[Bug 1353355] Re: Chromium randomly crashes when I download a PDF

2018-07-18 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Hi Paul,

Somewhere between switching to Chromium 50+, then to Firefox, then Arch
Linux this issue got fixed. I could run a bisection search on my setup,
but I don't think that will add anything for you. Thanks for checking in
though.

Is there any way I can mark this bug as "expired" quicker than waiting
59 days for the janitor to pick it up?

[Bug 1625517] [NEW] Clicking inside address bar does not update PRIMARY buffer (middle-mouse clipboard)

2016-09-20 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Public bug reported:

When I click in the address bar once, the entire URL is selected. In most other
applications, this is an indicator that my PRIMARY buffer [1] has been updated
with the full URL.
However, when I MMB-paste, the previous contents of the buffer appear. This has
tripped me up on many occasions.

Steps to reproduce:

1: Open a text editor, or any other recepticle for pasted text.
2: Select some text on a page.
3: Middle-click in the text editor, and verify that it's the text you selected
in step 2.
4: Click the address bar in Chromium. The URL is highlighted.
5: Middle-click in the text editor again.
6: Hit Ctrl+z. Frustratedly go back to your browser. Click the address bar
once, then again to deselect everything. Then drag or triple-click to select
all.
7: Middle-click in the text editor again. Now it works.

Expected results:
In step 5, the full URL of the page you were visiting should have appeared.
However, it's still the text you selected in step 2.

I'm using Chromium version 52.0.2743.116 Built on Ubuntu , running on Ubuntu
16.04 (64-bit)

[1]: I'm not shouting, this is what it's called. It's also known as the
"middle-mouse clipboard". See also

[Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5

2015-12-01 Thread Thijs van Dijk
First of all, yes, this has been fixed in Wily; thanks, everyone!

Secondly, if it still somehow doesn't work for you, you can easily (for some
value of "easy") revert by booting into a recovery shell in GRUB and simply
executing `apt-get remove fglrx fglrx-updates`. See the wiki page "Recovery
Mode" on the ubuntu wiki for more details:

[Bug 1353355] [NEW] Chromium randomly crashes when I download a PDF

2014-08-06 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Public bug reported:

When I click a link in chromium that would download a PDF, about 95% of
the time it works just fine (the file shows up in my download shelf; I
can click to open it in evince), but for that last 5%, clicking the link
crashes my browser entirely. (Every tab/window.)

After restarting the browser, retrying the exact same link usually
works.

I'm currently using Chromium 36 on ubuntu 14.04, but this issue has been
present for quite a while now. I've installed the debug symbols for
chromium, and will update with a stack trace if I get one.

[Bug 1352963] [NEW] Evince incorrectly reports password-protected pdf

2014-08-05 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1) Download this PDF:
https://secure.ikea.com/ms/nl_NL/TnC/IKEA-webwinkel-voorwaarden.pdf
2) Open it in evince.

If you try the same in acrobat reader (I only tried it on windows), it
opens just fine. So either this file isn't encrypted at all but evince
merely says it is, or, for reasons beyond my comprehension, the file is
encrypted, but the password is somehow embedded in the document itself.

Either way, the end result is a broken user experience for ubuntuers.

[Bug 1213385] [NEW] When printing to file, the save in folder option is ignored

2013-08-17 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Public bug reported:

When saving a web page to PDF, the resulting file is always placed in
the user's home folder.

Steps to reproduce:
 * Hit file - print in any app that doesn't implement its own print
dialogs. (Firefox is fine.)
 *  Select save to file
 * Under save in folder, choose any other folder than the homedir. (e.g.
/tmp)
 *  Click Print

No file is created in /tmp, but instead it's saved in your homedir.

[Bug 1205202] [NEW] Can't upgrade/remove gnome-robots

2013-07-26 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Public bug reported:

Dpkg throws an error rm: cannot remove ‘/var/games/’: Is a directory,
and then fails with status 1.

Turns out there's a typo in the postrm script.
I manually edited /var/lib/dpkg/info/gnome-robots.postrm to read FILE instead
of FILES (see patch below), and now it deinstalls just fine.

[Bug 1043317] [NEW] Description of matlab-support is misleading

2012-08-29 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Public bug reported:

In the Ubuntu Software Center, the package matlab-support is listed as MATLAB
- Scientific computing environment.
This name implies that the package installs matlab itself.

However, only when you read the extended description of the package will
one discover the text This package does not provide MATLAB. Instead, it
configures an existing MATLAB installation to integrate more comfortably
in a Debian installation.

This would be a minor inconvenience of not for bug 1025648, which makes it
virtually impossible to cancel installation without somehow obtaining a copy of
matlab.
Bug 1025648 needs to be fixed, but in the meantime maybe it's a good idea to
rename this package to, for instance, Support files for Matlab.

Silly question; those are the same key.
I just tried it myself, and it works for me. Which exact layout are you using?
Mine's simply called Russia.

