[Bug 1090956]

2013-11-11 Thread Tiede
The keyboard is also not recognized when booted to runlevel 3.
This would seem to confirm that this is indeed a kernel bug.

[Bug 1090956] Re: Wireless keyboard not properly configured

2013-04-14 Thread Tiede
Just posting here to say that this is still a bug in 13.04 beta. Seeing
as we are this close to release date, I think it is safe to assume that
this bug will still be present after 13.04 goes live.

[Bug 1090956] Re: Wireless keyboard not properly configured

2012-12-23 Thread Tiede
I'm not following the reasoning here, Fabio?
Does that mean that since the bug is not ubuntu-specific, it should not be
listed as affecting that distro?
It was my understanding that since it affected BOTH distros, I'd mark it as
affecting _both of them_...

I'm confused as to why this is invalid, but just wondering where do I go
from here.

[Bug 705353] Re: usb-creator doesn't accept iso file

2012-10-14 Thread Tiede
Is there a reason why usb-creator is limited to only create Ubuntu images as
opposed to images from ANY random iso file?
There are not really a bunch of alternatives to this on Ubuntu, and forcing
someone to choose only between Debian/Ubuntu specifications for the possible
isos the program will accept is somewhat 'evil' in my opinion...

[Bug 544436] Re: In applications [Deluge, Guayadeque] menu bar is missing

2012-09-06 Thread Tiede
a fix for this seems to be issuing the command:
$export UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0
before loading the app, in a terminal.
source: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/12/missing-menus-in-ubuntu-apps-try-this
Seems to still affect Guayadeque in Ubuntu Precise.

DISCLAIMER: If it matters, I am currently on Gnome-shell seeing this
problem, and haven't yet confirmed if the behavior is the same in Unity
- although I don't particularly see any reason why it *should* differ...

[Bug 544436] Re: In applications [Deluge, Guayadeque] menu bar is missing

2012-09-06 Thread Tiede
Actually, I think I am wrong here.
This is obviously due to Unity's Global Menu behaviour, I suspect...
So the question is, is there a reason why Unity's settings are messing with
Gnome-shell?
And why does it only affect some -read a few- applications, and not (most)
others?

[Bug 881512] Re: dash transparency sometimes shows desktop instead of underlying window

2011-11-14 Thread Tiede
I'm not quite sure that is the problem, Sebastien. I was under the impression
that my videocard was at least powerful enough to handle this sort of
rendering. Maybe I am wrong?
I wonder if someone else with my graphics card is experiencing the same issue,
or maybe someone with a different card as well, to help further the discussion.

[Bug 886120] [NEW] unity leaves trails when moving window if shaded

2011-11-04 Thread Tiede
Public bug reported:

When moving a shaded window, a trail is left behind the operation completes.
Furthermore, even when the window is shaded, a thin rectangular box remains
delimiting where the window was before. It does not seem to affect operational
behavior, however, so this is a very low priority bug. Nonetheless, I was
unable to find a prior bug report for that particular instance on LP, so
filling that void...

[Bug 706458] Re: Clicking on open application in unity should minimize that application

2011-10-25 Thread Tiede
After comment #31, I believe this should be reinstated as a bug. Not just an
opinion.
Why? Not only does it break with users' expectations, it can actually be
counter-productive, and impractical.
I should not have to fear minimizing an application while on a touch-screen
device!
There is no excuse for having the user worry about accidentally closing a
window whenever they are trying to minimize it, no matter how careful they try
to be, just because. Things should not be this way.
No matter how you look at it. This is WRONG.
If what we are looking for is productivity above all, than that behavior flies
in the face of what we aim to achieve.

