The return to the login prompt is because Feisty changed the default to not allow multiple logins for the same user. [Bug 103400] Re: compiz freezes x server after screensaver kicks in
AMD Athlon XP 1600+ processor and GeForce FX5200 showing similar problems. Currently, I am running beryl and I think I found a trend in my case. See if you can replicate it. If I add any more applets to the panel at the top, then I find that the machine will go to blank screen and never come out again. I have the exit applet, the date and time applet, the peaker applet, and the NM applet (all standard form install). Also, I have the Beryl ruby icon and an icon for Gaim (or Pidgin). See attachment. After a fresh install, everything was fine. Until I added the weather applet. It started freezing regularly. I removed the applet and it went through the night no problem. An update came through and the update icon seemed to trigger another freeze. Then fine since then. I'll do some more testing to try and get more scientific about it. ** Attachment added: Screenshot.png http://librarian.launchpad.net/7402103/Screenshot.png -- compiz freezes x server after screensaver kicks in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103400 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 29296] Re: poor gxine performance due to poor stock settings
I would second this as an issue. I have a Thinkpad 600E (P2 400) running Xubunt Edgy. Thanks to this bug and advice, I have had to increase the buffer for the audio engine to be able to listen a CD. The CD would play but would drop out every 2 seconds for a second and then keep playing. Increasing the audio buffer four-fold solved the problem. On the other hand, my Dell Latitude CPx (P3 500) has the same settings and plays CDs without the drop outs. So, it does seem that the basic settings are only suitable for some systems. -- poor gxine performance due to poor stock settings https://launchpad.net/bugs/29296 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 61578] [Edgy] Wrong boot disk parameter since 2.6.17-7
Public bug reported: Since kernel 2.6.17-7, the boot parameter in /boot/grub/menu.lst is set to /dev/sda1. Of four machines that are running latest Edgy, only one will boot (it is SATA). On the remaining machines, I have the manually change /dev/sda1 to /dev/hda1 to get the machines to boot. I believe that this is related to kernel changes around SATA/PATA from 2.6.17-7. This bug is showing up in a lot of forum threads and is affecting a number of Edgy testers. I suspect that there are a number of bugs around the symptoms as well. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- [Edgy] Wrong boot disk parameter since 2.6.17-7 https://launchpad.net/bugs/61578 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 59792] Re: Kernel 2.6.17-7-generic fails to boot, I get the BusyBox instead
I can only get my 2.6.17-7 kernel to boot (same symptoms and 2.6.17-6 boots fine) by changing /dev/sda1 to /dev/hda1 in the kernel parameters. I have 3 (older) machines that exhibit the same behaviour. A fourth (more recent) machine boots fine, but it has a SATA disk. -- Kernel 2.6.17-7-generic fails to boot, I get the BusyBox instead https://launchpad.net/bugs/59792 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 58721] Re: Matrox MGA200 doesn't work after upgrade from Dapper to Edgy
I can also confirm this. I can get the higher resolution, but only at low frequency. Previously, I have been able to run the MGA200 at 1024x768 at 85Hz. Now, if I try this the monitor shows a message saying not able to sync. Dell Optiplex PC running Xubuntu Edgy with latest updates. Worked without any problems in Dapper. -- Matrox MGA200 doesn't work after upgrade from Dapper to Edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/58721 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 40116] Re: Thinkpad 600e sound hardware not detected with Ubuntu Dapper Drake live CD (Flight 6)
Known problem with the TP600E. The soundcard is incorrectly identified as CS462x. There are plenty of web pages out there describing solutions to this. But here is the Reader's Digest version: 1. Blacklist the incorrect sound card in /etc/modprobe.dblacklist. Add lines for blacklist snd-cs46xx blacklist cs46xx as written above - with the xx's 2. Add the following lines into /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base alias char-major-116 snd alias char-major-14 soundcore alias snd-card-0 snd-cs4236 options snd-cs4236 isapnp=0 cport=0x538 port=0x530 sb_port=0x220 fm_port=0x388 irq=5 dma1=1 dma2=0 alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 alias sound-slot-1 snd-card-1 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss alias /dev/mixer snd-mixer-oss alias /dev/dsp snd-pcm-oss alias /dev/midi snd-seq-oss options snd cards_limit=1 NOTE: When copying and pasting the above, make sure that the line starting with 'options...' is *one* line ending with '...dma2=0'. 3. Add the line snd-cs4236 to the file /etc/modules Reboot. Also important: During power up, if you press F2 (I think), you get into change the config. In this you need to make sure that the Fastboot option is *disabled*. If you are still having no success: try adding 'acpi=off pnpbois=off' at the end of the kernel boot params. Press 'esc' during Grub countdown and select 'e' to edit the boot command and add these to the end. If need these to allow my Xircom PCMCIA ether card to work. One last thing: the default starting volume is very low, so make sure that you set the volume to high using the keyboard Fn+PgUp key combination. -- Thinkpad 600e sound hardware not detected with Ubuntu Dapper Drake live CD (Flight 6) https://launchpad.net/bugs/40116 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Having said all of the above, it would be excellent if Ubuntu is able to work out a way to make this work out of the box. -- Thinkpad 600e sound hardware not detected with Ubuntu Dapper Drake live CD (Flight 6) https://launchpad.net/bugs/40116 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
