[Bug 1019108] [NEW] pkexec pam_ck_connector(polkit-1:session): cannot determine display-device

2012-06-28 Thread UndiFineD
Public bug reported:

This seems to be a fairly common syslog error message, it is found all over the
internet:
pkexec pam_ck_connector(polkit-1:session): cannot determine display-device

The solution might be in this file:
/etc/pam.d/polkit-1

#%PAM-1.0
@include common-auth
@include common-account
@include common-password
session   required   pam_env.so readenv=1 user_readenv=0
session   required   pam_env.so readenv=1 envfile=/etc/default/locale
user_readenv=0
@include common-session

where polkit needs to be made aware that we are most often on display 0:0
perhaps some of these go away with the newer version 0.106

[Bug 832465] Re: upgradeprovision: guess_names: 'realm =' was not specified in supplied /etc/samba/smb.conf. Please remove the smb.conf file and let provision generate it

2012-01-21 Thread UndiFineD
I have a fix:
adjust to your naming requirements, after this install of samba4 went fine

by default /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1   localhost
127.0.1.1   svrwebdev

by default /etc/hostname
svrwebdev

replace with:
$ sudo nano /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1   localhost.localdomain localhost
127.0.1.1   svrwebdev.letsxchange.nl svrwebdev

# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters

$ sudo nano /etc/hostname
svrwebdev.letsxchange.nl

$ sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

$ sudo apt-get install samba4

opening software center consumes a bit of memory,
installed a piece of software and it consumes 100MB more memory,
after 12 installed applications this is a serious number.
after closing the software center the memory is freed again.

[Bug 623394] Re: linux 2.6.35.xx(18) halts randomly

2010-08-25 Thread UndiFineD
Here is a diff file between the working .32 and the defective .35 configuration
my 3 suspects are
a) - cpu support
b) - io
c) - network

a) I could not find and changes in cpu support
so my xeon em64t should be ok with amd64 arch
unless
 CONFIG_X86_L1_CACHE_BYTES=64
 CONFIG_X86_INTERNODE_CACHE_BYTES=64
---
 CONFIG_X86_INTERNODE_CACHE_SHIFT=7

b)
removal of iosched
 CONFIG_IOSCHED_AS=y
setting of interrupt remap
 CONFIG_INTR_REMAP=y

c)
removal of packet mmap
 CONFIG_PACKET_MMAP=y

CONFIG_X86_INTERNODE_CACHE_SHIFT is cpu specific and the patch aready suggests
that I should use _ 6 _ although xeon or em64t is not mentioned in it.
