[Bug 295938] [NEW] [regression] cheese fails to work with 8.10

2008-11-09 Thread TomasCassidy

Cheese fails to get any content from my laptop integrated webcam. The image
area that would normally show what the camera is seeing is just a blank
rectangle. During this, the LED light next to the webcam turns on to say the
camera is operating. 'Camera Monitor' also pops up with a notification saying
that the camera is on. It was working fine in 8.04.1.
Also, when I try to quit cheese using the menu, I have to force-quit using the
'force-quit' gnome applet to kill the window and then run 'pkill cheese' to
kill it completely and turn off the camera.

[Bug 261142] Re: ath5k driver causes Ubuntu to freeze

2008-11-05 Thread TomasCassidy
I just noticed a problem with my earlier post. While I noticed that the
ath5k module was loaded, it was loaded alongside the ath_pci module.
The working internet connection was actually using the ath_pci module.
After removing the linux-restricted-modules packages, NetworkManager
tries to connect with ath5k and fails. I haven't yet noticed any
crashing/freezing with ath5k yet (linux-backports-modules version).

How do i locate ampache.postinst in the package that I installed? I
noticed that the deb file is cached in
/var/cache/apt/archives/ampache_3.4.3-0ubuntu1_all.deb but I have no
idea how to open it up to look inside.

[Bug 272768] [NEW] [needs-packaging] grecipe-manager

Gourmet Recipe Manager is a simple but powerful recipe-managing
application, intended for the GNOME desktop, but works on any platform

there is not yet any recipe manager easily available to install for the

[Bug 261864] [NEW] [8.10 alpha4] Ubiquity GUI fails to restart after it has been closed

2008-08-27 Thread TomasCassidy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity-frontend-mythbuntu

Ubuntu version: Mythbuntu 8.10 alpha4 LiveCD

I double-clicked on the Install Mythbuntu icon on the desktop to start
the Ubiquity installer. I then clicked the [x] close button to close
ubiquity. Successive attempts to start ubiquity fail. Apport generated
a crash log after closing the first time, but I couldn't get on the
internet from the mythbuntu machine due to wireless driver problems. I
have attached the apport .crash file as it would be too large to post
here.

[Bug 261142] [NEW] ath5k driver causes Ubuntu to freeze

2008-08-25 Thread TomasCassidy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.26-5-generic

/proc/version_signature: Ubuntu 2.6.26-5.17-generic
uname -a: Linux htpc 2.6.26-5-generic #1 SMP Fri Aug 15 13:54:58 UTC 2008 i686
GNU/Linux
lsb_release -rd:
Description: Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)
Release: 8.10

The ath5k wireless driver is causing Ubuntu to freeze, which I am guessing is a
kernel problem. It doesnt always happen straight away after startup, so I
usually have some time to fiddle with drivers/settings before anything bad
happens. I have tested this by unloading the ath5k driver (sudo modprobe -r
ath5k) and then reloading it again (sudo modprobe ath5k) at which point Ubuntu
immediately freezes. This was tested by loading the driver from both the GUI
environment and Virtual Console #1 (ctrl+alt+f1). I believe this is a very
high-level bug for Ubuntu since the ath5k driver is being shipped as default
for a lot of Atheros wireless cards. If this can't be fixed by the time
intrepid is released, then the old madwifi driver will have to be re-included.

[Bug 261142] Re: ath5k driver causes Ubuntu to freeze

2008-08-25 Thread TomasCassidy
When the freeze happens it locks up the whole system, including all
virtual consoles so there is no way for me to get a copy of the dmesg
output. Do any of the dmesg logs get held after rebooting the system,
or is there any way to capture the output of the dmesg command into a
logfile (something similar to tail -f /var/log/dmesg dmesg.log)? Is
there any timeframe of when the 2.6.27 kernel will be in the archives?

[Bug 260761] [NEW] Atheros wireless chipset AR5212 is incorrectly identified as AR2414

2008-08-23 Thread TomasCassidy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.26-5-generic

Description:Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)
Release: 8.10

I have a Netgear WPN311 wireless PCI card installed in my computer. It
was previously working on Ubuntu 8.04 with the old madwifi driver.
Since upgrading to 8.10 alpha4 I noticed that the wireless driver has
been switched to the new ath5k driver. This driver seems to incorrectly
identify the wireless chipset, since sudo lspci -vvnn is identifying

[Bug 222963] Re: rt61pci fails to locate wireless networks

2008-05-17 Thread TomasCassidy
I have tried installing multiple drivers for the rt61 chip. The drivers
available on the ralink website manage to find my AP every time (using
sudo iwlist scan) but I couldn't find any decent documentation on how to
establish a WPA2 connection. I also tried the drivers from compat-
wireless at linuxwireless.org but they are giving the same error in
dmesg that you are describing: [ 3757.690818] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP):
wlan0: link is not ready whenever I run sudo /etc/init.d/networking
restart. I'm not quite sure what this message is actually saying. I
can't seem to find any other debug information in other log files. When
compiling the compat-wireless drivers, I modified the config.mk to add
both CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB_DEBUGFS=y and CONFIG_RT2X00_DEBUG=y but that
didn't seem to generate any extra error messages.

[Bug 211155] [NEW] [7.10] youtube says a flash player is too old

2008-04-02 Thread TomasCassidy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnash

When trying to play a video in youtube, the website says that the
installed flash player is too old. Hello, you either have JavaScript
turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest

gnash installed from the repositories.

I have noscript installed, but I have set it to allow both youtube.com
and ytimg.com.

  Version table:

  Version table:

[Bug 208219] [NEW] gkrellm doesnt use correct font size

2008-03-28 Thread TomasCassidy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gkrellm

gkrellm doesn't always use the correct font size when starting up.
Sometimes it uses a larger font than normal, and so some things are not
properly visible in the gkrellm window.

[Bug 141343] Re: r8169 driver does not work with Realtek PCI-E 8111B integrated network controller

2008-03-26 Thread TomasCassidy
I can verify that the r8169 driver on 8.04 only sometimes connects to
dhcp. Restarting the computer fixes the problem. This doesn't always
happen though.

[Bug 197222] Re: [8.04] wired and wireless networks are both selected

2008-03-25 Thread TomasCassidy
I have just reinstalled network-manager on my mythbuntu 8.04 machine and
the issue is still occuring. I have updated all packages to the latest
versions.

I can reproduce the issue by selecting the wired network, then selecting
the wireless network, and then reselecting the wired network. When the
wireless network is selected, the wired connection is unselected. When
i reselect the wired network, the wireless network radio button remains
selected.

[Bug 134660] Re: Ralink rt2400 / rt2500 / rt2570 / rt61 / rt73 do not work out of the box in Gutsy/Hardy

2008-03-25 Thread TomasCassidy
I can verify that the rt61pci driver included with the latest hardy
kernel doesn't work properly with my D-Link DWL-G510 rev. C2 PCI card.
The driver detects the card, but will not connect to a hidden
WPA2-Personal (AES-CCMP) network.