[Bug 796864] Re: Can't use AltGr on a French MacBook

2011-07-22 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and making Ubuntu better.
Perhaps your suggestion would be a good idea, although the apple keys have
their own use in Ubuntu as super modifiers.

Could you attach a picture of your keyboard, so the developers will know
what they're dealing with?

Well, have you tried just leaving the space there, without quotes or escaping

This is an XML file after all, so it's already escaped.

I've created the attached file, and it works for me.

[Bug 814352] Re: micro sd card was erased when inserted

2011-07-22 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

Right now, you could help us greatly by answering the following questions:
1. Did this happen just once, or does it happen every time you plug in your
card?
2. Do you know how your card was formatted? (i.e. which filesystem is used)
3. How did you verify that the data was successfully written to the card in the
first place?
4. What type of micro-sd reader did you use?
Thanks!

[Bug 814024] [NEW] Sound Preferences dialog has no effect on GDM login sound

2011-07-21 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Public bug reported:

(This is a spinoff of bug 798579)
The Sound Preferences dialog should mirror the play login sound checkbox

another box to be unticked to completely disable all sounds. Currently, this is
not obvious.

[Bug 808498] Re: default LS_COLORS are annoyingly unreadable

2011-07-21 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Though there's a fine line between looks terrible and illegible, I would
agree that the default terminal profile could do with a readability update.
Especially image files -- shown in purple -- can be very hard do decipher
against the semi-transparent purplish black background.

[Bug 813614] [NEW] Window manager crashes whenever I maximize minecraft

2011-07-20 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Public bug reported:

Whenever I accidentally maximize minecraft, (when I drag it too near the top of
the screen) all window borders disappear.
Running unity --replace will fix this, but all open windows will move to the
same desktop.

Using compiz on natty (fully updated; x86_64).

It would therefore be very nice if a next version of the sound indicator
would allow one to pipe all audio to a network host.

[Bug 812234] Re: site impossible to use with firefox

2011-07-18 Thread Thijs van Dijk
The window you describe is an error message from the site itself. It in
turn is caused by an invalid javascript file.

This is a problem on dubail.fr's end; not a bug in firefox.
Perhaps you can try to notify the site owners.

Most websites facilitate the 'Remember me' option through the use of
cookies. Could you verify that cookies are being set?

Specifically, check if the 'Accept cookies from sites' box is checked, and if
the 'Keep until' option is set to 'they expire'.
Both these options can be found on the 'Privacy' tab in the preferences window.

[Bug 811444] Re: Not possible to install Knotes in 11.04 64-bit

2011-07-18 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Judging by the error message, it looks like there was an error at the
Swedish ubuntu mirror. It is therefore quite possible that they fixed it
while you were switching sessions.

For the benefit of this bug report, could you uninstall Knotes and
verify that it's still broken under Unity 2D?

[Bug 810423] [NEW] Window title won't update

2011-07-14 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Public bug reported:

I find that in Natty (x86_64; fully updated) windows seem reluctant to update
their title.
I've found three affected programs so far, but I suspect there are more.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Using totem:
1) Open a video file (for instance, A.ogv) in totem
2) Double click a different video file (B.ogv) in nautilus
3) totem will play B.ogv, but the title will still show A.ogv
4) Resize the window or hit the F key twice. The title now shows B.ogv.

Using nautilus:
1) Open a new nautilus window in a known folder (for instance, /tmp)
2) Navigate to another folder (let's say, /tmp/browser-downloads)
3) The window title bar still shows tmp.
4) Resize the window slightly. The title will now read browser-downloads.

Using GIMP:
1) Open an image in GIMP (for instance, image.jpeg).
2) Hit Ctrl+w, or click File-Close.
3) GIMP's tiny main window will still read image.jpeg.
4) Resize the main window. The title bar will now show GNU Image Manipulation
Program.

[Bug 793450] [NEW] Calendar applet does not show today's date

2011-06-06 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

The calendar applet (the one visible after clicking the clock) is slow
to update its date field. Only after hiding it once, and showing it
again will it update the date.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Log in
2) Run a session for a day or two
3) Open the calendar applet by clicking the clock. Although the date in the
text field is correct, the graphic calendar still shows the date at which you
either originally logged in, or clicked the calendar before.
4) Hide it, and show it once more. The calendar now shows the correct date.

The conflicting visual data can be very confusing if you only summon the
calendar to find out what day it is. (I don't get much sunlight.)

[Bug 489830] Re: Settings of gpointing-device-settings are non-persistent

Martin's fix does not work for my Satellite L555 Ub10.10 64bit.
After setting /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/mouse/active to false, the
problem persists.

If I set /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/pointing-device/active to
false as well, not only are the settings are not persistent after
logout/login, but changing them in gpointing-device-settings has no
effect. (I suppose this last bit was to be expected.)

box suddenly becomes visible. Glad to know you can also just blindly
