[Bug 936667] Re: Upstart early job logging causes boot failure for systems with no initramfs (error is "No available ptys")

2012-03-19 Thread Justin L Werner
The --no-log will be a kernel command line option.

If you're on x86 or amd64, you would stop the Grub boot, and manually
edit the kernel cmdline to add the --no-log. Then, once you're up and
running, you would edit /etc/default/grub changing GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX,
to affect both normal and recovery modes. Once you've done that, you
run 'update-grub' and you should be good to go.

[Bug 933139] Re: l2tp-ipsec-vpn failed trying to connect to l2tp VPN

2012-03-15 Thread Werner Jaeger
Hi Julian,

I've implemented a workaround for the xl2tpd IPPARAM bug in version
1.0,6. So, with this version it should be possible to use the newest
xl2tpd version (that one delivered with precise distribution).

Tell me if it is not working anyway!

[Bug 197119] Re: evolution message filters: only first action is performed

2012-03-08 Thread Martin Erik Werner
The
1. mark read
2. move
should work as per upstream, if not that is clearly a bug.

The other way should work, or give a warning in order to remain a sane
UI, which is a feature request.

This is incorrectly marked as a support request.

Could you please check out this version to see if this it solves the

Unfortunately the ipparam problem with the xl2tp package continues in

[Bug 941338] [NEW] FFE: Sync redeclipse 1.2-2 (multiverse) from Debian unstable (contrib)

2012-02-26 Thread Martin Erik Werner
Public bug reported:

* Feature Freeze Exception Request *

Please sync redeclipse 1.2-2 (multiverse) from Debian unstable (contrib)

Currently the defualt size icon which are displayed in the Unity app
launcher is incorrectly sized (x32 instead of x48) which makes it look
very ugly. It would be nice if you could sync this update in order to
get a prettier icon :)

Changelog entries since current precise version 1.2-1:

redeclipse (1.2-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/backported-fix-icon-sizes.patch
- Fix icon size and location, cherry-picked from upstream SVN
  * Standards-Version 3.9.3
- Set final copyright Format: link
  * Instruct to use -h before -r in reportbug instrutions

[Bug 934951] Re: FFE: Sync redeclipse 1.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (contrib)

2012-02-23 Thread Martin Erik Werner
I have tested and confirmed that installing the packages and running the
application works in the current precise-amd64-daily liveCD.

I'm also attaching buildlogs from precise pbuilder-chroots in case it is
helpful.
These logs include installation tests (using theB92test-pkg pbuilder hook with
--force-yes), and includes a local mini-dinstall instance in order to supply
the redeclipse-data package for the install test.

Ah, subscribing ubuntu-release instead of -sponsors. Should the status
be wishlist or new? The only place I see any mention of it is at the
sync request documentation which says that it should be "new"...

[Bug 918791] Re: qemu-kvm dies when using vmvga driver and unity in the guest

2012-02-15 Thread Justin L Werner
I tried to build a 64-bit Precise desktop virt using libvirt manager,
itself running on a 64-bit AMD 4-core box with Precise. When
specifying the vmvga/vmware option, qemu keeled over and died as soon as
(in VNC) it looked like the card was going into graphics mode.

I then built the image specifying 'cirrus' and launched it, played with
it a bit w/unity 2d. Slow, but functional in my setup. I then
relaunched the image specifying the 'vmware' vga option, and as soon as
it looked as though the card were going into a high-res graphics mode,
qemu SIGABRT-ed and died.

I then built a non-optimized unstripped qemu-kvm and tried launching
directly wihile running under 'gdb'. I'm not all that familiar with
dealing w/multi-threaded userspace code, but using the 'vmware' vga
device, it doesn't take much to get a SEGFAULT (very repeatable with my
setup):

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

[Bug 931738] Re: Sync cube2font 1.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2012-02-13 Thread Martin Erik Werner
Ack! Seems like the libfreetype6-dev was pulled along with the rest of
the build-dependencies on Debain, wheras only libfreetype6 is pulled in
on Ubuntu.

Regardless, the build-dependecies were simultaneously superfluous and
incomplete, I've fixed this and requested sponsorship for this, hope to
re-request sync as soon as it's uploaded.

[Bug 926676] [NEW] False result after special character input

2012-02-04 Thread Werner Holtfreter
Public bug reported:

gcalctool 6.2.0-0ubuntu2 is a great tool to copy, past and calculate
formula from a document. Normally, false syntax causes a error message,
for example "1+1W+1" --> ERROR. That is OK.

But the result of "1+1Ω+1" is NOT "error" but "2"!

The charakter above is "Omega", but it is the same with other special
characters, for example "no-break space". All characters after the
special charakter are ignored.

By the way: A nice feature after fix this bug: Immediately marking red
and ignoring all caracters which not needed for calculation. For
example: 12 V x 2 A --> 24.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10

[Bug 920277] [NEW] LibreOffice Calc crashes when using B-Spline

2012-01-22 Thread Werner Kuballa
Public bug reported:

When trying to set the the "Smooth lines" property in "Chart Type" to
"B-Spline", Calc crashes without any error messages.

