[Bug 706458] Re: Clicking on open application in unity should minimize that application
After comment #31, I believe this should be reinstated as a bug. Not just an opinion. Why? Not only does it break with users' expectations, it can actually be counter-productive, and impractical. I should not have to fear minimizing an application while on a touch-screen device! There is no excuse for having the user worry about accidentally closing a window whenever they are trying to minimize it, no matter how careful they try to be, just because. [Bug 881463] [NEW] highlight in alt-tab can be confusing
Public bug reported: When using alt-tab to switch between windows, it may lead to a situation where the user doesn't know which tab is currently selected, because there are many different highlights depending on WHICH application is opened, not their states. [Bug 801351] Re: Cannot summon dash when Firefox is in fullscreen
Just commenting that this happens not just with firefox and chrome, but with all applications that have a fullscreen option with F11. However, I also observed that while the dash itself is not summoned, the current window loses focus, and it would appear that keystrokes are sent elsewhere as well. This made me suspect that maybe the dash was being summoned in the background. However, trying to blindly open an app by tapping it's name after pressing ALT+F2 results in nothing at all... So my theory is not completely right. So I decided to see what is happening behind the full screen window, and set it to a low transparency in compiz. I can confirm now that the dash is indeed summoned, but it remains in the background. Keystrokes do not go for it neither, so I am not sure what window has focus in that situation... ** Summary changed: - Cannot summon dash when Firefox is in fullscreen + Dash remains in background when launched if an application is in fullscreen mode -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/801351 Title: Dash remains in background when launched if an application is in fullscreen mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/801351/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am not sure if the fix is there... I noticed this bug today, by clicking on the notification area applet while using a chat window. [Bug 260469] Re: Unwanted universal access icon appears in sys-tray, cannot be removed
This is not a bug per se. (at least the fact that it is there isn't...) What needs to be done is make it easier to remove it, or state how to do it more clearly. But for anyone that needs to remove this icon, all you need to do is go to: System-Preferences-Keyboard, go to the Accessibility tab and untick the first option (Accessibility features can be toggled with keyboard shortcut). What we need is an easier (i.e more user-friendly/intuitive) way of making this. This would then be more of a wishlist item than a bug, in my opinion. -- Unwanted universal access icon appears in sys-tray, cannot be removed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260469 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 579046] Re: [gm45] emerald hangs after lucid upgrade
sorry i messed up all the tagging and whatnots, I just learned (right now) how to add another package to a bug report... Did not mean to change it thusly... Anyways, as I said a moment ago, I have found a workaround that lets me think that the bug is at least partly related with gnome-appearance- properties. I was able to make everything work normally (i.e emerald works and compiz effects work) albeit temporarily, by doing this. 1. Open up a terminal 2. Type emerald ---nothing happens as emerald just hangs. 3. kill metacity (killall metacity in another terminal would work fine). 4. Launch gnome-appearance-properties (System-Preferences-Appearance) 5. Select the Effects tab and click on Extra. --- a window pops informing that it is looking for drivers. A short while later, the desktop flickers and everything is normal, with emerald happily humming. Notes: The previous workaround will NOT work if emerald is not hanging in the background. As if Appearances cannot launch it on its own. The previous workaround will NOT work if metacity composite is enabled. (but I believe this is already a known bug)... Finally, the workaround is only temporary, as it does not endure after the session is closed. Meaning it must be done each time we log in. (currently, I am using Alt+F2 to run the commands instead of a terminal, so i don't have to worry about closing anything.) On another note, this seems to be settings-specific, as another account on the same computer seems to work with metacity just fine without using the aforementioned workaround. -- [gm45] emerald hangs after lucid upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/579046 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 579046] [NEW] emerald hangs after lucid upgrade
