[Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi

2016-06-17 Thread TT Mooney
I see the same problem when coming out of suspend:

Ubuntu 16.04 Unity, Dell XPS 13 9333 (Sputnik 3), Intel Wireless 7260.
Ubuntu 16.04 Unity, Lenovo Thinkpad X220, Intel Wireless 6205.

If I restart the network-manager service, it recovers until the next
suspend:

sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service

On boot, the systems do show a list of wireless networks, but with the
Ethernet connected icon. They are unable to join any WiFi network due to
'Insufficient privileges' and do not automatically join known networks.
Once the user is logged in the applet works, until it is put into, and
recovers from, suspend.

[Bug 1416892] Re: Bad WiFi connection and no working Bluetooth with BCM43142

2015-11-28 Thread tt
This problem also happens to my Acer Aspire E5-551G with AMD FX-7500 Radeon R7
and Broadcom Corporation BCM43142 under 14,04, 14.10, 15.04 and 15.10.
Bluetooth doesn't work, following error using the terminal command dmesg:
"Direct firmware load for brcm/BCM.hcd failed with error -2". I hope to get a
solution soon. It is a bit irritating to own a new laptop, but not able to use
WiFi and Bluetooth.

[Bug 876285] [NEW] Logitech diNovo Edge bluetooth keyboard disconnects immediately after connecting (regression)

2011-10-17 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
Public bug reported:

On Oneiric (11.10) the logitech diNovo edge keyboard no longer works.
It used to function with the supplied dongle (which was recognized as a regular
USB keyboard/mouse combo under natty and earlier. Unfortunately now it is
recognized as a bluetooth dongle.

I can pair the keyboard to either the built in bluetooth or the
bluetooth dongle, but only once after reboot. The next time I try it
connects but immediately disconnects (after less than a second). I've
tried it with the gnome-shell bluetooth extension as well as using
blueman. Blueman gives better fedback but the problem seems to be the
same in both cases.

Is there way to blacklist the logitech dongle so it doesn't get

2010-01-13 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
I can confirm this behaviour on a Dell Studio XPS 13 with the same
Atheros card:

06:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Atheros Communications Inc. AR928X
Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) [168c:002a] (rev 01)

THis computer is running Ubuntu 9.10 with all updates:

Linux tak-xps 2.6.31-17-generic #54-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 10 17:01:44 UTC
2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

[Bug 344748] [NEW] harsh crashes during mdadm rebuild [SCARING!!!]

2009-03-18 Thread tt-ric
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mdadm

Ubuntu 8.04 on a Intel Xeon Quad X3220, 8GB RAM DDR2 no ecc, m/b Intel
S3200SHC (extensively tested with memtest86 and intel EFI tools)

had some problems (soft lockups) two months ago, soon after fresh
installation of Ubuntu and Vmware Server 2, seemed resolved by
downgrading to 2.6.24-18 and blacklisting iTCO_wdt

now I've upgraded to 8.04.2 and moved on new disks with (md) raid 1

rebuilding the largest partition, I obtained several crashes with no log

the last, logged, is

[Bug 43092] Re: CompactFlash PCMCIA disk is not detected

2008-12-23 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
Informal testing indicates that this problem has gone away with the
latest kernel updates. Now running 2.6.27-9-generic on my thinkpad x40
and the CF card gets mounted correctly after boot and suspend. I'll do
more rigorous testing after christmas.

[Bug 287215] Re: [intrepid] xmodmap settings not getting honored when keyboard devices are hotplugged

2008-11-21 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
I can confirm this behaviour on a thinkpad x40. the .Xmodmap is applied
on boot, but plugging in a USB keyboard (in this case an IBM W20-06) the
settings don't get applied to the hotplugged keyboard (but remain
applied on the built-in keyboard).

Running xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap solves that issue, but only until
suspend/resume or replugging the keyboard at which point i need to run
the command again.

[Bug 294070] [NEW] Nokia e66 no recognized as 3g modem

2008-11-05 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal-info

Very similar to a series of other bug reports about Nokia phones, the
Nokia E66 is not recognized as a 3g modem in Intrepid Ibex.

However adding 0xb0 to line 347 of
/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/10-modem.fdi
fixes the problem.

The line then looks like this:
match key=@info.parent:usb.product_id
int_outof=0x4f9;0x64;0x2f;0xab;0x418;0x4f0;0x4ce;0x43a;0x44d;0x42;0x72;0x70;0x3a;0xb0

and the relevant line from lsusb when the phone is connected in PC
Suite mode is:

Bus 003 Device 012: ID 0421:00b0 Nokia Mobile Phones

According to the other bug reports this bug is in package hal-info

[Bug 294095] [NEW] Unable to connect to WPA2 encrypted network with atheros card

2008-11-05 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

After upgrading to Intrepid Network-Manager can no longer reliably
connect to WPA2 encrypted networks.

