[Bug 669730] [NEW] Buttons in gnome/gdm left-handed user 'lock screen' react only for left mouse button
Public bug reported: Recently, I have change my mouse setting to be 'left-hand mouse' in Gnome (Ubuntu 10.4.1 LTS). After that my family found they cannot switch user using "switch user" button if I was the person who had locked the screen. I investigated situation a bit further and found that I had to click right mouse button rather than left (standard one) to initiate any action. This is ridiculous, because you cannot expect people to know (and remember) mouse settings of all other user having account on that computer. On the other hand, on the 'lock screen' one button is enough, so the best resolution will be threat all buttons as 'main' one (or at least do not differentiate the left and right one). ** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: gdm gnome hand left lock mouse multiuser screen settings ** Package changed: linux (Ubuntu) => meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu) -- Buttons in gnome/gdm left-handed user 'lock screen' react only for left mouse button https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/669730 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 465117] Re: Reporting a bug in 9.10 - some kind of joke
First of all thank you quick action. I see the point of your attempts but the effect is that the choice is "not idea bugs report" (earlier) "no bugs report" (now). Some comment what's wrong and how maybe makes it better: 1) WRONG: Assumption that it work in each situation! It quite obvious that it failed somehow. - So in such case it'll be nice to be able send you some report about it. - Moreover, any foreseeing developer would prepare the VISIBLE button/link "There something wrong. If you want you can use our web interface". 2) Wrong: Ignoring significant group of your users. I don't have statistic, but I guess that many of people using Ubuntu can be describe as 'power users'. It's nice that you are trying to do something for normal people users, but why you forgetting about us? If you are simply something could you please leave the "Advance option", where the people can control option. 3) wrong: Design. I don't like mixing "OS level" and "Web level" way of reporting bugs. I see the place for something like Apple "after crash" tool in Ubuntu, but on the website "Report the bug" should mean "Report the bug" not "Use this Tool from your desktop". How should I report bug I think it would be really nice for average Joe's to make reporting easier from inside the system. In one of the Menu i.e. System add new entry "Report the bug". This entry would open the window with list of running software, of course sorted in smart way. User choose application add (or not) the note. In the mean time tool can start to gather information about the OS. Really smart might be creating database with running software, so the people who wants could report about software which just crushed. 4) wrong? I think that you haven't test it enough. Lack of properly testing. I guess that my problem with error report was cause by proxy. I don't know, but because proxy causes many disasters in Linux I would say it was the problem. Sorry for being a bit nervous, but first touch of 9.10 nearly kill me. I think I'll stop to use it as I don't like to be treat as an idiot and you are heading this direction. I would describe that you are trying to make another Windows, but without MS advantages. Public bug reported: This bug is continuation of the bug 217215. To avoid any problems related to attempts describe I decided to start with 'clean account'. (and created the new bug entry) Clean account means: 1) Remove hplip*, foo2zjs, footomatic package. 2) Remove any further files related to hp1018 find /usr/share -name "*1018*" ./foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1018.img ./ppd/hpijs/HP/hp_laserjet_1018-hpijs.ppd 3) Remove orphaned /usr/share/hplip directory After restarting the printer a system message appear pointing that new hardware had been installed and suggesting that hpijs package support the HP 1018 printer. Re: [Bug 217215] Re: HP LJ 1018 regression in hardy
The situation is more complicated. Short description. There are two HP 1018 in my family (mostly because they should work fine with Linux). I have HP1018 in UK and my father in Poland. I think that until now both of them didn't use Ubuntu packages. Recently I reinstalled my Ubuntu and tried if the problem was fixed in Ubuntu. After some attempts with HP Toolbox printer started to work. In the meantime my father Ubuntu 8.04.1 crashed so badly that we had to reinstall it. So I tried follow HP Toolbox path once more (HPLIP guarantee support for HP 1018). We spent few hours without success. I think that the problem was that we couldn't download firmware. I decided to compare list of files with 1018 in a name on my father and mine computer. I found one of following files missing on his: /usr/share/hplip/data/firmware/hp_laserjet_1018.fw.gz /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/printer/HP-LaserJet_1018.xml /usr/share/ppd/hpijs/HP/hp_laserjet_1018-hpijs.ppd /usr/share/ppd/foo2zjs/HP-LaserJet_1018.ppd.gz I copied it, but it didn't help. After some time I tried to ran /usr/sbin/hplj1018 on my father computer and it failed so I compared the files and fixed my father one. After that printer started to work. But it isn't working today. There are a lot of error message during (slow) system start. What I going to do: Remove from my machine all the printer specific package and files and start again. -- HP LJ 1018 regression in hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217215 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
