2011-06-26 Thread Tamas Papp
I've made some ivestigation.

I reinstalled with Natty than dist-upgrade: same result.
I reinstalled with Oneiric daily dvd: same result.

If I changed from gdm to lightdm, I got the login windows, but
completely frozen as no keyboard or mouse response. I tried with
nomodeset, doesn't count.

[Bug 802124] [NEW] X server does not start

2011-06-26 Thread Tamas Papp
Public bug reported:

I installed Natty than upgraded to Onieric.

When I start the computer, gdm is not starting many times. Sometimes it's OK.
I don't see what is the difference when it's success and when it's not.

See the reports, please.
I assume it's a xorg and/or upstart problem.

[Bug 801123] [NEW] sshd init script does not use the option "--pidfile"

2011-06-23 Thread Tamas Papp
Public bug reported:

The problem described in #277120, but it's closed with INVALID.

So again, the option --pidfile is not used in the init script, because it's
value gets overwritten by sshd_config settings.
It should get the right value from the config file, which is defined in
/etc/default/ssh- in a perfect world.

The name of the default file should come from the name of the init
script.

This all is necessary for a multi instance setup.

[Bug 791784] [NEW] unity crashes very often

2011-06-02 Thread Tamas Papp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Jun 2 12:26:15 ctu gnome-session[6223]: Gdk-WARNING: gnome-session: Fatal IO
error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.#012
This is in syslog, nothing more.

I'm not sure, but it could be related to Firefox. It does it very often,
when I use it, but does not depend on the loaded page or function of the
page.

When it crashes, I get back gdm login.

[Bug 772235] [NEW] xfs_check eats up memory

2011-04-28 Thread Tamas Papp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfsprogs

There is two problems.

space.

2. On kernel 2.6.32 it was killed by kernel, on 2.6.38 the system freeze
up until cold reboot. It responses to ping, but cannot be accessed
through ssh. In this case there is no log messages in syslog.

On 2.6.32:

[Bug 767108] [NEW] please package new version (3.3.1), include standard C language API

2011-04-20 Thread Tamas Papp
Public bug reported:

The new version (3,3.1) came out in April 2011. Please update the
package, especially because compiling shared libraries from the LAPACK
sources is a bit tricky.

This version of LAPACK also contains the new Standard C language APIs
for LAPACK (result of a collaboration between LAPACK and the INTEL Math
Kernel Library). If possible, it would be really nice to have this
either in liblapack or in a separate package.

[Bug 542037] Re: Console not available with Avocent DSView 3 KVM

2010-04-05 Thread Tamas Papp
I have and update with a partial solution. If I disable KMS, I see the
login prompt correctly:

dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc -> Linux default command line ->
radeon.modeset=1

and/or:

echo options radeon modeset=0 > /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf

This is not a full solution, still I can't see the grub menu.

BTW, already plymouth package cannot be removed:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
apparmor* apparmor-utils* apport* at* cron* dmsetup* e2fsprogs*
friendly-recovery* ftp* hostname* ifupdown* initramfs-tools* initscripts*
irqbalance*

rsyslog* telnet* ubuntu-standard* udev* upstart* ureadahead* util-linux*

Why?

[Bug 542037] Re: Console not available with Avocent DSView 3 KVM

2010-03-31 Thread Tamas Papp
I've just installed a HP DL160 machine and it's works perfectly if I remove
plymouth package (BTW why is it installed by default on a server?).
It has a Matrox G200 VGA card, I don't know whether it matters. DL380 has ATI.

If I remove plymouth on DL 380 _sometimes_ I don't know why, I see the
boot messages and the login prompt for a moment and it losts the signal
only after that. Unfortunately I really don't see, what it depends on.

[Bug 542037] [NEW] Console not available with Avocent DSView 3 KVM

2010-03-19 Thread Tamas Papp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-server

Until Karmic everything worked fine, I can see the console of the remote
server.

If I upgrade the server to Lucid, I get only "NO SIGNAL" right after
grub/initrd loading it starts booting. Unfortunately I don't
see exactly, when it goes away.

I tried every kind of vga= settings, nothing helped.

I asked about it on ubuntu-users list and somebody else also reported
it.

No, I haven't been able to reproduce it.

Any hints on how to try it? It seems that the connection to my
external monitor being plugged in may have been a coincidence.

[Bug 460261] [NEW] man pages have lines cut off

2009-10-25 Thread Tamas Papp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libblas-doc

Eg in DSYRK(3),

- cut -
NAME
DSYRK - perform one of the symmetric rank k operations C := alpha*A*A'
+ beta*C,

SYNOPSIS
- cut -

But NAME should continue - look at the Fortran source code, which has

- cut -
* DSYRK performs one of the symmetric rank k operations
*
* C := alpha*A*A' + beta*C,
*
*  or
*
* C := alpha*A'*A + beta*C,
- cut -

I guess that the man pages are autogenerated and the script detects
boundaries wrong. Likewise in the PURPOSE section of man pages.

[Bug 433129] Re: org-mode is not loaded

2009-09-19 Thread Tamas Papp
I found that the bug was caused by an error in a user script, hence this
is not a bug in any Ubuntu package.

Please delete this bug. I am sorry for the noise. - Tamas

[Bug 433129] [NEW] org-mode is not loaded

2009-09-19 Thread Tamas Papp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: org-mode

When I am trying to use org-mode (eg by opening a file with .org
extension, using the agenda, etc) I get the following error message in
Emacs:

Autoloading failed to define function org-mode

(using the development version of org-mode works just fine, by the way).

I am using karmic (latest), with

$ apt-cache policy emacs-snapshot org-mode

[Bug 373782] Re: [jaunty] bug when umounting the root partition

2009-06-22 Thread Tamas Papp
I run into this bug yesterday. It was really annoying.

Accidently I typed 'umount /'. Then I reboototed the box and logon to it
again by ssh. Unfortunately I didn't check, that is was still not
rebooted, because apache was working (it's a server): I thought, it was
just up again.

Later my client called me, that postfix was not working due to some
operation not permitted and other strange failures.

I checked the logs, and ttys were killed, mysql were stopped (not
really, because the web pages still were using it successfully), when I
run 'reboot', but that's all.

It's absolutely a bug, please fix it. Even if it's possible, in 8.04 too.

Thank you.