I've installed test packages from the network-manager PPA, but that doesn't
seem to change anything. This may well be a duplicate of Bug #292054, but since
i'm unsure i've filed a separate bug here.

I've attached output from syslog, daemon.log and wpa_supplicant.log

The process i went through while logging was:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo killall NetworkManager

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo rmmod ath_pci

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo modprobe ath_pci

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo NetworkManager

Then NM auto-connected to my WEP encrypted network vbg145b_st, after
which i clicked the nm-applet, chose the WPA2 encrypted network
TTsPlace entered the password at the prompt, and waited about 1 minute
while it tried to connect. It then showed me the password prompt again,
i entered the same password and tried again. After another minute or so
it failed and reconnected to the vbg145b_St network.

This behaviour was the same before i upgraded to the PPA packages.

BEcause it was mentioned in the other bug (#292054), it may be worth
mentioning here. The access point is a WAP2 encrypted Fon Fonera. And
i've also tried connecting to a WAP2 encrypted Accton access point from
open-mesh.com which is the same hardware as the Fon AP but different
firmware.

Hardware Info:
Thinkpad x40 with atheros wireless card.

[Bug 259157] Re: [MASTER 0.7 regression] atheros/madwifi and orinoco drivers not supported

2008-11-05 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
Another correction. Using ath5k only works sometimes. I'm not sure when
and why, but it fails in some situations in a manner similar to ath_pci
but with differetn error messages.

Also, i tried swapping mini-pci cards between my thinkpad x31 and my
thinkpad x40, with very strange results. The x31 has an ipw2100 wireless
card and runs intrepid also. It works fgine with the intel card, and
also, in a very short test worked well with the atheros card. The x40 on
the other hand, has had all kinfds of issues with the atheros card, and
with the intel card failed to load firmware. So perhaps there's
something else wrong with the installation on my x40.

[Bug 294393] [NEW] Nokia e66 cannot unmount/eject

2008-11-05 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
Public bug reported:

Running intrepid ibex and connecting my Nokia e66 via usb and PC Suite
mode works perfectly except i cannot get the phone to acknowledge an
unmount in any way.

I've tried the usual, i.e. unmounting via nautilus, the desktop icons
etc. And everything seems fine on the linux side of things, i.e. the
system says that the device is safe to remove. Unfortunately the nokia
phone does not react at all, and disconnecting the phone results in data
corruption, and the phone needing to repair the file system.

The result is the same if i issue sudo eject /dev/sdc/. The eject
command completes successfully, but the phone doesn't react, and hence i
get the same potential data corruption and repair process on the phone.

So far the only solution is to switch off the computer, which of course
isn't the way i'd like to handle my phone.

I'm stuck on this issue because prior to 2.6.27 there was a file
power/state somewhere in the usb subsection of ysfs, and one could echo
a 0 into that file to shut down power to the usb port. unfortunately
that's no longer the case in 2.6.27.

[Bug 128790] Re: Nokia's N80 Data Transfer USB profile fails to umount

2008-11-04 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
I've done some more tests with my current setup, and if I actually
transfer data to my phone while connected via USB, no matter what
commands i issue, when i disconnect the phone, and try to use the data i
wrote, i get a message from the phone that there is corrupted data on
the disk, and it goes off to repair said data. The only way to avoid
this seems to be to power down the computer before i disconnect the
phone.

I realize this is probably due to bad implementation on nokias side, but
i'd really appreciate a way to work around this. I don't mind futsing
with sysfs or issuing weird commands, but this is a show-stopper in my
daily use of Intrepid.

BTW, what would it take to change the status of this bug from
Incomplete?

[Bug 128790] Re: Nokia's N80 Data Transfer USB profile fails to umount

2008-10-31 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
As mentioned, this problem persists after upgrading to intrepid. I now
have a Nokia E66, which is a fairly new model, and hence there is very
little information available as to how this problem affects others.

When I plug in the phone, the phone asks me whether to plug in as mass
storage device, pc suite connection or modem, but linux mounts the card
correctly whether i make a selection or not.

At this point the output of
$ lsusb -m

Now i go to nautilus to unmount the device, and this has no effect on
dmesg or on the device, but adds this to the lsusb -m output

09:27:24.336: volume_uuid_0331_5F86 property volume.mount_point = ''
09:27:24.368: volume_uuid_0331_5F86 property volume.is_mounted = false

So i try
$ sudo eject /dev/sdc (which used to work with my nokia 6110 phone)

and this command takes 30 seconds to complete and has no effect on lsusb
-m, but adds these lines to dmesg output:

[35702.960138] usb 2-2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
[35713.220064] usb 2-2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3

But still no effect on the phone.

