[Bug 1333024] [NEW] Bluetooth audio Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound
Public bug reported: My bluetooth performance when connected to an audio device is very poor on my Lenovo T440s. There are multiple problems when I connect to my logitech device: 1) It often disconnects unexpectedly. It will connect for 2-5 seconds before disconnecting. This happens over and over with no messages in dmesg. 2) If I can get it to connect, the audio device is listed in the sound settings only about 50% of the time. I have to disconnect, restart bluetooth (\etc\init.d\bluetooth restart) and try again. 3) If I can get it playing, the audio lags by ~10s and is really, really chopped up. Totally unintelligible. Hi unimatrix, I have installed catalyst 9.11 and it works with the no-backfill xserver. I have not fully tested it with the normal xserver core even though I tried. I installed the new Catalyst and afterwards thought I would try it with the ubuntu repos xserver. However, when I changed from the no-backfill to the normal version I could not even start X. I had to boot from a live disk and change my x-org.conf to use the radeon driver, change the xserver back to the no-backfill version. @ Prabhakar Nagral, did this work for you? @ José Tomás Atria I can confirm that switching off fglrx power saving takes care of the problem for me. Further I have found that it only affects me if I boot with power saving enabled. If I boot with power saving off, then turn it on from Catalyst I don't have the leak. If I neglect to switch it off before turning the computer off, then the next time I boot up the memory leak will be present. This can be alleviated at that time by turning power saving off. One issue is that I now have: [fglrx:fireglAsyncioIntEnableMsgHandler] *ERROR* interrupt source ff66 is not supported on this hardware (return code = 1) showing up in my syslog when I boot, and on moving the mouse after issuing the command sleep 1 xset dpms force off via terminal. [Bug 351186] Re: [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled
Hi all, I took Nico's advice and switched to the backclear ppa provided by k0ekk0ek (thanks, and thanks Felix) and found that I still had the memory leak. So thinking that maybe it shouldn't be blamed on the no-backfill (thanks Bryce) or backclear patches I reverted to the default x-server-core that is currently shipping with Karmic. Poor performance and I *still* had a memory leak. So to reiterate: I have memory leaks with fglrx paired with any version of x-server currently out there (default, backclear and no-backfill). I have now reverted to radeon and the current x-server-core that ships with Karmic (2:1.6.4-2ubuntu4) and have had no increase in memory even though I have been doing things that typically would have sent it rocketing (flash movies, heavy browsing). My mem is still sitting comfortably at 11%, normally it would be upwards of 30% at this point. @ svaens Sorry if I wasn't clear. Using fglrx, regardless of the x-server package, lead to a memory leak. The only configuration without a memory leak was disabling the proprietary drivers and using the open source radeon driver (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver) with 2D graphics only. Also, the poor performance I mentioned was slow opening windows. Not just unminimizing, but also initial loading. Just for interests sake, I downloaded the latest driver from the ATI site and installed it and have all the same issues with the memory leak and slow window opening. I am now using it with the backclear patch and after 40 min up-time my memory is at 27%, where normal is 16% with firefox open. I just started and exited Paraview and my memory dropped to the appropriate 16%... [Bug 351186] Re: [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled
Hi all, I had this problem as well and applied the no-backfill patch from the Karmic ppa and it solved the delay problem. I started having the memory issues and thinking they were unrelated I participated in another bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/432531 that should be marked as a duplicate of this one. I was running 64 bit at the time, but I get the same problems even after switching to 32 bit. It discovered something that might help to track down the memory leak. I have ParaView compiled from source on my system (www.paraview.org, I compiled with MPI, Python scripting and the -j 2 option (http://paraview.org/Wiki/ParaView:Build_And_Install#Build_ParaView)) and if I start it and then quit it, even if I don't do anything at all in the program it clears a large portion of the leaked memory. It doesn't seem to clear all of it, but for sure about 800 MB can be reclaimed. I don't really know anything about video drivers and memory leaks, but hopefully this can help. [Bug 432531] Re: Unknown/unaccounted memory leak
I discovered an interesting behavior last night. If I let the memory get really high, then start the program ParaView (compiled from source www.paraview.org), even if I don't do anything - literally start it and quit it - the captured memory is released. To display this I played Freedoom for about an hour and when I quit that I was using 1.7 GB memory with just the desktop open. I saved the output of 'ps aux' and 'free' and then started and quit ParaView as soon as it was loaded. Low and behold, 800 MB of memory spontaneously freed up! I saved the output of the same commands immediately. I inspected the process list in each case and there were no differences between the two, so wherever that memory was tied up it was not accounted for in the process tree. I don't know enough about this stuff to even postulate on what is going on, but in my view this represents a fairly serious bug. Is there another place I should look for where this memory may be accounted? ** Attachment added: meminfo_release_byParaview.tar http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34981392/meminfo_release_byParaview.tar -- Unknown/unaccounted memory leak https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/432531 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 432531] Re: Unknown/unaccounted memory leak
