Re: [Bug 400711] Re: [Polish Translation] StronaGłównaon right panel should be Ka talog Domowy

2010-03-16 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
This issue is relevant to hardy and it's launcher. I don't think it's
relevant to lucid.

I haven't been running hardy for quite a long time now, so,
unfortunately, I can't check if it's already fixed there.

[Bug 508335] [NEW] Video doesn't move along with its window with Compiz enabled (ATI Radeon X200M)

2010-01-16 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Steps to reproduce:

1. Make sure Compiz is enabled
2. Open some video app(totem,miro,banshee..etc) and play something
3. Click and hold the app's title bar and move it around

What happens:

The video stays in the same place, doesn't follow the window. The video
snaps into correct position only when I release the mouse button to stop
moving the window.

What should happen:

The video should follow the window, just like it does with Compiz
disabled

[Bug 504650] Re: Firefox buttons have icons against the current no button icons GNOME default

2010-01-08 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
I don't mean toolbars or menus(menus have items, not buttons). I mean
buttons.

About Mozilla Firefox has an X icon next to close button
Clear Recent History has icons on the buttons
Start Private Browsing has icons on the buttons
Preferences has icons on help and close

etc.

Firefox doesn't seem to use/respect the gconf
/desktop/gnome/interface/buttons_have_icons option

[Bug 504544] [NEW] Jockey's description of proprietary Broadcom firmware is incorrect

2010-01-07 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

Jockey's description of proprietary Broadcom firmware is as follows:

Title: Broadcom B43 wireless driver
Tested by the Ubuntu developers
Licence: Free

Should be:

Title: Broadcom wireless card firmware
Licence: Proprietary? Broadcom's Copyright notice?

The driver itself is Free Software. What is installed is the firmware
for the network card, not the free driver.

[Bug 504551] [NEW] Broadcom proprietary firmware limits download speed to 90 kb/s

2010-01-07 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: b43-fwcutter

Hardware:

02:03.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One
54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02)

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install proprietary Broadcom firmware via Jockey
2. Try to download something either form Internet or local LAN.

What happens:

Maximum download speed you get is 90 kb/s, irrespectively of actual
network bandwidth.

What should happen:

The speed should be appropriate to your actual bandwidth's capacity.

OpenFWWF (http://www.ing.unibs.it/openfwwf/) firmware with the same card
works at full speed.

[Bug 504583] [NEW] Touchpad On/Off hotkey ACPI event not translated to an input event on ASUS A6Rp

2010-01-07 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Press touchpad on/off hotkey

What happens:

ACPI event is generated, but not an input event.

What should happen:

Touchpad should enable/disable

When i run acpi_listen and press this touchpad on/off hotkey, I get:

hotkey ATKD 006b 002b

(The last number changes incrementally with each press of this button)

Additional info:

There used to be a working solution at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/AsusA6Rp for Hardy, that
included editing xorg.conf and adding:

Option SHMConfig on

to the touchpad configuration. But it doesn't work for Karmic.

2010-01-07 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Launch Evolution

What happens:

Cancel current mail operation button (next to mark as non-spam) isn't
greyed out when no mail operation is in progress.

What should happen:

Icon should be greyed out. Else it gives a false impression that there
actually is some mail operation in progress, when there isn't any.

[Bug 500845] [NEW] Page Down key doesn't work in Gnome-do

2009-12-27 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

Even though Page Down key is set in the Gnome-do preferences to
scrolling down the list of choices, it doesn't work.

Page up, End and Home _do_ work though.

I tested it with 2 keyboards and both work in other apps.

[Bug 500894] [NEW] Can't reuse keys for shortcuts within Gnome-do

2009-12-27 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-do

How to reproduce:

1. Open Gnome-do preferences and go to Shortcuts tab.
2. Assign a new key to some action x.
3. Try to assign the key that was previously bound to action x to some other
action y

What happens:

Gnome-do acts as if the user didn't press anything. The prompt for new
key is still there, waiting for input.

What should happen:

Gnome-do should assign the key to the action.

For example:

1. Next Pane = Tab
2. Assign Insert to Next Pane. So now Next Pane = Insert
3. Double-click Last Result, you get the prompt for a new key
4. Press Tab and notice nothing happens. The prompt is still there and the key
is not assigned.

