[Bug 936667] Re: Upstart early job logging causes boot failure for systems with no initramfs (error is "No available ptys")
The --no-log will be a kernel command line option. If you're on x86 or amd64, you would stop the Grub boot, and manually edit the kernel cmdline to add the --no-log. Then, once you're up and running, you would edit /etc/default/grub changing GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX, to affect both normal and recovery modes. Once you've done that, you run 'update-grub' and you should be good to go. [Bug 918791] Re: qemu-kvm dies when using vmvga driver and unity in the guest
I tried to build a 64-bit Precise desktop virt using libvirt manager, itself running on a 64-bit AMD 4-core box with Precise. When specifying the vmvga/vmware option, qemu keeled over and died as soon as (in VNC) it looked like the card was going into graphics mode. I then built the image specifying 'cirrus' and launched it, played with it a bit w/unity 2d. Slow, but functional in my setup. I then relaunched the image specifying the 'vmware' vga option, and as soon as it looked as though the card were going into a high-res graphics mode, qemu SIGABRT-ed and died. I then built a non-optimized unstripped qemu-kvm and tried launching directly wihile running under 'gdb'. I'm not all that familiar with dealing w/multi-threaded userspace code, but using the 'vmware' vga device, it doesn't take much to get a SEGFAULT (very repeatable with my setup): Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x747733a1 in _int_malloc () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (gdb) bt #0 0x747733a1 in _int_malloc () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 #1 0x74775d05 in malloc () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 #2 0x556b85ae in malloc_and_trace (n_bytes=512) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-1.0+noroms/vl.c:2140 #3 0x7792c9b9 in g_malloc () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0 #4 0x557c6982 in kvm_physical_sync_dirty_bitmap (start_addr=4244635648, end_addr=4261412864) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-1.0+noroms/kvm-all.c:413 #5 0x557c72f5 in kvm_client_sync_dirty_bitmap (client=0x55c1c540, start_addr=4244635648, end_addr=4261412864) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-1.0+noroms/kvm-all.c:679 #6 0x5579c04d in cpu_notify_sync_dirty_bitmap (start=4244635648, end=4261412864) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-1.0+noroms/exec.c:1753 #7 0x5579d1bd in cpu_physical_sync_dirty_bitmap (start_addr=4244635648, end_addr=4261412864) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-1.0+noroms/exec.c:2141 #8 0x557d988e in memory_region_sync_dirty_bitmap (mr=0x56c82bb0) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-1.0+noroms/memory.c:1077 #9 0x5585b071 in vga_sync_dirty_bitmap (s=0x56c82ba0) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-1.0+noroms/hw/vga.c:1570 #10 0x5585b172 in vga_draw_graphic (s=0x56c82ba0, full_update=0) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-1.0+noroms/hw/vga.c:1599 #11 0x5585be27 in vga_update_display (opaque=0x56c82ba0) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-1.0+noroms/hw/vga.c:1861 #12 0x556be4e4 in vmsvga_update_display (opaque=0x56c82ba0) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-1.0+noroms/hw/vmware_vga.c:954 #13 0x5562435c in vga_hw_update () at console.c:167 #14 0x5573e962 in vnc_refresh (opaque=0x7fffec337010) at ui/vnc.c:2475 #15 0x556f2161 in qemu_run_timers (clock=0x5643a1b0) at qemu-timer.c:420 #16 0x556f23e9 in qemu_run_all_timers () at qemu-timer.c:483 #17 0x556c1e64 in main_loop_wait (nonblocking=0) at main-loop.c:468 #18 0x556b6a76 in main_loop () at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-1.0+noroms/vl.c:1482 #19 0x556bbc9a in main (argc=43, argv=0x7fffe298, envp=0x7fffe3f8) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-1.0+noroms/vl.c:3523 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/918791 Title: qemu-kvm dies when using vmvga driver and unity in the guest To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/918791/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 926676] [NEW] False result after special character input
Public bug reported: gcalctool 6.2.0-0ubuntu2 is a great tool to copy, past and calculate formula from a document. Normally, false syntax causes a error message, for example "1+1W+1" --> ERROR. That is OK. But the result of "1+1Ω+1" is NOT "error" but "2"! The charakter above is "Omega", but it is the same with other special characters, for example "no-break space". All characters after the special charakter are ignored. By the way: A nice feature after fix this bug: Immediately marking red and ignoring all caracters which not needed for calculation. [Bug 897750] Re: libvirt/kvm problem with disk attach/detach/reattach on running virt
