[Bug 1273484] [NEW] nagios-plugins renamed to monitoring-plugins

2014-01-27 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

This project was forced to change its name because of a trademark
assertion (see https://www.monitoring-plugins.org/news/new-project-
name.html), so the package name, upstream URL in the package
description, and possibly other references to the old name will need to
be updated.

See Debian Bug #736331 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=736331 and Red Hat Bug #1054340
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1054340 for more details
and discussion.

Changes to file paths might be appropriate, but would break several
things, so some discussion about that will be needed, possibly with some
symlinks for a few releases or some such. I expect the details are best
worked out upstream in Debian rather than creating a delta, but it seems
like we need a bug report on Ubuntu as well since changes may need to
happen before the Trusty release, particularly since it's LTS.

This affects all versions of Ubuntu at this point, but it's probably
most sane to only change things for Trusty and releases after that at
this point, IMO. Upgrades from previous releases to Trusty or later
should replace the old package with the new name (the Red Hat bug has
lots of discussion about upgrade paths - it may be worthwhile to talk
with Sam Kottler so Ubuntu/Debian end up with similar behavior to Red
Hat/CentOS/Fedora in this respect).

This also affects the dependencies of several other packages, such as
nagios3-common, icinga-common, shinken-common, and probably others.

[Bug 1167621] [NEW] apt_check.py can't be used as a module

2013-04-10 Thread Tony Yarusso

It looks like the author intended to make this file usable as a module
from another Python script, but never got around to finishing shuffling
things around to make that the case. I'll have a merge request shortly
with one possibility for finishing that work.

[Bug 690012] [NEW] qcad should have dependency on qcad-data

2010-12-13 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qcad

After installing qcad, I was happily editing my document, starting with
lines, but when I got to added text nothing appeared. I noticed that
the font selection dialog was blank, so figured it might have something
to do with fonts. I then discovered that fonts where mentioned in the
package description of qcad-data, installed that, and then re-opened my
document. Lo and behold, there were my dozen test texts scattered all
over the place! So, qcad will in fact add text without qcad-data
installed, but is unable to display them or configure their font type.

As a result, I think the qcad package should Depends or at the very
least Recommends qcad-data.

[Bug 324425] Re: installation nagios and centreon

2010-09-01 Thread Tony Yarusso
Why does apport think this is nautilus-related rather than nagios?

Here's an attempt at an English translation (with help from Google):

I have a problem where when I finished installing and configuring ndo
and tried to restart nagios, it will not start. I tried several times
but nothing worked. Do I format my system back to 5 or what?

I suspect this bug should actually be filed against ndoutils-common.

[Bug 525498] Re: hardware #94: ext3, and ext4 shoudn't it be ext3 and ext4?

2010-02-21 Thread Tony Yarusso
The serial comma is absolutely required, especially in technical
writing, as it is the only means of providing clarity in otherwise
ambiguous situations. While this particular sentence would still be
understandable without it, consistency is key in documentation. In
short, the original is correct.

[Bug 492206] [NEW] No way to tell what type an install CD is from its contents

2009-12-04 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

I frequently burn an Ubuntu installation CD, use it, and then promptly
manage to leave it laying around somewhere in my house neglecting to
properly label it first. Later, I pop it in to see what it is, and
while I can tell that it's Ubuntu, I don't know for sure exactly which
image it is. I would like to propose that all information necessary to
establish what the original image name/type was should be easily
accessible in the contents of the image itself.

*Most* of what is needed is accomplished already in the
README.diskdefines file, such as #define DISKNAME Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic
Koala - Release i386. However, there are two problems remaining.
First, there is no differentiation between the desktop, alternate, and
server CDs in this line. Second, it would be nice if the different
items were also written separately just to be more easily
programatically readable, in case someone needed that capability.

Thus, I propose that at a minimum a line should be added to
README.diskdefines or another appropriate top-level file with a
declaration along the lines of CDVARIANT Alternate. That combined
with existing things would satisfy the basic needs outlined in my first
point.

What would be ideal IMO to take care of the second too would be something that
looks like this:
#define DISKNAME  Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala - Release i386
#define TYPE  binary
#define TYPEbinary  1
#define ARCH  i386
#define ARCHi386  1
#define DISKNUM  1
#define DISKNUM1  1
#define TOTALNUM  0
#define TOTALNUM0  1
#define DISTRO  Ubuntu
#define VERS  9.10
#define MILESTONE  Release
#define CODENAME  Karmic Koala
#define CDVARIANT  Alternate

(ARCH is already mentioned separately.) Note that I don't really
understand all of what the README.diskdefines file does or the inner
workings of the disk images and installer - I just noticed that most of
the info I want happens to be in that file, so it would make sense to me
to elaborate on it there.

