[Bug 393032] Re: Blank DVD dialog box doesn't auto-select newly added entry

2010-06-01 Thread UbuntuCleric
I'm actually having a little difficulty reproducing this in Karmic, as
the dialog that pops up when I pop up in a blank disc doesn't allow me
to select a different application. Can someone else quickly test this?

[Bug 485167] [NEW] There should be a eclipse.ini file in user's home directory

2009-11-18 Thread UbuntuCleric
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eclipse

Hi:

I noticed that eclipse uses the configuration file
/usr/lib/eclipse/eclipse.ini, which contains amongst other settings, the
maximum amount of heap space for the JVM. It seems to me that such a
setting will increasingly be modified by end-users, and thus should be
configurable from a file such as ~/.eclipse/eclipse.ini (i.e., in the
user's home directory). This would make it behave the same way as most
linux programs out there. Is there some reason that this isn't done?

Reading the bug report at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eclipse/+bug/43162, comment #5
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eclipse/+bug/43162/comments/5)
states that they've very recently (a few days ago) moved the eclipse.ini
to be in /etc. Again, this doesn't seem to fit the common model of
having configuration be overrideable by a file in the user's home
directory.

Cheers

[Bug 460944] Re: Update Site list is empty in Install New Software

2009-11-18 Thread UbuntuCleric
Throwing my hat into the ring. I just installed eclipse via synaptic
(version 3.5.1+repack~1-0ubuntu3), and the Update Site list was empty
for me as well. I don't think it was a GTK painting bug, since I
couldn't find Eclipse XML Editors and Tools . I had to export the
list from the Eclipse on my Windows partition, and then import it into
the one in my Ubuntu partition.

[Bug 485167] Re: There should be a eclipse.ini file in user's home directory

2009-11-18 Thread UbuntuCleric
Hmm, can I assume that something with Wishlist importance is unlikely
to be implemented? :P

Would this change require a change to the actual eclipse program (I
would assume this isn't likely)? Or is it a packaging issue, and
someone just has to modify the shell script to implement this? If it is
the latter, I might take a crack at it since I'm the one who filed the
bug.

[Bug 214226] Re: lomoco udev rule not working

2008-12-05 Thread UbuntuCleric
Hi:

I also stumbled across this problem, but I fixed it in a slightly
different way: I changed the SUBSYSTEM != usb_device to ATTR{name} ==
Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse. How did you people know to change it
to usb_endpoint? Using udevinfo, I get SUBSYSTEM == input. I'm
pretty confident I'm looking at the right entry because the ATTR{name}
match works, and it is unique to that entry. Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

[Bug 249817] Re: Adobe Flash player 10 in Firefox 3 has problems with sound

2008-12-02 Thread UbuntuCleric
Hi:

I am also experiencing this problem on Ubuntu 8.10. I cannot find many
of those libao packages that Cactus mentioned, so perhaps it doesn't
apply to me. I am wary of installing non-official packages, especially
for stuff like sound. Are there any other of solutions (the only way
for me to fix it now is restarting Firefox)?

[Bug 298811] Re: FUSA is missing Hibernate, Suspend, Shut-down and Restart entries

2008-12-02 Thread UbuntuCleric
Looks like it is, although in that bug report, only the Suspend and
Hibernate options were missing. It could be argued that the behaviour
described in the report is correct, but I re-iterate my position that
entries should not silently disappear as it really confuses a user.

Oddly enough, that bug report made no mention of missing entries for
Shut-down and Restart. Could it be he didn't notice it (which seems
a little unlikely), or that his fix introduced another problem?

2008-12-01 Thread UbuntuCleric
Hi:

Thanks for your reply. It would appear that recently, upgrades to
certain packages (I only remember Amarok and the default gnome icon set)
have failed, all complaining that I have too many open files. After I
increased the limit by a few orders or magnitude (yes, it was that bad),
the upgrades succeeded. So I think you can safely close this bug :)

[Bug 298811] [NEW] FUSA is missing Hibernate, Suspend, Shut-down and Restart entries

2008-11-16 Thread UbuntuCleric
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet

Hi:

I had recently discovered a problem where FUSA (which I love by the way)
was missing the entries mentioned in the summary. I eventually
discovered the reason it was missing those entries was because gnome-
power-manager was not running (I had disabled it from starting up via
Sessions). To reproduce this problem, take the following steps:

1) Remove FUSA from your panel
2) Kill gnome-power-manager
3) Add FUSA back to your panel

At this point, you should only see three entries: Guest session, Lock
screen and Log out. I can understand why Hibernate and Suspend
would be missing because the power manager is not running, but its a bug
to also remove Shut-down and Restart.

In my humble opinion, FUSA entries should never be removed. For
example, if the user clicks on Hibernate - and it requires gnome-
power-manager which is not running - then either:

1) the power manager should silently start in the background, and then the
computer should go into hibernation
OR
2) a dialog box should pop up giving the user the chance to start the power
manager, and then have the computer go into hibernation

I think silently disappearing entries can confuse users, as it did me.

Cheers,
UbuntuCleric

[Bug 283278] Re: When FUSA applet has shutdown/logout items are duplicated in System menu

2008-11-15 Thread UbuntuCleric
I'm having a similar problem. I recently did a fresh install, but at
some point afterwards (I first noticed it after installing a new theme)
my FUSA only has the entries: Guest session, Lock screen and Log
out. When I click the Shut-down item on the System menu, it also
shows Shut-down and Restart.

I've since switched back to the default theme, but my FUSA is still not
working like it did initially (i.e., have all the power management and
shut-down entries). Can anyone help me?
