[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2011-04-23 Thread The Compiler
Still rarely seems to happen to me, not using any virtualisation.

Also, it seems to always happen after I do "sudo service gdm restart" in
a tty.

[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2011-04-06 Thread The Compiler
@Rodrigo: Nope, didn't help. Still having the issue. To me, it seems
gdm's gnome-settings-daemon is still there after the login, and is there
for a minute or so. Because sometimes (or maybe even always, have to
check) when this issue happens, I seem to have a orange-like theme, and
after some seconds it switches to the boxy ugly theme.

If I can do anything else to help, please let me know!

2011-04-05 Thread The Compiler
@Rodrigo: Yup, removed it. Will be able to tell if it got better in a
few hours/days :)

Also, I'm still wondering why I can't kill gdm's gnome-settings-daemon
with a SIGTERM, only with a SIGKILL. Am I the only one having that
issue?

Installed UbuntuOne here. Not using it though.

I also have no .Xmodmap. I do this on startup however:

[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2011-04-01 Thread The Compiler
Rodrigo, for me, the sleep-workaround didn't help in any way, either
(even with sleep 5 or sleep 10). And I'm on the fast end :)

As said, for me, gdm's gnome-settings-daemon seems to actually hang
after I'm logging in. Still seems to be some kind of a race condition,
as this only happens maybe 1 in 15 times or so.

[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2011-04-01 Thread The Compiler
Still not fixed for me either.

Latest beta, i7 640-LM, OCZ Vertex 2 SSD.

My session is a bit special, I don't start a normal gnome. It looks like
this:

florian@hermione ~ % cat /usr/share/xsessions/compiler.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Compiler
Comment=AWN and compiz
Exec=gnome-session --session=compiler
TryExec=gnome-session
Icon=
Type=Application
X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=gnome-session-2.0

florian@hermione ~ % cat /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/compiler.session
[GNOME Session]
Name=Ubuntu
Required=windowmanager;panel;
Required-windowmanager=compiz
Required-panel=avant-window-navigator
DefaultApps=gnome-settings-daemon;

mb21, anything like this applies to you as well?

Also, when I'm in the session, I cannot kill the original gnome-settings-daemon
with a SIGTERM, only a SIGKILL seems to do something...
Also, for some reason, it does not happen when I use a self-baked zen kernel.

[Bug 356504] Re: easystroke crashed with SIGSEGV in __kernel_vsyscall()

2011-02-16 Thread The Compiler
Just happened to me as well, with Ubuntu 11.04 with a custom kernel based on
the Zen kernel (2.6.37-zen).
seems randomly, hasn't happened before (well, okay, I'm using easystroke since
yesterday). For some reason, an applet in my awn-panel and Pidgin crashed as
well.

X.Org X Server 1.9.99.901 (1.10.0 RC 1)

If I can contribute anything else meaningful, please let me know, not really
sure what else could be useful.

[Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2011-02-02 Thread The Compiler
I also have the same problem.

Intel i7-620LM, OCZ Vertex 2 SSD, Intel Corporation Core Processor
Integrated Graphics Controller (in the i7). So this doesn't seem to be a
NVidia issue. The sleeping workaround didn't work for me (starting a
gnome-session without a gnome-panel nor metacity, but with compiz and
avant-window-navigator). I ended up replacing gdm by kdm, which worked
perfectly.

[Bug 702701] Re: awn-settings won't launch on Natty

2011-01-29 Thread The Compiler
As a workaround until this is fixed:

- Open /usr/bin/awn-settings in a text editor, e.g.:
gksu gedit /usr/bin/awn-settings

- On line 1255, change
store = gtk.ListStore(str, gtk.gdk.Pixbuf, str)
 to
store = gtk.ListStore(str, gtk.gdk.Pixbuf, int)

Works like a charm afterwards for me.

[Bug 674791] Re: natty guest session has many panel applets crash

2010-11-26 Thread The Compiler
The same happens to me with the normal account, I think it might have
started happening after I first used the guest account. Using gnome-
panel 2.32.1 as well as compiz 0.9.2.1 with some custom settings.

After everything crashes I only see the menu (cardapio, 3rd party menu),
the clock, and a launcher. Everything else doesn't seem to run, even if
I click restart.

[Bug 401823] Re: Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

2010-09-09 Thread The Compiler
What's the * for? You don't really want to remove every file starting
with ".xsession-errors", you ONLY want to remove the file ".xsession-
errors". I'd suggest doing:

sh -c 'rm -f ~/.xsession-errors'

[Bug 565810] Re: packages.medibuntu.org not available

2010-04-21 Thread The Compiler
- Using mirrors won't help anything, as the main server is down, so
there are no packages updates at all anyway. So there is no point in
using a mirror at all.

- As pointed out several times before, this is NOT a forum. PLEASE move
discussions to http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9150507
I'm subscribed to this bug, and it is fairly annoying to get disturbed by an
email all 10 minutes just to see someone else has posted a comment to this bug,
which doesn't really belong to this bug anyway.

Thanks.

[Bug 565810] Re: packages.medibuntu.org not available

2010-04-19 Thread The Compiler
@Ignacio Larrain, I'd add a -F to that grep (i.e. grep -vF), because
without that, . would be taken as a placeholder for "any character".
Wouldn't be too important in that case, though ;). Also are you sure his
isn't a race condition or something? It looks quite dangerous as it's
reading from and writing to the same file. Maybe the safer thing to do
would be:

sed -i '/packages\.medibuntu\.org/d' /etc/hosts
