2020-11-23 Thread Vinod Menon
Last week I updated ubuntu from 20.04 to 18.04. Now I have Remmina
freezing after inactivity and will unfreeze after a while like 3-4
minutes. Won't take any keystrokes and all icons are greyed out.

[Bug 1878723] Re: Kernel panic when used with upstart after 0.11-4ubuntu2.1 update

2020-05-29 Thread vinod
This package update is still braking few instances hosted on AWS. it is
the same issue what we have seen in version "libjson-c2 0.11-4ubuntu2.1"
and impacted a lot of users.

same issue we are facing in the version libjson-c2/now 0.11-4ubuntu2.6
which caused few aws instances to go in kernel panic mode.

do ubuntu have through testing before pushing update and what about revert
back. can ubuntu revert back to previous package if unattended upgrade sees any
error?

Thanks. Problem appears to have got resolved. However, when I upgraded
to Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS, it did give some system internal error after
reboot which appears to be a new issue. So thanks once again. I will
bother you should I face any other issue.

[Bug 1721637] Re: can't open system settings(Ubuntu 17.10), icon is visible but settings don't dislay

2018-03-20 Thread Mark Vinod Sinnathamby
I installed Ubuntu 17.10.1 today on my laptop, and got the same problem.
Opened settings and moved the dock to the bottom, and the settings
window just disappeared. The answer given in the following link helped
me to disable the second virtual monitor from the command line, and
restored the settings window back to my normal laptop screen view:

Link: https://askubuntu.com/questions/366813/disable-second-non-
existent-screen-from-command-line

Of course, this second monitor may come up again when you restart your
machine, so it would be a good option to follow the latter part of the
answer in above link, and put the command in a script which you can
schedule to run at startup. This is a workaround though, and this not
the proper fix, which hopefully may come in a future update/patch.

In section 'Typing', in the preference menu for 'Caps Lock key behavior', the
options are too long and when they are cut off, it is impossible to tell the
difference between options since the first few words of many options are the
same.

Making the window horizontally larger does not change the size of the

[Bug 764796] Re: Enable basic profiling & tracing options in kernel configuation

2011-10-17 Thread Vinod Krishnamoni
This is quite critical to ARM, not just from the point of view of
supporting the DS-5 profiling tools but OSS profiling tools like perf as
well, across silicon from different partners. Having different kernel
configurations for the different Linaro kernel trees makes the images
inconsistent and breaks the consolidation story.

[Bug 615107] Re: gnome session no longer offers a button to logout ou shutdown

2010-08-17 Thread Vinod
Happens to me sometimes. Is unpredictable as to when it will happen.
Today, it happened when I was playing around Compiz settings. After
trying to turn off "Wobble Window" and other settings, all applications
were moved to Desktop 1, the gnome panel on the top, in the indicator
applet, I no longer see the "Logout" button. Even my name is slightly
truncated. The "d" in my name appears as "c".

But this happened to me other times as well, when I have just logged in.
Sometimes, I see my login name overlap like "vinovinod". I reasoned
that since the login name has occupied the usual space for "Logout"
button, that button is off screen. But today's case and this bug report
proves otherwise. I guess my only option now is "kill -9 -1" or "sudo
shutdown now" in a gnome-terminal.

Please reopen this bug.

[Bug 589840] Re: thunderbird has black menu text with dark theme

2010-06-16 Thread Vinod
One thing I noticed is that in Lightning extension, the month and year
choices don't follow the theme colors. See the attached image. I
noticed even Skype's popup option would be behave similarly unless you
change option in Skype to use "GTK+" theme. No such choice in
Thunderbird.

Also the little circular "Progress" icon in the far right corner is
barely visible in Thunderbird.

[Bug 592916] [NEW] pilot-xfer can't transfer to SD cards larger than 4GB

2010-06-11 Thread Vinod
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pilot-link

Release: 10.04
Package: pilot-link 0.12.4-7ubuntu1

When I try to install a file on my 4GB SD card, I expect it to succeed,
but instead I get this error message:

Insufficient space to install this file on your Palm.
We needed 5972210 and only had 3992928256 available..

I see that this problem is fixed upstream in pilot-link 0.12.5, so I
installed that from source and it works. Could 0.12.5 be packaged for
Ubuntu?

Thanks for your consideration.

[Bug 589464] [NEW] /usr/sbin/bluetoothd doesn't get started automatically

2010-06-03 Thread Vinod
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluez

Lucid Lynx. When I reboot, bluetooth-applet says that Bluetooth is on,
but the icon is greyed out and it doesn't include any of the options to
send files, etc (attaching a screenshot of bluetooth menu). Toggling it
on and off has no effect. I've also noticed that bluetoothd is not
running. If I start bluetoothd manually, then everything works fine.

So, for some reason bluetoothd is not getting started properly, but I
don't know how to diagnose further.

Thanks!

[Bug 574763] [NEW] Cannot continue upgrade if keyboard disconnecte/reconnected

2010-05-03 Thread Vinod Appukuttan
Public bug reported:

I know its not a smart thing to do, but during the upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04
if you disconnect your keyboard your upgrade will be toast. Even if you
reconnect the keyboard its not detected and you cannot input anything. So if
the upgrade stops for user input thats the end of the upgrade. Dont know
whether this would be a bug or if something can be put in place during future
upgrade to handle it. The only option I had was to reset the computer and break
the upgrade.

Ideally I would have liked the keyboard to have reactivated when it was
plugged back in.

Thanks

I installed the new driver from the above PPA and was able to reproduce
the bug. This time X crashed as soon as I enabled blur so I wasn't able
to take a screenshot. But the effect was the same as before. Other info

UXA is enabled.

Compiz works like a charm until the blur plugin is enabled. Enabling
blur causes X to slow down drastically. Screen garbage is seen on
minimize and restoring a window. "Good" behaviour is restored by
disabling the blur plugin and restarting X.

Screenshot attached.

2008-10-04 Thread Vinod
Hi Peter,

I agree with you. I wanted to get the 2.6.27 kernel for a specific fix
which allowed me to use my laptop unplugged. So I thought I'd be
adventerous and try the beta release. Big mistake so far.

Hopefully things will be cleaned up soon.

Best wishes,

Vinod

2008-10-03 Thread Vinod
I had the same problem. I didn't keep track of exactly what I did, but
it seems to be fixed.

I redid my swap like you did. I then restarted and booted into single
user mode from grub. From the single-user menu, I did the reconfigure-
broken-packages option and the fix-xorg option and now things seem to
work. Sorry for not documenting my steps better...