I am using:

libreoffice-calc 1:3.5.0~beta2-2ubuntu4 office productivity suite --
spreadsheet

Ubuntu precise (development branch)

Linux BigBoy 3.2.0-10-generic #17-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jan 19 19:04:20 UTC
2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The attached calc-document is a simple failcase which shows the
behavior. Just edit the graph on the second sheet and change the
"smooth lines" property in the "chart type" dialog to "B-Spline". When
clicking "ok", Calc simply terminates.

[Bug 918583] [NEW] gedit:7954 - no such file/folder error

2012-01-19 Thread werner
Public bug reported:

When I edit a file, e.g.:

gksudo gedit /etc/fstab

Make some changes and when saving I see these errors:

(gedit:2223): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to store changes into
`/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but failed: Failed to create
file '/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel.PWS47V': No such file or
directory

(gedit:2223): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to set the permissions of
`/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but failed: No such file or
directory

Note that they don't relate to the file I am editing.

I had moved "/home" to a separate partition and then install a Xubuntu

[Bug 915410] Re: wake up from suspend/hibernate does a full boot

2012-01-15 Thread werner
Looking for performance tuning tips I came across this:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwapFaq

doing these threee steps:

1. gksu gedit /etc/default/grub & to pull up the boot loader configuration
2. Look for the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" and make sure it looks like this
(using your UUID of course)
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="resume=UUID=41e86209-3802-424b-9a9d-d7683142dab7" and save
the file

3. sudo update-grub and wait for it to finish

Reboot the machine and hibernate is working again.

Can someone please close this bug.

[Bug 915410] [NEW] wake up from suspend/hibernate does a full boot

2012-01-12 Thread werner
Public bug reported:

Running Xubuntu 11.10 on a SONY VAIO notebook with Intel i5 and NVidia
GeForce GT 330M.

The Video driver is NVIDIA 280.13.

When selecting to "Suspend" from the Logout dialog the machine suspends
without any problems, i.e. var/log/pm-suspsend.log shows as the last
entry:

/etc/pm/sleep.d/novatel_3g_suspend suspend suspend: success.
Thu Jan 12 01:45:18 CET 2012: performing suspend

I don't see any "wake up" entries in this log file.

But when one wakes the machine by e.g. pressing any key on the keyboard
I see just about immediately the VAIO boot logo and then the GRUB2 menu
is displayed.

I previously was running with 10.10 and suspend was working without
problems.

Tried e.g. the following without any change.

http://thecodecentral.com/2011/01/18/fix-ubuntu-10-10-suspendhibernate-not-working-bug
http://turbulentsky.com/resume-from-hibernate-failed-on-ubuntu.html

Please let me know if I need to provide more details (log files etc
etc).

[Bug 574573] Re: Can't resume after hibernate or suspend (nouveau and nvidia-current)

2012-01-09 Thread werner
Actually had it working under 10.04, recently upgraded to 11.04 and just
after to 11.10 and now I am on 11.10 Xubuntu and I can suspend the
machine and it all looks like it goes down correctly, but when I resume
(pressing any key) machine starts up and pretty quickly shows the grub
menu and does a full restart instead of resuming the suspended session.

This is on a Sony VAIO with Intel Core i5 and Nvidia GeForce GT 330M and
using the Nvidia Driver 280.13.

Let me know if you need further details.

[Bug 897750] Re: libvirt/kvm problem with disk attach/detach/reattach on running virt

2011-12-19 Thread Justin L Werner
Some incremental findings:

In 'qemu-kvm' the DeviceState for the peer device of the
BlockDeviceState that gets created when a disk attached by 'virsh
attach-disk' references the 'QemuOpts' options structure that lists the
options and the device ID string (ex: as 'virtio-disk4') that will (on a
re-attach for the same disk when the hotplug module is not loaded in the
virt) be found by 'qemu_find_opts()' under the call to 'drive_add'.

When the PCI hotplug module *is* loaded in the virt, the DriveState structure
and the associatsd QemuOpts get released from within a separate thread by a
call to 'qdev_free()' asynchronously from the main thread's invocation of
'do_device_del()'. When the PCI hotplug modules is *not* loaded in the
virt, there is never an invocation of 'qdev_free' for the device , so the
options structure hangs around to be located in the attempt to re-attach a disk
for the same disk, and we get the Duplicate ID error. In the even of the
hotplug module being loaded in the virt, the trace of the thread which invokes
'qdev_free' looks something like:

In a nutshell, the code is designed such that there is a resource leak
if the virt does not play ball with PCI hotplugging in a case like this.
I have yet to do complete line of code: I will have to have a much
better understanding of the Qemu PCI handling mechanisms first, I think.
Still I believe there are potentially useful findings in further nailing
this bug (design feature?).