[Bug 881463] [NEW] highlight in alt-tab can be confusing

2011-10-25 Thread Tiede
Public bug reported:

When using alt-tab to switch between windows, it may lead to a situation where
the user doesn't know which tab is currently selected, because there are many
different highlights depending on WHICH application is opened, not their states.
This can lead to a condition where the user expects an application to be in
focus when it might not be true.
See attached screenshot for clarification
Observe that a quick glance of the Terminal Icon could lead one to interpret it
as having focus. Only the title being placed underneath the window gives it
away. But when a user is fast-switching to another window, they rely more on
quick visual clues than complete analysis of everything presented to them.
Also, why is eog's icon highlighted in YELLOW(!) here?

[Bug 840954] Re: Panel appearance change is confusing and adds no information

2011-10-25 Thread Tiede
Is there a reason why this is marked incomplete?
It's my understanding that if something is marked incomplete there should be a
request for more info, so we can make it complete. Simply marking an entry as
incomplete without specifying what's missing defeats the purpose of that status.
Other status changes exist to reflect what the actual problem is.

[Bug 801351] Re: Cannot summon dash when Firefox is in fullscreen

2011-07-02 Thread Tiede
Just commenting that this happens not just with firefox and chrome, but with
all applications that have a fullscreen option with F11.
However, I also observed that while the dash itself is not summoned, the
current window loses focus, and it would appear that keystrokes are sent
elsewhere as well. This made me suspect that maybe the dash was being summoned
in the background. However, trying to blindly open an app by tapping it's
name after pressing ALT+F2 results in nothing at all... So my theory is not
completely right.
So I decided to see what is happening behind the full screen window, and set it
to a low transparency in compiz.
I can confirm now that the dash is indeed summoned, but it remains in the
background. Keystrokes do not go for it neither, so I am not sure what window
has focus in that situation...

[Bug 801351] [NEW] Cannot summon dash when Firefox is in fullscreen

2011-06-23 Thread Tiede
Public bug reported:

If one switches firefox to full screen mode, mouse dwelling on the leftmost
corner of the screen, Alt+F2 and Super all fail to show the unity dash
board/bar. Switching firefox back to windowed mode fixes the issue.
Expected behavior: The dash should be able to be summoned regardless of a
particular window's state.
Reproducible:100%
using:
Linux Laptop 2.6.37-02063706-generic #201103281005 SMP Mon Mar 28 10:10:47 UTC
2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux (uname -a output)
The 2.37 kernel is there to workaround the overheating bug currently affecting
kernels 2.38+
However, the same bug shows up if I switch to those later kernels.

First time around, this bug was reported without using apport.
Fixing this here. Wish i could delete the other one...

[Bug 797790] [NEW] Gnome control center should depend on menu

2011-06-15 Thread Tiede
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Within gnome-control-center, clicking on the Hardware lister does nothing.
Launching gnome-control-center from the terminal, we see that the problem is
because it couldn't find su-to-root which is available in the package menu.
Therefore, it would make sense if it was to require that package to be
installed.

[Bug 773020] Re: nspluginwrapper segfaults in post-install script

2011-05-01 Thread Tiede
Workaround for those affected by this issue:

There seems to be a conflict with the Google Talk Plugin, causing this behavior.
To resolve the issue, this should work
sudo apt-get purge google-talkplugin

at the end, nspluginwrapper will be automatically configured.

**workaround taken from bug#773899, which is a duplicate report of this bug.

[Bug 435216] Re: empathy crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2010-11-09 Thread Tiede
I am not sure if the fix is there...
I noticed this bug today, by clicking on the notification area applet while
using a chat window. Apparently, the indicator applet was warning me about a
new IM message, which in itself was strange, since I had the IM window focused,
and it is my understanding that this would make the messages not new
anymore...
Thinking maybe I must have missed something, I clicked on the applet, selected
the conversation (which was already opened, mind you), and banm! crash.
I have not yet been able to reproduce it.
Current empathy version: 2.30.2

[Bug 445074] Re: telepathy-butterfly crashed with KeyError in parse()

2010-07-29 Thread Tiede
Hmmm... Seeing as this affecting me now, I don't think this should be
invalid...

