[Bug 2060188] Re: byobu causes PackageKit to flood journal with get-updates transaction

2024-04-09 Thread theo
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1828115 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1828115

Hi mitchdz,

I only used the F1 Menu to customize my notification bar.
The issue only appears when updates_available is enabled.

However it seems I made a mistake in opening this bug report, since I am not
using ubuntu but arch and as such the respective package from the arch repo.
There appears to be a bug report filed for the byobu package itself where this
is addressed, however it has sat stale for almost 5 years now.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/byobu/+bug/1828115

I will mark this as duplicate.

[Bug 2060188] [NEW] byobu causes PackageKit to flood journal with get-updates transaction

2024-04-04 Thread theo
Public bug reported:

I have noticed this unexpected behavior with byobu.
If running, the systemd journal is flooded with the following message:

PackageKit[4142]: get-updates transaction /157_ebecbabd from uid 1000
finished with success after 1ms

The transaction changes, but the rest remains the same.
It causes a message to be generated every second.

I think this is caused if byobu is set to check for available updates,
as this behavior disappears if "available updates" in the status bar is
disabled.

There appear to be bug reports regarding this, on secondary packages:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1980327
https://github.com/PackageKit/PackageKit/issues/322

System info:
byobu version 5.133
tmux 3.4

[Bug 1883887] [NEW] Focal installer destroyed my datasets

2020-06-17 Thread Theo Markettos
Public bug reported:

I installed focal about a month about, using the desktop installer with
the 'experimental' ZFS root option. I've been running ZFS on FreeBSD
for about 10 years and figured I could handle any sharp edges. It's
installed to a single 2TB SSD - no RAID, no L2ARC/ZIL, no dedup, nothing
complicated. Machine is an Intel S2600CP2, 2x E5-2670 v1, 128GiB RAM.

The machine stayed up for a few weeks, until I had cause to physically
move it and so shut it down. It turned out GRUB had installed onto the
wrong disk which I'd removed in the intervening time. It wouldn't boot,
so I booted the focal desktop installer from a USB stick to give me a
shell to fix things. I didn't run the actual installer, I just booted
to the installer desktop and then did Ctrl-Alt-F1, apt install openssh-
server, and then logged in via SSH.

Then I followed some instructions about mounting the pool in a chroot (Step 3):
https://askubuntu.com/questions/826209/re-initialise-grub-for-non-bootable-uefi-zfs-16-04-installation
This took a couple of goes to get right as the first time I tried to mount on
top of the installer (without zpool import -R) and many filesystems couldn't
replace preexisting mounts, so I exported and re-imported. Anyway, I succeeded
in mounting, and then doing update-grub. However, looking at the zpool history
-il log while I was in the installer I see:
(full zpool history -il log attached)

Here something that wasn't the command line - and so I assume is zsys -
deleted all the datasets I made in rpool/USERDATA. This was about 1TiB

Needless to say, nothing should be destroying user datasets.

[Bug 1874343] Re: Thunar hangs for several seconds on first launch

2020-04-24 Thread Theo Linkspfeifer
The Xfce session starts Thunar as daemon process which provides a D-Bus
interface for various file manager actions.

Is this process created for you? Does killing any running Thunar process
(thunar -q) and opening the folder again trigger the bug too?

2020-01-07 Thread Theo Linkspfeifer
Thunar uses different wording, so this is actually a bug in Nautilus.

** Package changed: thunar (Ubuntu) => nautilus (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- Thunar closes down when Rename -> Find and replace text. No error message. It
just closes.
+ Nautilus closes down when Rename -> Find and replace text. No error message.
It just closes.

2019-08-11 Thread Theo Shaw
For what it's worth I'm getting a very similar issue on Linux Mint
Cinnamon after the update from 19.1 to 19.2. The error is:

 cinnamon: ../src/gallium/drivers/radeonsi/si_state_viewport.c:239:
si_emit_guardband: Assertion `left <= -1 && top <= -1 && right >= 1 &&
bottom >= 1' failed.

I've found that the positions of monitors in a dual monitor setup
dictates whether or not the DE crashes on startup. See this thread:
https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon/issues/8754 Hopefully the problem
is identical for you guys and a patch can fix both issues at once.

[Bug 1835668] Re: Locking screen on live system no longer possible with Xubuntu 18.10/19.04

2019-07-12 Thread Theo Linkspfeifer
It was disabled due to bug 1421443.

Now with Xubuntu 19.10 and the switch to xfce4-screensaver it may be
possible to enable it again. Note that this new change only disables the
lock setting, and not the autostart entry.

[Bug 1063140]

2019-06-11 Thread Theo Linkspfeifer
Created attachment 8624
wip patch

A first attempt. This implementation is not ideal, because in some cases
it does not strictly pair the right-click or drop event with the actual
file creation.

The feature can be activated via the new setting "/desktop-icons/create-
under-cursor".