With older kernels it was possible to echo a 1 directly into sysfs
power/state file for the device, but that file doesn't seem to exist with newer
kernels, so i'm pretty much stuck for now.
If i disconnect the phone at this point everything sems to be fine, until i
open an application that reads from the memory card (usually the music player).
At this point the phone sometimes tells me it needs to repair a corrupted
memory card, and spends a good 30 seconds doing that. On other occasions it
seems to work fine, so i'm not sure what the net effect of this issue is except
that it's a bit disconcerting that unmounting in nautilus doesn't work, and
that even after using the eject command with sudo i get no feedback.

Let me know what other info you might need.

[Bug 120549] Re: power manger shows always the same capacity of logitech mouse

2008-10-27 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
Here is the output from the above commands on my thinkpad X40 running
hardy. It's worth noting that unlike my x31 on this machine the mouse
battery level is shown at a constant 100%. No more correct than the 14%
shown on my other computer, but much less annoying, since it doesn't
trigger critical battery warnings.

[Bug 43092] Re: CompactFlash PCMCIA disk is not detected

2008-08-29 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
OK, I've run the first basic tests after installing

linux-image-2.6.27-1-generic
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.27-1-generic

from the intrepid repo, on a Thinkpad x40 running hardy, the CF card
mounts correctly after boot, and seems to behave exactly as expected.
There are a few other minor niggles with this kernel, but if it is
otherwise stable, i'll keep it loaded next week and report back here if
the CF card still acts the way it should.

Thanks for the update, now i can't wait for the intrepid final :-)

stops working again after reboot.

[Bug 120549] Re: power manger shows always the same capacity of logitech mouse

2008-05-14 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
I can confirm this for a logitech codless optical trackman , except i only have
14% battery on mine.
This battery level has been the same for at least a few versions of ubuntu. I
am currently running hardy heron, on a IBM thinkpad X31.

There is an unfortunate downside to this minor issue: Since 14% is
considered critical battery level, i get an annoying pop-up warning
every time i plug in the trackball, and the gnome power manager applet
constantly shows the battery level of the mouse instead of the battery-
level of the laptop, making it effectively useless as a power-manager
applet.

Just to add, that this bug also prevents shorewall from running properly
if it is started with traffic control enabled, i.e. if
/etc/shorewall/shorewall.conf has the line

TC_ENABLED=Internal

which i believe is default for shorewall

[Bug 218820] Re: 8.04 fails to boot with kernel 2.6.24-15 or 2.6.24-16

2008-04-21 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
I can confirm this bug, on my Intel Mac Mini, I get the exact same
error. Unfortunately after the latest update, the 2.6.22 kernel fell off
the bottom of my grub menu, and I can no longer boot the computer at
all.

I had to boot off the CD, go into rescue mode, and add more kernel
options to grub, just to get the 2.6.22 kernel option back.

Anything newer than that, and the system fails to boot.

[Bug 207409] Re: [HARDY] xserver-xorg does not auto-configure correctly

2008-04-07 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
I have a situation here, where it seems that the X autoconfiguration
works fine, but my monitor refuses to show any output with the refresh
rates chosen, thus even when autoconfiguration works, there is a need
for text-based tools to reconfigure. Since I have no output from X i
cannot login and reconfigure.

It also makes it hard for me to report a bug, as suggested, because
there really is no error, except that my monitor cannot show the same
resolution and refresh rate as my laptop.

[Bug 207409] Re: [HARDY] xserver-xorg does not auto-configure correctly

2008-04-07 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
Just an additional update:

I have now tried remote logging in with a vnc viewer and running
displayconfig-gtk, but have been unable to actually change my
displaysettings this way. This pretty much makes hardy unusable on my
setup, as i have no idea how to get a xserver display on my screen. So
either i have to buy a new screen or revert to gutsy, neither og which i
relish. And this on a mac mini where the xserver settings are all
detected correctly

[Bug 105545] Re: HUAWEI E220 no longer works in Feisty

2007-10-12 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
I'm on the current release candidate of gutsy, and have similar issues.
I've had the modem working under feisty and it's now working under gutsy
by using the workaround described here:

http://wwwu.uni-klu.ac.at/agebhard/HuaweiE220/

After inserting the modem i get what looks like a CD-rom mount. I
unmount that first (right-click and unmount) and then run the following
script (after compiling the huaweiAktBbo.c program):

#/bin/sh
sudo modprobe -r option
sudo modprobe -r usbserial
sleep 5
sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1003
sleep 5
sudo /usr/local/sbin/huaweiAktBbo
sudo wvdial tre

The huaweiAktBbo program gives me /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1, before
running it I have neither.

I've attached the lsusb output and my syslog output upon attaching the
modem to the laptop.

[Bug 61405] Re: acpid: sleep and suspend no longer work in Edgy

2006-10-04 Thread Tomas 'tt' Krag
I would like to confirm this behaviour on an IBM thinkpad x31, upgraded
from dapper to edgy.

suspending and hibernating blanks the screen (as per screensaver setup)
and starts the moon LED blinking, but nothing firther happens. Only
hard shutdown will bring the machine back.