[Bug 500898] [NEW] Deskbar applet doesn't hide the prompt/results list when clicked a second time

2009-12-27 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: deskbar-applet

Steps to reproduce:

1. Click Deskbar icon
2. (optional) Type something in it.
3. Click Deskbar icon again

What happens:

1. If nothing was typed in, the prompt moves/extends a few(?) pixels down, but
doesn't hide
2. If something was typed in and results were shown, the results list is
shortened (needs more scrolling)

What should happen:

The prompt/result list should simply hide, as it used to.

[Bug 500913] [NEW] Week and Month calendar views have strange and broken mouse behaviour (as opposed to good Day and Work Week views)

2009-12-27 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

There are significant differences in mouse behaviour between Day/Work
Week views(good) and Week/Month views(broken).

1. In Day/Work Week views, you _can_ Drag'n'Drop (good). In Week/Month views
you _can't_ (very bad)
2. In Day/Work Week views, double-clicking an event opens it in a new dialog
window (good). In Week/Month views it _doesn't_ - you have to double-click
_twice_ (very bad)
3. In Day/Work Week views, when you first click an event and then click
somewhere else in the calendar, the focus changes accordingly (good). In
Week/Month views, when you first click an event and then click somewhere else
in the calendar, the focus doesn't change, it's still on the event (very bad)

The Day/Work Week views mouse behaviour is functional and intuitive. The
Week/Month mouse behaviour is very cumbersome and incosistent.

I can't see any rationale for having 2 completely separate mouse
behaviours between the calendar views. This is most likely a bug.

[Bug 452149] Re: Humanity delete icon uses a wrong concept

2009-12-27 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Do you know that some other themes and software use exactly the same
design (crossed red circle) or something very similar for Cancel?

I understand that the Trash icon might have some ambiguity on whether
the item in question will be recoverable, but the Red Circle icon is
completely counter-intuitive.

I already mistakenly removed one of my tomboy notes because of this,
when I was tired and had recently switched to Ubuntu.

[Bug 447284] Re: UNR karmic icons need more contrast

2009-12-27 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
It's the same as of humanity-icon- 0.4.1ubuntu5

It's not only the bluetooth icon. It's also hard to judge:

1. The volume level
2. Wi-fi signal
3. IM status (to a lesser extent, but still).

In the case of wi-fi signal and volume levels, it would be easier if
there were no lighter bars that were filled with slightly darker colour.

[Bug 500940] [NEW] It's open-source software, not Open Source software

2009-12-27 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

The descriptions for main and universe are respectively Canonical-
supported Open Source software and Community-maintained Open Source
software.

From http://catb.org/~esr/open-source.html (I think it's authoritative
document on this):

(A note about usage. In accordance with normal English practice, the
term is open source standing alone, but open-source used as an
adjective or in compounds; thus, open-source software.)

By the way, the term free software seems to be much better aligned with
Ubuntu Philosophy anyway: http://www.ubuntu.com/community/ubuntustory/philosophy

[Bug 500944] [NEW] APT cache could be automatically reloaded (w/o asking) for usability and convenience, unless on mobile broadband

2009-12-27 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

When you change repositories and close the Software Sources window, a
dialog pops-up telling you to update the APT cache. I think that it
could be done automatically _unless_ the user is on mobile broadband.

If the user is not on mobile broadband I guess there is no other reason
not to.

if is_on_mobile_broadband(): aptitude update
else: display cache not updated because you're on mobile broadband
notification

That would be both an usability and convenience win.

[Bug 500948] [NEW] Software Sources can say packages info is outdated even when it's not

2009-12-27 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:

1. Run Software Sources
2. Make some change in the repo list
3. Revert it manually (without clicking the Revert button)

What happens:

The dialog that packages info is outdated and needs to be updated pops
up.

What should happen:

Program should be smart enough to recognize that no change was made. If
there is a Revert button, that means the program _knows_ the original
state and can compare with it already upon closing.

Sure there is a Revert button. But it's not about that button. It's
about the program not covering the other use case. This is a Bad Thing
from usability and convenience standpoint.
