I apologise. I'll try to post it correctly next time.

2024-07-01 Thread Ward Rogers
I think you are right. It will either be digested by the system and
fixed or it won't. It's not critical, I'm sure.

There is one thing I'm curious about that you may or may not be able to
help with. I'm getting some odd results when I try to update some
repositories. Connection refused on static IP at home but fine with
mobile hotspot. I don't suppose the supps use bitninja, do they?

Re: [Bug 2071535] Re: The driver doesn't support transparency

2024-06-30 Thread Ward Rogers
I see.

It's hard to provide a screenshot to recreate the issue. I should have
been clearer. The problem is that one can't seem to have complete
control of transparency level. It's always tricky because you have to
contend with altered results (YMMV) depending on background, but that to
me seemed to be the bug.

Thanks for explaining the nuances of it. I wasn't aware I was reporting
a driver bug.

[Bug 2071361] Re: [BPO] xca 2.6.0-1 to noble, jammy

2024-06-27 Thread Thomas Ward
mapreri: qtbase5-dev a while ago was attempted but DID NOT pull in all
the dependencies, which was odd. Same thing also didn't provide the
proper libs (for some reason) with the upstream build system changes,
which I never had a chance to circle back to addressing.

This is in my list of things to test against for -2 or -3 (if I release
-2 first in Debian) for improvement.

[Bug 1995095] Re: xca unusable pfx export for android / macos

2024-06-27 Thread Thomas Ward
NOTEL This functionality was NOT available in XCA until 2.6.0. It is
now available in 2.6.0-1 in Debian and will be in the jammy-backports
and noble-backports pocket - once it is built and available, you can use
`sudo apt-get install xca/RELEASE-backports` to install the software
from the Backports pocket if you have the Backports pocket enabled.

---

Unfortunately, the problem here is that OpenSSL in Ubuntu 22.04 and
later have moved those algorithms to the 'legacy' provider.
Additionally, XCA 2.4.0 (and 2.5.0 in Noble currently) has no mechanism
to enable legacy authentication mechanisms via OpenSSL.

Because this is now available in 2.6.0 as a **feature**, I have already
started the process of making this a backport so 2.6.0-1 will be
available via the Backports pocket. (It fixes a bug in upstream Git,
however because this wasn't *available* in XCA, it's considered a "new
feature").

Fixing XCA 2.4 *itself* to fix this is much more invasive a process
because XCA has to first load the legacy provider AND change its export
functionality, which is something that is not SRUable because of the
extent of changes necessary to do this. Therefore, just use the
Backports version which should be available within a few hours.

[Bug 2071361] [NEW] [BPO] xca 2.6.0-1 to noble, jammy

2024-06-27 Thread Thomas Ward
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * XCA 2.6.0 introduces numerous internal bugfixes, but as the best
'bugfix'/feature change it introduces is the capacity to decide
whether to export using older algorithms for PKCS12 files which
enables legacy device support for certificate packages, such as
Android, Windows, etc. which don't support latest algos.
(addresses LP#1995095 from this feature change, not available
until 2.6.0 and not 'fixable' with an SRU as this was not an
   'available feature' earlier)
 * Multiple internal changes which improve UI and functionality.

[Scope]

 * Origin: Oracular (in sync with Debian Unstable)

 * Targets: Noble, Jammy

[Other Info]

 * I am the Debian maintainer of XCA and primary driver for its
   updates.

 * Jammy does not have the t64 transition. As such, a change from
UNRELEASED 2.6.0-2 in Debian Salsa will be applied that adds an
'or' dependency on the non-t64 migration Qt5 libraries to allow
backport functionality for Jammy only. Otherwise, there is no
   modification to the package.

[Testing]

 * Noble:
   [X] Package builds without modification
[X] xca-dbgsym installs cleanly (no executables)
[X] xca installs cleanly and runs
 * Jammy:
[X] Package builds without modification (**see notes**)
[X] xca-dbgsym installs cleanly (no executables)
[X] xca installs cleanly and runs

No reverse dependencies

[Bug 1883951] Re: [wishlist] drop ssl_protocols and ssl_prefer_server_ciphers from nginx.conf

2024-06-14 Thread Thomas Ward
Prefer server ciphers is off in later configs.

A warning does not necessitate a hard error that needs fixing.

Note that in Ubuntu this nginx.conf originates in Debian, so I would
like the Debian nginx team's opinions on putting this change in Unstable
as well so as not to introduce another delta.

[Bug 2056578] Re: [SRU - Noble] Tor Browser - keyboard not functioning

2024-06-06 Thread Thomas Ward
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
Due to various changes in AppArmor, and the AppArmor policy for Tor Browser
installed by the launcher, the default ibus/dbus abstractions don't include
user-space access to DBUS/IBUS.