Problem is, all information I have on the crash is through apport, and I don't
even know how to reproduce it;
It happened while I was doing something else, totally unrelated to telepathy...
It does happen from time to time though, so if I see a pattern in there, I will
surely update this report.
For now, I am (tentatively) resetting the status to New.
If I don't have any further info in a week or two, I will fix my mess... :)

looking at the debugging info, I can tell this is not related to the

[Bug 260469] Re: Unwanted universal access icon appears in sys-tray, cannot be removed

2010-05-22 Thread Tiede
This is not a bug per se. (at least the fact that it is there isn't...)

What needs to be done is make it easier to remove it, or state how to do it
more clearly.
But for anyone that needs to remove this icon, all you need to do is go to:
System-Preferences-Keyboard, go to the Accessibility tab and untick the first
option (Accessibility features can be toggled with keyboard shortcut).

What we need is an easier (i.e more user-friendly/intuitive) way of
making this. This would then be more of a wishlist item than a bug, in
my opinion.

[Bug 579046] Re: [gm45] emerald hangs after lucid upgrade

2010-05-17 Thread Tiede
sorry i messed up all the tagging and whatnots, I just learned (right
now) how to add another package to a bug report... Did not mean to
change it thusly...

Anyways, as I said a moment ago, I have found a workaround that lets me
think that the bug is at least partly related with gnome-appearance-
properties. I was able to make everything work normally (i.e emerald
works and compiz effects work) albeit temporarily, by doing this.

1. Open up a terminal
2. Type emerald
---nothing happens as emerald just hangs.
3. kill metacity (killall metacity in another terminal would work fine).
4. Launch gnome-appearance-properties (System-Preferences-Appearance)
5. Select the Effects tab and click on Extra.
--- a window pops informing that it is looking for drivers. A short while
later, the desktop flickers and everything is normal, with emerald happily
humming.

Notes: The previous workaround will NOT work if emerald is not hanging in the
background. As if Appearances cannot launch it on its own.
The previous workaround will NOT work if metacity composite is enabled. (but I
believe this is already a known bug)...
Finally, the workaround is only temporary, as it does not endure after the
session is closed. Meaning it must be done each time we log in.
(currently, I am using Alt+F2 to run the commands instead of a terminal, so i
don't have to worry about closing anything.)

On another note, this seems to be settings-specific, as another account on the
same computer seems to work with metacity just fine without using the
aforementioned workaround.

[Bug 579046] [NEW] emerald hangs after lucid upgrade

2010-05-11 Thread Tiede
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

This bug is also manifested in other ways, but this is by far the most
noticeable.
It probably is not a DRI issue, since update5 fixed the disabled DRI from
update3.
I am not quite sure what exactly is wrong, but ever since I upgraded from
Karmic to Lucid, desktop effects took a dive, and the system reverted to using
metacity. (in other words, this could be seen as a regression, since it worked
fine it Karmic)
compiz --replace flickers for about half a second and tries to do something,
but I am left with no window borders, and then the screen reverts back to
metacity about another half-second or so later. This is what pointed me to
check directly with emerald.
emerald --replace does not do anything, it just hangs there. No output, no
information whatsoever, no trace of anything in the logs.
Running emerald by itself with no other WM already running results in the same
behavior, so I can't blame metacity for this.

Arguably, this could also be a bug against emerald, since it does not
do anything but that's a judgment I don't feel qualified to make.

[Bug 513920] Re: Gnome Screensaver does not fade out when unlocking

2010-02-03 Thread Tiede
I am not an Average user, I suppose, but this bug IS happening on a pretty
much vanilla installation, with changes unrelated to gnome-screensaver. Even
the mention of compiz is to help identify the problem, and does not introduce
it...
I do believe a single developer stumbling upon this might be readily able to
fix it in a few hours, so I am volunteering it as a Paper Cut.
If it is rather more complicated than I originally thought, I do apologize...