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel This bug is also manifested in other ways, but this is by far the most noticeable. It probably is not a DRI issue, since update5 fixed the disabled DRI from update3. I am not quite sure what exactly is wrong, but ever since I upgraded from Karmic to Lucid, desktop effects took a dive, and the system reverted to using metacity. (in other words, this could be seen as a regression, since it worked fine it Karmic) compiz --replace flickers for about half a second and tries to do something, but I am left with no window borders, and then the screen reverts back to metacity about another half-second or so later. This is what pointed me to check directly with emerald. emerald --replace does not do anything, it just hangs there. No output, no information whatsoever, no trace of anything in the logs. Running emerald by itself with no other WM already running results in the same behavior, so I can't blame metacity for this. Arguably, this could also be a bug against emerald, since it does not do anything but that's a judgment I don't feel qualified to make. [Bug 513920] Re: Gnome Screensaver does not fade out when unlocking
I am not an Average user, I suppose, but this bug IS happening on a pretty much vanilla installation, with changes unrelated to gnome-screensaver. Even the mention of compiz is to help identify the problem, and does not introduce it... I do believe a single developer stumbling upon this might be readily able to fix it in a few hours, so I am volunteering it as a Paper Cut. [Bug 513920] [NEW] Gnome Screensaver does not fade out when unlocking
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver Gnome screensaver does not always fade out when coming back to the desktop. By this I mean, if gnome-screensaver is running, and i enter my password, it is accepted, but I don't get to see the desktop. setting general transparency to less than 95% (using compiz), I can see that all activities are still being recorded underneath the screensaver, and I can kill it by using Alt+F2 and then typing killall gnome-screensaver. Otherwise, whatever screensaver was being displayed on the screen still remains there, until the computer shutdown. Trying to refresh the image by switching to a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and then back to X (Ctrl+Atl+F7) does NOT help. If I set cube in compiz, and unroll the desktop, then I can see that ONLY the desktop is affected, but the skydome is normal/clear. Also, although the mouse does work (somewhat - edges don't actually activate anymore at that time) the cursor is not seen, and mouse position is only implied by it's consequences (i.e, right-clicking, opening a menu, hovering over an interactive area,...) This most often happen when resuming from stand-by, but not always then. However, it seems that if it happens once, it keeps happening until the computer is rebooted. This is happening on a HP ProBook 4510s, running Karmic with all the latest updates installed. lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 9.10 Release:9.10 apt-cache policy gnome-screensaver gnome-screensaver: Installé : 2.28.0-0ubuntu3.3 Candidat : 2.28.0-0ubuntu3.3 Table de version : *** 2.28.0-0ubuntu3.3 0 500 http://ftp.usf.edu karmic-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2.28.0-0ubuntu3.1 0 500 http://ftp.usf.edu karmic-security/main Packages 2.28.0-0ubuntu3 0 500 http://ftp.usf.edu karmic/main Packages ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Gnome Screensaver does not fade out when unlocking https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/513920 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 155532] Re: nautilus information sidebar right-aligns text when background in use
I'm sorry Corry Maccarrone, but have you modified anything in Nautilus to get that to work? I have upgraded to Jaunty recently, and my system is fairly standard. However, the issue is still present. Are you sure the background you're using is not the default one? If it is, the problem does not appear... The misalignment only happens when the sidepane's background is user-modified. The attachment is from Jaunty. With all the updates applied. ** Attachment added: infopane.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/27275079/infopane.png -- nautilus information sidebar right-aligns text when background in use https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155532 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 381722] [NEW] gnome-panel drawer does not autohide when a submenu item is clicked
Public bug reported: This bug is found in this version... ti...@tuxed:~$ apt-cache policy gnome-panel gnome-panel: Installé : 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7 Candidat : 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7 Table de version : *** 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ti...@tuxed:~$ When a drawer is added to a panel and it's behavior set to autohide, one expects it to autohide when an item within it is clicked. However, this does not always happen. I have found a way that makes it 100% NOT act as expected. Steps to reproduce: 1.Right-Click panel and select Add panel applet 2.Add Drawer applet onto the panel 3.Open Drawer, Right-click and select add item 4.Add a menu to the drawer. Ex(Preferences, System, Administration...) 5.Right-click on the drawer icon and select properties. 6.Set drawer to autohide automatically. 7.Click drawer, browse to an item in the menu just added and select it (click) Expected behavior: The selected item launches and the drawer collapses (autohides). Actual behavior: The submenu collapses, leaving the drawer open and in the way. To close it, the hide buttons must be used, or the drawer button must be clicked. Incidently, clicking the drawer button does not hide the drawer 100% of the time in this case, and you must resort to the hide handle/button for that occur. Not sure if this should be filed as a separate bug, but it seems to be just about the same... ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-panel drawer does not autohide when a submenu item is clicked https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/381722 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 381013] [NEW] Computer unresponsive after Alt+SysRq+K command