[Bug 475816] [NEW] No bell/alert sound in Karmic

2009-11-05 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

I did a fresh install of Karmic. My sound in general works. However, I
no longer have any alert sounds for things like irssi hilights. I
understand this is because pcspkr was blacklisted, and everything was
supposed to be converted to the Gnome Alert sound as configured in the
sound preferences. While I can play the alert sound in the preferences
dialogue to choose one, I never hear it while actually using the system.

[addition]
Disabling visual effects makes it work, so it's something between compiz and
pulseaudio apparently?

[Bug 469354] [NEW] popularity-contest should be enabled by default

2009-11-01 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: popularity-contest

The entire purpose of the popularity-contest package is to collect
statistics. In order for statistics to be useful, they need to come
from a significant sample size representative of a population.
Currently the sample is neither significant nor representative, as it is
a relatively few people who have self-selected themselves to be in that
group. The results therefore are likely to be heavily skewed towards
more technical users, individuals versus group deployments, and people
from wealthier economic backgrounds that have time to fritter away
looking at popcon data out of curiosity (in addition to the developers
with a legitimate interest).

In short, unless popcon is enabled by default, the statistics from it
will continue to be invalid and of very little use, or worse,
substantially misleading. Since the stated purpose of those statistics
is to guide future Ubuntu development, that is a serious problem.

Now, some people may raise privacy concerns with this sort of thing.
To address that, we need to make sure that it is clear that the data is
submitted anonymously, and that every effort is made to keep it so.
(eg. the server shouldn't keep IP address logs at all) As long as there
is no way of ever connecting the data to an individual user or machine,
there should be no problem with the data existing for the community as a
whole.

[Bug 469935] [NEW] Don't ask for password on login option is unavailable

2009-11-01 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

On both a fresh 9.10 installation and an upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10,
under System Administration Users and Groups, Add User, there is an
option shown in the dialogue labelled Don't ask for password on login,
but it is greyed out and can not be selected. I do not know whether it
worked on previous versions. The fix appears to be a combination of
creating a group called nopasswdlogin and changing some configuration
files relating to gdm and pam.

The addition of the group is sufficient to bring the checkbox into
focus, but the gdm/pam changes are necessary for it to actually work.

The details of these fixes can be found in the latest comments on Bug
#396459, but I believe this to be separate from the issue that bug was
originally filed to address. Of note they link to
http://www.danellis.co.uk/drupal/node/7 and
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=12777page=2 for the relevant
information.

(Yes, this is a separate issue unrelated to either the automatic login
option in the gdm config or the guest session presented by FUSA.)

Version number of gdm as shipped with Karmic is 2.28.1-0ubuntu1, but
then you knew that.

2009-10-19 Thread Tony Yarusso
I would like to re-open this for a fresh evaluation, as it appears the
license has changed significantly since the last go-through. It appears
likely that TrueCrypt would only be suitable for multiverse, not
universe, and would require re-branding similar to what was done with
IceWeasel in Debian, but I think it can be included now. Thus, please
take a look at the new license at http://www.truecrypt.org/legal/license
and see if qualifies for inclusion yet. If not, please contact upstream
at licens...@truecrypt.org about any remaining concerns.

[Bug 272826] Re: Ubuntero inappropriate for female contributors

2008-12-23 Thread Tony Yarusso
I'm not particularly bothered by either form of the word itself, but I
am strongly opposed to the idea of making (or even asking) people to
declare their gender for two reasons. 1) That's not going to help the
complicated issue of the overall relationship of women in FOSS groups
that's already strained. 2) Unless you're willing to implement it
properly with the full variety of answers, it's discriminatory towards
some segments of the LGBT community.

All etymological concerns aside, I do think ubuntista sounds kind of
cool, so that works for me.

[Bug 304924] [NEW] Bluetooth instructions are extremely confusing and disorganized

2008-12-03 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

Current behavior:
The page at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BluetoothSetup currently has a
mismash of instructions for numerous versions of Ubuntu, without clear
delineation of which instructions are applicable to which versions.
Specifically, notes about how to make a device re-connect after a reboot are
unclear.

Desired behavior:
There should be a breakdown of the page by release for any instructions that
are different between the oldest and newest supported version. Additionally,
there should be notes about what should work in an ideal scenario and then
possible workarounds for specific problems.

