[Bug 353007] Re: Open latest message instead of Evolution window when clicking

2009-11-09 Thread TonyKnott
How's the progress in the issues reported here going? It seems that this
bug should be broken in three:

1 - allow notifications to display ellipsized subjects instead of simply
X new emails

2 - allow the indicator applet to show messages themselves besides inbox
names

3 - allow the indicator applet to open messages directly instead of
requiring to open the mail client

I'd also like to mention Bug #479218 that I just reported and is
slightly related.

[Bug 469886] [NEW] Indicator-applet not changing state at all

2009-11-01 Thread TonyKnott
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-applet

Context: I did a clean install of Karmic in Virtualbox and installed the
latest updates. Other than the updates, changing the position of some
icons in the panel and installing Gwibber, this is pretty much a default
install.

Problem: for some reason, the indicator-applet is not working anymore AT
ALL. When I receive new messages in Gwibber, Evolution or Empathy, the
icon does not change, nothing appears in the list and the counter in the
evolution entry is not updated. All three were working in previous tests
with Karmic in Virtualbox.

Furthermore, I'm not receiving notification bubbles for those programs,
either! This is very strange because notify-osd IS running and showing,
for example, volume/brightness gauges and notifications of network
connection. This seems to be a problem only with the programs integrated
with indicator-applet.

I hope the apport info can shed some light. I have NO idea what has
changed since both notification and indication of all three apps was
working perfectly before.

2009-11-01 Thread TonyKnott
Ok, addendum:

Seems to be working now for Empathy. But once again, after
changing/installing nothing at all!

Evolution and Gwibber still do not work. And just to be clear, it's not
the POP bug in Evolution, I use IMAP and it was working perfectly
before.

[Bug 466536] [NEW] The password security in Gwibber is flawed

2009-10-31 Thread TonyKnott
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gwibber

Upstream is completely silent about Bug #400120 and Bug #421728. Since
Ubuntu cares about Gwibber enough to include it in indicator-applet, I'm
filing this report in the hope that the Ubuntu package maintainers might
at least express a position about it.

[Bug 460642] [NEW] Applet should go to offline status and display the shutdown icon when IM app is closed

2009-10-25 Thread TonyKnott
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-session

Currently, the indicator-session applet starts with the shutdown icon
and changes to IM status icon when an IM app such as Pidgin or Empathy
is started. The problem is: it does not change back to the shutdown icon
when the app is closed. If the user closes the program by mistake or if
it crashes, this might mislead him into thinking that he's still online.
The icon should revert to the shutdown icon or, at the very list, to the
offline icon when the all IM apps are closed.

[Bug 442603] [NEW] Inconsistent behavior when no IM app is open

2009-10-04 Thread TonyKnott
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-session

Currently, the applet allows the user to change its IM status even when
Pidgin/Empathy is closed, but changing from offline to any other state
will not make the app open. This is inconsistent. I believe the expected
behavior in this situation would be either to make the app open or to
make all options other than offline grayed out.

Since there's no way, in the first case, to figure out the correct
procedure if the user has Pidgin AND Empathy installed, I suggest
following the second suggestion.

[Bug 442608] [NEW] Gwibber does not add separator to the indicator-applet

2009-10-04 Thread TonyKnott
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gwibber

Gwibber seems to be the only application in the messaging menu that does
not add a separator below its entry when opened. This makes the
messaging menu inconsistent and weird-looking. Pidgin, Empathy and

[Bug 312898] Re: libxxx-dev should be installable with libxxx-unstripped

In this case, shouldn't the static versions be completely removed from

still there and this might be confusing for the users, who won't know if
they are the stripped or the unstripped versions.

Theoretically, the -dev packages also provide static versions of the