Public bug reported: I am not sure which package this should be filed against... I just upgraded to Jaunty a couple of days ago and stumbled upon the Ctrl+Alt+Backspace removal feature... So now, I am trying to use AltGr+SysRq+K to restart X, just testing, mind you, to feel confident that I'll have a way out if/whenever things go awry. However, no matter how many times I try it, or when I try it, same thing always happens: It logs me out of gnome, and restarts X, which restarts gdm (or at least it prompts me for a password) At that point in time, my laptop stops responding, as far as the keyboard and the mouse are concerned. I can't even use Ctrl+Alt+F[1-8] to check/change anything. I know Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and AltGr+SysRq+k are different, because after reenabling Ctrl+Alt+Backspace with ServerFlag DontZap False, i can break out of X and log in again normally, but the same does not happen if I try to use Alt+SysRq+K... This is 100% reproducible on my laptop, an Acer Aspire 3003WLMi. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Computer unresponsive after Alt+SysRq+K command https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/381013 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am posting to say that the same has just started to happen on my system. I just noticed it today, although my last major update was about a week ago, when I also installed the new banshee-1 player. [Bug 35316] Re: these windows do not support save current setup message questionable
hmmm... June 2008, and this issue is still present. Will it ever be resolved upstream? Anyway, I think this has some importance. Especially since I am left currently with no viable option. In my case, I am using stalonetray. It works quite well and I don't want to part with it. After receiving this message, I tried a simple killall stalonetray and saving the session. I also disabled the stalonetray entry in the current session tab and unticked the stalonetray box in the Startup Programs tab. At first, I was happy. Saving the session and logging out did not prompt that warning. So I reanabled it and made sure NOT to press the save-session button... No dice, once I try to logout, the message is there again... Although I never told it to try to save the session... This is most annoying. I do hope it gets some attention... [Bug 238335] [NEW] Too many obsolete panel directories in ~/.gconf/apps
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Old (obsolete) gnome panel entries in gconf-editor never get deleted. If a user has more than the original two panels at one time, then decides to delete a few of them (say they had 5 customized panels, and bringing it down to 1), the system warns the user that all the settings will be lost. Which is what they want. But all the deleted panel entries are still located in /apps/panel/toplevels. Furthermore, opening ~/.gconf/apps/panel will list all those previous entries. They're not loaded when the user starts gnome, but they are nonetheless present in that location. This situation can get a little overwhelming when a user is used to deleting panels and creating new ones frequently (since that's easier than to remove every single item on the panel individually). For example, I currently have 15 different toplevels which settings I can change in gconf-editor, although i only have 2 panels total on my desktop (panels 5 and 15). All the others, 1-4 + 6 - 14 are obsolete. Every time I massively delete/add new panels, I find myself having to hunt down the toplevels listings and playing with the settings to see which panels are the ones I actually have available. This turn, I only had to do this 15 times... What will I do when the number of entries get to 50? 100? 150? This situation is just one major headache waiting to happen. NOTE: Let me clarify, saying that I _never_ had 15 panels at once at any one time on my desktop. Old and obsolete panel entries are not overwritten by new ones, which would curb the growth time of the problem at the very least; they are still there, taking up space, and new ones need to be created. I'll end this with a question: At the beginning, notice that i said that the system warns you that all your settings for whichever panel you are trying to delete will be lost/removed. That prompt makes the user falsely assume that the panel entries are indeed deleted. If so, why are they still in ~/.gconf/apps/panel ? ** Affects: gconf (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gconf-editor (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: gconf (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: gconf-editor (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Too many obsolete panel directories in ~/.gconf/apps https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/238335 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