[Bug 897750] Re: libvirt/kvm problem with disk attach/detach/reattach on running virt

2011-12-14 Thread Justin L Werner
I've been looking at libvirt and qemu for other work, I'm doing, and
I've criceld back to take another look at this.

Since I first looked at this, my testbed has updated to use the
"oneiric-proposed"
   qemu-kvm package '0.14.1+noroms-0ubuntu6.1'
while retaining the libvirt-bin package
   0.9.2-4ubuntu15.1

I tried to duplicate the problem again, but this time my Linux virt had
'acpiphp.ko'
(the PCI hotplug module) loaded, and I was *unable* to reproduce the 'Duplicate
ID'
error. Instead, continued attach/detach cycles resulted in success every time
after
.gt. 30 iterations.

==
**As a side-note and possibly to be addressed as a separate bug, the drive
does not
actually get attached as the specified device each time inside the virt. So
even though
the 'attach-disk --target' specifies, say, vdb, the virt kernel increments the
devname
inside itself, so that we get vdc, vdd, vde The attaches subsequent to
the detatch
of vdz results in vdaa,, vdab, vdac and so on.
==

Now here's the kicker. If you do an 'rmmod' on the PCI hotplug module within
the
virt and try the attach/detach/attach, the 'Duplicate ID' problem re-occurs.
This
implies to me that there is some sort of effective interaction between qemu-kvm
and the virt that affects this. That is, when the virt actually gets and
handles a
device eject, then qemu-kvm behaves differently than when the virt does not
get/handle it.

Dec 14 09:54:16 base1 kernel: [ 2226.877208] virtio-pci :00:1b.0: PCI INT A

--

So, this gives us a better characterization of the bug, and I will look into it
some more with this
in mind.

But, I think that the 'Duplicate ID' messages is generated from within
qemu-kvm, so perhaps an interaction between libvirt/qemu.

[Bug 897750] [NEW] libvirt/kvm problem with disk attach/detach/reattach on running virt

2011-11-29 Thread Justin L Werner
Public bug reported:

Release: Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric)
libvirt-bin: 0.9.2-4ubuntu15.1
qemu-kvm: 0.14.1+noroms-0ubuntu6

Summary:With a running KVM virt, performing an 'attach-disk', then a
'detach-disk', then another 'attach-disk'
in an attempt to reattach the volume at the same point on the virt, fails, with
the qemu reporting back to
libvirt a 'Duplicate ID' error.

Expected behavior: The 2nd invocation of 'attach-disk' should have succeeded
Actual behavior: Duplicate ID error reported

I believe this is most likely a qemu-kvm issue, as the DOM kvm spits back at
libvirt after the 'detach-disk'
does not show the just-detached disk. There is some kind of registry/lookup
for devices in qemu-kvm
and for whatever reason, the entry for the disk does not get removed when it is
detached from the
virt. Specifically, the error gets reported at the 2nd attach-disk attempt
from:

[Bug 880676] [NEW] LyX spellchecker doesn't work in the Ubuntu repository version

2011-10-23 Thread Micha H. Werner
Public bug reported:

If I install LyX from the Ubuntu repo, I can only select enchant as a
spellchecker, other options, including hunspell, are greyed despite the
fact that they are installed properly. What is more, enchant does not
seem to work. If I compile LyX from the sources, however, I can choose
hunspell and everything works fine (with version 2.0.0 as well as
2.0.1). The problem applies to Ubuntu 11.04 and 11.10.

[Bug 880276] [NEW] Freshly installed system doesn't use connected analog monitor

2011-10-23 Thread Werner Mathé
Public bug reported:

When installing oneiric ocelot (the "Try ubuntu" feature worked perfectly) the
connected analog monitor started flashing.
Switching to consoles (Ctrl-Alt-F1...) left the screen black.
When I later connected a display device at the HDMI port it worked.
I installed the proprietary ATI drivers (and installed all recommended updates)
and after rebooting the analog monitor worked.

My graphics card uses a Radeon HD 6870.

[Bug 811108] [NEW] mount problem with floppy drive

2011-07-15 Thread Werner Holtfreter
Public bug reported:

This is a re-report from https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554700 which
has marked as "Won't Fix" because the version is too old now.

It is impossible to mount with:

 sudo mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/

But this works:

 sudo mount /dev/fd0u1440 /mnt/

Consequently, it is impossible to mount the floppy with Nautilus.

[Bug 789542] [NEW] Tabular of *.docx destroyed if saved

2011-05-28 Thread Werner Simbuerger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libreoffice

please open the attached file and follow this procedure to see the bug:

1. open 'Bewertungsbogen Arbeitnehmer.docx'
2. save as 'Bewertungsbogen Arbeitnehmer.odt' (.. or as any other format)
3. close all open files
4. open 'Bewertungsbogen Arbeitnehmer.odt'

Result: the original table formatting of the file is destroyed

Probably a bug in the docx interpreter.