Background:
I'm trying to use a bluetooth mouse with my desktop computer, via a USB dongle.
The dongle is recognized just fine. However, in 8.04 I can't find any GUI
method of connecting to the mouse (although 'hidd --search' works), while in
8.10 the applet is okay. In both cases I lose connection upon a reboot. With
8.04 I was able to work around this using the instructions involving editing
/etc/default/bluetooth, in the HIDD_OPTIONS parameter. In 8.10 that line does
not exist in the config file, so I have to delete and re-add the device in the
applet. Both of the workarounds I used on 8.04 seem to be listed as only
applying to releases older than 7.10, which clearly is not the case.

[Bug 263441] Re: kompozer crashes in intrepid when opening the recent files menu

2008-12-01 Thread Tony Yarusso
@Kazé: There is a procedure for getting 0.8 in Jaunty (9.04). All that
is required is that I need to have a final copy of 0.8 in hand early
enough to successfully build a package that compiles, runs, AND is up to
the various standards for inclusion by a hard deadline of February 19th.
Getting 0.8 complete by the new year should be great. There exists a
procedure for updating packages in Intrepid, but I am 99% certain
kompozer would not qualify for that. I can however easily publish a
build for Intrepid in my PPA and advertise it through various channels
such that those who need to use it on 8.10 can do so easily.

[Bug 214903] [NEW] Aisleriot regression for double-clicking stacks

2008-04-09 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

Earlier in the Hardy release cycle, if you had a completed stack from
King through Ace, double-clicking it would move it up to the completed
slots at the top of the screen. At some point in the last 24-hours,
this feature disappeared, and it's back to only supporting dragging-and-
dropping piles to the completion spots (the behavior it had in Gutsy).
Note that this is in the Spider game, although I suspect similar things
might be happening in other games.

[Bug 193605] [NEW] Feature Freeze Exception request for Conduit 0.3.8

2008-02-19 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: conduit

Hardy is currently shipping with Conduit 0.3.6. With the changes in
0.3.7 and 0.3.8 numerous bugs were fixed, including many involving
Flickr, F-Spot, and Tomboy, as well as general clean-up and
solidification of the code (a 0.4 release is upcoming soon).
Additionally, support was added for syncing Gmail contacts, an often-
requested feature. In order that we might ship as few bugs as possible
and deliver the most sought-after features reasonably possible, I think
it would be highly beneficial to include those changes in 8.04,
especially given its LTS status.

I have not testing building and installing myself, but have been
following the Conduit development mailing list and there do not appear
to be any regressions that have been mentioned there. (If I had the
time to mess with the packaging / building I might be able to give it a
shot, but it will be far more effecient for someone more experienced
with the package to try that step instead.)

[Bug 182038] Re: Black rectangle instead of image in FF3 [Hardy]

2008-02-14 Thread Tony Yarusso
I have the same symptom, with some variation on conditions:
Graphics driver: radeon
Browsers: both Firefox 3.0 and Epiphany 2.21, on Hardy
Reproducable site: http://virtualnorthstar.org/ - the large pictures of
in-world views
Zoom levels: All

That makes Firefox 3, Liferea, and Epiphany all affected, with the
common ground being gecko/xulrunner, so I'll second that assumption.

[Bug 190120] [NEW] [hardy] Resources tab of g-s-m uses 100% CPU

2008-02-07 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

Running Hardy with gnome-system-monitor 2.21.5-0ubuntu1, linux kernel
2.6.24-5-generic.

There is something about the new graphs in the system monitor that cause
it to use an extraordinary amount of processing power when viewed.
Opening the program itself does not cause any ill effects, and the
System, Processes, and File Systems tabs all work fine. However, as
soon as I switch to the Resources tab my processor usage shoots up to
100%. I can confirm that it is in fact using that much, and not merely
misreporting, as a) I have the system monitor panel applet running as
well, and b) system responsiveness grinds to a near-halt. Switching
back to one of the other three tabs makes everything normal again.

I have been using a graph refresh rate of 1/1.75s. Using 1/4.00s CPU
usage drops to 50-55%. Increasing the interval to 60.00s brings it down
to an almost reasonable 10%. The shortest interval that will
consistently give 100% is 2.00s.

My hardware consists of a 1.86 GHz Pentium M processor and 1024 MB RAM
with and ATI Radeon Mobility X300 video card.