[Bug 513920] [NEW] Gnome Screensaver does not fade out when unlocking

2010-01-28 Thread Tiede
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Gnome screensaver does not always fade out when coming back to the desktop.
By this I mean, if gnome-screensaver is running, and i enter my password, it is
accepted, but I don't get to see the desktop.
setting general transparency to less than 95% (using compiz), I can see that
all activities are still being recorded underneath the screensaver, and I can
kill it by using Alt+F2 and then typing killall gnome-screensaver.
Otherwise, whatever screensaver was being displayed on the screen still remains
there, until the computer shutdown.
Trying to refresh the image by switching to a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and
then back to X (Ctrl+Atl+F7) does NOT help.
If I set cube in compiz, and unroll the desktop, then I can see that ONLY the
desktop is affected, but the skydome is normal/clear.
Also, although the mouse does work (somewhat - edges don't actually activate
anymore at that time) the cursor is not seen, and mouse position is only
implied by it's consequences (i.e, right-clicking, opening a menu, hovering
over an interactive area,...)
This most often happen when resuming from stand-by, but not always then.
However, it seems that if it happens once, it keeps happening until the
computer is rebooted.

This is happening on a HP ProBook 4510s, running Karmic with all the latest
updates installed.

It is now about two months since this bug report came out... anyone has an idea

I want to point out that it is my understanding that all of us affected users

whosoever reads this. I don't want to make this an important issue if I am the
only one affected, no matter how annoying it is for me... :)

[Bug 367484] Re: usb storage(LG KU380) didn't mount automatically

2009-06-18 Thread Tiede
The same exact bug is noticed here too.
I've looked everywhere for a workaround, and am currently following a lead on
disabling ehci_hcd (or ohci_hcd or even uhci_hcd, depending on the case) and
loading it manually. will update here if it turns out to be good and reliable.
Either case, i think it's safe to now mark this as confirmed...

duplicate of the other?

[Bug 381013] Re: Computer unresponsive after Alt+SysRq+K command

2009-06-15 Thread Tiede
Well, the silence here has been deafening. Undeniably...
But I have good news! (no, I did not just save 15% off my car insurance ...)
But after the last few batches of updates, everything is well again...
Incidently, something disabled my don't zap workaround! Kinda fishy... but
the computer behaves as expected now, so who am i to complain?

2009-06-09 Thread Tiede
hmm... The silence on this is deafening...
I am not sure what to interpret this silence as... Is it a need for more info?
I'll provide anything... really...
(I just discovered that Ctrl+Alt+Backspace does NOT work on gdm, and that ain't
cool...)
Isn't X technically started by the time gdm is displayed anyways? I am little
befuddled by this...

[Bug 155532] Re: nautilus information sidebar right-aligns text when background in use

2009-05-29 Thread Tiede
I'm sorry Corry Maccarrone, but have you modified anything in Nautilus to get
that to work?
I have upgraded to Jaunty recently, and my system is fairly standard. However,
the issue is still present.
Are you sure the background you're using is not the default one? If it is, the
problem does not appear...
The misalignment only happens when the sidepane's background is user-modified.

The attachment is from Jaunty. With all the updates applied.

[Bug 381722] [NEW] gnome-panel drawer does not autohide when a submenu item is clicked

2009-05-29 Thread Tiede
Public bug reported:

This bug is found in this version...
ti...@tuxed:~$ apt-cache policy gnome-panel
gnome-panel:
  Installé : 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7
  Candidat : 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7
 Table de version :
 *** 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
ti...@tuxed:~$

When a drawer is added to a panel and it's behavior set to autohide, one
expects it to autohide when an item within it is clicked.
However, this does not always happen. I have found a way that makes it 100% NOT
act as expected.
Steps to reproduce:
1.Right-Click panel and select Add panel applet
2.Add Drawer applet onto the panel
3.Open Drawer, Right-click and select add item
4.Add a menu to the drawer. Ex(Preferences, System, Administration...)
5.Right-click on the drawer icon and select properties.
6.Set drawer to autohide automatically.
7.Click drawer, browse to an item in the menu just added and select it (click)

