in advance.