I have attached a screenshot of the graphs, showing the result of
alternating between the Resources tab and the others (as it still graphs
in the background as long as the app is open). Note that actually
calculating the graphs doesn't seem to be a problem, but only if you are
actually looking at them.

I see that there are a number of performance-related bugs filed against
g-s-m, but after looking through them it does not seem to me that any of
them are the same set of conditions and symptoms, so I think this is a
new bug, but am not 100% sure.

To add information, my experience of this bug was while using an ATI
Radeon Mobility X300, with the radeon driver, for whatever that's worth.

I can confirm this behavior. From what I can tell I think it's pretty
much only the graph at the top that we're missing, although I could be
wrong.

[Bug 189174] [NEW] kompozer needs minor packaging fixes

2008-02-04 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kompozer

There are just a couple of little things that need to be taken care of in
kompozer for Hardy. They are as follows:
1. Provide a clean LTS--LTS upgrade path, as Dapper had nvu but Hardy now has
kompozer, and we don't want to leave any users out in the cold unexpectantly.
2. Add a dh_desktop line to address a lintian warning.
3. Update to Debian policy standards version 3.7.3.0 so I don't have to worry
about it later.

[Bug 186186] Re: web page background render errors

2008-01-28 Thread Tony Yarusso
I can also confirm this - see the screenshot at
http://www.flickr.com/photos/tonyyarusso/2219270945/.
Like Dean, I have not been able to establish a pattern, but it has happened
multiple times. I have actually had the same problem in both Epiphany and
Firefox 3.0, both of which I believe use Gecko 1.9.

[Bug 140864] Re: Not all Minnesota Team members are on ML

2007-12-18 Thread Tony Yarusso
Hello all! Now that the semester is wrapping up for those in the group
who are students, everyone has a brief lull between major holidays, and
before we launch ourselves into 2008, I think it's time we brought our
heads together again to hash out the next steps in the direction of our
team.

Therefore, we will be having a meeting on IRC this THURSDAY, at 19:30
CST (7:30 PM, for those of you who don't speak 24-hr clock), in
#ubuntu-minnesota on Freenode.

For those of you not already familiar with IRC, there are instructions
for many popular clients available on
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InternetRelayChat. Additionally, if
you have any trouble understanding those, just go to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MinnesotaTeam and click on the link labelled
Web Client on the line containing IRC -
irc://irc.freenode.net/#ubuntu-us-mn, or [WWW] Web Client under
Resources. This will take you straight to our channel, where you can
either participate from within your browser, or get help setting up a
desktop client.

You can add any items you would like discussed to the agenda at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MinnesotaTeam/MeetingAgenda. This is a time to
check in for any progress on previously mentioned items, hopefully talk
about some plans for an Installfest in collaboration with TCLUG, and
start pinning down details on the major initiatives we want to persue
for the first quarter of 2008.

Can't open files with extension php
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/175563
You received this bug notification because you are the bug contact for
 KompoZer.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is an underlying Gecko issue (or some
other underlying engine type thing). KompoZer still uses Gecko 1.7 if I
remember correctly, which is a few version behind trunk now. If you
remember, Firefox used to have a similar behavior sometimes. I believe we
are running into the same bug Firefox had, which could be fixed by either a)
updating KompoZer to use the current version of Gecko (the best, but most
time-intensive option), or applying the relevant patch from the upstream
version.

[Bug 99433] Re: [needs-packaging] nvu html editor is not in the repositories

2007-12-02 Thread Tony Yarusso
That seems like a reasonable suggestion Tormod. However, I asked some
folks for thoughts, and they suggested it wouldn't really fit the
criteria for a stable release upload (ie, changing it in already
released versions), but would be a good thing to add to Hardy for the
LTS-LTS upgrades that will happen in the spring, so I think I'll do
that but not try to mess with Edgy-Gutsy. One reason I didn't include
an upgrade path originally was b/c the exact future and relationship of
Nvu and KompoZer wasn't quite clarified yet, and doing so might have
been politically iffy (they can actually both be installed as separate
programs, btw), but that seems to be cleared up now.

btw, while I'm commenting I should add that in addition to gutsy
universe, kompozer is also now in feisty-backports.

[Bug 160312] Conduit won't do any action

2007-11-05 Thread Tony Yarusso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: conduit

Running Conduit on Ubuntu 7.10. It runs, and I get a pretty interface
with all kinds of options for things that it can supposedly sync, which
I can then drag onto the canvas, but the File Save and File
Synchronize All actions don't actually do anything. No useful output on
a terminal either.
