[Bug 1156314] Re: [Lenovo IdeaPad U300s] Trackpad detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse
Hi- Thanks for the suggestion. I don't know how/if I can apply the update, since I don't have windows installed and hadn't updated the BIOS prior to removing windows. This problem still persists, even though I've updated to RR 13.04, although with slightly different symptoms. The touchpad is detected as "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" (command: xinput list) even when it is frozen instead of PS/2 Generic. It seems like I can now *sometimes* solve the problem and can get the trackpad to work by putting the computer to sleep and waking it. However, on other occassions, shutting the computer down and restarting repeatedly doesn't do anything - and will sometimes even result in my not being able to use the keyboard and/or click with an external usb mouse (even though I can move the mouse with an external usb mouse). The output to the set of dmidecode commands is: 56CN42WW 01/09/2012 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1156314 Title: [Lenovo IdeaPad U300s] Trackpad detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1156314/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1156314] Re: Lenovo U300s Trackpad detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse
I found the previous versions of the four udev packages listed above (it appears to list the old and upgrade software) and installed (downgraded) them with sudo dpkg -i *deb. I rebooted and then things got a bit more whacky. The mouse jumped around alot, but only at first, and I didn't even need to touch the trackpad for this to happen; more than once, the keyboard was unresponsive and the Unity panel would not show up if I moved the mouse (external optical) over to it; at least once (I had to reboot several times), the external optical mouse was detected, and then immediately wasn't detected, as shown in 'xinput list'.All the while, my battery was draining, getting close to empty, so I plugged in the power, and rebooted again. This time, I regained control with the external mouse and the keyboard, but still the trackpad is detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse. I'm still using the 3.3.7 kernel, though things don't seem to be different with 3.9.0. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1156314 Title: Lenovo U300s Trackpad detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1156314/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1156314] Re: Lenovo U300s Trackpad detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse
Oh, this might be worth mentioning: just prior the trackpad went non- responsive, about an hour ago, before any rebooting, the Update Manager came up for the first time since I started using the 3.3.7 or 3.9.0 kernels two days ago (which I thought was successful). I installed all the packages it recommended. [Bug 1156314] Re: Lenovo U300s Trackpad detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse
So just now, two days after my post above (which is as long as I've gone without a problem in several weeks), I was sitting here with my laptop on my lap, and the trackpad crapped out. I can't say it was caused in correlation with anything. I wasn't doing anything terribly unusual: rhythmbox, VNC, headphones, firefox...The mouse jumped erratically once or twice, and 'xinput list' showed no trackpad detected before quickly displaying the trackpad being detected, again, as a PS/2 Generic Mouse. I have been running the 3.3.7 kernel these past few days. I shutdown and rebooted, and nothing changed (except the mouse jumped once at the login screen, as if the machine was deciding what to do...). I then shutdown and rebooted again, but this time to the 3.9.0 kernel and...still no response on the trackpad. The mouse jumped once, but now 'xinput list' shows NO trackpad detected. I am, once again, at a loss. Please, please help! I don't want to have to argue my warranty policy with the Lenovo customer service people... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1156314 Title: Lenovo U300s Trackpad detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1156314/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1156314] Re: Lenovo U300s Trackpad detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse
I successfully installed both Mainline kernels, linux-3.3.7-030307 -generic-pae and linux-3.9.0-030900rc3-generic-pae. Both originally would not install because of a conflicting package, alsa-hda-dkms (the error was analogous to the example error with virtualbox under "Errors" in the Installing Mainline Kernel section of the Kernel/Mainline Builds Ubuntu Wiki page). I uninstalled alsa-dha- dkms and the kernels then successfully installed. I was able boot to either kernel, and while it is difficult to tell immediately whether or not the problem is/will be completely non-existent, since it is intermittent by nature, I have not yet had the trackpad detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse (and therefore totally useless); it's functionality seems restored. I'll continue to run both kernels over the next few days to see what happens. For what it's worth, a problem I've had with my microphone recording only a single stereo track disappeared. This was probably related to alsa-hda-dkms If the answer lies in an upstream kernel, what do I do next, since I am advised to not use Mainline kernels indefinitely? [Bug 974455] Re: Lenovo u300s 't' key sends "Hiragana-Katana"
I got my U300s three weeks ago or so and just now my 't' key decided to map to Shift_L. I was logged in at the time, the computer was idle with its screen locked. I was aware that this problem has cropped up on other machines, so I knew where to look. I also see that the 't' key doesn't work in BIOS, and I don't know how to update the BIOS driver since I, too, have blown away Windows... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/974455 Title: Lenovo u300s 't' key sends "Hiragana-Katana" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/974455/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 997914] Re: Microphone does not pick up sound
After further googling and tinkering, the solution I discovered is as follows: Running gstreamer-properties showed that some Default Input plugin was "Custom" and the pipeline was something I don't remember. This didn't seem right, so I changed the plugin to ALSA and then the mic worked. However, Skype still didn't want to detect my voice. I traced this to it automatically changing the mixer levels (which can be shut off). The last tweak was to manually set one input channel to 0 with pulse volume control, and then other way up. Skype hears me again; wonderful. Now I'm left wondering, however, why everything worked seamlessly a week ago, and then out of "nowhere" the mic stopped working. Some update or install somewhere messed it all up... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/997914 Title: Microphone does not pick up sound To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/997914/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 997914] Re: Microphone does not pick up sound
Two comments. As of very recently I have started getting an error message on boot or waking up from suspend that says "System program problem detected." I am wondering if any of these things has to do with a recent install/upgrade kernel patch with headers to fix the suspend problem on my lenovo u300s documented here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/904261. The kernels are here: http://zinc.canonical.com/~cking/sil/ I installed linux-image-3.2.0-24.37-u300acpifix1-generic- pae_3.2.0-24.37-u300acpifix1_i386.deb and headers (I think; hopefully that was appropriate). And now uname -r shows 3.2.0-24.37-u300acpifix1 -generic-pae... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/997914 Title: Microphone does not pick up sound To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/997914/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 997914] [NEW] Microphone does not pick up sound
Public bug reported: I had this problem a week or so ago and fixed it with some patch, or some kill-switch, or something...and now it's back and I don't know how to fix it.