This results in Tor Browser being unable to read keyboard input in
userspace, resulting in a Non-Functional application. While Tor Browser
*launcher* still works, the underlying Tor Browser inherits the AppArmor
profile from torbrowser-launcher, hence this needs updated here.

  [Test Plan]
This fix has already been tested and implemented in Debian upstream.
However, it was not available before FeatureFreeze, and was not available in
Debian until post-Noble release.

This has already been tested manually by others, but as soon as a
version with the patch present is available, a user should install the
updated torbrowser-launcher package and the updated AppArmor profile
should apply, and the program should work as usual.

  [Regression Potential]
Extremely limited. This simply allows access to userspace dbus/ibus access
for Keyboard input.

Note that this exact same line being added to the AppArmor profile here
exists in the Firefox AppArmor ruleset as well, and since Tor Browser
and Firefox share much of the same code, this should have limited to no
impact as this has existed in Firefox for a long time.

+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ The only thing that might happen is extra access to dbus/ibus interfaces
+ for input handling. However, as this change being added by SRU is
+ already in the Firefox apparmor profile, this shouldn't cause any
+ issues.
+
+
  [Other Info]
This is already available in Debian Unstable, and also in Oracular due to the
sync.

[Bug 2067523] [NEW] `mk-sbuild` on older Ubuntu versions like 22.04 are unable to build new Debian chroots

2024-05-29 Thread Thomas Ward
Public bug reported:

Sometimes, when we are working with both Ubuntu and Debian, we need to
create a Debian chroot for build testing.

Unfortunately, mk-sbuild is UNABLE to create Debian chroots. Currently,
the first error is that "/bin/true" is nonexistent (it's in
`/usr/bin/true` now). Then, it fails trying to execute ldconfig, and a
continual chain of issues.

It's possible this is a debootstrap problem, but one that probably needs
rectified.

[Bug 2061637] Re: [SRU] xx-svn-review crashed with ModuleNotFoundError

2024-05-27 Thread Thomas Ward
waveform: In order to be valid each release needs to have a higher
version. Especially if its the same version then it has to have
0.ubuntuXX.YY.Z if 0 is the base. Otherwise it affects upgrading if we
have the same version in multiple releases.

[Bug 2056578] Re: Tor Browser - keyboard not functioning

Note that this is not yet released in Debian. I have a bunch of things
to fix in the packaging first such as lintian issues and copyright
files.

I can debdiff this into Ubuntu as an SRU after the Debian package is
fully functional and compliant with policy.

[Bug 2065491] Re: [BPO] far2l/2.6.0~beta+ds-1ubuntu0.1 from noble-updates

2024-05-11 Thread Thomas Ward
"Convenient applicatiom used by server admins" - a little info here on
what it does and WHY it would be useful in older LTSes is important. As
well as why "other functionality" isn't sufficient, in order to justify
the backport.

We also need confirmation that the package works as is when backported,
and you need to either be willing to update/maintain the backport or
upload with or without a sponsor the package. The Backports team does
not take those responsibilities on itself.

2024-05-10 Thread Thomas Ward
You have a broken configuration file.

May 11 00:15:19 HP-Pavilion-Notebook nginx[1389]: 2024/05/11 00:15:19
[emerg] 1389#1389: unknown directive "listen" in
/etc/nginx/sites-enabled/flask_app:2

You need to refer to your configurations and make sure they're actually
valid. You are probably missing things like a server block/stanza, etc.

This however is NOT a package bug. (Please do not use bugs for support

[Bug 2064432] Re: Merge nginx 1.26.0 from Debian unstable for oracular

2024-05-03 Thread Thomas Ward
bryce:

We will need to coordinate because an ABI change means we need a
transition of all the extra nginx source packages to have a rebuild.
Because we have ABI compliance now.

We're testing and debugging these in Experimental / Unstable now, as
part of Debian nginx policies to start in experimental and fix things
before putting in Unstable/Testing. Once we figure out some of the weird
nuances we're seeing we should be able to move forward. It will be a
full merge and I'm happy to let you and the Server team handle it. (I'm
currently busy with my packages in Debian and my DD application)

Due to how versions of software are updated in Ubuntu, this is not able
to be directly-updated to 0.3.6 or later in Ubuntu 22.04 (you may want
to familiarize yourself with the SRU process as to understanding why)

2024-03-10 Thread Thomas Ward
Your configuration is bad. Refer to the error log output in journalctl:

mar 10 19:00:41 wojciech-To-be-filled-by-O-E-M nginx[1323]: nginx:
[emerg] cannot load certificate "/etc/diaspora/ssl/localhost-

directory:fopen('/etc/diaspora/ssl/localhost-bundle.pem','r')
error:2006D080:BIO routines:BIO_new_file:no such file)

You need to solve the problem of the missing SSL cert bundle.