This bug affects me too. I posted about this on the ubuntu forums many months ago and got a linux memory use is different from what you are used to except that linux is really all I'm used to. If I examine 'free', 'top', 'htop', system monitor, '/proc/meminfo', etc, they all say that I'm using about 2 GB (NOT including buffers or cache, with those it tops 3.3 GB). However, when I print 'ps aux' to a file and add up all the memory listed in there it only comes to 950 MB. So where has the rest gone? I am running a fresh (within 24 hrs), up-to-date Karmic official release install and this really bums me out! I was hoping that the problem would vanish when I up graded to 9.10. I had the same issue in Jaunty. I have attached the output of 'cat /proc/meminfo', 'free -t' and 'ps aux'. I imported the ps_aux data into OOCalc and added up all the process memory and it came to 25% or 993 MB. Free shows nearly 2 GB in use (3.3 GB with buffers). [Bug 450693] Re: Memory remains allocated when run from Nautilus
Stani, After some trial I was able to reliably reproduce the problem. If I have focus on any other window (like the source or destination Nautilus windows or System Monitor) when the action list finishes execution, no Ready! dialog is produced and the memory is retained. This is very repeatable. If focus is on the Executing Action List progress window when it finishes, the dialog is produced and closing it in any way will release the memory. If I have one instance of changing focus when it finishes and no dialog is produced, then all subsequent actions fail to produce Ready! dialogs and my memory leaks until the system freezes. This can be rest by killing all instances of Phatch from the terminal. Hopefully you can reproduce this. Note: I have now updated Phatch to 0.2.3, and the above behavior is in that release. [Bug 450693] [NEW] Memory remains allocated when run from Nautilus
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: phatch Hi Phatch developers and users, I have been using Phatch for about a year and think that it is the best tool for many of my photo needs, however, I currently have a problem. I'm running Phatch 0.2.2 and there seems to be a memory release issue. Here's the story: I selected 13 jpg files in Nautilus, used open with, and clicked Phatch. Back in 0.1 this didn't do anything, but with the improvements that have been made it actually opened a window to allow me to select the filter that I want. I selected resize, and viola! It resized them. It must have used the parameters that I had set last time that I ran resize from the console mode because it didn't give me any options and put the modified photos into that folder, resized to the same resolution. That was last night... Now when I look at ps aux|grep phatch, I see: u...@computer:~$ ps aux|grep phatch USER 14003 0.0 15.2 874260 591740 ? SOct12 0:21 /usr/bin/python /usr/bin/phatch [/file list] It's now Oct13 22:06 and Phatch still has 15.2% of my memory tied up. I'm running Jaunty 64bit with 4 GB ram, so that is something like 500 MB+. Any ideas? I haven't killed the process, and haven't shut down the computer in case there is something that I can do to provide debug info. Thanks for the great program and active development. [Bug 160226] Re: In a dual head setup with different resolutions, background wallpaper + desktop icons disappear when compiz runs
I had a very similar problem in 8.10 (amd64) and now have the same similar thing in 9.04 (amd64). For me the desktop just freezes when I start compiz. It doesn't go black, it just stays exactly the same: can't change the background, animations don't work, and file/folder icons don't update. Of note: When I use the proprietary driver v180 my desktop completely locks up with compiz. The screen flashes and rendering becomes erratic. I have to hard-shutdown to recover and reconfigure the xserver in recovery mode to get back to work. Using the older v173 to run compiz leaves me with the stuck desktop - but at least it runs! lshw returns the following about my video card: *-pci description: Host bridge product: 82Q963/Q965 Memory Controller Hub vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 100 bus info: p...@:00:00.0 version: 02 width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz *-pci:0 description: PCI bridge product: 82Q963/Q965 PCI Express Root Port vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 1 bus info: p...@:00:01.0 version: 02 width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pci pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list configuration: driver=pcieport-driver *-display description: VGA compatible controller product: GeForce 8400 GS vendor: nVidia Corporation physical id: 0 bus info: p...@:01:00.0 version: a1 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list configuration: driver=nvidia latency=0 module=nvidia Could the problem be related to the 64 bit system and vid card, with only a 32 bit pci bridge? [Bug 234691] Re: [Hardy] Links to ntfs folders do not work properly on reboot
Hi Aaron, If you set up the drive in your fstab to be auto mounted at boot time it should work. There is lots of info in the ubuntu forums about fstab (file system table), but the simple edit is: 1) find out the device name using mount. It should be something like /dev/sda#. 2) unmount the drive: sudo umount /dev/sda# 3) make a directory to mount the drive: sudo mkdir /media/70G_drive (or /media/win, or whatever) 4) back up your fstab file: sudo cp /etc/fstab /etc/fstab_backup 5) edit your fstab file: gksudo gedit /etc/fstab 6) add the text: # Below added by Aaron to mount windows partition /dev/sda#/media/70G_Driventfsuser,auto,umask=000,sync 0 0 When you start up, the drive should always mount to the same place and appear on the desktop. If not, follow mahiyar's directions here: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-449342.html and check your configuration. I believe this is the same issue that I have cited in bug # 183457. (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/avahi/+bug/183457) I get different errors, but the behavior is the same. I was pointing the finger at the avahi update to 0.6.20-2ubuntu3.1, but it could be the CUPS update. Gentlemen, Thank you for contacting me about this bug. I am attaching the debug2 log file to this email as well as my cupsd.conf. Lines 1-1134 of the log file are on a fresh restart, I then used cupsys restart and it all seems to be working fine, but generated lines 1135 onwards.