Some incremental findings: In 'qemu-kvm' the DeviceState for the peer device of the BlockDeviceState that gets created when a disk attached by 'virsh attach-disk' references the 'QemuOpts' options structure that lists the options and the device ID string (ex: as 'virtio-disk4') that will (on a re-attach for the same disk when the hotplug module is not loaded in the virt) be found by 'qemu_find_opts()' under the call to 'drive_add'. When the PCI hotplug module *is* loaded in the virt, the DriveState structure and the associatsd QemuOpts get released from within a separate thread by a call to 'qdev_free()' asynchronously from the main thread's invocation of 'do_device_del()'. When the PCI hotplug modules is *not* loaded in the virt, there is never an invocation of 'qdev_free' for the device , so the options structure hangs around to be located in the attempt to re-attach a disk for the same disk, and we get the Duplicate ID error. In the even of the hotplug module being loaded in the virt, the trace of the thread which invokes 'qdev_free' looks something like: == #1 0x7fbb4b3403d9 in qdev_free (dev=0x7fbb4cc8d820) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-0.14.1+noroms/hw/qdev.c:382 #2 0x7fbb4b4aabd7 in pciej_write (opaque=0x7fbb4c95dc90, addr=44552, val=33554432) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-0.14.1+noroms/hw/acpi_piix4.c:615 #3 0x7fbb4b309839 in ioport_write (index=2, address=44552, data=33554432) at ioport.c:81 #4 0x7fbb4b30a2c7 in cpu_outl (addr=44552, val=33554432) at ioport.c:278 #5 0x7fbb4b2a7b82 in kvm_handle_io (port=44552, data=0x7fbb4b1fa000, direction=1, size=4, count=1) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-0.14.1+noroms/kvm-all.c:824 #6 0x7fbb4b2aa353 in kvm_run (env=0x7fbb4c734860) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-0.14.1+noroms/qemu-kvm.c:617 #7 0x7fbb4b2abab8 in kvm_cpu_exec (env=0x7fbb4c734860) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-0.14.1+noroms/qemu-kvm.c:1233 #8 0x7fbb4b2ac2dd in kvm_main_loop_cpu (env=0x7fbb4c734860) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-0.14.1+noroms/qemu-kvm.c:1419 #9 0x7fbb4b2ac476 in ap_main_loop (_env=0x7fbb4c734860) at /home/justinlw/src/qemu/qemu-kvm-0.14.1+noroms/qemu-kvm.c:1466 #10 0x7fbb4a9bbefc in start_thread (arg=0x7fbb4397f700) at pthread_create.c:304 #11 0x7fbb481c589d in clone () at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/x86_64/clone.S:112 #12 0x in ?? () == In a nutshell, the code is designed such that there is a resource leak if the virt does not play ball with PCI hotplugging in a case like this. I have yet to do complete line of code: I will have to have a much better understanding of the Qemu PCI handling mechanisms first, I think. Still I believe there are potentially useful findings in further nailing this bug (design feature?). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/897750 Title: libvirt/kvm problem with disk attach/detach/reattach on running virt To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/897750/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 897750] Re: libvirt/kvm problem with disk attach/detach/reattach on running virt
I've been looking at libvirt and qemu for other work, I'm doing, and I've criceld back to take another look at this. Since I first looked at this, my testbed has updated to use the "oneiric-proposed" qemu-kvm package '0.14.1+noroms-0ubuntu6.1' while retaining the libvirt-bin package 0.9.2-4ubuntu15.1 I tried to duplicate the problem again, but this time my Linux virt had 'acpiphp.ko' (the PCI hotplug module) loaded, and I was *unable* to reproduce the 'Duplicate ID' error. Instead, continued attach/detach cycles resulted in success every time after .gt. 30 iterations. == **As a side-note and possibly to be addressed as a separate bug, the drive does not actually get attached as the specified device each time inside the virt. So even though the 'attach-disk --target' specifies, say, vdb, the virt kernel increments the devname inside itself, so that we get vdc, vdd, vde The attaches subsequent to the detatch of vdz results in vdaa,, vdab, vdac and so on. == Now here's the kicker. If you do an 'rmmod' on the PCI hotplug module within the virt and try the attach/detach/attach, the 'Duplicate ID' problem re-occurs. This implies to me that there is some sort of effective interaction between qemu-kvm and the virt that affects this. That is, when the virt actually gets and handles a device eject, then qemu-kvm behaves differently than when the virt does not get/handle it. -- Dec 14 09:54:16 base1 kernel: [ 2226.835417] acpiphp_glue: handle_hotplug_event_func: Device eject notify on \_SB_.PCI0.S27_ Dec 14 09:54:16 base1 kernel: [ 2226.877208] virtio-pci :00:1b.0: PCI INT A disabled -- So, this gives us a better characterization of the bug, and I will look into it some more with this in mind.

[Bug 897750] [NEW] libvirt/kvm problem with disk attach/detach/reattach on running virt
Public bug reported: Release: Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric) libvirt-bin: 0.9.2-4ubuntu15.1 qemu-kvm: 0.14.1+noroms-0ubuntu6 Summary:With a running KVM virt, performing an 'attach-disk', then a 'detach-disk', then another 'attach-disk' in an attempt to reattach the volume at the same point on the virt, fails, with the qemu reporting back to libvirt a 'Duplicate ID' error. Expected behavior: The 2nd invocation of 'attach-disk' should have succeeded Actual behavior: Duplicate ID error reported I believe this is most likely a qemu-kvm issue, as the DOM kvm spits back at libvirt after the 'detach-disk' does not show the just-detached disk.