Not an NGINX problem but specific to your configs and system.

2022-06-04 Thread Thomas Ward
"failed to install/upgrade" also means that a package failed to
configure. If as Simon says the packages were left unconfigured, then
that means the package is "Installed but failed to restart on upgrade"
which is an action the postinst scripts execute. So it may not be an
'installer' failure but the configuration failure which led to a false
'installer failed' situation because postinst is configured to
reload/restart the NGINX processes on an upgrade.

Looks like during your upgrade a certificate went awry, but this isn't
an NGINX issue, it's the maintenance of your system on your end.

From the journalctl data:

Jun 04 14:21:05 heliopolis-aws nginx[44002]: nginx: [emerg] cannot load
certificate "/etc/ssl/certs/heliosd.crt": BIO_new_file() failed (SSL:

Jun 04 14:21:05 heliopolis-aws nginx[44002]: nginx: configuration file

The required certificate file is missing and can't be found.

[Bug 1968076] Re: [BPO] ipmctl with support for CPS hardware

2022-06-02 Thread Thomas Ward
NACK as is. (negative acknowledgement aka "Debdiff Rejected")

You are attempting to submit a new upstream version not in the Ubuntu
repositories. Unlike Debian, an Ubuntu backport requires a little more
work to push this in.

Jammy has 03.00.00.0423-1. Your debdiff is for 03.00.00.0429 which is
**not** available in any Ubuntu release (even the development release).

Rebase your diff against the package in Jammy (dsc link:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+sourcefiles/ipmctl/03.00.00.0423-1/ipmctl_03.00.00.0423-1.dsc
- dget this), and then re-provide your debdiff here. I'll check it for
sanity before uploading.

[Bug 1964763] Re: QtChooser doesn't support qt6

2022-05-26 Thread Thomas Ward
If Qt6 is dead upstream, then it's probably a candidate for removal as
soon as Qt5 is retired.

Note that because Debian has refused to even add Qt6 because QtChooser
is dead upstream by design, and I'm gathering as such should not be used
with Qt6, I opened a Debian bug suggesting that they mark the package as
"Breaks:" for all Qt6 libraries.

[Bug 1970390] Re: nginx install error on Ubuntu 20.04.04 LTS

2022-04-26 Thread Thomas Ward
YOu're welcome, that's the workaround for these cases.

Note that this exact issue was 'discussed' back in 2015 by the upstream
Debian team and they rejected changing it because IPv6 being disabled is
"non-standard", and a user/admin level decision at the endpoints of
things, so when anything 'non-standard' happens it needs to be handled
by those admins with workarounds.

[Bug 1743592] Re: NGINX fails to start/install/upgrade if IPv6 is completely disabled.

2022-04-26 Thread Thomas Ward
This is a pretty old issue but in Debian they made a decision to not
accomodate this back in 2015 for when IPv6 is disabled on systems on the
basis of "not only is it non-standard but it's nonsensical":

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=779825#97

The workaround for this is when dpkg or apt fail is to edit
/etc/nginx/sites-available/default, remove the IPv6 listen line, and then run
`apt install -f` - this can even be automated too. Automation tooling that is
not able to do this is the fault of the tooling.

I'm going to close this as 'won't fix' because there's really no actions
needed by the teams here. And this has sat without any activity for
over a year.

[Bug 1970390] Re: nginx install error on Ubuntu 20.04.04 LTS

2022-04-26 Thread Thomas Ward
CentOS uses completely different packaging than Debian. The problem
here is that the Debian and Ubuntu developers of NGINX decided to
support "the most common setups" - the Debian and thus Ubuntu default
configurations ship both IPv4 and IPv6 support. You can fix this by
changing the `/etc/nginx/sites-available/default` listener and remove
the IPv6 line and then running `apt install -f` and it should properly
finish configuring it.

Remember this: When comparing Debian/Ubuntu to non-Debian/Ubuntu **the
packages are different and wildly so** so you cannot compare CentOS to
Debian/Ubuntu and vice versa for 'default functionality'.

archive admins dont think i386ing the RPM source is a good idea based on

debugedit has splitsource in later versions, perhaps a split-source is
needed here. However I would suggest we defer to archive admins for
best approach here

[Bug 1965855] [NEW] p7zip source package needs "Multiarch: foreign" in debian/control

2022-03-21 Thread David Ward
Public bug reported:

The p7zip:i386 and p7zip-full:i386 packages are missing in focal.