Expected behavior: The selected item launches and the drawer collapses
(autohides).
Actual behavior: The submenu collapses, leaving the drawer open and in the way.
To close it, the hide buttons must be used, or the drawer button must be
clicked.
Incidently, clicking the drawer button does not hide the drawer 100% of the
time in this case, and you must resort to the hide handle/button for that
occur. Not sure if this should be filed as a separate bug, but it seems to be
just about the same...

[Bug 381013] [NEW] Computer unresponsive after Alt+SysRq+K command

2009-05-27 Thread Tiede
Public bug reported:

I am not sure which package this should be filed against...

I just upgraded to Jaunty a couple of days ago and stumbled upon the
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace removal feature...
So now, I am trying to use AltGr+SysRq+K to restart X, just testing, mind you,
to feel confident that I'll have a way out if/whenever things go awry.
However, no matter how many times I try it, or when I try it, same thing always
happens:
It logs me out of gnome, and restarts X, which restarts gdm (or at least it
prompts me for a password)
At that point in time, my laptop stops responding, as far as the keyboard and
the mouse are concerned. I can't even use Ctrl+Alt+F[1-8] to check/change
anything.

I know Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and AltGr+SysRq+k are different, because after
reenabling Ctrl+Alt+Backspace with ServerFlag DontZap False, i can
break out of X and log in again normally, but the same does not happen
if I try to use Alt+SysRq+K...

This is 100% reproducible on my laptop, an Acer Aspire 3003WLMi.

remove acroread-debian-files acroread-dictionary-de acroread-l10n-de al of
which are not depend on acroread, but will not be reinstalled unless explicitly
stated.
Furthermore, Package acroread-debian-files is not available, but is referred to
by another package.
So, package acroread-debian-files has no installation candidate as of yet... Oh
boy!
Same thing goes for the other files. It seems the update is not completely
ready...
Will check back tomorrow, I guess.

Re: [Bug 264769] Re: Intrepid - SIS video snow/fuzz

2009-03-11 Thread Tiede
Hmmm. I am a little perturbed by your saying Dennis...

Are you sure it was working when you did that? and how long is a
while?
in my laptop, it doesn't work. Now it looks like it does for the first
few minutes or so sometimes, but whenever the laptop gets hot, the lines
start appearing. And the hotter the laptop, the more lines/fuzzy snow
are on the display...
Is that what happened to you maybe and your laptop was not hot and
therefore you did not notice it, or was it genuinely working for a
while?

[Bug 116802] Re: automatic filters for thumbs.db and desktop.ini files

2009-02-04 Thread Tiede
It's February 2009, and this bug is finally triaged...
Am I to expect a release candidate soon?
Or am we waiting for Jaunty+1?
Needless to say, the error is still very much present...

[Bug 264769] Re: Intrepid - SIS video snow/fuzz

2009-01-07 Thread Tiede
i don't know if that's related, but i had a BUNCH of problems following my
upgrade to intrepid from hardy:
Snowy/fuzzy X; soundcard not detected; wireless not working, Ctrl+Alt+* (*
replaced at will F[1-9], Backspace...) not working.
Alt+F[1-9] replacing Ctrl+Alt+F[1-9], being the ones i remember now...
anyways, googled a bit for two days and found deeply buried somewhere a
reference to installing linux-generic
turns out, it wasn't installed. Everything's been fine ever since, including
the snow issue. Maybe it's worth checking out...

[Bug 261520] [NEW] avant-window-navigator stack applet should close on click

2008-08-26 Thread Tiede
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: avant-window-navigator

Currently, if you click on an item in a stack, the stack stays open, until
focus is changed (if ever) to the new window.
This makes the user doubt whether he properly selected the item he wanted and
delays feedback.
Also, if focus is not lost by the stack applet, it stays open, contrarily to
the expected behavior, i.e close once wanted object is chosen.