The result is that debhelper in focal-backports cannot be used to build
i386 packages. It depends on debugedit:i386, which is missing, because
p7zip-full:i386 is a build dependency.

Please apply this patch to focal. It adds the "Multiarch: foreign" field to
both binary packages in the control file.

[Bug 1965800] [NEW] debhelper in focal-backports not usable for i386 package building (missing dependency)

2022-03-21 Thread David Ward
Public bug reported:

focal-backports contains debhelper 13.5.2ubuntu1~bpo20.04.1. This is an
architecture-independent package, but it depends on debugedit, which is
architecture-dependent.

The debugedit package exists in focal-universe for amd64, but not for
i386. As a result, Launchpad is not able to build PPA packages targeting
focal i386 that require debhelper-compat (= 13).

This would appear to be an oversight. It does not affect bionic,
hirsuite, impish, or jammy; all of these contain the debugedit:i386
package. (It was moved from universe to main at some point after focal.)

clarity sake when I say "later today")

Then this should be trivial to backport, if you need it backported
waveform and you don't want to handle the actual backport uploads, I'll
take this on, I have some spare cycles today this afternoon.

[Bug 1965758] Re: [BPO] debhelper/13.6ubuntu1 from jammy to bionic, focal

2022-03-21 Thread Thomas Ward
waveform: Paride: given this bug, wouldn't this be more suited for full
SRU and rebuilds? I'm wondering whether this is truly a backportable
case because this requires rebuild of all affected packages, and if
anyone builds with debhelper in backports (which is NOT available in
standard build envs I believe easily) that will lead to the upgrade
breakage.

[Bug 1965758] Re: [BPO] debhelper/13.6ubuntu1 from jammy to bionic, focal

2022-03-21 Thread Thomas Ward
Whoops looks like we had some collission in terms of assignments.
Reassigning to waveform.

Once this is looked at and looks OK at the Canonical level, then the
Backports Team will take over backporting this. Keep in mind that since
the original Backports process is mostly scrapped, the Backports Team
does have primary jurisdiction for these packages in the backports
pocket under the new process under "Special Cases".

[Bug 1965688] Re: package nginx-core 1.18.0-6ubuntu14 failed to install/upgrade: installed nginx-core package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2022-03-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Not a bug, you just have bad config.

From your logs:

> Mar 20 13:32:34 spark nginx[68287]: nginx: [emerg] a duplicate default
server for 0.0.0.0:80 in /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/embracehealth.io:209

So you need to figure out where else you've defined default_server and
remove it from the other one. Or remove it from the embracehealth.io
domain config.

[Bug 1905519] Re: Syslog is flooded with Object St.Bin (0x565425162c80), has been already deallocated — impossible to set any property on it. This might be caused by the object having been destroyed f

2022-03-18 Thread Jeff Ward
Sorry I don't check this forum often.

I'm on 20.04.3. When I try to update + upgrade that package, apt tells
me I'm stuck with version 68

gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock is already the newest version
(68ubuntu1~20.04.1).

[Bug 1632183] Re: saned not find scanner that scanimage -L finds

2022-03-15 Thread David Ward
There shouldn't be a problem here. The purpose of saned is to share
scanners that are physically attached to the local system, so that
remote systems can use them. If the scanner is already accessible over
the network, a remote system can connect to it without using saned.

See also /usr/share/doc/libsane1/README.Debian.gz and
/usr/share/doc/sane-utils/README.Debian regarding permissions for
scanner device files and saned in Debian/Ubuntu.

  --format=pnm

Does the image still have artifacts?

[Bug 1890464] Re: Can not scan as user

2022-03-12 Thread David Ward
Assuming you are not in the lp or scanner groups, what happens if you
try to use scanimage to scan an image? (See "scanimage --help" for
syntax, and use the device name that appears when you run "scanimage
-L".)

If that doesn't work, can you add the --verbose flag to scanimage, and
attach the output here?

Actually, here's a better question first. Take yourself out of the lp
and scanner groups. What do you see when you run:

What are you using to start the daemon (systemd, inetd, sysvinit)? Can
you add the command-line option "--debug=5" and post the same part of
the system log?

[Bug 1890464] Re: Can not scan as user

2022-03-12 Thread David Ward
Yes, that is what I meant by physically logged in.

You shouldn't need to be in the scanner group (or the lp group) in that
case.

If you remove yourself from both of those groups, does this stop
working? If so, what is the output of "sudo scanimage -L"?