[Bug 218322] Re: video playback artifacts when composite manager is enabled

2008-07-27 Thread Tiede
I am posting to say that the same has just started to happen on my system.
I just noticed it today, although my last major update was about a week ago,
when I also installed the new banshee-1 player.
The problem appears as stated above, on either banshee-1 (which I was using
when I noticed it) totem, and vlc.
I have metacity composite enabled. Cannot deal with compiz. I have the dreaded
Sis card.
If I disable compiz, then everything works fine.
This problem doesn't seem to affect Mplayer though, which displays videos
sharply whether composite is enabled or not.
Is there a difference in the way mplayer draws video vs totem/vlc/banshee-1?

Attached, fine my lspci

[Bug 35316] Re: these windows do not support save current setup message questionable

2008-06-22 Thread Tiede
hmmm... June 2008, and this issue is still present.
Will it ever be resolved upstream?

Anyway, I think this has some importance. Especially since I am left currently
with no viable option.
In my case, I am using stalonetray. It works quite well and I don't want to
part with it.
After receiving this message, I tried a simple killall stalonetray and saving
the session. I also disabled the stalonetray entry in the current session tab
and unticked the stalonetray box in the Startup Programs tab.
At first, I was happy. Saving the session and logging out did not prompt that
warning.
So I reanabled it and made sure NOT to press the save-session button... No
dice, once I try to logout, the message is there again... Although I never told
it to try to save the session... This is most annoying. I do hope it gets some
attention...

In the mean time, anybody knows a noob-friendly work-around or a way to
fix this issue. (even if it just makes it silent, that'll be fine. At
least my laptop would shut off as expected)...

[Bug 195266] Re: Nautilus does not update trashcan icon

2008-06-14 Thread Tiede
I don't know what happened, but the trash icon issue seemed to be fixed about a
month or so ago.
Now, I am sad to say that the problem is showing its ugly head again.
I wish I knew what specific update brought back the issue, but I am afraid I
cannot recall...
Thanks for trying anyways... Hopefully a proper fix will come out for this
regression.

[Bug 238335] [NEW] Too many obsolete panel directories in ~/.gconf/apps

2008-06-08 Thread Tiede
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Old (obsolete) gnome panel entries in gconf-editor never get deleted.
If a user has more than the original two panels at one time, then decides to
delete a few of them (say they had 5 customized panels, and bringing it down to
1), the system warns the user that all the settings will be lost. Which is what
they want.
But all the deleted panel entries are still located in /apps/panel/toplevels.
Furthermore, opening ~/.gconf/apps/panel will list all those previous entries.
They're not loaded when the user starts gnome, but they are nonetheless present
in that location.
This situation can get a little overwhelming when a user is used to deleting
panels and creating new ones frequently (since that's easier than to remove
every single item on the panel individually).
For example, I currently have 15 different toplevels which settings I can
change in gconf-editor, although i only have 2 panels total on my desktop
(panels 5 and 15). All the others, 1-4 + 6 - 14 are obsolete. Every time I
massively delete/add new panels, I find myself having to hunt down the
toplevels listings and playing with the settings to see which panels are the
ones I actually have available.
This turn, I only had to do this 15 times... What will I do when the number of
entries get to 50? 100? 150?
This situation is just one major headache waiting to happen.

NOTE: Let me clarify, saying that I _never_ had 15 panels at once at any
one time on my desktop. Old and obsolete panel entries are not
overwritten by new ones, which would curb the growth time of the problem
at the very least; they are still there, taking up space, and new ones
need to be created.

I'll end this with a question: At the beginning, notice that i said that
the system warns you that all your settings for whichever panel you are
trying to delete will be lost/removed. That prompt makes the user
falsely assume that the panel entries are indeed deleted. If so, why are
they still in ~/.gconf/apps/panel ?
